I've watched Hackettstown hospital evolve throughout the years from the 1970's until now. It's gone downhill. I'm sorry to be the one to point that out . Personally, in the year 2025, Hackettstown hospital is a great place to go to to die. That's about it. I've had several bad experiences with different nurses there. There is an ICU nurse in particular who I am absolutely horrified is involved in patient care at all. Outside of work, she drinks and drives and has a horrible drinking problem. The hospital should be monitoring her for alcohol use on the job. It's negligent that they just allow her to keep caring for patients. I wouldn't send the worst inmates in the state there, unless they were going there to die. read more

Just wanted to mention again like I did 10 years ago, my daughter came in for pain in her abdomen, and she was told by the emergency department. It was cramps come to find out. She had a ruptured appendix and she had to go to Morrison memorial for surgery. I'll never forget this. read more

I was brought by ambulance to the emergency last night after falling on the ice and smacking my head and body. I was totally disoriented and had severe memory loss. Waited forever to be looked at and I was brought to intake. I told them what happened. Never checked for a concussion and totally ignored that I hurt my lower right back. They put me in a wheelchair in the corridor of the waiting room for about an hour and a half. They told me not to sleep and I told them I was drowsy. That made no difference to them. Finally I was taken in for a ct scan. I asked-what about my back. He said it was not ordered. The tech was very good. Brought back to the corridor again. I received my ct results on my chart but did not see a doctor for around an hour and a half. Was not impressed. I told her no one even checked my pupils so she checked them. I mentioned my back and oh well. Do you want an xray? By that time I was hurting and disoriented and disgusted I was taught heart and head injuries are a priority. Would not recommend this hospital at all. read more

Missing money On Monday 8/5/24 I was seen by a doctor who goes to my mom at her home. I go to the same doctor in the office. I told her that I already went to hackettstown hospital and they did an X-ray, no fracture was found. But listening I went to the emergency room. I told her that I went 2 weeks ago but my foot kept getting bigger with a lot of pain in my foot, while there the doctor admitted me for surgery. While still in emergency a woman from admissions came in to make a list of my positions. She asked if I had money and I said yes, I knew I had it scattered in many pockets, so I went through my purse and my wallet. In total I had 23-20.00, 1-5.00 and 5-1.00 in total $270.00. I put the money in my wallet. On Wednesday 8/7 I had surgery. I awoke back in my room 441. I was tired and fell asleep again. When I awoke I found myself in the ICU not knowing why and when my room was changed, I questioned how and why I was in the ICU. I didn't get a response, I was told to stay in bed and not to take off the oxygen nor was I given an excuse for why I needed the oxygen in ICU. I was not told anything. I sat up facing the door, my purse was on the other side of the room on the window ledge and all of a sudden 8 ppl came rushing in. I turned and I saw a heavy black man go right into my purse and wallet. Why would they feel justified going through my purse and wallet? I stated "I did not give you permission to go into my purse" I said this 4 times but no one listened or answered, I was ignored I felt like a piece of shit. I tried to remove the oxygen because I was completely dry in my sinus and mouth and the oxygen made it worse, no one listened, and no one cared of what I was going through. I had nasal spray and prescription medicine in my purse because I go to my mom's during the week to help her after her fall, I went to the hospital on Monday, I was already at my mom's. While in ICU the following morning I was tested on drinking, swallowing and walking. Before I went into a new room, the nurse came in and advised me regarding the move. She had a list, the same list she wrote up on Monday night. With the list of my possession, she wanted me to go through my purse to make sure I still had the money as well as all my belongings I came in with. At first I said I don't need to, I never thought that someone would go through my purse. She took out my wallet were I had the $270.00, I looked and there was NO MONEY. OMG. So they took out the list that was processed upon arrival in the ER. I had 270.00 in my wallet and another 30.00 in the front pocket. After noticing the money was missing they told me it most likely went to security and to stay calm. But then they noticed a card was not in the bag with my belongings. I was told when they take money, it gets sent to security and a card with the amount would be in the bag. but the security card was missing. Now, I would not of gone through my purse because I trusted the hospital, thanks to the nurse in ICU that particular day day it was she who made me look, or else I would have found out when I got home. Because the card went missing I was told an investigation was opened to help me find out where my 270.00 went. How many integrations are needed? As I was being discharged my prescriptions was returned but not my money. They said they didn't know anything about it. How could they not know anything about it? I questioned where my money went, they knew nothing about the money. So who is telling the truth? Does security have the my money or was I robbed. They gave me a paper showing the 30.00 I had in a pocket on Friday when I went back to the forth floor in room 401 however, I want to know where my $270.00 went too? It's not 20 or 27 it's 270.00, money I needed to pay my electric bill. I'm really upset. I never thought I would get robbed in a hospital. If you speak with the nurse who was working that Friday in ICU she had the original paperwork showing I came in with 270.00. In the event I do not get my money back I will write a review with this exact statement. I will file a suit and demand hackettstown hospital pay for my attorney fees. An employee stole $270.00 from my wallet. The employee at hackettstown hospital is a thief and should be FIRED. As for the staff, there are a few that comes from the heart but not ALL. No compassion, empathy and do not communicate with the patient. How do you run a hospital with No compassion, empathy or communication. They only care for the mighty dollar. On 9/29/2021, I was told by my primary physician to get x-rays at the Hackettstown Medical Center to rule out an issue with my right arm. I had two insurances at that time that should have covered the expenses. For the few x-rays that were taken, the gross amount of the bill came to $779.00. The primary insurance carrier (United HealthCare) advised the plan to allow $180.02 to be charged due to the contractual agreement. The secondary insurance carrier (Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ) paid $36.00 which was 20% of the $180.02. THREE YEARS LATER, I now get a bill from a collection agency, acting on behalf of the Hackettstown Medical Center for $429.36. Instead of using my primary insurance carrier's contractual allowance of $180.02, they used the secondary carrier allowance of $465.34. I feel the Hackettstown Medical Center billing department screwed me up as I could not get any medical insurance information due to the time-lapse with the records all on microfiche which took almost a month to receive back. Numerous times I have tried to discuss this with both the hospital billing department and collection agency to no avail. I do not feel it is fair after three years of not getting a bill from the hospital then be threatened with potential bad credit implications from a Collection agency. read more

