Return visit for brunch on a recent trip back to Atlanta and we were thrilled to enjoy this spot again. We began with the deviled egg starter and it was perfect for two to share. I ordered the unique chicken pancake sandwich with home fries and my son raved about his stick-to-the-ribs Georgia trout entree. Waitress was friendly and helpful with sharing menu suggestions. Food prep was fast, but we did not feel rushed We were seated in one of the cozy dining areas with large booth seating and it was comfortable and only mild noise. While on a work trip we were looking for a place to grab food before catching a show at Blind Willie's and we ran across Atkins Park, amongst the many seemingly great options in the area. Even at 7:30PM on a Friday during the World Cup there was a pretty good sized crowd but still no wait, we instantly were sat at our table. I ordered the chicken penne pasta with the vodka sauce and it was amazing. The other person in my party ordered the grilled salmon and they also really enjoyed their meal. So I was just walking around and ended up stumbling across this bar. It happened to be open, so that's what got my attention. It's open fairly late. All things considered, is later than other things in the area. There's street parking so be aware of the parking situation. I was there on a Saturday night which ran to Sunday morning so parking was free on Sunday so that definitely help. The vibe is really young, when I was there it was more of a college kid kind of situation. So don't expect it to be trendy and Fancy by any means. You'll get people mobbing up by the bar trying to get drinks and it may even be shoulder to shoulder. So if that's not what you want, I'd understand if you went to try someplace else. Just keeping it honest! Personally that's not really where I was at and what I was looking for, so we didn't even bother standing in that area. I'm not a fan of super large crowds of people being shoulder to shoulder, but at least they had other options as far as seating goes so I give them the benefit of the doubt. The space is massive. And I think there's an upstairs as well actually. So if you have a large group, they would have no problem accommodating. But I will say the part when you walk into the door and have the bar. There is the busiest place. So if you are not a fan of large crowds, this may not be for you. But if you go over to the dining area, you should be fine. There's plenty of seats and tables for you to sit down at without having to be worried about being inundated with tons of people. If I was walking around and needed a late night place, I will definitely consider that. As well as a place to put on the list of things to do. I probably wouldn't gravitate toward it to where it'll be my focal point, but like I said earlier I just happened to stumble across the bar because it was open later. read more

Good bar-grade food, extremely slow food service, and plenty of seating. My party of 3 got wings to share (half garlic and half buffalo) with blue cheese dip -- quite tasty. I ordered the southern fried chicken entree, which is served with a side of green beans smothered in garlic and oil; perfectly crispy fried chicken with a tasty gravy; and a delicious side of mac and cheese. The chicken dumpling was thick, perhaps a little overly batter-y, but tasty with a large, tasty broth. Apparently there's also a large patio space a large group I know was able to congregate in. I came here a second time at night to get the mac and cheese again and man -- did not disappoint. Also ordered the pesto salmon, which was very flavorful and I'd recommend here; as well as the smashburger with fries, which just amounted to subpar bar food. This rating is for the disappointing service/experience because we never got to dine here. We drove crosstown to come here for lunch after not eating all day, and were not greeted upon entry nor 15 mins after seating ourselves. I walked around to seek out a waitress and she was nice and brought us waters and menus, but she never came back to take our order. We waited an additional 15 mins before we had to make a dignity decision and leave. All in all we spent 35 mins being ignored. Unfortunate. This was our first visit so it didn't leave the best impression. For what it's worth, they seem very friendly to regulars. read more

I ended up trying this place because it's located next to my where I get my waxing service. I ordered the deviled eggs for a starters and for my entree I ordered the salmon blt with sweet potato fries. The food was GREAT however, it took a few servers walking paste me in order for someone to approach me. I wasnt greeted upon entry and I had to say "excuse me" twice to in order to get the attention of a server that b-lined passed me. I did not get the name of my server that eventually greeted me once I sat down but he was great! My food came out in a timely manner and every-time he came to check in on me he had a bright smile on his face. It's a great place to visit while in the area but the parking is not so great. Hopefully you can luck up and catch good street parking when you decide to visit. read more

Atkins park is a neighborhood classic! They serve up delicious, pub food. The service and drinks are always on par. Everything is priced well. The smoked turkey was PHENOMENAL - some of the best I have had. I also love their thick-cut sweet potato fries. We love to sit at the bar and watch football on the TVs. I am here in Atlanta this week for work. When coming to a new city I like to try out and visit all the historic places. This was my first stop! I entered the restaurant half of the building and had a French 75 and the trout. Super impressed. It was delicious. Especially for the price! The waiter was kind and answered my questions even about the area and not the establishment. My only critique is that I think they should embrace the history more. We came here on a recommendation from our Airbnb and were thoroughly disappointed. Service was excellent by any means. I ordered the shrimp and grits which the server said was one of their most popular dishes although she could not attest to it since she's not a grits fan. That being said, this was also my first time trying and I was mildly pleased. I preferred eating the grits with vegetables but by themselves, they tasted like textured mashed potatoes with paper. You could definitely taste the sherry. The shrimp seemed slightly over cooked giving it an extra rubberiness to chew through My cousin ordered the short ribs with Parmesan cauliflower grits. This dish was extremely salty. I did happen to prefer the cauliflower grits. We passed on dessert given how under-par our dishes were. read more

