ABSOLUTE WORST HAIR COLOR OF MY LIFE. I had to cut more than six inches off my hair to above my ears to even attempt to fix the hatchet job Destonie did on me. She not only ruined my hair, she was rude and dismissive during the appointment (and after), and I should have walked out before I let her touch me. The color was orange and striped like a skunk. The cut was uneven and she failed to respond for two days and then refused to fix it without charge which is industry standard when a stylist screws up. The damage was beyond belief but not even an apology from her or the vile owner who, of course, backed her stylist. I lost my home and have severe health problems related to Tropical Storm Helene and paying Destonie $315.00 for chunks of my hair to fall out is heartbreaking and inexcusable. Shame on her and Zhenya. These people are far too big for their small-town britches. read more

Destonie is amazing!!! Her work as a stylist and colorist are masterful and transformational. She helped me brighten my look while embracing my gray by blending in herringbone highlights and lowlights based on the natural tones of my hair. I was very concerned about the outcome looking natural, subtle and being low maintenance. She listened attentively in our consult and totally delivered! I think this salon must be too popular for its own good and maybe suffers from poor time management. If you don't value your time and love sitting around waiting for a long time then definitely go here. This salon runs way behind, or at least did when we were there. I don't mind waiting for 10 or even up to 20 minutes for a hair appointment to begin, but this place was running at least 45 minutes behind. I brought my wife here to get a haircut on her birthday, her first professional haircut in over two years. We waited and waited and waited and waited. Finally, we asked how much longer would we be waiting before the hair stylist would begin the haircut and the stylist had the audacity to say we have "nervous energy" and told us we weren't as laid back as her other clients. What?! Perhaps because we didn't appreciate that she was a minimum of 45 minutes late. We were on time for my wife's appointment, but yet expected to wait at least 45 minutes. Unacceptable. In the end we left without my wife getting a haircut. If you're going to be that late maybe try to call the client to let them know before they rush to the appointment only to wait and wait, wasting time on their birthday. The owner was later made aware of the situation and did absolutely nothing. She didn't even apologize. Her response was that the tardy stylist was "very well sought after", appointments go over sometimes, and in the future a consultation will be required before booking new clients "to avoid any further misunderstandings." Oh and the owner said we wouldn't be charged! As if they were somehow doing us a favor. Charged for what? I would sure hope she wouldn't charge us seeing as the stylist did not cut my wife's hair and was extremely late, and from our perspective, really kinda rude overall. What a find!!! Super excited to finally find a professional hairdresser that knows (and has) curly hair! It's seriously my 1st time walking out of a salon and not fixing the style/cut once I got into my car. Wow! I just returned from my cut & style with Lyssa A. and could not be more pleased with the results. Plus, the education during & after on how I can personally take care of the cut and style at home was so relevant and informative. People come from across the country to see these Hair Artists and once you go there you will understand why they have the loyal following they do! I have been going to Zhenya (who heads her namesake Salon) for 11 years and will never go to anyone else. I was excited when Amy Grooms moved to this salon from downtown Asheville. Yesterday I had my first visit with her at this new location. She knows my hair well so I will happily travel to see her at whichever salon she works. Amy is very talented and has helped me through the long process of going from black to blonde. She did everything necessary to keep the integrity of my hair and now that I'm back to my natural color, I just visit her for hair cuts. She will also be doing my hair for my wedding in January of 2021. Salon Zhenya is a beautiful high-end salon in West Asheville in a building shared by a few other businesses. I just moved here to Asheville a few weeks ago. I was dreading finding a new stylist, as every move I encounter several bad stylists, cuts and colors before I locate a good one. I looked Zhenya up on Yelp! after a recommendation of her on the Next Door app and was pleased to see high reviews there as well. I took a leap of faith and booked an appointment. All I can say is that Zhenya is everything the reviews stated and more! She provided excellent service, fun conversation, and the most amazing cut and color I have ever had in my life. Her knowledge and skill is beyond her years. Her recommendation for my cut and color was brilliant and her work equally stunning. Her assistant and scheduler, Olga, is equally amazing. There's nothing I don't love about this style & color, not even the price for 5 hours of careful thought. I arrived from Washington DC on June 8th & every day my hair was growing more awful. Last Sunday, I stopped at Serenity+Scott Beauty in the Arcade at the Grove for make up counseling (great new eyebrow control). Zhenya is amazing. Had a terrible color experience at Salon Dragonfly. The colorist turned my hair orange and said she couldn't fix it and went so far to imply my hair caused the problem not her!
