I asked if I could bring out all the boxes for him to take. He was amazing. I didn't feel I was burdening him, rather he genuinely wanted to help. Athens Services as a company is one of the absolute worst companies that I've ever had to deal with. First of all, they're simply bad at what they do. For a company that is supposed to provide a "cleaning" service, they leave more trash than they pick up; they throw items around almost hitting my car, and push the bins around with blatant disregard of people's property. I've been fortunate enough to witness how unpleasant their employees are and what little care their employees show in making sure that they are clean and professional. Second point, their employees have zero self respect which is evident in their work. From their demeanor, their attitude, and watching them perform its clear to see that they have zero pride in what they do. Makes a mockery of the hard working individuals who actually do care about quality regardless of their profession. What a joke. This is a systemic problem within their company. If their management were wise they'd hire competent, hard working individuals that represent themselves and their company properly. Unfortunately, it's hard to imagine that upper management would be any different. These losers provide zero value. The City of Whittier changed to Athens from Republic in November of last year. A woman from Athens came to the City Council meeting and gave the presentation about how professional Athens was and that the transition would be seamless. She lied. Athens sent a bill for 3 months even though Republic was still servicing the City of Whittier for one of those months so they were double billing customers. The bill had the incorrect number of trash barrels even though Republic had the correct information and the clerks at Athens were supposed to input that information into their system. They sent out endless text messages with incorrect information. They delivered the wrong number of trash barrels. I had 10 trash cans at my house and could not get anyone to figure out how to get the correct number...1 black, 1 blue and 2 green It has been endless phone calls with workers who have no idea how to solve billing problems or pick up barrels. Terrible Customer Service. They are all rude and are working from their bedroom or in the checkout line at Costco. I actually heard, "Costco card please" on one call. It is April and I still do not have even ONE correct bill. If your city is considering Athens..do not let them do it. It will be a nightmare of rude employees that get paid to do nothing. You will never get a correct bill. Their answer is always, "Just pay it and we will sort it out later." Seriously. How does a company like this even stay in business? read more

I am so freaken pissed that Whittier decided to go with Athens. Their service is abhorrent! We have never received a bill and the only communications we get is them saying we are delinquent. We've tried correcting this for months! MONTHS! And they still can't send a bill- they just tell us to put it on autopay. Bish, I still need to know how much I am paying before giving you access to my bank account. Every other bill I have on autopay sends me a bill and tells me when it's been drafted. When they pick up your trash, they dump half of it on your property and just drive off. It's really too bad that there is no other trash removal service to use and they must know this because they've shown time and time again that really do not care at all. They keep charging me for services that they are not even providing. They don't even pick up my garbage yet they keep charging me for it. Up until this year I only had one issue with an Athens employee lying about picking up trash one day but we had video proof they didn't so Athens resolved it. Now since June 20 with the new bins, they took away all our recycling bins and we haven't had that service since then and I'm still being charged for it. I've called and emailed multiple times, filed a BBB complaint that Athens refused to respond to, and keep being told someone will call me back about receiving a credit but no one calls. ZERO stars for removing my dumpster and all recycle and yard waste bin in the middle of the state of emergency and the worst wild fires in California history. We have issues getting Athens to service our alley, despite charging insane amounts to do this. So I have an illegal dumping issue here nearly constantly. Last night someone illegally dumped where the dumpster used to be and they lit the debris on fire and it burned my building! They are in violation of regulations disallowing price gouging and other shut off regulations during a state of emergency. The city of LA needs to dump this contract with this unethical and unscrupulous company immediately. If they cannot provide the service, they should not be charging me for it. I have been trying to get them to resolve this for over 2 years and they refuse to do the right thing. I will not double pay for services I have never received and their bills include years of service I never actually received and am due a significant refund. I was assigned a man name Francisco who is the liaison between Athens and the City of LA but he was worthless since he just vanished and never did anything meaningful. read more

