Not a good experience! Shame on me for not taking the estimate ULTRA LITERALLY. They were to trim a branch that was hanging over a fence into a neighbors yard. Instead of trimming the branch back to the trunk, they HACKED it at the fence line and left a 4 FT BARE STUMP STICKING OFF OF THE TREE (see attached pic)! Additionally, they didn't clean up the mess they made..several branches and a lot of debris left on the ground (they didn't even come into my yard). Later, when I texted Kim about the mess that was left, she said that "...any mess you're referring to was probably already there." Really poor customer service! After a job he did on the property on Danville Blvd I called him about following up on his incomplete work and he literally started yelling at me and was unwilling to finish the job. We have used them in the past and we were happy so I even recommended them to several other people, with mixed results. We needed our same trees cleaned up, so I called again. After I received a bid I requested to go ahead and schedule the work. After nearly two weeks with me contacting a couple of times I called to say if they are really busy and can't schedule it soon please let me know. They responded they now "don't want to take on our project." I'm so disappointed. I contacted Kim from Waraner Tree Exoerts to get an estimate for trimming my willow tree, and some minor (minor) trimming on 2 other mid-size trees. I'm disappointed because I'm a returning customer from a few years ago where they trimmed the same trees for me however this estimate was so expensive I couldn't believe it. A job that was approximately $1400 before was now quoted at $5400. I asked Kim why was the costs so much higher and she said insurance. It's (costs) have increased. I'm sorry, I don't believe that explanation was the only reason. I sincerely believe they're just charging much more t like so many other types of businesses. Thank goodness that I found another company who did the trimming for me and it only took approximately 4 hours, and the costs was much less, I paid $1800. We were quoted a fair price for the removal of two trees in our front yard. I was a little unhappy with the initial wait time for service. (I was worried that one tree was going to lose a big branch during the fall winds.) But a cancellation meant the Waraner Tree Experts were able to come sooner. I was amazed at how quickly the trees were removed. Clean up was excellent. At first I thought it was odd that the wood chipper was painted a bright pink. Then I saw on their website it was done in support of breast cancer awareness. As a business they also support the Young Survivor Coalition which is a excellent resource for young women fighting breast cancer. Way to go Waraners! My dad has a tree in front of his house that was growing out of control. It was huge and in need of serious work. I posted on Nextdoor for some advice on who to use and several people said Waraner. They came out immediately and gave a very reasonable estimate so I decided to go with them. I am so glad I did. They did a fabulous job. They showed up on time, worked their butts off and even cut down additional limbs at no extra charge. They cleaned up and you couldn't even tell they were there except the tree looks fabulous. Ah, the joys of home ownership... The tree in our front yard was starting to hit our roof, hang low over the street and was getting all up in the power lines. We got quotes from two different companies but opted to go with Waraner because they were so responsive, punctual and their quote was half the price of another company. Yes, half! They gave us two quotes, one that was a more short term fix and one that was more long term. We opted for the long term option. It was obvious that the work done on the tree prior to us buying the house was done by people who had no idea what they were doing. The crew from Waraner worked their magic and we now have a well groomed tree that looks so much better than before. For the most part, they cleaned up everything and left our yard nice and neat although we did have a few cut branches fall into our yard for a week or two after the work was done. Highly Recommend !!! We had a gorgeous tree that was causing way too many issues. We were referred to Waraner Tree Experts and after looking at reviews decided to go with them. They were very easy to work with. We got a quote and they came out the next week. They took down a 65 ft. + tree in one day. The whole crew was amazing and they even clean up after. They had to come back and grind the roots with bigger machinery. Once again, smooth process. This time it was a two man crew, Arcadio and Israel. These guys have amazing work ethic. They made sure to get all the roots and even hacked at a few stubborn ones. It was a hot day and they had been working all day, yet they made sure they did the job right and cleaned up again! Always seek a second opinion. I was pleased with Dustin's work in 2014, so when I needed the same three trees trimmed again, I didn't take the time to obtain a second opinion. This was a mistake for several reasons. First, make sure you live near Clayton. I paid $2,800 to trim three trees that took four men no more than five hours to complete the work. Kim explained that I was charged for 9.5 hours, at $85 per hour for each crew member, including travel time from their Clayton location. (Kim noted that if they had charged their full rate, it would have been $3,230). Second, be prepared to accept the defense that trees are unpredictable, living organisms. One of the two mulberry trees was not thriving and I asked Dustin whether it should be removed rather than trimmed. He responded: "life possibly 10 years, for sure 3-5 years left". I relied on his opinion and paid $1,200 to trim two mulberry trees. Following the trim, Dustin's foreman told me that the tree wouldn't survive. Third, if the price seems high, it probably is. The non-thriving tree didn't improve after five months, so I asked Dustin to take a look. When I asked him for a quote to remove the tree, I was told $1,350. I finally took my own advice and obtained a second opinion from another certified arborist. The quote was $750 to remove the tree. Always seek a second opinion. read more

