I chose this facility because of its strong reviews, passing up at least 20 others that were closer to home--and I'm so glad I did. I would've driven to the ends of the earth to get the best care for my grandfather, and that's exactly what we received DSC. It was such a relief to trust them with his health, especially after a horrific experience at another facility (which I'll describe shortly as a contrast to highlight how exceptional DSC is). My grandfather was here for short-term rehab to regain his ability to walk. This is a smaller, more intimate facility where the nurses, staff, and physical therapists have the time to provide constant care and monitoring--which is the most crucial factor in a nursing home. I cannot stress enough how rare this level of attention is, especially in chain-owned facilities. Whenever I requested something for my grandfather (such as a diaper change), the staff responded promptly. Whenever I had questions, the nurses were patient, thorough, and quick to provide clear explanations. Beyond that, it was clear that the staff was proactive in their care. I visited at different times of the day and consistently found them cleaning, feeding, medicating, or checking on my grandfather without being asked. The facility itself is also exceptionally clean. The maintenance crew was always present, regularly mopping, cleaning, and removing waste multiple times a day. The social services department was incredibly helpful, meticulously guiding us through the process of his continued care and rehabilitation after his return home. They were also easily accessible whenever I needed assistance. I spent between four to eight hours at the facility every single day my grandfather was there, so I can personally attest to the staff's dedication--not just to my grandfather, but to all the patients on the floor. I noticed how engaged and active many of the patients were. Whenever medically cleared, they were encouraged to move around and spend time outside their rooms. The nurses ensured my grandfather sat in a chair for his meals rather than remaining in bed all day, which is a critical part of physical rehabilitation. This was a stark contrast to his previous facility, where patients were neglected, left in bed all day unless they required procedural care. The physical therapy team at DSC was top-notch--patient, consistent, and accommodating. They even assisted my grandfather in walking to the restroom and helped clean him when necessary. All of these qualities are crucial in a care facility--and, unfortunately, far from guaranteed elsewhere. Before coming here, we had a nightmarish experience at another facility--Complete Care at Prospect Heights in Hackensack, NJ. My grandfather was severely neglected there, developing a urinary tract infection and a painful diaper rash that landed him back in the hospital. The staff was overworked and unable to attend to him in a timely manner. If he needed a diaper change, I had to remind the nurses multiple times, often waiting 60-90 minutes before anyone helped. And that was with me physically present and insisting--so I can't imagine the neglect when no one was watching. The nurses at Complete Care rarely answered questions, often making empty promises to follow up and then never returning. If my grandfather wasn't in a physical therapy session, he was left alone in bed all day because the staff was stretched too thin to provide anything beyond the bare minimum. The facility smelled strongly of urine, was outdated, unsanitary, and completely dysfunctional. I know some people might have concerns about going to Paterson. While the city itself has areas that need improvement, this facility is located in a quiet cul-de-sac by a high school, next to a modern apartment complex, and across from a church. The area is clean, suburban, and safe, with two parking lots. At no point did I feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or concerned. I share all of this to emphasize what truly matters when choosing a care facility: consistent, compassionate, and attentive care. That is what makes all the difference, and that is exactly what the staff at Doctors Subacute Care provides. Doctors Subacute Care's slogan is "Your Bridge Back Home." They lived up to their word. There are hardly any garbage bins and peope have to share them between the bathrooms and the rooms. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and the cheapest quality you can get. If it snows, you are on your own out there walking on the ice! The staff hates their job and they don't know what they are doing. Don't get me wrong some of them are nice and actually care but most of them don't. Be prepared to take food to your loved one 3 times a day because the food they serve I would not even give to my dog. They have no water for drinking so you have to bring in your own water bottles. The ice machine is disgusting. Therapy is kind of ok but they don't really push people to get better quickly, it will take forever to gain your strength back at that pace. Their so called services, like hair and nails is non-existent. Take it from me, don't even think about sending someone here. I regret it so much. It is literally like watching American Horror Story.

A message was left and no return call. I telephoned a second time and still no call back. I called the location at Cedar Crest Boulevard and the scheduler informed me that there was an urgent request for a call back and that we would receive a call back that day. No call back either time. For sure not a nice way for a patient to be treated after surgery. Made an appointment with a urologist at Cedar Crest. Hoping this facility will be a better choice.

