I went to Tracy or Stacey, because a couple weeks ago I went from blonde to brown. It was just the color had red tones which I don't like, so I asked if she could just add a few lighter pieces in there, not change the whole color. She said she'd have to use bleach. No you don't, not if it's just a few strands. You don't have to use bleach on my whole head. I think she just didn't want to do the few strands as it was a free do over. One, never argue with a customer who asks for what they want, and two, I've done low lights and color enough that I know you can do a few lighter pieces on top. I will not be back there because all you did was run the flat iron thru my hair and wasted my time on a pointless consultation. This is not my usual salon that I normally go to, know I know why. read more

Still relatively new to Asheville, I've been on the hunt for a good hair salon. I made an appointment at The Atrium Salon because it offers a pretty long list of services that I thought could work well for my sometimes "temperamental" hair and I was excited about the fact that they offer evening hours - good for those of us who work during the day and can't get to the salon before 5pm. My initial excitement about trying this new (to me) salon faded quickly because what should have been a pretty quick and simple cut (really, a trim) and color turned into a very unexpected, long night. I arrived at the salon at 5:30 - 15 minutes early for my appointment - and didn't leave until 9pm! My stylist was apparently new to using the salon's particular brand of foils and as a result put them in at a snail's pace - like, the slowest of slow snails. I wish I could say it was worth it, but not really. My hair looked fine, and nothing was "wrong" with it when I left. But, the highlights I asked for - the ones that led to the exceedingly long foil application - are practically invisible. Definitely not worth a 3.5 hour appointment, being the last client to shut down a salon an hour past closing, and having to cancel dinner plans. Atrium seems like the ideal salon for someone who has hours to kill and no better ideas for how to spend the extra time. I myself don't have time for a return visit. read more

Crystal was an artist. We had a great consultation and she really listened to what I wanted. She actually read between the lines because I am not very knowledgeable about hair products and services. The outcome of my color was better than expected, she took her time and you could tell took a lot of pride in her work, as she should have. Never have I had such a positive experience at a salon. I look forward to seeing her again. The overall service is excellent and the online appointment system is really easy to use and they call to confirm. This is the best hair salon in the area. I have checked out other places, but nothing else compares. Everyone is so nice and accommodating. The stylist are really easy to talk to and really try to understand what you want done and they do an amazing work. I am really happy with how my hair came out the multiple times I have gone to this salon. In the past, I would dread going to other salons, but now that I go to The Atrium Salon, I look forward to getting my haircut, colored, and styled since I know it will turn out great. read more

What I love about Crystal is the depth of her knowledge about hair. I have older, frizzy hair and she knows exactly what to do to keep it nice. She can explain the science behind what is happening. For example she explained to me why brunettes and blonds have a different texture and why we are completely different. What works for one will not work for all. I guess the best thing she does is give me an excellent cut. No hair style will work if the cut is bad and I've never had anyone who is better at knowing how to do a great basic cut. I've been going for years and always get compliments. People are always asking me "Who does your hair?" and I'm proud to tell them. I called a for a last minute apt (same day) for my daughter and myself and we were given apts the same day, back to back. Lindy was our stylist. She was very accommodating, listened to what we wanted, made great suggestions and was so nice. I came home, my husband said it was one of the best cuts I have ever had. Crystal was my stylist, but that's the issue, she can't style hair and cant cut hair. The color was ok, but not great, especially for the price. She also ruined to tops of my due to getting color on them. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. The staff is very unprofessional. read more

I made an appointment online for a blow dry bar style, for a special night out. My stylist was super friendly and obviously very experienced. She was quick (which is saying a lot, I have a lot of hair) but didn't rush, and my hair has never looked so sleek. The price was very reasonable, and I will definitely be back when I need another new look for a special occasion. read more

My daughter and I both had blow-outs there today the shampoo was wonderful and relaxing and the blow dry styles were fantastic.

I was a walk in customer and was very clear about the condition of my hair as a result of stylists continuing to overlap my color. I've been having my hair colored for the majority of my life and only in Asheville have I experienced such terrible salon treatments. They recommended I see Jennifer and it was not until the day I sat in her chair that I learned of her lack of experience...less than one year! I should have walked out, as anyone in their first year should still be apprenticing. I think this speaks to salons overall half-baked mentality that a client who is requesting special attention for color related issues be paired with a brand new stylist. I had to instruct Jennifer how to place the foils to frame my face and then she left an entire chunk directly on my natural part line that reveals all of the root that should have been colored. Terrible salon. Lacking in sophistication, basic comforts, and industry knowledge. And to top it off they used a shampoo on me that you can buy at any average drug store. I would not let Jennifer near my hair with her scissors after I saw what a mess she made of the color. Needless to say I promptly drove to my stylist in Atlanta whose cut helped offset the awful color, but was also instructed to not do anything to the color as it had been pulled through, my cuticle damaged, and the strength compromised. I have no idea how this salon survives. read more
