09-18-22 was in dire straits, truck completely broke down on a Friday nite needed to be leaving for work Monday morning at 2:00 am. We had truck towed to Atlas Automotive on 1st Street, the only place we could find that would help us on a weekend!! Mona helped us out she took care of everything had someone working on our vehicle on a SUNDAY!! The vehicle was repaired and running, by 4 pm on SUNDAY afternoon,ready for my 2 am departure for work Monday morning. Our SUV broke down in Moab, the water pump sprung a leak. None of the mechanics in town could work on our car for a week. We were referred to Atlas in Grand Junction by a local dealer. AAA got the truck towed to GJ, Duke @ Atlas ordered ahead the parts and was able to get us back on the road within 5 hours of receiving the vehicle. Their service was impeccable and prices very reasonable. In fact it cost us less than the estimate we had gotten in Moab. Highly recommend this shop to anyone needing car repairs. Excellent service when I had a mechanical problem on the freeway. They're open on Sundays and made time to fix my car while I waited. Mechanic Rick seems to really know his stuff, too--he found the problem and fixed it very quickly. The price was very reasonable, much less than I would have paid back home. I took my truck in for a routine oil change. I had called the Day before to schedule an appointment. I scheduled it for 8:30 AM and I arrived on time. They told me they would be a couple of hours. I called three hours later and they had not even started. They said they would get going on it. I called back another hour later and they said they would be pulling it into the bay shortly and come in an hour. I showed up at 1:30 PM and they had not even started my truck. The girl behind the front desk told me it was my fault and I should have scheduled an appointment. I tried explaining to her that I did. I asked for my keys and I will not be purchasing gas or going back. Very upset because I have gone there for 15 years. read more

Our wheel bearing went out in our RV. Atlas was recommended on a Sunday as being open. The Mechanic NIck checked the brakes and bearing to confirm my diagnosis and did research to find the part which could not be ordered until Monday. It came in on Tues and we had to be towed to the station. They couldn't get to it until Weds do to our getting there latter than planned. He allowed us to plug in and gave us coffee in the morning. He completed the work on Weds and got us on the road. They were great, friendly, informative and helpful. Reasonable too. Rick the owner and head Mechanic was great. While traveling through Grand Junction our car was sitting idling for an hour with the AC on, and my car warning lights came on and AC automatically turned off. We took the car to Atlas just before closing on Friday evening. We left it overnight so they could look in the morning. We got a call in the morning saying that there car was fine, it just needed to cool down and they cleared the codes. We were very relieved. I expected to pay a little for the diagnostic, but did not expect to pay $85. $85 for maybe 20 min of running the diagnostic and driving the car up and down the street? I can't imagine the crazy amount of money if have to pay if something was actually wrong with my vehicle. Customer service was eh, when I called in the morning to check on the car I was given sole attitude, the man was annoyed that I was calling as they had only been opened an hour. read more

Our power steering went out mid road trip and we ended up at Atlas. After a half hour or so waiting, we started to prepare ourselves for the worst and were looking up hotels to stay the night. Then they were able to trouble shoot the issue to the terrain control being stuck. Who would have guessed? They reset the control and we were on our way in less than an hour, super relieved and thankful for their ability to figure it out. Thank you! They also had an array of nickel and dime candies that helped entertain the kids while we waited. They supposedly changed the water pump got it home and looked under hood and all they replaced was the radiator cap and charged me 664.00.

Stopped here on my way to Denver, needed a 50/50 premixed coolant but was not available because there was only concentrate on the shelf. The owner gave me one of the premixed coolants his guys use in the shop at an unbelievable discount. He could've charged me full price, which is what I'd pay anywhere else around. After the owner's daughter saw my surprise, she remarked that "he's a pretty good guy." I'm inclined to agree . Will shop here again if I'm in the area. read more