Decent bar to grab food and drink! Came to this location because they had outside seating and it was nice outside. Our waiter was new but very kind and attentive. The best dish out of what we ordered was the smash burger! Sooo tasty and flavorful. We also had the Duck Confit Wings (not pictured), Salmon BLT and Fried Brussel Sprouts. Very nice bar food. This restaurant is located in the heart of Virginia Highlands. I had heard about this place due to the awesome chicken tenders and knew I had to visit ! I went with one other person and we shared a variety of dishes. The service was okay but nothing spectacular . Below is what we ordered for appetizer and entree 1. Fried okra 9/10 2. Chicken wings 7/10 ( the wings are huge and not crispy but great to reheat !) 3. Bacon wrapped dates 5/10 4. Meatloaf Sandwich 5. Burger with sweet potato fries The ambiance of the restarting is very laid back , and the tables are extra close. The bathroom was very dirty which was a disappointment. From the attractive brick and wood decor of a historic building to the gracious service to the skilled chef, AP delivered one of the best meals I've had in Atlanta in some time. The surprise was that I ordered on the cheaper side. Overall, prices are reasonable here for the quality. But when one dines on Brussels sprouts and sliders, they don't expect such skill. Brussels that are "done" yet tender, sitting on a bed of horseradish cream? Yes, thank you. Short rib sliders with an onion jam? May I have another?! Paired with Sweetwater's Georgia Brown. This is our go to in Atlanta. Our daughter lives a few blocks away so it's an easy place we can walk to as parking in this area of Atlanta is mostly street parking. Food, Drinks,Service is always great. There is bar seating & Diningroom seating for a quieter experience or they have a covered outdoor seating area out back where you used to park your car. Never have had a bad meal here and we have had many meals here. Their fried chicken is amazing, they should have their own Big Chicken ! The steak sandwich is a huge juicy melt in your mouth beefy delight. We generally split a dessert as they are just too yummy to pass up. Just a little local place, but high on our list. I actually just left there about an hour ago. I live nearby and my daughter and I decided to check it out as we were driving by. It helped that there was a parking space right out front. She had the spicy chicken sandwich with a Caesar salad and I had the hot pretzels with a smash burger. We both got sweet potato fries and the food was excellent. I will be back and the only reason that I am giving four stars instead of four is because of the bartender. She looked us dead in our faces for several minutes and never told us that the dining room was to the right. In fact, she did not say a single word to us but was chatting it up with the customers at the bar. I got a racist vibe from her but everyone else was welcoming and extremely nice. Atkins Park came to the rescue when our biggish group's original brunch plans were put into jeopardy. They take reservations too, bonus! I ended up getting the bacon, egg, & cheese sandwich ($9). The one here was a sliced croissant filled with house bacon, sunnyside egg, Gruyere, avocado, and bacon aioli. I requested the pimento cheese grits as a side; they were a 50¢ upcharge. The side options were stone ground grits, skillet potatoes and fresh fruit. The grits were sorta lackluster. They were clumpy and needed a shake of salt. The sandwich was overpowered by the aioli which seemed more like plain mayo to me, not sure about this bacon business. I did like the crunchy bacon strips. Due to the mayonnaise majority, the avocado and Gruyere and even egg were unfortunately downplayed. The croissant tasted fine but due to its delicateness, ended up flattened. I will say that the portion size was generous; I felt full for a long time after. The majority of our table ordered the fried chicken pancake sandwich ($12), and one person got the smoked beef brisket & eggs ($14). All dishes were praised. Our waitress was great and handled our separate checks without any issues. Atkins Park (the restaurant side at least) seemed pretty kid-friendly too, offering booster seats and kids menus tucked into books for the under 5 crowd at our table. Bathrooms are in the bar section of the restaurant, and parking is on the street. We all liked the feel of the place, with lots of wood and a cozy vibe. So cool that Atkins Park started off as a delicatessen in 1922! It's also apparently Atlanta's oldest continuously-licensed tavern. read more

A friend of mine asked me to meet him here for lunch today. I reminded him I'm a vegetarian and he stated they have some options for you. This isn't a place I would go if my friend didn't invite me but he enjoys this place so I decided to be open and give it a try. As I thought not many options on the menu for me to eat so I opted for the black eyed pea burger and salad. The burger was dry and had a weird texture and taste. I took 2 bites and left the rest on the plate. Thank goodness for my side salad it saved the day. I hate going places where salads are my best option for food. It's almost 2020 and more restaurants need to have a better vegetarian/vegan options to include people with different dietary preferences. I have three words. HOT PIMENTO CHEESE DIP!!! Ok actually four words, well now the cat's out the bag that I'm bad at math. But that's not important. What's important is that you ask the server for extra bread the second this appetizer gets placed on the table cause you WILL need and want it. Ooey gooey rich cheesy goodness you won't regret. I did some vigorous hot yoga before this so I felt like I deserved this skillet of guilty pleasure. The entrees didn't fall short either on the satisfaction scale. The honey garlic grilled salmon was cooked medium exactly as I like it, with a sweet subtle glaze over. The whipped cauliflower is wonderful and garlicky; a perfect healthy substitution for mash. I actually forgot I wasn't eating potatoes! The kale and bacon also impressed me, so simple but so much flavor. The herb roasted chicken was marinated with sweet tea, impressive! Never had chicken tasted like that before and I loved it. I also appreciate how the fried okra was lightly battered as some places over batter their vegetables. I dipped these into the leftover cheese dip, couldn't let that go to waste! The service is quick, attentive, and friendly.
