Fifteen days later, I wanted to update my review. I understand the owner is busy and may not remember every customer interaction. I made a temporary repair so I could continue using my bike for transportation and exercise. Today I called and the owner was helpful, asking me to bring the bike in. We brought two brand new Aventon Aventure.2 E-bikes in for a brake upgrade. Emailed Duke first to discuss options and to receive an estimate. He responded in a timely manner and was extremely knowledgeable and informative. Once we determined what was needed and that the parts were in stock, we brought the bikes in for Duke to perform the work. He was fast and efficient and completed the work within the time specified. The cost even came in below the estimate. Christy handled our payment and was friendly and engaging. We couldn't be more pleased with our experience. Will definitely return in the future. read more

Let me start off by saying this place is just terrible! So, my girlfriend got me a Bianchi bike online which took weeks to ship home and when it came home it was the wrong bike! I did not want to wait to ship it back out for a refund so decided to look for bike shops that buy bikes. I found this place online and saw their website which said "We offer fair prices and can buy right on the spot". I called them and told them I am from San Jose and asked if it was possible to get a quote or some estimate. I would have given them the model number and described it which would have been simple as it was still brand new in the box, unassembled. The owner was being completely rude about it and told me to just come in. I drove almost 3 hours to Auburn in traffic. I finally got there and was not even greeted. He took a look at the bike and did nothing a simple phone call could not have handled. He just simply searched up the model number to see the retail price. Are you fucking serious? I told him over the phone that I would have provided him with the model number. I also told him via phone that I did not want to be lowballed since I came all the way from San Jose. Mind you, I had the receipt of this transaction, names matching in case if questioned about stolen property (Stolen bikes are way too common) He looked up the bike and saw that the bike is $799+ tax. My girlfriend paid around $850 for the bike. Once he is done with his "thorough" research, which consisted of just looking up the model number he offered me $480. You have to be fucking kidding me. They knew I drove 3 hours and this whole scenario could have been prevented if they just had asked for the model number over the phone!! This is what is so infuriating about this "visit". And come on, $480 is so insulting. Thanks for wasting my time and gas. read more

ATown Bikes - and Duke in particular - was great to do business with! I found one of their used bikes on CraigsList at a too-good-to-be-true price, but I decided to trust their positive reviews. Great decision! Being a healthy drive away, I asked them if it would be possible to ship the bike to me. Duke was very accommodating, patient and helpful, even when my questions were purely due to lack of reading comprehension. He even measured the bike while we spoke on the phone so that I'd be comfortable buying it sight unseen. The bike arrived without issue, and reassembled it rides like a dream. Friendly and helpful folks, got me taken care of without any hassles. This was a new brake set install on my Santa Cruz Blur, working great!

My family has been a very very close family friend for many years. My experience here has never been the friendliest but I always went in with a open mind and a happy face. I bought my son a bike a month ago for Christmas I took it into them two days before Thanksgiving they told me that it would take a week to get to it but it was a minor fix it shouldn't take too long. Which I understood it's the holidays well now it's December 16 I got no phone call or anything and I called a week ago and they assured me that the bike would be done early this week as it was an easy minor fix for a child's bike. Well here we are on Thursday and no phone call I called them today and they told me that the bike will be done in a few days. This is a bike that's a Christmas present for a six-year-old little boy. I droped the bike off before Thanksgiving and I've had no contact with them unless it's on my end. It's very upsetting for me to do this but I do not recommend the shop at all. Myself and my family will begin to take our business somewhere else. I'm pretty bummed to write this review read more

Wow the sales lady was so rude. I couldn't even finish my sentence to ask a question before she started barking at me. So rude. They need some serious lessons in customer service. Compare the 5-star rating for Victory Velo just up the street to the over-all 4-star with this outfit. even though it is a 4-start over all, there are lots of 1-star reviews for this place. I walked up the street and got perfect service - with a smile and some chit chat - from Victory Velo. I will never return there. This reminded me of a story from my nephew a year ago, when I sent him to Auburn to get a basic tune up on his bike - and the price he was quoted from A-Town was twice what Victory Velo charged. read more

My boyfriend wanted to check out a bike that he had seen advertised on Craigslist recently. We drove from Fair Oaks to Auburn just for this purpose, and the owner, Duke, was in a bit of disbelief. What can I say? My man is obsessed with cycling! Overall, Duke was very cool, down to earth, and knew his stuff. His shop is extremely clean, and well kept with nice hard wood floors and used bikes displayed nicely on racks on the walls. Assorted bike parts and accessories adorn the other walls, and an old tandem hangs from the ceiling. My bf pretty much fell in love with the vintage Benotto that he had seen online. I know nothing about bikes really, so I took his word that the $300 we spent on it was an awesome deal. Unfortunately, two bike rides and a few days later, the rear derailleur and/or other part just completely broke apart while my man was on his ride home. What walked in the door after a long day of work and a broken bike was a seriously unhappy man. So he left a voicemail for the owner and asked what could be done. Obviously, we didn't want to totally eat $300. I realize this is not a chain store or anything but I personally was hoping that at the very least, we could return the bike and receive store credit. The best I was wishing for? Well, to get a full refund of course, but I knew that was a lot to ask. To my utter delight, my bf let me know this morning that the owner returned his call and said to bring the bike back for a full refund. WAY cool. Great customer service and a business ethic like this will ensure that we return for our cycle needs. Thank you so much, Duke!!! read more