I would never use this company. They did a large job next door to me and while they cleaned up most of their branches that fell onto my property, they wanted nothing to do with the mountain of red and white saw dust that they placed all over my black bark in my azalea garden. Kim was polite at first, promising me to rectify the situation but then eventually she said it was not her responsibility for any damage and there was no budget in the job to re-mulch my property. Really, two yards of mulch, you have got to be kidding. Funny but she sells black bark for a high premium price because it looks better on people's yards vs. the white or red bark that they also sell. I'm not a customer, just an "innocent bystander". They were apparently hired as a subcontractor to trim a tree in front of a neighbor's house in Oakland. (They wouldn't tell me who the contractor was.) Their truck showed up bright and early (8:15 AM) on a Monday morning and double parked on our narrow residential street. My car was parked on the street in front of the neighbor's house, under the tree [a big magnolia that spread over the sidewalk and street]. They'd put up no prior notice of their work, or of the need for people to not park under the tree. Five minutes later, my neighbor shows up and asks me to move my car. At that point, there were no longer any parking spaces available on the street (it's just off College Ave., and "parked up" from 8 AM until 9 PM), so I had to come out in my slippers, move my care, and park a block and a half away. Perhaps needless to say, I was annoyed. I called and left a message for the company. About an hour later, I got a call back from the owner, saying there had been a "miscommunication" between them and the contractor. Said it was "just a mistake." They admitted that if I hadn't been available to move my car, they would have had to drive their truck back to Walnut Creek and come again another day. To my mind, this kind of "oops" is not something i'd like to see in a company I hired, and I sure won't call on them to work on trees on my family's property. read more

Prior to choosing this group, I read quite a bit on the care of persimmon tree. I wanted it to last as long as I live since it was planted by my father who is now gone. In essence, the tree reminded me of our happy days together eating the fruits. I couldn't emphasize well enough how important it is for me that the job is done to perfection. And indeed the crew composed of George, Genaro and Pancho did just that. After the work was done, I could see the dead and branches close to each other were taken out so that the sun's rays will be filtering through the whole tree. Expensive and dishonest. I had two silver leaf maples they came out and destroyed instead of topped. When the trees died and they came back out they quoted me double the price to remove them instead of offering to correct their mistake. I should have filed a claim against their license but instead chose a better tree service to remove the two trees they killed. "Arborist." Yeah right. Update: Funny, the owner's response says "it's wrong to top trees", however the alleged *Arborist* from Waraner is the one that recommended we do this, performed the work, and killed our trees. read more

Let me preface my review by saying that a 5 star would mean that I'm ecstatic and a 4 star review means that my expectations were met. I had 2 oak trees that needed to be cut down, a Willow that was unhealthy and had to go, another 4 oaks that needed to be "dead-wooded", pruned and cut back, a fruit tree to be cut down and stump ground, and 1 un-known tree that needed to be safety pruned. In my opinion it was probably too much work for one day. The work was scheduled for the Saturday of a holiday weekend, which seemed kind of odd anyway, but I was ok with it. Leading into the work I found out that my neighbor was having a funeral at his house on the same day. Ugh!!! I talked to Dustin and was assured that the work wouldn't be intrusive to their plans. Living on a small private street I knew that we should have re-scheduled, but didn't (I should have pushed a bit harder to cancel). It turned out to be a bad call because their crew ended up sitting for about 2 hours in the middle of the day during the funeral service. By the end of the day it was a bit of a zoo. They were rushing to finish after the delay, they couldn't turn their trailer on my street. I actually caught them using my trailer dolly (intended for my small camper) to try to turn a tandem axle trailer that probably weighed 5k plus lbs. In the end, most of the work was exceptional, but my opinion is that the oak trees weren't quite "finished". They were pruned back toward the fence line as requested, but they don't look like they were pruned properly. My neighbor used a different company for his oaks and they look great. I probably could have called Dustin and had him come back out, but part of exceptional service is that you don't need to do such a thing. My opinion is that you can use these folks with confidence and I will likely have them come out again under more normal circumstances. I thought their price was very fair. read more

