OBGYN-DO NOT GO HERE Absolutely awful experience. My PCP is in Atrius Plymouth so when I found out I was pregnant, Atrius OB seemed like the easier option. I registered at just 4 weeks. It has been HELL. They do not communicate. They do not do Ultrasounds or deliver in Plymouth but do not tell you that until your first appointment. They do not release your own medical records easily to you to transfer. Office staff is rude, phone lines are constantly down. Now I am 10 weeks pregnant with still no ultrasound in sight. read more

I wish I could give atrius health zero stars. the billing department is conniving and slippery. Beware-- they say they will work with your insurance, wait until one year the claim cannot be reopened, and then begin collections. When you do call them they just repeated themselves, in the hopes of frustrating and breaking you so you'll give up and pay, an incredibly manipulative tactic-- particularly in the business of health care. Have been coming for years to various atrius locations and it seems clear their general quality of care is going downhill . Now being part of the for-profit Optum company the slide into sub par care and churn in terms of administration seems to be getting worse . Everything seems focused on getting you to pay copays and then in and out of the office as fast as possible . Staff quality hasn't gotten any better and they appear to be cutting staff numbers to save money. Empty seats at many greeter locations are normal now in many departments , replaced by a single person where there used to be 3. Use of poorly trained MAs that ask alarming questions ("does this look right? - on a blood pressure reading") and reliance on nurses and NPs instead of physicians is increasing as cost cutting pressures increase and lack of employable providers increase. This place is depressing, it's hard to schedule and feel very cared for rather than a piece of meat for the beancounters . I happen to have a decent PCP/NP pair but it's hard to recommend this network with how obviously badly they're handling people in general. There are some good doctors hidden in this system , but every time I go I think about switching because of all the BS around them. read more

After a physical my physician recommended a visit to Orthopedics. While there I was recommended a medicine and physical therapy. Twice the wrong medicine was ordered, once as an oral med and I needed a topical med. Then the medicine was ordered but it was several days until the Doctor approved it. I found staff friendly but not knowledgeable. Wrong med if taken multiple side effects ordered multiple times. read more

We typically come here for our son's pediatrician who is fabulous but im giving two stars for the way they treat their patients with COVID symptoms. In the peak of winter, when it's freezing out, they expect you to wait in the parking lot until you receive a phone call. No guarantees on how long it'll take! My son has been a patient at Harvard Vanguard in Medford since he was born. He has an extremely rare syndrome and has had three open heart surgeries. Each time I contact the office Gloria helps me. She makes sure my son is taken care of. She is empathetic, kind, and goes above and beyond. I am so thankful for Gloria and all she has done for my family. People like her deserve to be recognized. Been a pt for almost 20 years but no more. Too many misdiagnosis' from internal medicine. The last one involved a VERY LARGE cyst on my hip. I found out about this 2.5 years after the x-ray was taken (HVMA Medford) and sought a 2nd opinion (MGH Sports Medicine) because I couldn't walk and pcp apparently can't see a VERY LARGE cyst on x-ray and only knows how to prescribe an rx every now and then to give pt break from pain. MGH lanced the cyst and guess what. Pain is gone! Finally, HVMA doesn't have any female orthopedic doctors. The men I've seen have mostly been dismissive and don't know how to diagnose women. One dr is a cutter. He wanted to cut my shoulder following an MVA. This would have required general anaesthesia. His scheduler provided a date. When I asked about pre op bloodwork she glanced at my record, looked at me, and said, "you look healthy!" Immediately got a 2nd opinion. I did not need surgery to my shoulder. Turns out I had a really bad whiplash which was successfully treated with injections. read more

Have to add another helpful tip. Just don't go here. Choose elsewhere. Completely and utterly unhelpful. I saw a cardiologist I have been seeing for years. They had my records for a loooonnnnng enough time, they should have flagged that it was a problem. They did not. Then they tell me they will cover it one time, but I would need to switch doctors. They did not cover it. I got a bill. Now they are telling me, it's just to late for them to help me out, and that I need to file an appeal with BCBS. I just really felt the need to inform people. I will try and find other popular sites to warn of their bad practices. Terrible terrible services. They could help me, I know this for a fact. They are choosing not to. Just bad. read more

