Very glad to have found an experienced, knowledgeable and honest dentist. I was quite impressed with Dr. Olson's assessment of my teeth. No up-selling or unnecessary treatments included with my visit. Just a good cleaning and examination. I appreciate a dentist and office staff who give you good service and are honest. I have been to a couple dentists in Fernandina that while there offices are shiny and new, they lack experience and are more in a sales position than a medical treatment stance. I have had offices try to sell me their dental insurance, when I have great insurance of my own, and also try to drill my teeth because they "might" get a cavity. I "might" get struck by lightning tomorrow too. Once a tooth is drilled into, it is forever compromised and weakened. I don't like going to a dentist and feeling like I am negotiating for a used car when I am just trying to get my teeth cleaned and ensure there are no underlying problems. I read other reviews of this place and I think they are reviewing the office team that WAS there. Dr. Olson and his crew took over this office. Be prepared that it is not a shiny and new office. The dentist isn't either and I mean that in a good way. He has experience, knowledge and isn't looking to make a buck off his patients. read more

I don't know exactly what's going on, but this office clearly needs intervention. There has been significant staff turnover since I first became a patient about two years ago. Dr. Olson's quality of care declined noticeably--one example being a filling he placed that fell out just six months later. During that time, it was nearly impossible to reach anyone at the office by phone; the only contact available was a third-party call service located overseas. The office then appeared to be closed for several months, with no clear communication. While the practice has since reopened with new staff and a new doctor, they are clearly understaffed. I waited an hour and a half for my appointment. When it was finally time for X-rays, the machine in the room was not working and couldn't transmit to their IT system. I was told the solution was to use another room, but that room was already occupied, requiring me to wait again until the doctor finished with other patients. I don't typically leave reviews, but this experience is worth mentioning. Ownership needs to step up and address these ongoing issues. The entire office is overdue for updates, including a thorough cleaning, fresh paint, and overall improvements to the quality and appearance of the facility. read more

Extremely poor customer service on the part of the corporate office. Western Dental. The staff here currently is great. It seems previous staff has made this office questionable. I went in for a simple cleaning. Was NEVER advised of a treatment plan nor did I sign anything. I believe the Dr was not aware of this. Provided unauthorized services un be-known us now want payment. I've tried to contact Western Dental with no response. This is like a roofer coming to my home and telling me I need repairs, making repairs without my ok and then wanting full payment. Is this practice in busness? My wife and I were there for our first visit in May. A week later, our cousin, who we had suggested she use the dentist, called to say that she had shown up for her first scheduled appointment, but the doors were locked and the practice was out of business. We tried to call, but their was no answer. In June, we received a large bill for the uncovered portion of our May visits. So my wife called and a very surly person answered. She told us the practice was closed and the dentist had moved closer to his family in another town. We requested copies of the xrays taken and the dentist's report on our oral examinations. The person, who was so loud that I could over hear what she said, did not want to provide the info so I told my wife that we should check into suing them. The person heard what I said. She apparently told my wife she would send her records and then she humg up us. Just recently, my wife told me that in reviewing what Ms. Surly had sent, she actually provided both our records. I have not paid the bill and received another copy this month. After debating what to do, I finally decided to pay the bill, forget about it, and find another local dentist. When I searched the Atlantic Smiles web site to see if I could find information to file a complaint with the Florida Dental Assoication (DOH), I was surprised to see that another dentist and staff has taken over. What is the status of this practice? Who is the dentist? What kind of record does he/she have? Is the same surly staff person still there? read more

This Dental Office was horrible. I walked in and no one was available at the front desk for 30 minutes as they were out to lunch (although they knew appointments were walking in). After 25 minutes the hygenist came out and supposedly checked me in. Another 10 minutes passed and the front desk lady finally arrived and sat at her computer and NEVER looked up to see that I was in the waiting room. I waited another 15 minutes and walked up the desk and she said 'Oh do you have an appointment I did not see you' Obviously she wasn't aware that people could have walked in while she was gone for 45 minutes and never bothered to even look in the waiting room upon her return. By now 50 minutes had passed. I got up and left. Never going back to this dentist. read more

This is the most unprofessional office I have ever encountered. having a front tooth fall out I went to get a replacement. They made me a fake tooth in an Invisalign plastic tray for a sub until I could get in for an implant or bridge. I paid $385 for it and they then submitted a claim for over $2200. I couldn't speak w/o a lisp and I couldn't eat so within 2 hours I took it out. I complained to Lisa in the office who takes care of insurance and she stated don't worry we will give you credit for what you paid. To this day I have not been able to speak to anyone. Lisa is no longer there. They sent me a bill for an additional $51 for who knows what. I physically stopped in as I was told regional management would be there to ask them to remove the $51 due to all that has happened and I would call it even. I was told by some hygienist who was handling a customer complaint that someone would call me. That was a week ago. There was no one in the office so maybe they are going out of business. I have been going to Atlantic smiles for the past couple years for my dental needs. Dr Olson is very gentle with his patients and gives great care! I will continue to use him for any and all dental needs. If there's one thing I always hated, it was going to the dentist! But he made the experience pleasant and tolerable! read more

