Came in for a tuneup on my very old bike and they did an excellent job and cleaned it up so well, it almost looks new.

I came in for some pedals and they had a decent selection so I got some. Came back the next week when I needed a tire and they were polite and offered up advice without being condescending like most bike shops. Then when I got a carbon wheel I had them lace it up. They were prompt, professional and did what they promised. I will always shop here from now on. I have had mixed experiences at bike shops around here but Bicycle Emporium does what's needed with a smile! They have a ton of products packed into the shelves. We called BEFORE driving al the way around the canyon divide with our motion sick inclined autistic son for new pedals that we could fit his pedal straps in. The young man on the phone was actually kind, helpful, put us on hold and went over and started looking for us a few options for pedals that would work. Specifically 1/2 inch spindle pedals. He said he had a few pair that might work and we packed up our kid (with a throw up towel) and made our way down the windy canyon. We glove and mask up and go in. The big guy that helped us was RUDE. Firstly, he was like, "these straps aren't safe; is he riding on mountain trails?." Look, OSHA, that's all they sell now online and he is riding his kiddie bike with training wheels in our cul de sac! It's not like we are strapping our child down to the bike! These used to be little plastic straps that you just slide your foot into like a horse riding stirrup. Now they are Velcro. Wow. Then he was like, "his bike didn't come with a toe clip?" Nope; if it had we would have use it. I asked "Do you sell toe clips for this size? We've looked for those too " They do not. He started showing us the big metal pedals and was dismissive about having anything. I told him the nice young man on the phone said he had some junior pedals for 16 inch bikes that might work. Or he also mentioned little BMX pedals. Low and behold, he pulls off the perfect pedal from the peg board. The straps work nicely. Then he says, "but it won't fit, it's 9/16." Then why show it to me??? So now we are having to Amazon some pedals but they won't get here for 3 or more weeks. Horrible customer service by the guy in person; should have let the young kid help us. What a waste of our time driving all the way into Auburn. Next time we will go to Velocity Bikes or ATown. :/ read more

This place is AMAZING!! The best customer service I have ever received from a bicycle shop. They are knowledgeable, accommodating, friendly and offer excellent service. Both Fernando and Bill were extremely knowledgeable and I liked how they talked respectfully to me since I am not that experienced with bicycles. The time to show me how to work with my bicycle rack and he even showed me how to install the bike on the rack. He didn't charge me for his time and was very great at explaining everything. I highly recommend this place, and will do all of my bicycle shopping and servicing here though I live 30 minutes away because of the excellent customer service. A+++ read more

The guy that took care of the paperwork noticed something he wanted to fix so asked me to wait for a minute so he could take care of it. It was past closing at this time. Bill stopped what he was doing, put my bike on a repair stand, and closely inspected and tested the drivetrain. He understood my concern and kindly explained that all was well and what I am experiencing is normal. Charged me nothing. I'm confident that his advice is correct--because of Bill's decades of experience as the leading purveyor of high-end bikes in or around Sacramento. I'm new to mountain biking so I bought a used e-MTB that needed some parts and repairs. Stopped by the shop to get an estimate on my repairs and buy a new seat, a tire, Gloves, shoes, and shorts. No one greeted me when I walked in the store. I looked around there was no one there but me. I stood at the repair counter for three or four minutes while technicians Chatted in the back room. I didn't know exactly what I needed so I started asking questions. I was fully prepared to book a repair date and purchase a couple hundred dollars worth of gear. I was met with arrogance and I felt as though they were talking down to me. I finally just walked out. My son wanted to purchase a push bike for his two-year-old boy. He went into this bike shop and again experience the same thing that I did. He found a bike that he wanted to buy on a rack and waited for someone to come and help him. He finally had to walk up to the service counter until one of the sales person that he wanted to buy a bike. They weren't doing anything other than talking in the back but told him to wait. After period of time took the bike off the rack, set it on the counter and ask someone to ring him up. If you're looking for customer service and a pleasant experience, stay away from this shop. Drive another two minutes and go to victory Velo bike shop. They will take care of you. read more

