I contacted salon over a month ago after seeing a cut and color that the owner had done. I contacted the salon the next day no response. I sent text or email message I can't remember which one now. I got call from someone there who said that owner was out of the country but was due back the following week. So I said great can you call me when she returns. Nothing again!!! I called couple days ago and left another message finally yesterday someone called me back. I explained that I wanted to book an appointment but I wanted someone to get with the owner and find out who could do that cut and color since she was no longer taking new clients. I explained to the young lady the style and the person name who had that style and the client had been going to her for over 10 plus years so I'm sure she would remember (the owner). and if she could find out by the owner if she could explain to another stylist what I was looking for and who could do it correctly. The girl on the phone only wanted to book me an appointment with one of the stylist not knowing what I was looking for. I finally go so frustrated I told the girl to just forget the entire appointment. It is really bad when a hair salon can not do what you ask only want to stick you whoever. I guess pray and pay if it was not done correctly. What a shame too because I am a good person and only wanted someone there to do their job and help me before sticking me with an unknown person. Over the Christmas holidays I visited Asheville and in asking for a well established, reputable hair salon Wink Salon was suggested as being excellent for cut and colour both of which I needed before I returned home. I read a few reviews and did some research on the ownership and thought I would give Wink Salon a try. On calling in to make my appointment at what I had been told was one of the best hair salons in Asheville. I was very impressed by the booking process and polite professionalism of the staff handling their calls. In order to assist with the colour match I was asked to submit a photograph of my current and my natural hair colour to the link which would be emailed to me. A request with which I happily complied. I was offered the name of the Master Colourist whom I was told would be reaching out to me if there were any questions or concerns. I did not receive a call and assumed all was in order. On the day of my appointment, as a result of both my GPS and very heavy holiday traffic I called in to inform them I would be roughly 10 minutes delayed for my appointment. The staff was incredibly understanding and helpful in simplifying the instructions being given by my GPS. Those were the pluses I encountered at Wink Salon at Biltmore in Asheville NC. The negatives - The colourist assigned to me did briefly discuss colour but suggested having another stylist as being the best professional to do the job. Unfortunately, that particular stylist, was out sick that day and was confirmed as being fully booked through to February. I looked around the salon and having seen her photograph in my online research I recognized one of the owners was present in the salon. I decided I would use her presence as a recognition of good service guarantee. I thought since colour was out I would get one of the stellar cuts for which they are known, I was told yes, a cut was possible. I was assigned to Danielle who escorted me over to her chair where she explained most of her cuts were done on longer hair and then suggested another stylist, Jordan, who was not working that day, but whom she was sure would know exactly what would work well for me. Sensing a trend I asked if a shampoo blow dry was possible. She smilingly replied, it certainly was possible and it was at that point, she asked, what my hair looked like when it was wet and followed that question with how did it look if left to dry on its own. I explained it would look pretty much the way it looked currently. I then asked Danielle how long she had been working as a stylist. Her response was three (3) years. It was confirmed all stylists had attended Beauty School and were certified. I guaranteed her my hair would not fall out and I suggested we give the shampoo, blow dry a try and find out. She was timorous as she executed the task of a shampoo, blow dry which compelled me several times during the process to assure her there was little damage she could do in one visit, it was my hair. Finally as a last attempt to make her more comfortable I suggested she pretend I was just a brunette sitting in her chair. She smiled and we completed our appointment. I am positive the text I received with a survey was automatically triggered upon my payment of what was, tip included my $55 Wink Salon shampoo and blow dry. I would describe my appointment for a cut and colour at Wink Salon in Biltmore Village in Asheville as educational, enlightening and for me having lived in several countries a most American experience. read more

