Signature Point offers so many amenities including the pool, hot tub, barbecue grills, tennis court, workout gym and beautiful clubhouse! But, what I really want to complement the most is the friendly, helpful and dedicated staff. They are truly the best at what they do. They are always quick to answer my questions or tend to my needs. Although the building is advertised as luxury, the living experience no longer reflected that. The building continued to charge luxury-level rent while the quality of management and the overall resident experience steadily declined. There were repeated disruptions, including multiple water shutoffs, a garage door that remained broken for months, and an elevator that was out of service for an extended period. Maintenance became slow, and the building no longer had a dedicated on-site maintenance team. There were also frequent inspections requiring entry into my apartment. While I understand that inspections are sometimes necessary, the frequency became excessive and unnecessarily intrusive. Communication was consistently frustrating. The office rarely answered the phone, calls were redirected to a ticketing system, and issues often required repeated follow-up. I do want to acknowledge that Melissa in the front office was always kind and pleasant to work with. This review is not about her. Toward the end of my lease, I repeatedly ran into other long-term residents while touring nearby apartment communities. Many shared that they were also leaving because of how much the property had changed under the new ownership. The rent increase wasn't the reason I decided to move. I was willing to continue paying for the apartment I had called home for the past five years. What ultimately made me leave wasn't the cost, but the overall experience. After the change in ownership, it simply no longer felt like home. If you're considering this property, I recommend comparing it carefully with other communities in the area before signing a lease.

Since I moved in six months ago, I've had an issue with my door handle being loose, and I was so nervous I was going to get trapped in my apartment if it fell out of the socket... I was told that they even had an expert come look at the door handle to try to fix it and they could not fix it and my bungalow is a historic property here at Ava in the courtyard. so I had pretty much given up on hope that it would get fixed. Jesse took the door handle mechanism apart today and fixed it perfectly! He also made my keys work better in the door lock because they were sticking. And he got me another spare key and fixed my water filter in the fridge and replaced it. I cannot say enough praise for how amazing this man is at his job. So grateful! I heard it's only his first week working here, but he already deserves a raise! He is an asset to the building for sure. I just love living here and I love how on point everybody is with making sure the residents are taking care of, and that we are listened to. Best place to live ever! Instead of addressing the root of the problem, management will simply offer insecticides that don't solve the issue. The staff seem to be occupied with everything except helping the people who regularly pay to live there. If you're told this is a quiet neighborhood, don't believe it. Every morning at 7:00 a.m., a low-flying plane from the nearby airfield will almost certainly wake you up. The building has poor sound insulation, and noisy neighbors are easy to hear.

I lived in a one bedroom unit and it was spacious enough for me and my partner. Our only reason for not rating 5/5 stars is that the building is fairly old and our unit was in need of a renovation. Due to poor ventilation in the bathroom, there was an issue with mold. The linoleum/vinyl flooring in the kitchen and bathroom was starting to peel. But I imagine the older finishes were a main reason why the rent was so reasonable. All in all, we really loved living here.

It's an older building so it definitely has its quirks, but the units are really cute. Loved all the built ins and character that my unit had. And compared to most other building in the heart of hillcrest the rent was great. The walkability is hard to beat, you are minutes away from tons of restaurants, bars and the hillcrest nightlife. Skye and Justin take great care of the building and are always working to make sure everything is operating as smooth as possible. And great about addressing any concerns you may have. I would definitely recommend the Marquis to someone looking to make hillcrest their new home.