Wow, this is a Great company. I was impressed in the beginning when a neighbor was having their trees trimmed. A fine job indeed. I had a 40 ft Silver Oak that had to come down because of disease. I talked to Kim at Waraner and she was so polite. Told me that Dustin could come out and check out the project. Dustin was helpful with information and Kim sent me the bid. They were on the job the next week. Pancho, the lead on the removal team was on time and in the right place. Everything went smooth as glass and the whole tree was gone in about 4 hours. We have a nasty 50 ft siberian elm tree that towers over our small property and was hitting our roof. We knew we needed a major trimming this fall before the rains started, but found ourselves in a tedious search for a tree trimming company. After a number of no-show estimates and a handful of high estimates from less than professional companies - we found Waraner Tree Experts through Yelp. Kurt arrived at our house, at the time promised, and was highly professional from the start. He explained everything we needed to know, gave us a more than fair estimate. We knew he was the right person for the job and scheduled our appointment. When we had expressed our interest in an earlier appointment, they immediately accommodated our request. The team trimming our trees was fantastic. We have a small, fenced yard with a hot tub and a very large deck. there is not a lot of room to navigate without potentially hitting something. What a class team Waraner has in place. I called and spoke with Kim to describe some tree trimming and removal. She set up a date for Dustin to come out and assess what needs to be done. I selected Waraner due to their excellent Yelp reviews but also because they are certified ISA standard experts. I wanted to be sure to speak to someone who knew about my type of birch trees and advise on what needs to be done to get them healthy. Dustin was very much aware of the type of birch and advised me on what to do. After his assessment visit, I received a prompt quote via email for the work. Their price was very reasonable as I had received quotes from two other tree businesses. I called Kim back to schedule. Their team arrived as agreed upon and did an excellent job in trimming my birch trees, and removing some dead trees from the yard. They cleaned up the entire yard of the cut branches and trees. Very thorough job on clean up which is very nice to have. I was very pleased with the results, and the trees look very good now. I just hired Dustin Waraner for the third year in a row to do my tree trimming (we have a great big yard, it has taken us a while to get up to scratch). What can I say? Dustin and Kim are sweet as can be, and their crew does great work. I've recommended them with great success to my in-laws and friends and have not had a single complaint. Dustin itemizes his estimates, which I believe is a huge plus, so that you have the option of declining any service he's given you a price on. Day of service the crew comes out, trims your trees like lightening quick, cleans up and your yard looks fabulous. I really love these guys, their dedication to good customer service and integrity to the work shows in every job I've hired them for. Used them for the second time, you do the math. Bottom line: these people 1) Know what they are doing 2) Have pride in their work 3) Are pleasant to be with. My opinion after 68 trips around the sun is that most tree service companies fail on the first two counts. Sure, you may save a few bucks in the short run, but parts of the job will likely be botched, and you will miss out on that feeling of happiness when the Waraner crew departs from your beautifully pruned and clean yard. read more

I called 3 different tree services to get estimates and decided to use Waraner. They were very courteous and knowledgable during the estimate and I just liked their demeanor. They trimmed a large Ash tree in my back yard and removed all of the mistletoe. They did a great and thorough job. I didn't want to pay a company to hack their way through my tree. So, it was important to me to get a company that knew what they were doing. They cleaned up all of the cut branches and protected all of my smaller Japanese Maple trees from the falling branches of the Ash. Being a new homeowner, we turned to yelp to find a good tree trimming company to trim our 4 Red Iron Eucalyptus trees in our front yard and boy are we happy WE DID! I emailed Waraner Tree Experts and within 30 mins I had a response from Kim Waraner, She was extremely pleasant and professional. She said she would send someone out to inspect our trees and give us an estimate on how much it would be to keep an eye out tomorrow for and email. Without doubt I received the estimate the following day! The estimate was clear with line items of everything they suggested. We were a little skeptical because they suggested removing all 4 trees, so we shopped around with other companies. They all came to the same conclusion; the trees had to be removed! So we decided to move forward with Waraner Tree Experts. WOW they are what they claim, Experts! They had the best quote and we the most professional company we spoke too. Once we booked our date and time it was set! the following day I received an email from Kim asking me if we wanted to bump up our appointment since they has a cancelation, so we said of corse! That Saturday we had a party in the PM so we didn't have time to spare. Kim said they would arrive at 8AM and sure enough 7:50AM they pulled up! Punctual!! The tree removal shouldn't take more then 5 hours they were done by 12:30! Wahooo! They workers were very respectful of the surrounding areas! We just had a large, dead pepper tree removed from our yard and the Waraner crew kicked butt. I'll admit that I sometimes think that any business that gets a full 5 star review on Yelp may be playing games with the system, but when we asked for a quote and Waraner was the best quote of all the tree services, we took a chance. The five stars are deserved. While there was a slight problem with the originally scheduled date, Waraner was prompt to inform us and quickly rescheduled. The crew arrived on time this morning and were ready for the job. They used a crane to remove the major limbs, which prevented damage to surrounding trees/landscaping, and even ground the stump. I had a bit of a particular request, as next to the dead pepper tree was an olive tree with extreme sentimental value. A few years ago our neighbor had a different tree service trim the pepper tree overhang across their property and that tree company broke a number of branches on the olive (it was Tree Wise, a company that deserves zero stars). So I was worried that taking down the entire tree was sure to affect the olive. Well, at the end of the day, the olive was unscathed. I needed a dead tree to be cut down at my home in Walnut Creek. It was very quick (just took a week), painless, and reasonably priced. Kim did the bid quickly by looking at a street satellite photo of the tree. Manny and Hurtado (The 2 tree cutters) came over on time, they cut down the tree, and avoided the sculpted scrubs and flowers below the tree. They used rope pulleys to lower the branches to the street below. They also used a stump grinder to cut the stump down 12" below the ground level. They were very talented. They also cleaned up the area nicely. I'll make sure to use Waraner Tree Experts again. Great job. Thanks much. read more
