I have been…read morewaiting years and years to take my son but either I had work that day or my son had school that day. And I wasn't about to call out of work since my job was right around the corner. I have been on a few tours but haven't seen many tour guides this knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the place they are presenting. Gary, our tour guide and the president of this company, was dressed in costume as Andrew Jackson, whom the city was named after. Did you know he was state governor? Me neither. The tour my son and I attended was the Tuesday tour which takes you to a rooftop view as well as the underground view in a tunnel and underground vault. Sadly the restaurant in the tunnel and the top floor cafe in the bank of america building were no longer there (but good thing I took my son to both places years ago!), but we still go to learn tons about the city and saw some cool places. We went to a rooftop restaurant with a gorgeous view of the river. It was on a day that it was closed, so the tour group had the place to ourselves. Afterwards, we went downstairs and down into tunnels from one building to another. In one of the tunnels, we went to an underground vault only accessible through the tour. The door to the vault was still functional. It was really cool to open it and see some historic documents inside, and then surprisingly a fallout shelter! Along the path, we discussed some historical photos and learned about the changes in the city throughout the decades as well as some interesting historical tidbits, such as the city's previous life as the hub of movie industry during the silent era. Afterwards, we checked out some of the murals by James Weldon Johnson Park (named after the civil rights activist and writer) and learned about the original sculpture that inspired one of the murals. The sculpture "Lift Every Voice and Sing," named after the James Weldon Johnson poem, was created by the local artist Augusta Savage from Green Cove Springs. I really appreciate the inclusion black historical residents on this tour. This is something that history books rarely mention. Great tour, super informative, fun and interesting. I look forward to trying one of the other tours in the future.

While the staff can't control the weather, it seemed as though they could've done more so that the animals would be more comfortable in the heat! The day ended up being miserably uncomfortable for us, as well as the animals. Some were impatiently pacing in their cages. Some were just lying around in the dirt. Two were recovering from surgeries. All of the animals looked well cared for and some were enjoying some snacks while we were there. Our "walking tour" included a walk around the facility to each animal's habitat and the guide discussing multiple facts about the animals lives and journey to the Reserve. Start to finish, it took about an hour and included a bottled water. I'd recommend strollers for your kids. It's an unsafe place to allow young children to wander around. The "public" restroom is a port-o-let outside the gated entrance to the reserve. It was just as clean as the ones at a football game/concert! There is no gift shop but they do ask for donations and give you a t-shirt in return. In movie terms, the reserve is the equivalent of a low-budget film. It's saving grace is the effort to keep these animals alive, but as they all grow, I feel like this "low-budget film will not be able to keep up with the demand! Too few employees for so many demanding large animals.

Ok, full disclosure, I "made" my husband take this tour with me. We were visiting for our…read moreanniversary and I HAD to do this tour. The reviews speak for themselves. (Pay no mind to the one ridiculous bad review. That guy is off his rocker...). Eddie and Melissa are the real deal. My husband was open minded about the experience so all I could hope for was that he had a good time. I was much more open to everything. We got through the intro at the office and we were on our way. Almost immediately at the Spanish Well (stop 1 of 3), my hubby got great pics of streaking orbs. He kept getting pulled toward areas and went with it. But from that first great pic, he was hooked. I didn't get much action there except some orbs, but it was a great first stop. Our second stop, the park by the lighthouse, was much more active! Hubby got "pushed" off a bench, and again, that got him more into it. I started humming to the "children" around and they started playing with hair (my hair was in a ponytail and I kept getting touched on the top of my head, so it wasn't wind blowing the tail, and I was no where near any low branches!). I sat at the same bench my husband got pushed off of and my digital camera (in my back rear end pocket) started vibrating. My camera does NOT vibrate! Once we got back to the "cat people" area, I got a lot more action. I heard a few hisses and one loud growl and I practically jumped onto my husband. I kept feeling my thigh and ankles being grabbed, lots of spider webs, and lots of random heaviness in my chest. Too cool! Our last stop was the most impressive. While I didn't get as much action there, personally, it certainly felt much different. The coquina mines are something else! It felt very heavy there. We kept hearing random noises that definitely weren't animals. At one point, my husband stepped a few feet off the trail, kneeled down and started taking pics. All of a sudden, all 4 of us started feeling and hearing stomping coming out of the woods and straight toward my husband. Both Eddie and Melissa both told him to get out of there which he thankfully did! They both said they saw 4 figures come up out of the ground about 6 feet in front of him. Both Eddie and Melissa said they had never seen anything else like that before. THAT was impressive! I still need to go through our pics from that moment, hopefully we got something. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that we were the first group to go through the mines with the lantern off. We must have "gone dark" for about an hour. I think the spirits appreciated that because we got a lot of action without it. All in all, this was the most fun we've had in a LOOOOONG time, maybe ever. I can't wait to come back to St. Augustine and go back out with Eddie and Melissa to some other active places. If you're looking for a REAL paranormal tour, look no further. You won't regret it!!!

Within the first 5-10 minutes, another airboat from this same company intentionally sprayed our boat while we were sitting still. I ended up completely soaked and spent the rest of the tour in wet clothes and standing water in my Birkenstocks. I read the website and waiver beforehand and didn't see anything saying passengers should expect to be intentionally sprayed by another boat. If that's part of the experience, it should be mentioned so people can wear appropriate clothing or decide if it's for them. It also felt like the two captains were joking around with each other, but unfortunately the paying passengers were the ones who got caught in the middle. One other thing to be aware of: the bathrooms were out of order, leaving only one portable toilet that was extremely full and unpleasant to use. I don't write reviews often, and I'm not expecting a perfectly dry airboat ride. I fully expected some spray from the ride itself. I just think guests should know about these things ahead of time so they can come prepared or choose not to participate. With a few changes, this could have been a much better experience. ****Thank you for the response. I appreciate you confirming that intentionally soaking paying customers, providing unusable restroom facilities, and dismissing legitimate concerns is "exactly what your experience is all about." I couldn't have written a better warning for future customers myself.

This was my first time on an airboat, and it definitely did not disappoint. While I wish we had seen a bit more wildlife, we still got to spot an alligator, a few turtles, and some beautiful ospreys along the way. The music added a really fun energy to the ride and made the experience even more memorable. Overall, I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a unique and exciting adventure.
