The weather was great..even with the complimentary downpour day to let the skin come off sizzle mode..just perfect. We were a large family group... family coming in from NY, NM, Ca and Germany. We pushed the limits in space but with the backyard patio area, rooftop hot tub soaking deck (special accolades to that), the ocean so close and so many places you could walk, bike, paddle to we never at all came to in your face situations... which we all know with family is usually inevitable. We wanted to do something special for our Mom (Omi) for her birthday so we took Mary Ann and Tom's referral and hired the caterer that they suggested... we did a luau theme and they came to the house with the pig roast complete with Hawaiian veges and salads. I for one was amazed that we actually surprised her but I do believe we really pulled it off. We were initially hesitant to rent because of landowners sharing the same house..but we started our search late and there weren't many options to accommodate our large group so we took the chance. Couldn't have been any farther from the fears we had to reality. Always friendly and helpful.. never intrusive or controlling. By the time we left it felt like we were leaving old friends.... the hot donuts Mary Ann brought us from an old time LBI donut shop, the morning before we left sealed the deal! Our family grew up summers in LBI..staying with friends that owned and/or our family renting for weeks at a time. I think I can speak for our family in saying we came home that week. A wonderful magical place in our memories. Lucky me got to share it with my granddaughter while my Mom (Omi) is still with us and oh so big a center of our family. 4 generations of LBI addicts.... what better place to enjoy family!

Everything home-made from the scones, to frittata, fruit salad, lemon cream and clotted cream. It was served in a delightful lavender room with a blazing antique fireplace. We've attended several murder mystery dinners over the years, and this was the least engaging cast we've experienced. The acting lacked the energy and immersion we were expecting, especially considering the cost of the event. Since the performance is the main attraction, we had hoped for a much stronger production. While our server was kind, the service could have been more attentive. We had to ask for water refills and for our tea to be replenished with hot water. Those are small touches that guests should be offered rather than having to request, especially during a tea service. I was also disappointed that wine was only available by the bottle instead of by the glass. Lastly, my companion and I spent a great deal of time creating our costumes for the event. We stepped away briefly to explore one of the beautifully decorated rooms, and during that time the costume contest was held. We either didn't hear or weren't given a clear announcement before it began, so we completely missed the opportunity to participate. Better communication would have made a big difference. Overall, the venue, food, and tea were excellent, but the quality of the performance and some aspects of the service and event organization left us disappointed. With improvements in those areas, this could be a truly memorable experience.