i came in for a hard fall on my head.concousion. the next thing they did a complete check up.i only cane in for my head. i had back surgery 2 years ago and still have side effects, the next thing was suppose to be a doctor and told me i did not have mush longer to live until he opened my back. i said no at least a dozen times. no well he saw that was a uption he started on this stimulator shit. he stocked me. all i came was from falling and hitting mt head i had a concussion so why did the mri for my back a complete medical check up, dr dimwit wou not let me gp 2 days after they observe me for my head, then doctor would not release me until he could open my back.at this point i had to take matters into my own hands before they killed me. as soon as my stocker walked in again for the fifth time i started to cry and got very loud. not a academic award but you got to do what ever works .suddenly the stimalor idea was a bad chose and my abyss suddenly disappeared no test were done but i was a cured. magic if you value your life stay away from this horrible hospital.you can say no to a test but really they do not care. mu uranins was good but when they already knew i had a concussion whats the point. i am traumatised by that hospital and what that hell with opening my back after 2 years, going to a real doctor not one that bought his medical from walmart. graduated 9th grade and pretending to be a surgeon. value your life morristown is a real hospital... please take this complaint serious debbie petrshinlease be alert and on your guard if you go there, god bless,please be careful this place, i was a cna for over 30 years and have seen anything like this read more

I was in the a couple months ago, and my experience was terrible. I went into the ER, and was not seen for 4 hours while in severe pain in my stomach. The doctor finally came in and prescribed me some pain meds, which helped. While in the ER, they accidentally brought someone in who had an infectious disease, and whom was not supposed to be in that ward. They had to have one of their nurses, already understaffed due to scheduling, stand outside the door to make sure the patient didn't leave. They were adamant about me staying overnight, and mocked me for wanting to leave and use alternative methods. I had no pain, but they still recouping stay to get my white blood cell count down. The bathrooms smelled so badly of urine, and it leaked out into my room. I called and they cleaned it, but the urine smell was overwhelming the rest of my stay there. When I checked myself out AMA the next day, the doctor called me and insisted I see a liver doctor because they said I had an enlarged spleen, and that could've meant that I have a blood disorder. I saw a specialist for that issue a month later and he said that the doctor who told me that was wrong, and that my spleen was not even that enlarged. He said the doctor should've known it was in reaction to the gallbladder attack. If you go to this hospital, you run the risk of being misdiagnosed by their doctors who are either undertrained, or just looking to get more money from you. God hell you if you stay in one of their piss soaked rooms. I would avoid this medical center at all costs, unless you're dying. read more