I just had a terrible experience at this salon after being a customer off and on since coming to Asheville. I'd asked for highlights and ended up with bangs that were bleach blonde (I am a brunette). I thought I'd give her the benefit of the doubt, and returned five weeks later. In the am I was left with brown dye on my forehead and below my ears. The dye had come off and stained my leather car seat. I called to not receive compensation, but to let the salon know of my negative experiences Instead I was treated rudely, cold, and not a word of "I'm sorry:. Instead, blame placed upon me. I have long thick combination wavy/kinky hair and i am always hesitant to try a new salon. After reading the reviews i decided to go to Wink. This was my third time and Stylist Krista Kelly is the one! She took the time to listen... heard me, and intuited what i meant by my crazy desires like "i want to cut it all off but i want to keep it long!" She took more time than any of the other stylists i had experienced anywhere before, and though the others I have tried at Wink were ok, Kristy rocked the show for me with my hair. She took her time cutting it but was swift and efficient. She was witty and authentically friendly too. She explained step by step what she was doing, whether in the sink, working in product, or with scissors in hand! She also showed me how to handle it at home. I am happy and it was worth it. Would have been 5 stars if they carried organic/natural products. Someone stopped me at a restaurant i went to about 45 minutes later and told me that he and his son noticed how good i smelled as i walked by. That's strong stuff! So I am going to a professional work conference and wanted to feel professional. I thought it was finally time to get myself some highlights. I came in feeling like my hair looked like a mop head. And oh my God what a transformation, I got my hair lightened, and an absolutely amazing hair cut. My stylist was Kristen, and she did absolutely incredible. I highly recommend going here for an amazing transformation. Absolutely loved everything about this salon, the atmosphere was amazing. The front desk was absolutely incredible. I had an awful experience. I made an appointment to go blonde and to tone my hair. when I got there she said she was too busy for me to go blonde that day so we decided on a burgundy color. she put metal clips in my hair and put me under a heater until they were burning my scalp and then I go to check out and they charged me $300. later I realize they were trying to charge $300 for my initial appointment it should never cost $300 to put a stain on top of your hair I understand if I was going blonde but I wasn't so they mischarged me and burned my scalp I will never be back. I had a wonderful consultation, deep conditioning and haircut with Emily. What impressed me about Emily was her ability to actually listen to what I was saying, as well as her talent for making my ideas come to life. Since I live outside the state I asked Emily to write out her "style guide" (instructions) for my own hair designer to follow back home, for which she most graciously did. For the amount I paid, I was very disappointed. My stylist was ranked as a very high level in working with blondes and you could barely tell she did anything when she was done. On top of that, she was kind of rude when I mentioned it to her and overall wasn't friendly. I spent more than three times what I usually spend and nothing to show for it. I took my daughter to this salon since she has curly hair. Even though it was expensive, Her hair stylist was great and did a good job so we scheduled another appointment for 3 months later. I received the reminder while on a cruise and sent an email due to limited services 3 days prior as soon as I received the reminder. On Sunday I received an email saying I was being charged 50% of the services. I called first thing Monday morning to explain so I wouldn't be charged. The manager called me back and after explaining she stated this is our policy so we are still charging.because they did not receive the email. It is unfortunate they handle their customers this way and therefore will not be returning. read more

The salon is clean and modern. I've been here three times. Each time I've left with a so-so haircut that I didn't love, but looked Ok. For the high price, I expected more. My most recent cut was from Taylor and I was left underwhelmed and had to soon get yet another cut somewhere else because it grew out so poorly. I won't be returning here. read more

Unfortunately I will not return to this salon due to the poor customer service I received. I have been here a few times considering I spend winters working out of state. I returned to NC and made an appointment on line with Ryan's. When I went back to my account online I couldn't find the appointment so I called the salon to make an appointment. I noticed a charge for a no show for the appointment I couldn't find. I wasn't happy about that but figured I would address that on the new appointment. I drove in one hour into Asheville for my appointment just to be told it was canceled. This was after I called made the appointment, and drove in for it to be canceled. Marybeth remade another appointment for me the following week for 12:45. I verbally verified with Marybeth the time twice before I hung up. Today I go into the salon arrive at 12:45. Ryan's from the top of the stairs where everyone one in the salon could here very rudely telling me "I can only dry cut you your 15 minutes late" when I tried to explain to her that I verified my appointment and was told 12:45 she then told me she had to stay on track with her day and added "I haven't seen you in a year". It had not been a year it had been in November 23 before I left to work in Florida for the winter. This shouldn't even matter I'm still a paying customer. This salon has no problem charging your cc for any missed appointments. I on the other hand recieve rudeness and an offer for a conditioning treatment on my next visit. 4 hours of my life has been wasted driving to appointments that I made and they either cancelled or told me the wrong time. When your treated this way they obviously don't need my business. That was completely the attitude they conveyed to me. That my business was expendable and not needed. Wink is a very sunny and comfortable salon. They take customer service very seriously and are always offering drinks and checking to see if their customers are okay. They even have candy dishes in the sunny and cozy waiting area. I've never actually seen a salon I would hang out it for fun... until I went to Wink! The rest of this review is specific to bridal prep, more specifically, Olivia's bridal makeup and Alejandro's bridal hair styling. Olivia was amazing. She really listened to what I wanted and then just let her natural talent fly. i felt badly because I wasn't able to give her a ton of direction (as someone who knows very little about makeup) but she wasn't phased at all! She made suggestions and asked questions and made me feel totally comfortable from start to finish. One thing she does really well is knowing when to make a suggestion that you don't know you're going to love, until you see it on. (Read: AMAZING lip color that had hazel notes in it which made my olive skin and hazel eyes simply glow!!) If you're getting your bridal make up done, get it with Olivia. I cannot say enough positive things about Alejandro. He's incredibly talented. He knew exactly the way my hair would work in his hands within seconds of seeing me. He was very open and honest and frank with me, and made me feel really comfortable telling him how I felt. He's a true artist who does not cut corners. I think my favorite part of working with him was watching him get excited as he put together my high-fashion up-do. Every time something came out as he planned (which was 99.9% of the time) I swear his smile got wider and wider. This was just for my hair and makeup trial, and I cannot wait to go back with my girls and the moms for the real deal in a month! I love Wink. It's the first salon that I've found that I'm actually willing to pay top dollar to go to. They have such a hard working staff and are so hospitable as soon as you walk through the door. My stylist, Laura, was amazing and had such a great personality. When you're in the chair for a few hours getting color in, it's always nice to have an actual conversation with your stylist. I was most impressed with the way she listened and tended to me the whole time. No wondering where she was, or when she would return. My daughter and I went for highlights and a cut. Neither one of us liked our haircuts afterwords. My highlights were adequate. The real problem was my daughter color procedure. She is a natural redhead. The stylist decided to put a permanent red glaze on my daughter hair. She did not first neutralize the color previously applied. The result was not good. The scalp and hair turned orange. The color on the scalp was not contained so the hairline appeared quite sloppy. Within a week my daughter's hair had an area that was green and the hair was frizzy. It looked terrible. We decided not to return to Wink for a correction since the color and cut was so terrible in the first place. My daughter went to another salon to have her color corrected and conditioned (a process that took 3 hours). Wink was very expensive. Needless to say, we will not be returning. read more

