I have a 1969 dodge charger RT 440 and ASS rebuilt it with a Stoker to 505 Also put in a tremec 5 speed along with many other things too many to list. I rarely leave reviews. As a business owner myself, I understand the impact they carry. Four years ago I gave Atlanta Speed Shop five stars and meant every word. Julius and Justin had stepped in to rescue a build on my 1967 F100 that a previous shop had majorly dropped the ball on -- a project that had already cost me over six figures. They were thorough, honest, and went above and beyond. Over the years I referred significant business to them because of that experience. When I acquired my 1968 F100 and was ready for a new build there was no question where it was going. I trusted them with it because they had earned that trust. This update is not written out of frustration. It is written because other customers deserve an accurate account of what happened, and because I exhausted every private option before going public. I brought my 1968 F100 to Atlanta Speed Shop in early 2026 for a significant engine and drivetrain build. I sourced the crate engine and select components directly. The shop handled the transmission rebuild through their own vendor, all remaining parts, and all labor -- totaling just over $10,000 on their invoice. My total investment in this project was well in excess of $20,000. Within the first day of having the truck back I noticed a loud screeching noise on right turns, a throttle that stuck twice, driveshaft scraping, a whining rear end, and oil spots. I reported everything to Justin in writing immediately. The truck went back for its first warranty visit. It came back still unresolved. Following that return the AC stopped working and a shop mechanic was dispatched to my home to fix it -- a basic item that should have been caught before the truck ever left. Julius had signed off on it. The truck continued to have issues. A significant driveline vibration then appeared under hard acceleration that had never existed before this project. The shop requested a ride along with Julius -- the same owner who had signed off on the vehicle multiple times already. The truck went back for a second warranty visit where Julius confirmed the muffler was contacting the driveshaft -- a direct result of their exhaust work. This was consistent with what Justin had already acknowledged in his own words in a text message. The vibration was resolved but the exhaust remains unfinished. A cracked frame rail near a critical suspension component was also disclosed to me for the first time at this visit -- despite the truck having been in their shop multiple times with Julius signing off each time. Today's warranty tow cost me $503 out of pocket -- an expense that should never have been mine on a warranty visit. When the final invoice arrived a 3% credit card fee appeared that had never been disclosed or applied to either of my two prior payments on this same project. Justin acknowledged it and waived it in writing -- because he knew it had not been disclosed. The invoice was never signed by me and the terms were never agreed to. If a response to this review claims these issues were pre-existing I would ask the reader to consider -- if that were true, why were they never disclosed across multiple visits and multiple sign-offs by Julius? Justin acknowledged the exhaust running the driveshaft in his own words after the truck had already been delivered as complete. These are not my characterizations. They are documented in the shop's own communications. The technical capability here is real and my 2022 experience was genuinely excellent. But capability means nothing if the work is not checked before it leaves the shop, warranty issues are disputed rather than resolved, and a loyal customer who invested well in excess of $20,000 and referred significant business to you is treated the way I was treated when things went wrong. I called Atlanta Speed Shop to see if they could do the machine work on my '73 MGB engine and I spoke to Julius, the owner, who seemed polite and knowledgeable, and said he had experience with MGBs. I asked if they could also assemble the pistons and bearings into the block, and Julius said they certainly could, and estimated the assembly labor to be around $400. Perfect. I dropped off the engine and cylinder head along with all the parts that I had purchased myself. Their workspace was bright, clean, and looked organized. Julius gave me a rough estimate of the cost, saying the total would be around $2,000 (including the fee to service the head and assemble the short-block). He estimated the job would take at least a few weeks. We both understood that the price and timing could change based on what they might find as they went. I authorized whatever additional work was needed. After 9 weeks the block and head were ready and the bill was $3,400. It took a little longer than I wanted and cost a bit more than I was hoping, but as long as the job was done right I was happy - until I got home and got the block un-bagged and was shocked to find a huge gouge in the surface of the deck. I called Julius to ask what happened and he said the tech that did the resurfacing dropped the block and caused a gouge that was too deep to be milled off, and that he had "forgotten to tell me about it". Julius admitted that if the gouge were any nearer to the cylinder it would have rendered the block unusable, but he was "pretty sure it wouldn't be a problem". I pointed out that he had not forgotten to add the $150 resurfacing charge to the bill though, and Julius stated that even though the resurfacing had damaged the block, "they did