If you have read any of my other reviews - you know I spend time in hospitals.... :( From surgeries, to health problems, and eating pizza even though I am allergic to it (ok ok, so not the last one - but I am sure it will happen some day!) I know the medical world from the view of the patient! And Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Medford Square has, by far, the most attentive internal medicine staff I have ever encountered!! On more than one occasion, RNs, NPs, and Docs have stayed beyond hours of operations to attend to patients. Their level of follow up is insane! They call, text, and do everything they need to to make sure you are taken care of. I even had an NP give me her cell number because she was concerned about my level of care with from other doctors and wanted to make sure she could help. I have never experienced such amazing customer service - even outside the medical industry! If you have a choice of medical centers and a HMO/POS system - I can recommend a handful of awesome doctors at this place. I have yet to have a bad experience (and that is saying a lot)! As with any medical office, sometimes you have to sit in the waiting room longer than you would like, but they do their best and acknowledge each patient and keep you posted on time lines. From what I have experienced, you can usually get an appointment for the same day even. This place helps restore my faith that the medical field is not going completely down hill in terms of service! This place is phenominal!!! I was never one for going to the doctors office, but the convenience of HVMA makes me want to go all the time! Anytime I've needed to make an appt with urgency, I have never had a problem. My PCP spends time with me (unlike most doctors these days) and explains to me exactly what is going on and what is going to happen. All of their information is documented on a computer network which makes them green and also makes finding and updating my information quick and easy. Whenever I need medication I get it filled from their on site pharmacy and the prescriptions are just emailed downstairs from my doctor which means that most times its ready by the time I go downstairs. HVMA is one stop shopping for all your medical needs. X-Ray, blood work, behavioral health, pharmacy, optical services. Everything! Recently I need orthopedic services as well as PT and was referred to their Somerville location (which is even bigger!) and their Braintree location. It made having a broken leg incredibly easy on me. Everyone knew my history and I didn't have to keep explaining myself. An added benefit for me is that there is also a parking garage on site that is FREE. I love free parking. Thanks HVMA! read more

A friend of mine recommended me to Dr. Neptune Hammond. She is an amazing gynecologist. I started coming to this office back in July when I found out I was pregnant. My nurse practitioner was Susan Spang, also an amazing person. I don't remember the nurses name who always checked my BP and such but she had dark long hair and a great personality. My experience here is always a positive one. The staff is friendly and very informative. Now that my little one is here, she also comes here for pediatrics. Our pediatrician is Dr. Wedad Almasri. She's new to the center but she is great with baby. She always has a smile on her face, very positive and answers any questions and concerns I may have. I love this place and I always have a great experience here. read more

I used to love this place and it might still be great but, I'm deeply disappointed by my recent experience. I am a patient there. Healthy woman only needing to be seen every 3-5 years. I called to set up an appt with urgent care if possible. First the person who answered was very rude, placing me on hold without waiting for my response. Then she told that I had been seen in a few years, which I acknowledged and told her that I only require physicals. She the told me that this clinic was not seeing patients and gave me another office number before rudely hanging up on me. Not before telling me that she doesn't know if they have urgent care. Are you kidding me? You're the same company. A simple interoffice call would have answered that. Of course she didn't state her name. I've been running a fever for two days and have an infant and I'd rather not go into the ER. Sadly it's looking like my only option. Very disappointed. read more

This review is for their pediatric practice. We love this office. My son sees Dr Almasri and she is no joke, the best and most caring doctor I've come across. I'm a first time mom and always have lots of questions. She always makes me feel like she has all the time in the world for me. I never feel rushed or like my questions are dumb. And unlike many pediatricians, she isn't an alarmist. She's so calm which ensures I don't freak out! The first time I met her at my appointment for my son, we talked about our families and about cooking! She's so down to earth and makes you feel important when in her presence. The nurses, like Charlie, and rest of the staff are also so great and helpful. I've called a couple of times because I had questions and Charlie, like Dr. Almasri, is very calm and knowledgeable. This place is great because there is plenty of free garage parking - just another perk to a great office. However, I'm not sure it is accessible by public transportation. Just something to keep in mind! I can't imagine going to any other practice! read more

The PCP I saw as a new patient was good. The rest of the organization, as far as I have dealt with it, has a bureaucracy problem. There is little consistency in the people who phone and people don't seem to communicate well with each other even if they are interacting with the same patient. At one point someone I had never heard of phoned, they said, because they didn't understand what was in my medical records regarding blood thinners. It turned out that person did understand what was written in my medical records but assumed that I was lying and the nurse who took down the information was not competent enough to question me. read more