Went to Atown bikes today. They have a sign on their door that says they don't wear masks and their customers don't need to either. Well I believe everyone should wear a mask. Guess they will miss out on the sale of the E-bike I wanted to buy. They must be doing well if the can afford to miss out on a 2 or three thousand dollar sale. These guys are amazing. I stopped in looking to see if they had any used full suspension mountain bikes and they said they did not have any at the time. Unlike other shops which had treated me more like a number or neglected to really give me the time of day once they find out your arnt going to spend $5k on a bike, Athens bikes was super friendly. Even though they knew I wasn't going to buy a bike from them likely, they still treated me extremely well. Both the owners and staff were wonderful. They asked me what type of bike I was looking at as I told them I was going to get one off Facebook marketplace. They offered me sound advice and answered my questions even though they were busy. I ended up going back and buying some gear from them later that day and once again they remembered me and were very helpful. I will be using them for service and whatever else I need from now on. Atown Bikes replaced my Firefly wheel's tube. About 2 weeks later the tire was flat & I returned to Atown. When I picked it up, they had removed the tube, discovered it was ok, but still replaced it with a new one. They did not charge me anything for the work or the tube. They surmised that since I kept the Firefly in the back of a hot car, air had escaped through the valve. This kind of service is rare these days & I would highly recommend this shop to anyone needing repairs or in the market for a new bicycle. They even carry electric bikes. read more

I needed repairs done in my bike ASAP for family bike trip. I called Atown bikes early Saturday morning and took my bike in for tire and break repairs. Everyone was kind, helpful, prices were very reasonable and work was done well. I returned and picked up my bike in record time the same morning and was back trail blazin with the family. I've known Duke and Christy for a couple years. He's always come off as a really straight forward. I had been wanting to buy a new mountain bike for a while. I tend to over think things, so when I would see Duke at the moto track he was always willing to listen and point out the positives and negatives of every bike, even if he didn't carry the brand. I decided on a Bulls. Their pricing was more than fair, but his service has far exceeded my expectations. Give them a shot, you wont be disappointed. read more

Call me traditional but I think you should actually do what you said you did. The husband found a bike they posted on Craigslist. Since we're not from this neck of the woods we had a friend come out if his way to pick it up after hashing out details with the shop over the phone. We were told the bike worked great and that they had tuned it up. Two weeks later we pick it up on the way to south lake to find the chain hasn't even been oiled!!! Now we're taking the long route in and adding time to our trip for them to fix and deliver as promised. We thought we were getting a good deal but instead we're burning daylight hours of our hard earned and overly short vacay sitting in traffic and wasting gas. To their credit (and one extra star) they are completely replacing the chain. read more

Owner Duke is an extremely honest fellow and would not steer anyone in a direction other than that which his expertise dictates is best for the rider, and his expertise is vast. He would gladly see you on a less expensive used bike that you'll have a better time on, than selling you an overpriced out-of-the-box model. The guy that owns this shop is down-to-earth, friendly, knowledgable, honest, and won't sell you stuff you don't need. I went in with a bike I've had for more than 15 years. Instead of trying to sell me a new bike (like another Auburn bike shop owner on CA-49 did), he just offered suggestions to make my bike better. The prices are reasonable, he does the work on the bike himself, and he delivers on-time and as-promised. I'm sold. Atown bikes is the place to go if you need anything for your bike, or a new bike. They have a nice selection of childrens bikes too, so bring your whole family and cruise around Auburn in style. read more

I bought a bike from A-Town a few years back, and have brought it in for regular maintenance since then. While the work does get done, it is by no means fast. On several occasions I have had to wait 4+ hours for a simple tire change, and have even had employees skip over me and help customers just walking in, even as I stood around for half an hour waiting to talk to the owner, before being finally told that he would call me and to come back later. I never received the call, and had to call back three times before I was able to contact anyone. The prices on equipment such as helmets and gear is about a 40% markup from online sources such as Amazon, which is unreasonable considering the shop likely purchases items wholesale. and far more than competing equipment in the area. Bike prices however, are reasonable. While the owner is friendly, his wife tends to be condescending on the phone, and I am almost never able to speak to the owner unless I am willing to wait around the shop for half an hour. I come here because investing in the tools to make my own repairs seemed like a lot of cash, but if I had spent the time I have spent waiting being able to get to work instead(I rely on my bike for transportation), I could have purchased the necessary tools and equipment myself by now. If the owner would take charge of answering phone calls, I think my experience would be much better. read more