He was kind and explained what the procedure was and how it would executed. The staff at this office are amazing. Number 1 in my book. Many times you a staff running around and talking and not paying attention to the patient. Not here. These people are kind, loving, and so very professional. From the moment I spoke to them on the phone to the day I left after my post surgery consul, they were were with me all the way. I'm a pharmaceutical representative and I call on doctors and they're staff and I see a lot of negativity. Not here, folks, this office and Dr Moyer are a class act. I originally wrote this review before the 2024 Memorial Day holiday weekend. I rated the facility a…read more"2" then, but more recent experience on May 28, 2024 requires I lower the rating to "1"! You should read the review, but what caused today's revision was learning the MRI report I was informed had been sent the ordering physician on Friday 5/24/24 was not the whole story. A fax was sent Friday, but it was not the actual report. The incompetent party who sent Friday's fax sent a questionnaire connected to my MRI report, but not the actual report. So, it took multiple phone calls on 5/28/24 and tons of frustrating wasted time on 5/28/24 to finally get it done. So? I had used both the hospital and their ambulatory care center a few times previously. Both are in Livingston, NJ. This review regards an MRI that was performed on May 20, 2024. The procedure itself was unremarkable. I did not wait long for an 8AM appointment, which is one of the pluses. The staff were also pleasant and professional. So, why only a 2 out of 5? Everything that followed has been nightmarish and totally unacceptable. It seems since Robert Woods Johnson took over, this place has gone to hell. The followup post-MRI has demonstrated a dysfunctional, disorganized, and non-empathetic group of medical practitioners. What I think of them is unprintable. It's now Friday May 24, 2024 and for three days both I and the ordering physician's office have been calling to get the MRI results sent to the ordering physician. We keep being told the results are not ready and can take 5-7 business days. Huh? I've had MRIs before and results should be available within 24-48 hours. This 5-7 business days is an inexcusable travesty. There's worse though! Worse is there's no one to talk to about why the MRI results should be expedited. This lack of a report is delaying another procedure. And I'm suffering physically due to this facility's lack of efficiency and lack of caring. Every call I seek a patient advocate, but there's no such person. I am told to speak with Ed Figueroa, the radiology department head. That would be great, if he'd answer his phone or return his calls, if the alternate phone number on his voice mail was an actual existing phone number. Unbelievable? It sure is. Uncaring and unsympathetic. No patient advocates? Unheard of. I also tried the ambulatory care center's concierge desk. Donna, a pleasant sounding woman tried to help me. That ultimately went nowhere though. I called her again 2 hours later. Again she's pleasant, but ultimately of no help. Call backs thereafter and she will not pick up the call. Now she's dodging my calls. This is an abomination. This place is to be avoided. If I had real convenient alternative choices, I'd make them. For now, I'm stuck with these folks.

Scott & Rob are knowledgable and skilled with a great depth of understanding & compassion. They have motivated me to do more & as a result I am far beyond my expectations & still going. I highly recommend Good Shepherd & especially Scott & Rob. They are very astute with assessing each patient & their bright & patient personalties make therapy enjoyable. I look forward to each visit & am overjoyed at each step of improvement that I have made. Thank you Scott & Rob & thank you Good Shepherd for having the diligence to employ such talented individuals. First of all, the receptionist is possibly one of the rudest people I have had the displeasure of speaking to. She is nasty, irritable, condescending - and all within a single 5 minute phone call. They insisted on making me come back, saying it was urgent (after I explicitly told them it was very difficult for me to take off of work). I ended up making an appointment. My appointment lastest none but 2 minutes! And he simply said "nothing's wrong, as far as I can tell". Then charged me (and my insurance) an exorbitant charge for literally nothing. I'm now in the process of trying to get them to fax some results to another doctor, and have been trying for days now. They said "we already did something with your stuff" (that sentence is taken verbatim from a recent conversation). I simply said that my new doctor requires that it be sent. She said "then send us a fax". After attempting to send a fax and repeatedly getting a failed attempt message I called the office to let them know and I am greeted with yet more attitude and nasty responses. I have still yet to get my results faxed.

I really like the homey feel of the office and that I see the same doctor every time. The staff is very efficient and caring. The turn around of requested documentation is very quick. The doctors take the time to listen to the concerns and do not seem rushed. It is rare that I have to wait for more than 20 minutes after the appointment to be seen. More often than not we are seen right away and the nurses are great with the boys. In addition to my boys being treated by these doctors my brothers were also patients of this wonderful duo. It's been my experience at other doctors' offices that all to often patients are treated like cattle and pushed through their visits as fast as possible just to make money for the Doctor and the office. Not here. Here the staff and Doctors care about giving their patients the best care possible and the time to talk to the Doctor about their medical issues. All the support staff are kind and efficient. When calling to make an appointment or refill medication the staff acts in a timely manner. I highly recommend this doctors office.