this place is ridiculous I went for a stress test witch took 1 1/2 hours then I was supposed to have an echo cardiogram but I waited over almost two hours before I left. now I gat billed 16,407 and my insurance paid 15,655 witch is crazy for 1 1/2 hrs. So, this is my first encounter with the Emergency Room due to an emergent medical situation with my mom, who was referred to nearest ER for possible DVT. I just relocated to this area of NJ coming from NYC and my impression is that this establishment performed pretty well considering a few factors. Firstly, we came in during holiday season just after Christmas, so staffing appeared to be low as not only did we have to wait about four hours before being seen, but I could see that what staff they had from reception on up to nurses and MD were working non-stop. The MD COS was particularly worked, but was patient, kind and very personable. I point that out mainly due to my mom actually being a retired nurse and a handful in personality, so the fact that they were able to handle her professionally says a lot. LOL! Also, a lot of folks were apparently somewhat inpatient with the wait, but reception still was courteous. Finally, I know I'm coming from NYC and am very familiar with world-class ER's, but this ER just seemed really tight on space and had to resort on placing patients on gurney's in hallway areas. Nit the staff's fault, and it was the holiday season, but I hope the hospital is looking to expand. I was initially told not to take my mom here, but it was nearest and I didn't want to travel the extra hour to the "better" hospital. I'm glad we came here and would return if need arises. read more

Went to the emergency room yesterday, my husband was in severe pain. Dr. Came in and checked him and did a bunch of blood work and x- rays we told him specifically what was wrong and he told us that he would check this and never did. Told him that they couldn't find anything wrong. After a night of more pain I called his urologist on urgency and they took him in immediately. Turns out that he has a severe infection and gave him antibiotics. I myself had been misdiagnosed in the past. I will never go to this hospital again. Unfortunately where I live this is the closest hospital. I am so angry and am waiting for a callback from the director. read more

I have been to Hackettstown Medical Center hospital numerous times for tests but something has definitely changed since late 2020 to 2021. I called 3 days in a row to try to schedule an Ultrasound. You reach a person saying they are in central scheduling, then you are transferred and put on hold forever. They do give you the option calling you back by end of day. That did not happen either. That was day 2. I called today and was told there were at least 9 people ahead of me and they were not sure how long the wait was. I tried calling HH direct and no answer. You use to be able to call the desk and get an appointment but not anymore. To call numerous times in 3 days to make an appointment and sit on hold for over 30 minutes each time is unheard of. I decided to try Image Care at Hackettstown rt 46. They answered immediately and I scheduled an appointment with them for next week. Guess I will go there from now on. When things ARE NOT broken HMC, don't try to fix them!! Old way was BEST way for patients. And please stop saying in the message that you care about me!! I recently had surgery to repair an Umbilical Hernia. It was my first visit to Hackettstown Medical Center. From time of Admission, through Pre-Op in Same Day Surgery , to the O.R. , Recovery , and back to Post-Op, the entire staff, Nurses, and Doctors, were all professional with excellent Bed Side Manner, all combining to make my surgery uneventful. When my stepdad was discharged the doctor never called to talk to us with instructions. We didn't get his discharged paper work. Service is horrible. Called the nutrition dept. of Hackettstown Medical Center to inquire about a making an appointment with a nutritionist there. I was told Medicare would not cover it and the cost would be $432.00 minus 89% discount for self pay. I agreed to this cost of $47.52 and made the appointment. This is a one on one, one hour meeting with a nutritionist. I was sent a good faith estimate stating the above figures and was told the $47.52 had to be paid before the class. I paid, took the class and then 5 days later was billed an additional $113.48. Four calls to billing and still no answer to what changed. This billing process seems almost fraudulent as they won't tell you why the bill quadrupled only that you have to pay it. I don't know why there was a good faith estimate to begin with when there were no variables and they certainly don't exhibit good faith. read more

My mother in law went there and spent 12 hours in the ER before we called and gave the nurse a toung lashing before they put her in a room. Now my father in law went there and spent 6 hours in the hall and got an infusion in the hallway WTF???? Never ever will I let them go there again because they can not handle the patient load. This hospital' emergency room is awful. From the moment you walk in, you'll see the filth. Everything is old which surprised me since the building looks great from the outside and I heard they are under new administration. I had to wait 1 1/2 hrs for my daughter to be seen. She was crying from the pain and all the receptionist kept telling was "any moment now, we have beds available they just cleaning up." Once inside, everyone is running around talking loudly and talking personal crap which I found extremely unprofessional. We waited for another hour before Dr. Tim checked out my kid. The doc was actually nice and took his time talking to us. But the place is a dump! There is so much dust everywhere, the furniture is broken, caskets on the floor, open syringes on top of the nurse's station, the water dispenser is from 1981, the bathrooms are totally filthy. Attached are few pics. The staff is not attentive and doesn't follow up. They are disorganized and rude. Three nurses came in to our room within an hour to ask the same damn things. When I stepped out to ask a nurse for water, the first thing that came out of her mouth was "I just got here." I said I just want to know where the drinking water is.... I'm so disappointed, sad and pissed at the same time! I recommend that if you can drive a little longer to another hospital, do so. This place is scary.. read more

