I enjoy studying here. Sitting area is very comfortable and spacious. Can be loud at times but that's ok for me. I'm not an espresso fan much but I have heard their cappuccinos are great. I had a little snack there which was the chocolate & vanilla pudding with Oreos with is so thick and creamy and I also like their seasonal cheddar broccoli soup. The service here is awesome! Employees are always doing their job and cleaning up after customers. They ask if you need any further assistance and they're all so bright at this little coffee shop. Great atmosphere. Great people. I have never been here before, and all I can do is compare it to Starbucks. Now Starbucks, that's my weakness. I wouldn't know what to do without Starbucks, but after visiting this place, I'm not sure. A plus right off the bat to Atomic Coffee is it is cheaper then Starbucks. Now it could be cheaper because the cup size, compared to Starbucks, is smaller, but who cares. This coffee place isn't $5 a cup like Starbucks, its $4. The seating at this place is really open as well. You can bring a big group of people or sit by yourself. It's all good here. read more

Second time visiting this coffee shop! I originally came during Christmas when they had a tree and lights decorating the place (of course I fell in love). The atmosphere is nice. Definitely a bit of a hipster vibe. The noise level is a little louder than your average coffee shop, so prepare for that. They also have the windows and doors open so outside driving and loud cars contribute to this. My headphones cancelled most of the excessive noise out. I had the house blend coffee, which wasn't bad. It was pretty smooth actually. My only negative would be the smart remark that the barista gave me when I asked for the wifi code, as if I was supposed to know it. There were no visible signs to alert me. Overall, I love the vibe of this place. I know they have cheaper and quieter places but the fact that it's in the heart of Royal Oak makes it so charming. read more

Way too expensive and they have a food menu but close it at 3?! I was stuck in royal oak for an hour or so to kill time and the coffee house I usually go to was closed for repair. I go to atomic and try to order a sandwich but the kitchen is closed. I ordered a lavender latte, which i didn't hear anyone say it was ready; it was pretty good though. Then since I needed to eat something, I ordered a savory croissant. $10 for both; while good, definitely overpriced. I was asked if I wanted it toasted and it was barely heated through. The If you're going to have a high price point for your products then at least have better customer service or a kitchen open longer. The sandwich prices seemed fair but I couldn't try one. read more

My cappuccino with cardamon-rose syrup was smooth, roasty, Italian perfection. Prices are a little steep but quality is worth it. The fire place is an AWESOME touch. This building is actually pretty huge for a coffee shop but the way it's set up with couches and dim lights makes it feel really intimate. The environment seemed quite welcoming toward everyone- in my 15 minutes here I saw students studying, people on dates, construction workers and a group of friends having a debate. This seems like the perfect place to wind down (or up, since it's a coffee shop? Lol) on a cold autumn or winter night. Oh and the banana pudding cup was delicious. Next time I'm in Royal oak I'm definitely stopping by. read more

Atomic coffee has a nice open atmosphere perfectly for studying/working, or meeting up with friends. They have a few couches, plenty of seating in a continuous booth that goes around the perimeter of the cafe and there is also an area down a few stairs as well and tables and chairs throughout. The atmosphere is very dim lit and plays music ranging from Latin salsa, to 90s to Indie. Their menu offers traditional espresso cappuccinos, lattes, and macchiatos, flavored lattes, nitro cold brews, hot and ice teas, smoothies, raw juices, breakfast sandwiches, omelettes, soups, salads, sandwiches and wraps. They also have croissants and cookies. Hopefully the ones in the glass case are not the ones being served because I saw a fly crawling on the croissants and I was like, "Welp, won't be ordering one of those." Aside from that, the coffee is decent but not the best I've ever had. I've had the Mexican Mocha, Honey Vanilla Latte, and a specialty drink called Lucky Charms. All were ok but kind of underwhelming in terms of flavor. For example the Mexican Mocha could definitely have used stronger cinnamon and mocha flavors. Recently I had the Pumpkin pie spice latte and it was actually pretty decent, probably the best latte that I have had here. However, it is still lacking sweet pumpkin flavor and had more of the pumpkin pie spices. The presentation is always very pretty with latte leaf art. Overall, I really like the chill relaxed quiet open atmosphere and the coffee is adequate but nothing really special and could definitely be more flavorful. Good hours though. They are open until 11 pm throughout the week. read more

Now that they have been open a few months, they really are getting their act together. They now have decaf! And here is what I did not know: they make fresh food, to order, in that tiny kitchen. Great breakfast place (made from scratch) and lunch is fantastic. Soups all homemade and delicious. Big salads. And cheap! Who knew this coffee shop with a great ambiance, is almost a full serve restaurant! I like the owners were very responsive to my prior post about lacking decaf. Shows they know how to run a business. read more

First, my feelings. Not quite a 4, but a 3 seemed low so I'm going higher! Ok so first off, I love the vibe and decor inside. It's really cute and very open. It's not crowded like the competitor down the street. It's just really cool. The crowd is also really cool. Not quite hipster. Kind of nerdy, but popular nerds. If that makes sense? The guy at the front was nice and offered a sample of the nitro cold brew. Not bad so got a drink with it. Of course, I can't remember their name for it, but it was so not good. I was disappointed for the $5 I paid. It was the nitro cold brew with Ghiradelli cocoa and cinnamon. It was so bitter! I was surprised at how undelightful I found it. Once I got home, I added some sugar and almond milk. That helped quite a bit. There was really a lot in the menu. It needs to be studied. I will return, regardless of the I'm-enjoyable. Drink I had because there may be others I will like. So yeah, you should check it out too. read more

