Do not ever go to UFC Honolulu. Drive the extra 20-30 minutes and go to Kailua or Mililani. Waipahu even. UFC Honolulu is the worst (and most expensive) mistake I've ever made.

The gym is very clean, spacious and organized. All of the equipment is in excellent condition and clearly well-maintained. They use Eleiko bars and combo racks, which are competition grade and the gold standard for serious lifters. You can tell this space was built with intention. Parking was simple with designated spots for the gym and the location was easy to find even early in the morning. Overall, Ukiyo Hawai'i offers a premium training experience with everything you need for a great workout even if you are not a powerlifter. I would easily visit again next time.

You can pay ahead of time online and they give you a way to unlock the gym with your phone. They have parking available nearby and some spots are make specifically for Ukiyo. There are tripods around for anyone to use and a good variety of weights. But as such it is very clean and well kept and has an excellent range of fitness equipment that will assist one in getting and staying in shape. Whether it be for physiological training required after injury, cardio workouts, to heavy development work outs. It has sufficient equipment stations. From treadmills, cross country skiing, stationary bikes, rowing machine, and of course weights for upper and lower torso workouts. I definitely need to use this amenity more. Usually I see it occupied by someone looking at their phone. My main gripe and what made me come and leave a mediocre review is the showers. 2 of 4 have been down for at least a month and one of the "working" showers is missing a shower head. It seems like things don't get fixed very fast. One month is too long. An ab crunch machine was recently fixed after about a month of being inactive. A cable machine had splayed cables and they put electrical tape on it. It lasted a few days and now that's been down for a week so far. Many times I see paper towel dispensers and spray bottle holders broken or completely empty. Trash cans full. Walls dirty with hand prints. Dirty fans. Rusty walls. Moldy showers with shower rings missing and crusty shower curtains (even though they just replaced the two shower curtains). It all adds up to make me feel like they don't care about the appearance of the place anymore. The staff is fairly nice, but the one woman I saw cleaning machines frequently no longer works there. I think more attention to cleanliness and broken machines and towel dispensers would really make the place level up. Getting rid of unused machines like the big fan bike and angled ab benches, then replacing those with another leg curl machine and maybe a fly machine would be a nice addition too.

Walked in to Ikaika Fitness, the third gym on my list and met Alan, the owner ... and well know Hawaii Professional Body Builder. Looked around a found pretty much everything in the way of equipment I could imagine, and equipment that defied my limited skill set to understand. Signed on for a day pass to get the feel ... and quickly felt the Aloha; from the owner; from the Trainers; and from the other members. Found my "fave"treadmill, whom I now (6 months later) visit daily ... and got all the other machines figured out (through watching others, or asking questions.). Every one is friendly if approached ... but give you space, and don't criticize unless asked. Trainers are low key, and not pushy ... struck up conversations, and gently found the right fit. Ikaika Fitness is my new home; where my day begins ... I've lost weight, improved my shape, health and attitude. I've heard a good gym is the closest thing to the "fountain of youth" and I'm sure this is one such fountain. This 73' year old is getting younger every day.

I was somewhat hesitant, but since she was a woman much younger than myself I believed we could relate better than a male trainer. I know that Marisa is becoming an expert at helping the aging set seniors -that would be me recently losing my husband I decided I had to start working on my mental health as well as my physical in my younger days. I was an athlete but as four children and three husbands I tended to put on a lot of weight when I first met Marisa she explained her history of working with the elderly and I was put at ease knowing that somebody knew more about my body than a regular trainer. I would like to say I have completed the program. It was tough, but I lost 10 pounds and my body is totally different and back to the athlete I used to be don't get me wrong, it didn't help my wrinkles or all my loose skin. That takes time the way Marisa explained things to me about exercising and visiting the gym. I had never heard before. I have been to Jim's and got no results but in three months the results that have shown on my body is amazing and I feel so much better. I'm happier. I walked 3 to 5 miles a day now and I'm getting more tone each day Marisa's knowledge of training is unprecedented, especially for the older people. She took the time to really help me understand the meaning of exercise before I joined the gym. I met a gentleman and I complimented him on his physique. He was an older man like me and he commented the Jim is waiting, but I was scared. Marisa took these fears and threw them right out the window. She was honest, sincere, and extremely professional so I'm gonna tell all you Seniors out there, if you keep sitting on your butt not only is it gonna get bigger but it's putting 1 foot in the grave. I am 75 years old and I now feel 17. I have the energy and motivation I need. Thank you, Marisa, for letting me know old age is just a number. Marisa made my muscle memory came back. Although the staff are trying their best to keep the gym clean but all machines are place in the basement, so the environment is boring. Lots of pipes are running above your head.