I came in here after my old Escape suddenly started shaking like crazy during a multi-state road trip. It was clearly a misfire, but these guys gave me a definitive diagnosis in no time. They diagnosed it down to a dead cylinder with blown rings and gave me a full set of options. Very transparent and honest. I'm impressed with their speed, knowledge, and ability to educate and advise the customer on how to proceed for the best outcome without just trying to get you to spend money there unnecessarily. Even though it couldn't be completely fixed on the spot without canceling my road trip, they did get me back up and (mostly) running as best they could with a blown cylinder. Looks like I will need a new engine or new vehicle, but thankfully I didn't have to spend a ton of time, money and stress to find that out. These guys are great - if you need a mechanic who is down to earth, realistic, and trustworthy, then these are your guys. read more

We broke down on our way to Utah and got towed here in the middle of the night, and woke up to the most helpful and knowledgeable mechanics I've ever encountered. This is the kind of auto shop you dream of getting lucky enough to find. We are traveling in an old vehicle and it had a slew of issues that Rick, Lloyd, and Nick helped solve one by one. Rather than just throwing parts at the vehicle, they really problem solved and put time and energy into fixing us up and doing it right. And they are open on the weekend which we are so thankful for! Do not use Atlas unless you want your car working how it did prior before coming in. I had my car diagnosed at a dealership and with my mechanic in Utah before moving back home. All it needed was a heating core replacement and front brakes soon. NOW I Have a list of problems. Not only that I cannot use my car for over a month until it gets professionally fixed . It's overheating it's leaking the engine block is shaking it's burning it's burping the new water pump that they said needed to be replaced is shaking back-and-forth my Control functions in the vehicle no longer work. The fan doesn't work I do not know what he did to my car he also drove it 42 miles which I didn't give permission i understand they need to take it for a drive but that's ridiculous. It's idling at 220 for temp. He put a new thermostat and did not tell me until he did the job and he said he covered the cost why I want to know that wasn't brought up to me until after the fact. He also broke my steering wheel crank and did not know until I had to bring my car back the 1st time because I had parts in my backseat. How am I supposed to ever trust a mechanic ever again. And I'll be damed if I take it back in for them to fix more issues so what else can break after the 3rd time after Trying to trust them to fix the 1st problem. read more

I'd give Rick's shop 10 stars if I could. A few weeks ago, I was traveling from Crawford, CO back to Denver on a Saturday afternoon. Around 12:30pm, my serpentine belt fell apart on Hwy 50, 30 miles south of Grand Junction. Unfamiliar with the area, I called my insurance company and a few shops to see about a tow and a replacement belt. Fortunately, Napa in GC had ONE remaining belt for my '01 Eurovan. And when I asked if they could recommend someone to install it? They said "Call Atlas" without hesitation. I talked to Rick and he agreed to try and work me in that day. So a few hours later, I arrived at the shop with my van in tow. At first sight, I thought to myself, "Oh man...this will be interesting." Atlas is a modest shop, attached to a small convenience store and gas station. I know the Eurovan's VR6 can be a pain in the butt for the uninitiated, so I was starting to have doubts about getting out of GC before Monday... That all changed as soon as I met Rick. With 20 minutes of arriving, he had the serp belt AND the broken tensioner pulley that caused the problem out of the van. He came over and showed me exactly what happened with the part and started work calling around for parts. We had the belt, but the pulley was a surprise. Rick's a certified Napa shop, so they delivered a pulley within about 10 minutes of the first request. But unfortunately, it wasn't the right part. So Rick went back to the drawing board and started thinking through the issue. He realized that the Jetta carried the same engine as my van, and although the bolt pattern in the tension was slightly different, there was a high likelihood that the pulley would be the same. 5 minutes later, Napa arrived with the part, and sure enough - the pulley was a perfect fit. I was back on the road, Denver-bound, by 5:30. And the best part? I was the perfect candidate to get gouged on price. He could have charged me double what he did, and I would have had no choice but to pay up. But he charged a price that was fair (probably generous!), and wished us luck on the rest of our trip. If you're a Grand Junction resident, or having car trouble while passing through, you'd be crazy NOT to take your car to Atlas. read more