Okay this is for laboratory...:( first when they hire for lab tec they ask for two years blood draw experience.. are you kidding me lab tec who draw a blood for me end up giving me huge bruise on my arm and swallon when I call them.. They took my number and the supervisor called me telling me ya it happen once in year.. And that's me:( She was telling I am supposed to tell them use butterfly needle.. I just returned from my first time at the Medford location, and my experience was first rate. I was a little hesitant based on the negative reviews, but I have to say that either those people had very high expectations or they were full of something odorous, because I found the administrative and medical staff to be first class professionals who were courteous, personable, and also thoroughly professional. The facility is clean, well-lit, and has an attached parking garage that is free of charge. My only complaint is that the elevator was difficult to locate. tl;dr- I had a great first-time experience at the Medford location; the negative reviews are from people who might be entitled fools. read more

Terrible... after transferring my care from MGH to Harvard Vanguard I realize what a joke this organization is... I had major spinal surgery and they wouldn't allow me to see a doctor... My after surgical care could have been better performed by an elementary school... Three visits and I still haven't seen a doctor... I was sent to the downtown (Kenmore Square) location for a postop visit with their spinal surgeon after waiting for my appointment for five weeks. Instead of seeing anybody who knew anything about my condition I saw a physicians assistant, who was very nice, but didn't know anything about what I should be doing. After A few phone calls and being on hold for 45 minutes to an hour combined I was told they didn't have anybody qualified to look at my back. Information that may have been more useful to me five weeks ago when I first made this appointment... just a billing factory that will keep you coming in unnecessarily in order to charge insurance companies... read more

I know individual circumstances are not applied the same across the board. I'm giving 5 stars for my treatment at Harvard Vanguard, primarily in Medford, but my care has been consistently 5 star at the Kenmore and Cambridge locations too. I have more issues than China has exports, and I am happy, in some cases dumbfounded, by the sincere thoughtful care I receive. That's my overall experience, but nobody's perfect and I have had some individuals I did not "click" with. I'm sure they were all excellent providers for the patients they saw, but not the right fit for me. I just asked (said) I would like to see someone else until I was comfortable with someone. That has only happened a few times over the many, many, years I've gone to HV. I've also been referred outside Harvard Vanguard whenever necessary, and a couple of times I wanted it. My formula, have a legitimate reason (subjective reasoning is OK if it's legitimate), be steadfast, and act like a 5 year old who wants something. I have a 100% success rate. If you had a 5 year old - give or take a few years - you get it. Most importantly, find the care you need, in Harvard Vanguard, or elsewhere. In my case, I have providers I would follow if they went elsewhere (local enough elsewhere,) and have Harvard V for everything else. We're lucky to live in this area for medical care, with excellent care widely available, and I'm getting mine at Harvard Vanguard. Good luck and happy health. read more

This is a well-care business, not a sick-care business. They are fine if you need an appointment for your specialist in 9 months and all your tests are basically normal. If you have an acute issue, don't expect an appointment this month. Staff on the phone are dismissive, they all say, "well, our specialists are always booked, so we refer you back to your primary care doctor." The PCP is also always booked, so when you ACTUALLY need a doctor for a problem, you see an NP or PA who doesn't know you, has limited experience, and refers you to someone else. Each appointment takes time and money ($25-$40 co-pay depending on insurance). Simple issues often take 2 or more appointments, referrals, insurance mishaps, and worst of all, more illness time and pain. The state of health care in Massachusetts is at crisis point anyway thanks to the mandate, meaning there simply aren't enough doctors. So you're left with urgent care (who patch you up and send you on your way) or waiting for cancellations or cajoling with nursing staff to get "squeezed in." I use these folks for the convenience, but they are not my first choice for health care. read more

Two stars for two things I like about Harvard Vanguard Medical my daughters Pediatrician and The doctor who gives the kids their shots (Charlie). Other than these two people I have had bad experiences here. For my daughters first x-ray I was treated like an idiot when I asked if she should have a lead apron. Another time we visited and were told she needed a shot. Usually Charlie gives the shots this time another person did and she was awful. She was rude and would not listen to me when I asked to wait a minute so I could calm my child down. The experience left me feeling like a horrible parent as well as angry and hurt. My own doctor at Harvard Vanguard seems completely clueless. I always wait for her for at least a half hour. She always apologizes which should make me feel better but it does not since it happens every time I have to see her. She comes off as unprofessional and un-knowledgeable. I was telling a friend of mine how I dislike my doctor and she said she did not like hers either. I asked who she went to and low and behold it was the same Doctor. Currently I am in-search of a new General MD. We will be returning to Harvard Vanguard only for my daughters pediatric appointments. read more