Use to really like this place. But last time I went there, everything was just bad! First off when I paid, I had $3 change coming back and instead of handing it to me....the employee threw it in the tip jar, and walked away! Then I get my drink "Honey Vanilla Latte" and clearly the barista (who was very distracted talking to other people) forgot to put the espresso in. The drink tasted like warm milk. I pointed this out, and instead of remaking it. She stood there arguing with me. She did not remake it. Then to too top it off, their To Go Cups are way smaller then their in house mugs. 16oz! For $5.50 they should be atleast 20 oz.!! So all together with the $3 change they stole from me and the price $5.50, I paid $8.50 for a 16oz cup of warm milk. Stopped into Atomic Coffee last time we were walking around downtown Royal Oak. I'm one that likes to try new coffee places when I see them. I'm a self admitted coffee addict. I decided to try one of their Nitro Cold Brew beverages called the Polar Bear. It's nitro cold brew with white chocolate peppermint syrup and sweet cream. It was honestly nothing outstanding nor was it bad. The prices were a tad bit higher for the size which comes to be expected in the neighborhood. I might try it again and see what else they have to offer. The Lavender Latte is a favorite of mine from some other places so I would like to know how theirs stacks up. Otherwise I'm in the middle on this place. I wouldn't go out of my way, but if I'm in the neighborhood again I'd give a different drink a try. read more

Love love love this cafe! I'm always stoping by for a nice cup of coffee -basically every time when in Downtown Royal Oak! =D I usually stick with the Lattes, and I totally recommend it! I've tried all of them with exception of the lavender one ( I love lavender but not sure about drinking it! lol ) The honey vanilla and rose cardamom are my two favorites! The smoothies and the pastries are also super good! The only thing to be aware is the sitting situation...this place is usually packed!! Love that they're open later than many other similar places. Initially had issues with WiFi, but they were quickly resolved and I was up and running. Not a quiet place, so bring your headphones if you're easily distracted. VERY disappointed that the kitchen was closed. Not sure why they don't like money. This is a cool spot to meet up with friends and study. The atmosphere is hip, everything is clean and beautifully decorated. I am giving four stars because all of the syrups have sugar, there is no sugar free option, but I really wanted to try the lavender latte so I had no choice. There are no sugar free options in terms of their flavored coffee, and if you want no sweetener at all you can get plain drinks but not flavored. I would make it my regular joint if they offered this option, but in the meantime I recommend it for an occasional hang out. read more

Atomic has a beautiful atmosphere. They have five different sections of seating, all with their own functions. They have couches, benches, tables with chairs, benches near a fireplace and a sunk in seating area. I've had multiple cappuccinos and cortados here. Every time they are pretty good. It seems they are still refining and learning, but are on course to be amazing. Tyler is one of their baristas, and is always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. There has been a few different employees I asked, "What countries is this coffee from?", And they seemed to be confused by that question-even a little annoyed I asked that. Quite disappointing for me, considering coffee is their product... Nonetheless- Tyler the barista saves them all the time, because he knows the answers. I've tried the food too- the egg and cheese sandwich. Nothing amazing, but I'd be really amazed if someone could actually make that kind of sandwich taste good. I had their Sumatra on pourover, tried a bit of my friend's Nitro Cold brew, and grabbed some of their house blend to go. It was great! They only had one choice for pourover coffee but it was excellent so no complaints there. The Nitro Cold brew was new to me so I can't compare it to other places but it was like making cold brew very creamy and smooth like adding milk but without compromising the flavor of the coffee (or adding dairy). Even the machine brewed house blend was pretty solid for not being a hand pour and I'm pretty picky about that kinda crap. All in all, good café. Nice place to sit and do work or visit with friends. Good interior. Nice people. Only downside is Street/metered parking on weekdays but that isn't their fault. read more

I had seen pictures of this place but went in without any expectation. Really pleasantly surprised. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly... they didn't take themselves too seriously unlike Commonwealth. I actually went up more than once and had a few different things, a day long caffeine headache worth every sip of. The cold brew on nitro tap is where it's at. It's like Guinness but coffee, insanely good. Not an every day stop but I'll certainly be back when I'm in the mood for another. read more

Great service and atmosphere! The baristas here are also wonderful and want to make sure you are completely satisfied with your drink. My first time here I ordered the Cardamom Rose latte. This appears to be the most recommended and popular drink at Atomic. When I sat down and started drinking it, I noticed it was a little warm. A group of people next to me had just ordered the same exact drink and brought up to me that their lattes were a little too warm as well. I was fine with it, but do prefer my drinks on the hotter side. I was hesitant to bring my drink up to be remade, but the table next to me insisted I bring my drink up with them. The baristas were very kind and understanding about this and brought us out a new batch of lattes. They politely told us to specify 'extra hot' when ordering drinks. Regardless, this place does get busy so it may take some time to find a table. Once you do get a table though, you won't want to leave. Atomic Coffee is very trendy and VERY popular. There has always been a line 5+ people deep when we've gone, and then orders take a while, so brace yourself for a wait. They have cute modern decor and a nice selection of food and drinks, but the service has never been warm, and, between the chatter and uptempo music, it's SO loud there! It's also been hard to find seating when we've gone with a group. Overall, I like Atomic Coffee, but between the bustle and noise, this is not a relaxing coffee house experience. read more
