No Show/No Call. After waiting nearly a month to have our tall shrubs pruned, and taking the day off to supervise the work, Atlas no showed for our appointment. There was initially some confusion on the crews arrival time, as the message they said they left on our cell phone the day before our appointment was never received. Setting that issue aside, we tried several times to get better information on the arrival time of the crew, other than "between 10 AM and noon", but our calls were never returned. Finally, at 12:15 PM, after calling their office for the fourth time, we were told that the crew had some equipment problem, and wouldn't be able to do the job at all. We only learned of this because we called them, and only after they missed their scheduled arrival time! The clincher is when we complained to "Pam" about the poor service, she hung up on us. This is the first and last time we try using this company. read more

However, I took away two stars because their communication about scheduling and rescheduling was poor. I am impressed with Atlas Tree because the estimators are always right on target and you don't get zapped with some hidden charges. They know the tree laws in the cities they work. The crew shows up on time and although the majority of the workers are Hispanic, there is always an English speaker in charge. They do exactly what was estimated and even if there is a small thing or two extra they do it willingly. I've used them for three years and I recommend them to my neighbors. read more

Oh boy, we had a huge Modesto ash tree fall from our front yard onto our house last week. We were in shock; nobody was hurt and the dogs were ok. Atlas tree service arrived within hours and spoke to us in detail how thy can help. Early the next day the team showed up, carefully and promptly cut up the tree and trimmed the damaged tree that was next to it. They cleaned the area until it was spotless. I recently contacted Atlas Tree Service about pruning a large tree on my property. Their price was quite reasonable and I was very pleased with the quality of their work. The men who did the work were very efficient, careful, and professional, and I also want to compliment the dispatcher, Deborah, for scheduling the work on my day off with very little advance notice on my part to Atlas- they fit me in their workplan for the day and completed the job quickly. This group did a fantastic job trimming, shaping and thinning a plum tree that was planted 19 years ago--long before we moved in just 4 years ago. The tree had never been touched according to our neighbor. It The crew was very professional and cleaned up every twig and leaf from the yard. The tree now has its normal shape, rather than looking like a trunk with sawed off fingers like so many do around us. I am extremely pleased!! read more

I first contacted Atlas on 1/9/15. I asked for an estimate/second opinion to have a fruitless multerry tree removed (after being informed the tree may diseased) along with trimming of the second fruitless mulberry and a wisteria. I was contacted by a phone call in which I was told the estimater believed the tree did not need to be removed. I told him I would then like to move ahead with having the 2 trees and wisteria trimmed. He told me he would work out an estimate and get back to me. I told him "I guessed the cost would be about the same as it was last year and if that was the case, he didn't have to call me back - instead only call if there is a big difference". I never heard anything back and confirmed with my tenants that the work had been done. I next got an invoice for $665. Last year, I paid $500 for the same work. This is a 25% increase and definitely not what I would call "about the same as last year". Therefore, I believe I should have received an estimate. This is the second problem I have had with Atlas in the same number of years. Last year, I wanted to have 2 trees removed with the stumps ground out. I had already removed the branches as well as most of the stump myself. The men who came to my house were idiots (and I am being nice). They told me they couldn't grind the stump out without destroying the plants in my yard because of lack of space. I told them to leave and I would take care of it myself then as I have my own chain saw and stump poison and have removed multiple trees on my own in the past and these would be no problem as they were only small dwarfs. He convinced me to let him cut the trunk while he was there. First, because he was relentless trying to convince me to allow him to do the work and second, I felt obligated since he made me feel like he may be working on commission because of all the pressure. WRONG CHOICE! What he ended up doing (and the reason I call him an idiot) is he cut the two tree trunks level to the ground - leaving me no way to use the trunk to remove the stumps in the future - I will now have to let it rot for years before I can ever get the stumps out and be able to replant. I believe what Atlas did last year as well as this year is at the very least highly unethical as well as bordering on illegal. read more

My family has used Atlas or Lloyds Tree Services (connected via ownership) for many years -- 15 or more. The comments of reviewer Janet are true: fair (competitive) estimates, and quality work as scheduled. Other attributes include well-functioning equipment, safe operation, and thorough clean-up. Bill and Pat, as well as operator Dave, all know their stuff. They were particularly helpful recently with trees on an adjacent property. The workers are cheerful, delighting in pleasing the customer. I was especially impressed that owner Bill dropped by to check on things, while work was in progress. read more

Atlas Tree Service did a great job removing a large tree that had grown into the fence line ruining the fence. Their crew was professional and courteous. They arrived on time and did exactly the work we had discussed. They did a great job not only cutting the tree but removing the debris and cleaning the yard. Atlas Tree Service just saved our home and our neighbor's home from further damage after a GIGANTIC pepper tree had 3 HUGE rotted limbs collapse last night. To give you an idea of the dimensions, the base of the pepper tree is about 9-10 feet in diameter and the failed limbs each 3 feet across. The first one fell all the way to the ground and took the neighbor's power line with it. This occurred at 9 PM on a Saturday night. PG&E came out and said there was nothing they could do until the risk of the remaining 2(hanging high above the home like like the sword of Damocles) could be secured and the debris could be cleared away. I ran an extension cord over to them for the night...and we all held our breath as 2 more limbs slowly collapsed a little at a time snapping and groaning during the wee hours until they finally came to rest on the roof of our home at 3AM. We had called another tree service that supposedly has 24/7 emergency service...they never even called back. By 8 AM Sunday morning, we decided we had better call another service. Atlas called us back immediately, and said they would be out within the hour to assess the situation. Steven Duncan arrived promptly as promised, He's a Certified Arborist who is qualified for Tree Risk Assessment. We gave the go-ahead, and Steven got to work right away rounding up a crew and vehicles. By 10 AM Sunday morning they were at work clearing the threats and debris. I can't say enough good things about the competent way the whole crew worked together to prevent the collapsed limbs from doing any damage. These limbs were 30-36" in diameter and both were resting on the roof of our home. The Atlas workers carefully and expertly used their crane to support them as they cut them up and safely deposited the pieces in their truck for disposal. If all this wasn't enough, the tree was home to some very large bee colonies. It was the bees which prevented and delayed the trimming previously. The fearless Atlas worker who performed the aerial portion of the work completed his tasks with bees buzzing all around him for 3 hours. Cudos to this man for placing himself in extreme peril to save our homes!! When the last of the limbs were removed, we could really get a good look at how little damage was ultimately done to both homes, It leaves me shaking my head in amazement. I give my strongest and highest review possible to Steven and his crew! I wish I could give them 10 stars...they deserve it! read more