I love my Colnago bike as it fits me! It's not always easy to find a small frame in a quality bike with everything you want unless you order to build. I called first to check on hours and availability to upgrade my bike. Spoke with a young man named Nick. To be honest, I wasn't quite sure I wanted a young person vs someone with more experience. I told Nick what type rider I was and what I wanted. He was so nice and took time to explain pros/cons of different components and knew what he was talking about! (I did my research too). He didn't try to up sell me on anything, and let me have choices. I took my bike in on Tues afternoon and got it back the following Thurs early afternoon! I have visited this shop over the last 15 years and have always had excellent service! See my before and after photos! I think Nick did an awesome job. Finally talked to Bill, and he said bring it in but may take a couple days. I asked if it would be easier for him if I took the wheel apart and he said sure, he could probably get in replaced if I could leave it for the day. Got to the shop at 0950. One of the guys waved me in. He said give me a couple minutes and I'll get that taken care of for you. I walked out at 1015 with a new spoke and "trued" wheel. I am a healthcare worker. I walked into the store on the afternoon of November 21. It was crowded and the owner was not wearing his mask, not social distancing and interacting face to face with customers. I walked out but my partner needed to pick up their bike for repair. We have spent a lot of money in this store and deserve to be treated fairly as consumers, independent of this person's personal beliefs. It was clear that this man had no regard for the health and safety of his customers. He made the choice to put his personal beliefs above concern for his customers. Where is his personal responsibility? The state of CA has guidance. Wearing a mask is now required statewide. It can slow the spread of COVID-19 by limiting the release of virus into the air. Cloth masks or face coverings can reduce your exposure to infectious droplets through filtration. It also reinforces physical distancing, and shows you care about the health of others. The yelp covid-19 section only states that social distance is practiced, not masks. The Bicycle Emporium states the following on their website Bicycle Emporium's Response to COVID-19. So thankful for such an amazing company. I had a race on Saturday morning and totally forgot I had flat tires on my double stroller. I took it in Friday afternoon to get new tubes. I came back a couple hours later (even though they told me it would only take a minute and I could wait for it) and come to find out I only needed one of the four tires fixed. The very nice guy said he filled them all up and watched them the whole day to make sure they held air. I walked out paying FAR less than I had anticipated and so happy to have my stroller pumped and ready to go! So grateful for this company and the wonderful people that work there! read more

I recently moved from Sacramento to past the Colfax area, I went from 0 elevation/sea level riding my road bike the city to inclines of 600-800 ft at 3000 feet elevation. It was killing me to try and ride my bike. I was unable to ride my bike past 8 miles; and I watched helplessly as people who were double my age gliding up those hills; it was horrible :( I felt like a weakling and I couldn't figure it out. I run 8 miles 3-4 times a week and kept thinking... am I really that weak on a bike? So I did some research and found out I needed a new cassette. I took my bike in Bicycle Emplorium and they fixed up my bike from a 11-28 to a new cassette of 11-32 in the time it took for me to eat lunch at the Thai place next door (FYI: If you love Thai food: Thai Restaurant next door is delicious). The service at Bicycle Emporium is AMAZING! I didn't realize it at the time but I guess the guy who fixed my bike up is the owner. He is very friendly, helpful, and seemed genuinely concerned with helping me up the hills. Also he's a very honest man and gave me a great price too! I took my bike out the next day and can't believe the difference. Hills that I was not able to get up I just glided up; whew! I swear I wanted to give the man a HUG "Thank you so much!" I don't feel like a weakling now, and finally can start riding again. read more

I walked in knowing nothing about bikes. I explained to them exactly what I was looking for both in product and price point. They didn't steer me towards a $3000. Bike, but rather what I asked for (unlike another shop in town). They also explained that they would be happy to order anything I needed. I picked a bike I loved, but then realized I had know where to store it until Christmas. They happily offered "lay away" services for free and basically held my bike for me. I have gone to this shop for years for purchases and repairs...spent lots of money. The last couple times I have been in there the OWNER completely ignored me when I walked up to the counter and stood right near him and I was the only one around. Guess he's to good to say hello or acknowledge me...a 50's something woman...because when a guy came in right after me that he was familiar with he went right over to him. I've driven by this shop dozens of times and always wanted to stop, it just looks like the kind of place you would want to buy a mountain bike from, I live in Patterson, about an hour and a half away and made it a point to stop in. I bought a Colnago C-60 from Bill. I live in Austin, TX and could not get competent local help. This was a very high-end (expensive) bike with a Pioneer power meter, Dura Ace Di2 (9100), Zipp 303 wheels, etc. I had a lot invested in the decision and entrusted it to someone I never met: Bill Marengo. Bill selected the right size frame and helped me with 20 customization options. I received the bike and after some assembly on my end was able to ride a bullet-proof 48 miles immediately. Very unusual in my 32 years experience. And Bill's prices were reasonable and fair. He even called to tell me a part was available cheaper online from England and explained he could not match the price because the British pound was weak. I appreciated the honesty and made the purchase with Bill. I wish Bicycle Emporium was in my hood. read more

Stopped in to consider buying a mountain bike and asked for advice since I am only experienced with road bikes. Bill immediately showed me ' a great deal' which was a high end bike that one of his employees was selling for $1700. The bike was a great bike but cover in mud. I asked him how to clean it and if all parts were in good shape. He said to just spray it off and it would be fine. I wanted assurance that there were not any issues, but he blew me off. When I again asked him the price, he said it was $1800... and then went to help another customer. I felt insulted and talked down too... I will buy a mountain bike, but not from him.