resurface the block" but he eventually agreed to refund me the $150 for the botched resurfacing and then he begrudgingly offered me an additional $50 off "for my trouble" and he'd mail me a check for the $200. After a few weeks with no check from them, I wrote it off to a lesson learned. By that time I had re-assembled the rest of the engine and got it into the vehicle and it was running perfectly. After a few trips around the neighborhood to ensure there were no leaks or issues, I took it out to put a few miles on it and begin the break-in procedure. The engine was running perfectly, idling smoothly, no leaks, oil pressure and temperature readings were good - for almost 8 miles. Then the engine blew out a core plug, resulting in an instant and total loss of all coolant. By the time I got out of the travel lanes and safely to the side of the road, the damage had been done. The core plug(s) had been installed improperly and one had failed, and the instant coolant loss and subsequent temperature spike had blown the head gasket and damaged the head. When I called Julius to demand an answer, and to remind him that I had not even received the $200 refund, Julius said that he had "forgotten" about sending the check and said, "The core plugs in an MBG are tricky, which is why we didn't charge you to install them" (???). His idea of a warranty (and customer service) was another promise to send me the $200 refund, and that he'd "throw in a set of core plugs" that he had laying around (retail value $2.99). So after 9 weeks and $3,400 (and another $2,000 in parts) I'm back where I started. I have a damaged block, a blown head gasket, a damaged head, and I need to pull the engine back out to re-do the improperly installed core plugs. When I finally received the refund check (and the core plugs) Julius basically admitted that they blew it because he included a handwritten note that read "by cashing this $200 check I was agreeing to not communicate with anyone about this". I mailed the check back to him. I can't say that Atlanta Speed Shop is the worst machine shop in the world, but I can say that they're the worst machine shop I've ever dealt with. Your mileage may vary, but after a $3,400 rebuild by Atlanta Speed Shop, my mileage was about 8 miles. -and just like Mickey's review below, when I posted a review on facebook they deleted it and blocked me. read more

Took my dad's 1972 Chevelle here to get it running again. basically needed an overhaul. Built me a new engine, replaced everything under the car including the wheels and gas tank! Got a good quote and agreeable to stat working on it relatively quickly (post covid everyone was behind and products not being shipped quickly it was really hard to find a place that would commit to starting this project before 6 months). My husband mostly handled all the specifics back and forth with Justin and Julius but the bottom line was I wanted a car that's reliable to drive (as much as possible for a 72 chevelle). I don't want to be scared the car will break down on me while driving around town and they made great strides in accomplishing this. I have had it back in the shop a few times just for the "tweaks" it needs for being a brand new engine and they have really taken good care of us. I feel confident driving the car around and having fun with it. Still learning all the noises an old car should have but each time my husband or I call with questions, they are very helpful in understanding how these old cars work. I needed ECM replaced. Thankfully I picked up on " Ill see what HE wants" Whos he you ask? a coworkers used part. This lost my trust. From there I was charged to splice 2 wires, was charged for a new set of cheap plug wires I didn't want, when they broke my expensive Edelbrock ones not a month old. WHY? It was then I was told the car was going to be done on a day that ultimately didn't happen because they failed to know the ECM had to match the vin # and be programmed by a Chevy dealer. This was another day my plans and my wifes work schedule was altered based on their word. Eventually, I was called to come get my car. Upon arrival I noticed the quarter panel on my car was mal aligned. I brought this to the attention of the Manager, who brought Julius the owner out who stated well we aren't going to be able to get to this today. I stated I just drove 2 hours to get here and my wife took time off from work. He stated " I know you brought us a perfect car"(uncalled for) I said, no sir, but this wasn't like this when I brought it here and I want it fixed. He rudely answered "You have got an attitude!" I responded yes I do. The panel was eventually fixed before leaving. The story continues....On the ride home my car was bucking and heating up. Could the temp controlled fan trigger points been tuned for earlier on? I pulled over and noticed the radiator hose wasn't properly clamped on. The wait allowed the car to cool some and I was able to get home, an hour longer than it took me to get there. The next day I was able to start it, but it stalls out and the ticking is excessively loud(not your typical Ls valve train noise, following a cam swap and header install. The tune was over 450$ with credits.... and for what? I had them install a 160 degree thermostat to help the car run cooler after modifications. Did I need to say tune this for running cooler due to mods?. I called and told them I am flat-bedding the car, giving a non-favorable review, and will follow up with the damages. I placed a review on their Facebook page, only to have them delete it and block me. I would use extreme caution if considering use of this shop. read more