My recent surgical procedure was successful in all areas. Pre-Op staff was friendly and professional. The anathesiolist and doctor came by to discuss what was going to happen. The surgery started on schedule and I was in post-Op at the estimated time. Post op went smoothly and I was discharged timely. Everyone was was professional and made the entire experience pleasant (as pleasant as any surgical can be). I would recommend HMC to anyone. My doctor was Dr Gross. The best. read more

If I could put zero stars I would. My Fiancé and I went to the ER because she and I were worried that she may have had an appendicitis. Mind you, we had also gotten a doctors opinion who insisted that we go to the ER. When we got there we were taken into a room for about 5 minutes. After they ran a few tests we were told everything was clear but there was another man who was non-responsive who needed the room. So we did not put up a fuss, we just went into the hallway to wait for other tests. Luckily she did not have an appendicitis but come to find out two months later that they charged us for a $1,500 private room for her stay. Insurance has stated that this should not have been done and yet they are still saying we must pay it. If you have the option, whatever you do, do not go to the ER here unless you want to pay additional medical bills for things you did not receive. read more

I will never ever go back to this emergency room EVER. I have pneumonia and came in excruciating pain and shortness of breath. The ER dr saw me for less than 5 minutes and 6 hours later my husband saw him eating cupcakes at the front desk. This guy never even checked on me ~ not even for 10 seconds after the initial meeting. We told the nurse to take out the IV and we left . This is why the trip to Morristown is worth the drive. This Dr actually told my husband he was busy .... I just received a letter from Collections from my hospital visit over a year ago. I been making payments every month early over 100$ & those idiots still put me in collections. they sent me numerous bills pretending that I didn't have insurance. Took me over a year contacting my insurance BCBS just to get the hospital to stop double dipping. & don't get me started about my treatment for a kidney stone because that's a long story & a nightmare. That female doctor was a Cee U Next Tuesday! Go anywhere but here, they treat you like shit, I seriously Hope that doctor gets a kidney stone & knows how painful it is & gets the same treatment. There was absolutely no screening whatsoever when I went to visit my grandma. Pretty much just walked right in with a mask on told them who I was visiting and they asked my name and gave me a sticker and that was it. No temperature check no questions about travel or if I had symptoms at all. Not very happy with that. Not sure if I will be going back because it doesn't seem like they are caring about who they allow in or not. read more

My review is about the HRMC Cafeteria. It is DISGUSTING. They used to have really good food, but in the past six months or so their food is subsistence food. Today they had tacos. Tacos at a hospital cafeteria! They put almost no meat in it, and the meat was dry and tasteless. To go with the tacos, they had dry, tasteless rice w/a few red beans mixed in. The other options looked equally as bad or worse. I had to go to HRMC for medical tests, and this is the only reason I was there. I've had to go for several tests recently; and I went to the cafeteria because it's right there, especially if I have had to fast. No more. This place is just the worst food in the world. No quality whatsoever. I don't know who is in charge of this kitchen budget or menu; but I would look at them very closely, because no money is being spent on quality food. I feel bad for the staff, who have to eat there. They should all go on strike till they get better food in there. The poor hospital visitors, too! read more

Dr Senzer and HMC gave excellent care to Ed (pneumonia). Our family has gone to HMC for other health issues (children with hernia), my Mom Vera (pneumonia) and heart issues, that were immediately addressed,health soon restored and able to return home. We have never experienced anything but great care, timeliness and the facility being very clean. read more

I came in yesterday at 5am and called for help when I parked the car bc I couldn't walk. The woman who came out was nasty to me about parking and calling for help. I get in the ER and the doctor told me I had compartment compression syndrome and I needed to be transferred to newton. They did the shift switch at 7am and the new doctor came in and said I was fine he's discharging me. When I questioned him about his decision since it seemed so different from the last he decided to come in and poke me twice with two huge needles to do the compartment test again and I asked if he was going to numb me like the other doctor and he said no. He completed the test and said im fine I will be discharged. 10 mins later my nurse came in and said they are moving me upstairs and wasn't sure why besides to run some tests and make sure I don't clot. Once I was moved upstairs and settled in I didn't really see anyone until I was trying to sleep. I woke up today and was told at 4am I'm getting an ultrasound. At about 2ish a woman came in to have me sign a paper and asked if they told me I'm under observation and I said what do u mean.. she said well insurance may or may not cover you! I said no one told me that. Here it is 3:30pm and still haven't gotten an ultrasound. Nobody has any answers! read more