The most important thing you should know is that this place is one of the few auto shops open in Grand Junction on a Sunday -- a lifesaver for us as we were driving to Utah and had our Jeep break on I-70, Saturday night. We stayed in a motel and the next morning got to Atlas (it's a small gas station/auto shop) right 9 a.m. when they opened. They serviced us right away (correctly diagnosing the problem), ordered the part (they are a Napa Auto Parts affiliate), had it installed, and got us back on the road in about an hour-and-a-half. Very friendly the whole way, and there's a school, playground, park behind the building where we could hang out and walk the dogs as we waited. It helped save our camping trip! read more

Great service. We were on a family road trip and had some trouble leaving Durango. Made it into Grand Junction on a Saturday night and fully expected to have to extend our stay and wait for a mechanic. Luckily this place was open Sundays. I emailed the contact from google and got a response from Rick while he was on vacation saying Nick would be expecting me in the morning the next day. What a relief! Took the car, wife and 3 kids ( 4mos to 6y) and met Nick. They had a diagnosis in 15 mins and replaced the part within the hour. Price was great, staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Lloyd (87) was there and entertained the kids while we waited. It was a huge amount of stress handled promptly by these guys. Great shop, honest and trustworthy. If you get stranded, these are your guys. I wish we had them in our hometown. read more

I really can't say enough good things about Atlas Automotive! My car broke down in Utah after a road trip and we had it towed to Atlas purely because it was the only shop open late enough in Grand Junction. That turned out to be a VERY lucky move, as the breakdown happened on a Friday and Atlas is the only auto shop open in GJ on weekends! Rick, the owner, could've just looked at my car the next day, but instead he stayed an hour late to correctly diagnose my car and then drove my friend and I to a hotel for the night. He got to work on it again promptly the next morning, and when the necessary repairs were going to be too costly (a fact verified through pictures and phone convos with my dad), Rick bought my car at a fair price with the intention of fixing it up and donating it to a future family in need. Rick and his staff were kind, patient, and worked hard the entire time we did business with them, and I would DEFINITELY encourage you to take your business to this shop if you ever need checkups or repairs in Grand Junction. They go out of their way to take care of their customers and I never felt like I was at risk of being cheated. I guess there are still good people in the world! read more

We were on a trip from Gunnison when we started losing coolant. Our friend in Grand Junction recommended Atlas because she had her work done there. Rick got us in quickly the problem was diagnosed in about 15 minutes, Dodge crap plastic coolant T connector cracked, and he got us out in a little over an hour and a half at a good price. I was very happy with both the work and the price and the fact he showed us the broken piece and explained the problem. I join my friend in recommending Atlas for repairs. Atlas automotive what an amazing shop & one of few places open on a Sunday and with having a brake problem the only place to go... and man I couldn't of been more pleased with that decision!! My GF & I were outta California to get her to school and I was flying back.. and my GF has to drive to school with a car that has no brakes.. Then we found Rick I told him my situation and I have never seen someone so genuinely caring about another person's problem.. even with the 15 cars he had out there for repair he threw ours right on a lift to check it out & find out the problem within minutes!! Unfortunately the part needed was nowhere around until Tuesday morning. I have a flight in less then a hour n a half and my GF is stranded without a car now... horrible BUT then Rick has a friend we can get a rental car from at a discounted rate for her to get to school & on top of that he called his brother to get me to the airport on time and to get my GF her rental car our horrible day ended amazing thanks to Rick!! The kind of business that I thought didn't exist anymore! It's Sunday morning of a holiday weekend, we're only 2 days into our summer-long family road trip, and the 1994 conversion van our mechanic back home said was fine is having issues... and we have to get from Grand Junction to Denver - over three mountain passes, including one that takes healthy vehicles down to 10 mph - by Tuesday morning for a memorial service. Thank goodness we found Atlas! Rick was great!! He quickly diagnosed the problems, helped us resolve the ones that would ensure our safety to Denver, and then gave us the exact information on the more time-consuming fixes we'd need this week. And didn't even charge us for the diagnosis! If I lived here, they'd get all my auto repair work! read more