I am a 27 year old woman who has spent wayyyyyy too many hours at hair salons paying top dollar for a cut that I didn't even like. Because of that I have often neglected my hair. My wife has been coming to Wink for 6+ months now and her hair always looks great. I FINALLY worked up the courage to get mine done by the same person who does hers and I am so happy I did! Jay Melencon took the time to ask me how I style my hair so that he could cut it the best way to suit my styling methods (which sounds like it would be standard but I have never been asked that before). I asked him a little bit about highlights but he never pushed me or made me feel like I had to get them. He was honest and thorough and I have never been happier with my haircut before! 10/10 I highly recommend Jay. The ladies at the front desk are absolutely wonderful and remember us by name and they have a great selection of coffee, wine, and sparkling waters. I recently relocated to Asheville and was on the hunt for a salon that could handle my wavy/curly very full head of hair. I found Wink salon and read awesome reviews. I loved the bios on how everyone that works there embraces curly hair and will truly make you look stunning no matter what you need. They live up to their words 100%. Kelsey is AMAZING! She's the sweetest person and listened to everything I was concerned about or desired. My first visit there I didn't know what I wanted just something very different, it had been a year since my last cut due to horrible experiences. Kelsey recommended a deva curl cut, and we did a balayage. I loved it!! I couldn't stop hugging her. She was so awesome giving me instructions on how to work with my curls, what products I can use. My second visit back I decided to go bold with a short bob cut to change it up again. Again, Kelsey did an amazing job on the cut so I can style it curly or straight. INCREDIBLE!!! I just moved to town 2 weeks ago and was desperate for a haircut. Unfortunately I went to Mountain Xpress' 2013 "Salon of the year" winner first and got my almost bum length curly hair lopped (not as bad as chopped but much more insulting) off just bellow my shoulders. Enter Theresa at Wink. She was amazing. I explained the situation and she immediately diagnosed the problem. She warned me that she would need to go a wee bit shorter to fix some of the problems so it would grow out correctly, but I'm so happy she did. I haven't had my hair this short in a decade and I am absolutely loving it! She turned a bad haircut into my new favorite! The salon is also awesome. Very clean, modern, and professional while still maintaining that fun Asheville flair. The other Wink women I meant were equally as awesome and they ALL have amazing hair. BEWARE! I had one great experience, then one bad one. They make you sign a "release" that says , basically, they aren't responsible FOR ANYTHING! I was quoted $135.00 for highlights and cut, when I checked out it was SIXTY FIVE DOLLARS more! The stylist only discussed a $10.00 up charge for a conditioner! They only adjusted the $10.00! No matter how great the service was, I felt totally RIPPED OFF! I despise businesses that lack integrity! read more

i am stunned. i read all reviews, all good. my visit started out well, i scheduled a consultation and that went well. we seemed to be very much on the same page. i am from the east coast (nyc/new england) and so was my stylist. i had pictures, we discussed length, my hair history etc etc. despite the high price for a master stylist, i felt confident. if i were really tech savvy, i would post a picture of the photo i brought to her and my ultimate haircut. not even close.....way to short and i asked her why it was so short. what up? she immediately sort of lost interest, was a little distracted and left me at the front desk without explanation, apology, nothing. so, i know hair grows etc etc. but, i feel incredibly gypped out of 70$ and i am polite enuf to leave a tip. in retrospect, i shouldnt have. read more

After years and years of telling stylist's, I do not want blonde highlights, I finally found someone who listened and gave me EXACTLY what I had envisioned. I am new to Asheville and desperately needed to get my hair fixed from the last stylist who gave me blonde highlights. I found Gary Topple on Wink's website and was able to look through some of his work on Instagram and really liked his styles so figured I would take a chance on him. I got a color, cut and then Baylage and was super specific about NO BLONDE.....and low and behold, he actually listened to me!! Gary gave me by far the BEST hair cut and color I have ever gotten. I cannot not express how awesome it feels to finally have the color I have wanted for years. I've been a "curly girl" for around 15 years, ever since I liberated my hair and gave up the brushes and straighteners. I moved here from NYC four months ago, where I'd faithfully gone to a Deva Salon in SoHo. I'd been doing my own color for the past year and half - mostly for convenience. After reading favorable reviews, I made an appointment with Angie at Wink to correct the dreadful haircut I'd given myself out of desperation a couple of months ago, and to get full highlights to help the long transition ahead from dark blond to no color.