Office staff are FANTASTIC!! My problem is the CORPORATE structure of this business. Staff can only do so much and corporate (regional manager, billing, insurance) process is worthless. Can't talk to anyone, won't return calls, but will send you an incorrect bill over snd over. Can I take the staff to my new office?!?!? read more

I'm new to the area and was looking for a practice that had one doctor plus staff. Dr. Olsen and his staff have been wonderful to work with. My initial exam was the most thorough I've ever had and I needed two very old fillings replaced. I don't use anesthesia and they were perfectly fine with that. He did an amazing job, so much so, that the adjustments for my bite were negligible! I'm very pleased with how I have been treated. The only small issue I had was regarding rescheduling an appointment. No one called me back and when I eventually got through they were apologetic and explained they were short staffed that day. I have zero smiles for Atlantic Smiles. I made an appointment weeks ago for an exam and cleaning. Marie left a message today to return the call about my appointment tomorrow at 1pm. I called back just 18 minutes later and was told that Marie has already left for the day. After some difficulty finding me in their computer I was told that my appointment had been changed to 9am. I replied that I had a different appointment in the morning and needed to keep the 1pm. I was told that they could see me at 9am or not at all. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! They are very unprofessional, front desk cussing and talking about other clients and personal business while waiting. Also charged for a elective procedure they said was covered by my insurance and was verified that day and then called 2 months later and told me I owed them for it that it was not covered. She knew I only did the procedure as long as it was covered and I gave them $500 on top of that. They steal from you !! The dentist has the personality of a wall. He did not speak, only about personal stuff to the assistant. The front desk called me and was yelling at me and hung up on me. Still having trouble on the tooth he supposedly fixed!!! I have had major restorative work this past year, and it all turned out perfect. The dentist, dental assistant, and hygienist were all very patient with me, and worked around my anxiety. Please do yourself a favor and don't go to this practice. Dr Olson is just plain unfriendly! I went several times feeling more and more uncomfortable but finally, when it took 5 attempts to get a simple bite-wing, that's when I said enough. Both the dentist Eric Olson and the staffs at Atlantic Smiles are unprofessional. I went there for a simple dental cleaning. I waited for more than an hour before I was finally called in. The dental hygienist did a full mouth x-ray images and brought me into an exam room. Dr. Olson came in, looked the x-ray, checked my teeth, and talked with the dental hygienist about a treatment plan. Then both of them walked out without any explanation, left me alone in the room, waited for about 50 minutes. I thought they forgot about me. Eventually, the dental hygienist came in and said she was still waiting for the front desk to finalize the treatment plan. I told her I was there for a dental cleaning. She said it was too late to do the dental cleaning and asked me to schedule for another appointment. At that moment, I should have moved away from Atlantic Smiles. But I thought maybe I should give them another chance, since they already had my teeth x-rays. If I went to another dentist, my dental insurance might not pay for it again. On my second appointment for dental cleaning, the dental hygienist made water all over my face and I was choked with water into my throat. Dr. Olson came in to talk about the dental treatment plan and saw the water on my face, he asked his assistant to clean it. His assistant (another woman with him, not the hygienist) went to get some brown paper from bathroom paper towel and wiped my face with the rough paper. I could not believe it how unprofessional they were. This is America. I can understand they have an old office with old equipment that needs some work and update. But use bathroom paper towel to wipe a patient's face? I was totally shocked. I would not recommend Dr. Olson and his practice to anyone. read more

At first they were very accommodating, but it went downhill fast. It took them 20 minutes to find the x-rays another office had sent over weeks earlier. The doctor looked at my teeth (which are generally in good shape) and said I needed a cleaning (what I was there for) and a deep pocket treatment on my upper left side. I asked him if that meant I would get an injection, and he said no. Then I went to see the hygienist, who promptly started giving me a shot in my gums. Also, she acted very ADHD, not focusing, repeating what she had already done, knocking instruments into my teeth, and cut my gum with one of her instruments that took a week to heal. And she only got to the left side. Today I went in for the right side to get cleaned, and she said I needed a deep pocket treatment (the dentist earlier said I did not). They would not let me get just a regular cleaning without the shot and treatment, so I left. read more

My first experience at this dentist was hugely disappointing. After a week, my mouth still aches from the key fob sized probe used to take my x-rays. The office is also dilapidated and in need of serious work. The staff, however polite, did not seem to have the requisite knowledge expected of a professional dental facility. Atlantic Smile very un-professional they did not verify insurance coverage due to laziness of their staff & once my daughter was seen charged us a fee and was promised reimbursement once they verify our coverage. They gave us a 4pm appointment and we were told they were never planning on treating daughter cavity because it was too late so why would they even bother giving us an appointment.