I wish I could rate zero. Athens has horrible service. I wish we could have UWS back. Been at my residence for 14 years , never once has a problem with our trash until Athens took over. Had them for almost a year and have had to call them at least 8 times because at 1st they didn't give me a second trash bin that I have had sense UWS. But they charge me. Then they gave me a credit because they charged me for a service I never had. Meanwhile I asked for that second bin and to add to my act. Then finally about 6 weeks later, they gave me a second bin. Then out of no where they stop picking up the second bin. So I called again to find out they never charged me. They said because of the credit, I never had a bin. I said your right I didn't for 6 weeks that's why you credited me back. But when you gave me a second bin why didn't you charge me? My bill went up. Needless to say they said they will add it again. Today we got our trash bins delivered because our city signed a contract with ATHENS. Unfortunately one of the trash bins the recycle one the blue one wasn't new which I wasn't expecting a brand new one but at least expected clean. Let me tell you it was filthy. I'm talking like if there was a dead cat in there I'm not kidding you so I called customer service and spoke to Mercedes or Merced. I forgot very nice lady. I told her my concerns if it can be replaced she put me on hold for a brief moment got back with me and said they're gonna replace it within a week but just to leave it out there. She was lovely to talk to. I told her I hope she has a great day. They took over our area and took my old trash cans and brought me smaller cans but forgot my green waste cans. It took them 2.5 months to bring them after 4 calls and several excuses on why everyone in our neighborhood got brand new cans and we couldn't at a minimum keep our old ones until the new ones arrived. No compensation for the inconvenience. I couldn't cut my grass for 2.5 months. That was kind of sweet but I don't like paying for a service that I can't use. read more

When our city changed to Athens I didn't think much of it but there have been times they forget to pass by, which we never had this problem with the other trash company. Last Monday they switched out cans and in the process they once again forgot to pick up my trash bin. I have called them daily to remind them to come get it and they promise to send a truck and they even open a ticket for service request . It has been sitting out on my street the entire week. Athens Services is reliable most of the time except when there is a new driver they don't look at notes on the account to make sure they know which gate the bins are supposed to be taken out from. The driver stops at the location assumes the gate is locked and leaves. I get an automated message and I have to take time out of my day to call them and explain the situation. This has happened once a month every month for over a year. I have asked to speak to a supervisor and they have not called me. The worst company to deal with. They advertise container rentals for roofs and they really are not in that market. They took a $687 deposit and were unable to provide the service. They told me they processed a credit back to my credit card (wait 7-10 days for it) I did and no refund. I called another four times they hang up on you they lie and tell you it's coming in 3 days and it never posts. I have filed a claim with my bank now and I intend to pay them for there trash services the same way they reimbursed me for a container that never came. What a bunch of Losers!! read more

As I was driving home earlier half of the dumpsters on my street have been left out overnight and are still there as of Sunday morning from Friday's trash day sandwiched between two cars. I live in the City Of Whittier you have two trash trucks on Scott Avenue that park like crap blocking the lanes going north and south out of their trucks talking ridiculous 3 o'clock schools out no reason why they're out talking. Constant missed pickups, blocking driveways with the bins (our own and the neighbor's) and leaving bins out on the street for entire weekends (while blocking the driveways) is unacceptable. Repeated calls for resolution are left unresolved. Customer service reps are kind and patient, the drivers work hard but the pull out service is a mess. This is a complaint about the company in general, not a particular location. I live in an HOA in the west LA area, and they are supposed to service our big trash dumpster every Tuesday. Well, they did so this week, but what happened next is the problem. They serviced the dumpster but left it out on the street for 2 days after that. I also noticed that my neighbor's dumpsters were left on the street as well. Meanwhile, in spite of my asking my neighbors not to do so, some kept putting trash down the chute, while the dumpster was out on the street. I called the company on Wednesday to report that the dumpster was still out on the street. They did send someone to put it back, after about an hour. The guy who came was new, and didn't know which dumpster goes to which garage, even though they are clearly marked. He spent about half an hour going back and forth on the street, and calling to find out where the dumpsters go. I find this to be unacceptable. The company also services our recycling dumpster on a regular basis, but returns it to the garage promptly. Why can't that be done with the trash dumpster? Another pet peeve is the placement of neighbor's dumpsters. Some of my neighbors have their dumpsters serviced on Fridays. However, on Fridays there is also street cleaning, or lack there of recently, but the dumpsters are placed in the way, so that the street cleaning machine has to go around them. They could easily put them on the other side of the street to be out of the way. Lastly, I want to mention their customer service. Whoever answers the phone needs to be in a quiet place and be able to talk clearly, without so much background noise, so I don't have to shout to be heard. read more

West Hollywood Customer Service - Phone scheduling and follow-up on missed pickup are pleasant & professional. Excellent! Bulk item pickup not so much.... I scheduled a bulk item pickup for Friday and placed the items on the curb on Thursday afternoon. However, your company did not pick them up until Monday, leaving the items on the curb for a total of four days. This is not ideal, as it is unpleasant and sometimes a safety hazard to have trash sitting outside for that long. Unfortunately, this happens 90% of the time when I arrange for a bulk item pickup. read more

Wish the city of southeast Whittier never contracted with them. They gave reused run down cans with peoples addresses still on them. The lady who picks up trash doesn't empty the containers all the way and also spills trash all over the street. They also left behind 1 of my old ware carts because it had a box inside and still haven't came to pick it up when I called them.