We also had a very unfavorable experience at this hospital approximately two years ago. My son went to the emergency room doubled over in pain...tears streaming out of his eyes and basically unable to even stand up. The emergency room doctor sent him home saying that it was likely gas and that he was probably constipated. The following day, my son went to his regular doctor, who ordered several tests. The doctor actually called us on his way home from the test to let us know that his gallbladder needed taken out immediately. Sad unfortunately that this was not the only bad experience we have had at this hospital. Needless to say, we choose another one when needed. read more

My grandfather was having a hard time breathing so we took him here. After waiting hours and tons of tests, the doctors still didn't know why. They admitted him but it took them three days to figure out he had lung cancer! And when the doctor did tell him it was cancer, she was the coldest, most uncaring individual ever! She wouldn't even let him have his wife of over 50 years be there for support. We had him transferred to Leigh Valley Hospital and never looked back. Unless you have absolutely no other choice do not choose this location for medical care. Was cared for and released on Monday, had to go back on Tuesday for the same treatment and released again. I immediately followed up with my physician. The "true" diagnosis was completely opposite of anything said at Hackettstown medical and I began getting treated for a rather serious condition at a great hospital on Thursday! I was kept in a hallway once then stuck in a chair in a corner the other time while waiting for extremely young looking doctors who did not listen to their patient and had absolutely no bedside manner. read more

The quality of care and the management of the ER are dismal. The ER doctor who saw us was unprofessional, had limited knowledge of toxicology, and went to medical school in Mexico (many students whose grades are too poor to get admitted to a US med school go out of the country, e.g., Grenada). The ER's head nurse was militant, patronizing, and poorly educated. I took a child to the ER because I feared he might have swallowed cleaning product before we could get it away from him. I learned more from a perusal of the NIH website and the MSDS for the product than the ER staff knew. They had to call Poison Control to find out how to respond. I had already called poison control immediately after the incident, and I told the call center I felt uncomfortable responding to what seemed like intrusive questions that were unrelated to my child's problem , e.g., "what is his last name." The call center told me that providing the information was purely voluntary. I mentioned to the the ER doc, Dr. Ira Seid, that poison control was asking questions that seemed intrusive for a "help line," so, given the option, I chose not to disclose some of the information they requested. Dr. Seid told me I had nothing to worry about because Poison Control was simply gathering the data for "demographic purposes." He was clearly being dishonest; Dr. seid conferred with the head nurse who felt my reluctance to provide that optional information to Poison Control represented suspicious behaviour. DYFS was at my home within an hour of our leaving the emergency room. If you want your child's emergency to be handled with speed, profesionalism, and respect, please consider Morristown, St. Clare's of Denville (not Dover), or Newton Memorial. I would only go to Hackettstown if I were hemorrhaging from a major artery. read more

If there was a way of giving this hospital fewer than zero stars, I would. This was hands down the worst hospital experience I have ever had. While there were a few staff who were kind and doing their jobs to the best of their ability in such an uncoordinated and in considerate environment, the vast majority of "treatment" I received ranged from being treated without courtesy and respect, to criminally negligent. I was left in some converted office space in ER for twenty four hours. My belongings were confiscated. I was given four different varying reasons why. My overnight bag and toiletries had been dumped out into a trash bag and stored in a "shed". When I got them back three days later items were missing. I begged staff for a comb, a toothbrush, and a clean gown. That took a full day. It took seven hours after I had been approved for solid food to get a meal. I was given ice chips one time during that entire period. If I asked to be detached from my IV to use the restroom, I was ignored, in spite of being listed as a fall risk. My fiance was two floors above me and trying to call administration to get me fed, and properly clothed, and diagnosed. I never recieved an actual diagnosis, in spite of being given IV antibiotics for three days, blood thinners, and anti clotting meds. I assume that something was wrong with me. I went in fearing appendicitis. I was prescribed a couple of over the counter vitamins and and then left sitting outside the hospital waiting for a Lyft for three hours. The last thing I was told was that I would at least get my dinner before I left as Lyft that they arrange can take a long time out there (I came in by ambulance). Nope. I got almost no food or water in their "care". They lost my things, kept me in an unsanitary condition for three days, prescribed me vitamins, and when I begged for treatment for a condition they and I knew I had (because I told them) told me to go to an outside clinic in two weeks. I would have been healthier staying at home. And no, I didn't have Covid. Go someplace else. Anyplace else. A vet would be better. read more
