Yep, I gave this place 5 stars 4 years ago, but I'm updating my review due to my most recent…read moreinteractions. We recently needed troubleshooting for our home theater system and my husband made numerous attempts to reach someone at Empire for assistance. Calls were not returned and when he did manage to speak with someone about a service appointment, all he could get was "maybe we can stop by on Friday". Not exactly what we expected given the money we initially spent. Needless to say, no one showed up on Friday. We ended up finding another company that not only returned our calls, they sent a tech out a few days later who quickly resolved our issue. Then he went through our system and pointed out some optimizations that, honestly, should have been made during the installation. When you invest in Control4, any updates/changes have to be made through a dealer, so it's extra annoying when the dealer you purchased through no longer wants your business. We look forward to working with our NEW dealer to install additional home automation and home theater components.

Not sure about the "No job too small" claim…read more We had a great initial experience with them when they upgraded our Wi-Fi gear and ran Cat6 Ethernet wiring through our house. Nice work, professional, great customer service. Then... not so much. I called them a couple of years later, following post-storm home renovations (thanks, Gulf Coast weather), to get Wi-Fi working again and re-run Ethernet cables. Over the next couple of weeks, when I'd call to follow up, Kimberley would tell me that "the GM is working on the proposal," but never got return calls. Ghosted. Finally hired an independent IT guy to make the fixes, as well as for some followup reconfigurations on the Wi-Fi gear.

Great experience with Virtual Field Tech - Mr. Carlos Sotto-Alicia. This 5-star rating is based…read moreupon the service of Mr. Sotto-Alicia and not representative of how happy or not-so-happy I am with Vivint as a home security provider. In 2018, I signed up for Vivint Security Alarm from my previous reputable name company security provider that mostly provides wired security devices and sensors. The original Vivint installer back in 2018 did a very sloppy job and decided to bundle 9 window sensors consisting of an office, dining room, living room, breakfast nook, and utility-laundry room into one zone. The Vivint installer also bundled 4 doors as a single zone consisting of the main door, 2 garage doors that open into different house areas, and a backyard door. He also cut a few wired connection that caused us to lose our pre-wired video camera with intercom. At least the lazy installer managed to get a few zones right such as the master's bedroom, 2nd-floor window, and the other auxiliary sensors (glass break, motion detector, heat/smoke detector, and carbon monoxide detectors). Long story short, because of the original installer's ineptitude, every time we receive an alarm, we can't pinpoint the possible intrusion or false alarm failure point. We have had an increasing number of false alarms recently even if all doors and windows are secured it will just randomly sound an alarm sometimes at 2 am or late at night while we are sleeping. Because of the faulty zoning, we were unable to pinpoint which sensor is bad. You can in principle replace all sensors to fix the issue but a very expensive proposition plus not fixing the issue of finding out a possible security threat area. I called Vivint many times and tried to schedule a visit since 2018 and all the time they just give me a runaround or will charge a hefty tech visit to fix an issue that they caused. It was not until Sept 1, 2024, after more calls to Vivint (the first Call center Rep was useless) to seek assistance to resolve the issue was I finally directed by a second Rep to Mr. Sotto-Alicia who provided a great step-by-step video tutorial to correct the improper installation of the original Vivint installer. Mr. Sotto-Alicia was very patient in showing me how to isolate specific wired sensors and walked me through in isolating them and assigning them their correct zones. All said and done, he was able to assist in separating the living room windows, utility-laundry room window, office windows, living room windows, front door and back door. Now my home alarm are properly zoned with 8 zones plus the other wireless sensors. Mr. Carlos Sotto-Alicia with his patience fixed what many of his peers and colleagues failed to do in 6 years! I am glad I came across Mr. Sotto-Alicia who finally provided a reasonable resolution to an issue my family had to go through for the past 6 years. This man needs a raise and will do Vivint a favor by training the other techs and support team who seem to have a "no-can't do" culture.

Our experience with SES has been nothing short of terrible. They designed our entire home system…read morefor the modest sum of ~$90K. We used them because of a recommendation from our realtor. The system was supposed to be designed, built, and tested in their shop. It was supposed to be installed before we moved in. Because of delays on their part, they ended up assembling the system at our home, without the pre-testing and trouble shooting we'd been promised. We've had numerous issues that take the system down, or render our control devices useless. On top of that, the sound quality when playing music from an iPad, or iPhone is awful, with static and frequent loss of signal. In spite of courteous and helpful technicians, we're told the problem can't be fixed, or improved. On top of all that, now, every time there is a problem with the system (which occurs every 4-6 weeks), we have to schedule a service visit that range in price from $400 - $700. The service costs are ridiculously expensive. Remote support, which we were promised when we purchased the system, now costs $125 and has to be scheduled. This makes living with an debugging their mistakes very costly. On top of that, when we had a problem with our alarm system that caused the internal alarms to not shutdown, the technician that came and spent 5 minutes disconnecting the alarm system, also shutdown our Savant network, which I had to reconnect after he left. For that we were charged several hundred dollars for his visit. After that, we cancelled our security service. Not a company I would recommend. I would give a lower rating than 1 star, but the system won't allow that.