The 'hard sale' wasn't actually hard at all - the place was beautiful & sold itself: the entire building had been completely refurbed and refreshed, penthouse was large (1,500+ sq ft), 2 ginormous bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, high ceilings, hardwood floors, massive private rooftop patio, formal dining room, 2 fireplaces, upgraded fixtures and views to die for. Score, right. Wait...it gets better. The hard sell came replete with 'amenities': 24-hour business center, free building-wide WiFi, card-operated laundry facilities, a workout room, Yoga studio, gated private parking, talk of resident social events and all the charm & bragging rights associated with living in a 'San Diego historic landmark." We signed the day we saw it. $2,700/mo to us was a steal for what we were suppose to be getting in 'lifestyle' and 'location.' Well, don't get swept up in this dream-like diary just yet. The lifestyle sold to us at the Marquis in August 2009 has quickly turned into a nightmare of astronomical proportions. And, as previous posters have attested, the brunt of the fault can be placed on the building management's shoulders: Starpoint Properties. I'll give you a quick synop of the not so great: no rods in the closets to hang clothes, no 'working' fireplace (they're just for show,) no weather stripping in the windows, no shelves in the kitchen cabinets (not one,) broken bathroom window, no working telephone jacks in the unit, no heat source in the living space (trust it gets cold 5 stories up mid winter,) electric wall heaters in the bedrooms - requiring the installation of special high-voltage outlets to operate - causing utility bills to skyrocket, a chronically defunct elevator that provides the only interior access to the basement storage/laundry room/trash/gym, NO free building-wide WiFi, NO card operated laundry facilities, business center that closes at 5PM, a constantly absent manager and mounting frustrations about little fixes that take FOR-EV-ER to complete...and that's just the little stuff I can remember. To be fair, some things have been handled, albeit on the cheap and on the mgmt's own timetable. We can hang clothes now, windows are draftless and we have a telephone jack. But, to give you a sense of what we're dealing with here - before I get to the big Marquis fail - I'll give you a number. Six. Yes, 6. That's how many months it took to get the broken bathroom window replaced. Just sayin'. So, in December 2009, the first of the major winter rainstorms barraged San Diego. Up in la Penthouse de Marquis, mgmt apparently thought we were ducks. The roof leaked water...falls, not drips. The leak completely saturated the entire southern wall of our unit, gushing from the ceiling like Niagra. A river of water traveled throughout the dining room and one bedroom. The walls: shot. Why? Well, not only did the water gush over them, it gushed behind them...through all the nooks, cranies and cracks of their cement and plaster make-up. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know this can't be good. Marquis mgmt attempted a quick-fix solution to the roof leak. But, since the moisture problem in the walls was never adequately addressed, Black Mold set in. When I brought this to their attention, they came to 'assess' the interior situation and concluded that they'd have to tear out the walls, and replace them. Uh, ya. So, after a milieu of fawk-ups, slack workers passing time, tear down dust & debris, bleach treatments, more rain and leaks, carpet dryers, dehumidifiers, Black Mold, mounting tensions over our living situation (for 3 FRACKING MONTHS) and one mgmt company that has quickly become a four letter word out the mouths of tenants - including our neighbors in the other penthouse who are experiencing the exact same problem - we come to today, March 29. The issue: still not fixed! We live in a construction zone of taped-off, plastic draped, torn out walls, and one quasi-completed wall that must now be torn out, again, due to improper leak repair. After three months living like this and countless back and forth emails with mgmt and mgmt's mgmt, we reached our breaking point. We refuse to pay $2,700/mo to live in this mess with seemingly no view to the finish line. Happiness ensued when we reached an agreement on February's rent which they agreed to waive (damn straight.) But now, it's the end of March, and still NOTHING has been done to fix our unit. WTF. To ad insult to injury, we've been served with a three day pay or quit notice for March...with the caveat that they'll concede 10 percent of rent for our "troubles." Um, no. Sorry. Time to go. And, that's exactly what we're doing. Some advice to prospective residents, be weary. They'll try to sell you a Ferrari, but what you're getting is a Fiat, and I don't mean just the building. #fail

Even after moving out on June 25, I was incorrectly charged a full month's rent for July, renters insurance, pet-related fees, and then a late fee was added on top of those incorrect charges. I had to repeatedly call and email to try to get my account corrected. One of the most frustrating aspects was dealing with the Property Manager, **Suzy Reyes**. Phone calls were never returned, concerns were not addressed, and I never felt that management genuinely cared about resolving resident issues. Communication was consistently poor throughout my tenancy. The property itself has numerous problems: * Excessive monthly water charges that seemed unreasonably high. * Residents are charged separately for pest control, yet I experienced a mouse infestation while living there. * The trash area was frequently overflowing and unsanitary. * Hallways and elevators were often dirty and poorly maintained. * The apartment windows were old, worn out, and in need of replacement. I was even charged a $75 late fee despite being enrolled in AutoPay. I had to prove that AutoPay had been set up before the charge was finally removed. Residents should not have to spend their time correcting management's billing mistakes. After I moved out, I was also charged for cleaning, painting, and carpet cleaning, even though I thoroughly cleaned the apartment before turning in my keys. I left the unit in good condition and was surprised by these additional charges. Overall, this property charges premium rent while providing substandard maintenance and customer service. My experience left me feeling that resident concerns were simply not a priority. I cannot recommend living here and would encourage prospective renters to carefully research this property before signing a lease.

I said we would not be doing that and that we were going to discuss this further. We go in and are told that was a mistake and that our unit is available. In our heads we gave them grace because the person was new that told us this but it was extremely stressful for us. With that being said we had come to realize staff changed constantly and no one ever knew what was going on. This made issues like parcel pending lockers being broken into and other concerns difficult to discuss. As the years went on we realized how expensive conservice is, the trash fees are so high when there's always homeless people digging through the dumpsters and making me uneasy every time I would have to take the trash down. In the 3 years living there I would also see homeless people in the pool, and sleeping on the stairs or under the stairs. This brings me to another point the security is non existent, so I wouldn't count on anything they say when it comes to that. Whenever you bring up concerns with the staff, they tend to be unkind or tell you what you want to hear to get you out of the office. Things never change. We stayed for a while because we believed changes would be made but this last year was the worst and we knew we were over it. Upon move out I had accidentally left some kitchen items to an expensive set in a drawer and they failed to notify me because it wasn't of value in their eyes. While this was my mistake, it's the principle to me as we have been great residents for the last 3 years. From start to finish it has been one thing after another. The apartments may look nice but if you can help it, don't choose this property.