Been coming here my entire life and today THEY called me, put me on hold, transferred me to the COVID center, transferred me back to the nurse and then AGAIN to COVID center. In between all this time I had been on hold for a total of 45 minutes. And the last person I spoke with in the COVID center was rude, and completely unhelpful saying things such as "we never called you" and "obviously nobody has been documenting your information. Super unprofessional and saddens me to see after coming here my entire life. read more

Went in for a chest X-ray and found Pneumonia.. two weeks later Harvard Vanguard never documented any of it in my medical records. Thank you. The so called specialists at the HMO are gone within a year and you have to start all over with another. So if I could give you no stars I would. If you are leaving the Medford office after closing with a wheelchair at the end of the days.. the doors have to open manually. Great. When I call them I get the "We'll call you back" line and they never do. Thank you for the horrible experience. read more

My last visit was so incredibly disappointing. I'd give this rating just 1 star for the visit, but overall, my experience has been mostly positive with Harvard Vanguard (the one in Watertown is awesome - people there are SO much nicer overall (from the pharmacist to the receptionist to the nurses/doctors). So I am feeling ill and ended up going in for an urgent care visit. The medical assistant who took my vitals was nice. I got scheduled to see Ken Plummer (a Physician's Assistant) - I will never return to see him again, especially since the way he felt was not only repeated from the first time I saw him, but worse this time around. Again, I felt super rushed. I saw him for maybe less than 4 minutes, and I still had several questions, but in the middle of me asking, he tells me he has to go. Like, what? Did he really just say that? I look confused obviously... and he tells me that he just got called to a "rapid response" in the lab, which is totally fine - there are others with more urgent needs, but he doesn't apologize, doesn't offer to come back as soon as he's done, and just tries to run out the door. The last question I asked was about the level of office visit he'd be coding. He tells me it'd be a 99203, which I know is not right. If anything, my visit of low complexity and low severity would be a 99202 - AND he spent less than 5 minutes with me. He agreed a 99202 would be fine. The definition of a level 3 visit is: Office or other outpatient visit for the evaluation and management of a new patient, which requires these three components: A detailed history; A detailed examination; Medical decision making of low complexity. Counseling and/or coordination of care with other providers or agencies are provided consistent with the nature of the problem(s) and the patient's and/or family's needs. Usually, the presenting problem(s) are of moderate severity. Physicians typically spend 30 minutes face-to-face with the patient and/or family. I bring my script to the pharmacy still shocked and confused and realized he never even checked my throat (I told the MA that my throat started hurting too), and had other questions. She seemed disappointed that he hadn't been more thorough and was apologetic (thank goodness for her) I stayed for another 45 minutes waiting for him to come back to ask him the other questions I had. He made me feel dumb for asking these additional questions too. I have never felt so disrespected and belittled at a medical visit. I can't believe I finally witnessed the exact opposite of what healthcare providers should be like. On top of all this? I paid for the visit myself because I didn't have health insurance at the time. Unbelievable. It's upsetting that someone in healthcare would treat their patients this way. read more

As far as doctors offices go, this is about as good as it gets. They are big enough that most things are done on site and if they don't have it at that location, it is very easy to get referred to another Harvard Vanguard close by. The staff is friendly, and are fairly helpful - you just have to keep asking questions because they don't exactly offer up any information. The facility is currently under renovation - so the interior should get a much needed face lift. Also - free parking which is a plus. read more

Started out great, but after a few visits I realized the workers had no ability to be nice to the patients. One visit included several outright rude and hurtful statements from the physician's assistant. Too many pathetic visits that led to no help to discuss. The real winner was just last week: Called to get an appt with podiatry; was told that dept could not help I needed to call the Somerville office. Called Somerville office: podiatry requires referal told to call pcp. Called PCP at Medford: I need orthopedics not podiatry according to the receptionist and I can have an appt on Thursday. Show up for appt on thursday: Check-in informs me that I don't have an appt, my appt was made for the end of the next month by accident. After a bunch of running up and down stairs, the PCP nurse agrees to triage me. Triage nurse has no idea about my condition, more run around. Finally given a referral. When I finally go to orthopedics the Dr was just as rude and gave me a referral to podiatry because they are more capable of helping me. The only time I received any help from anyone at this office was when I had a blatantly obvious ear infection. They do not listen, do not care, and have a monopoly on health care in this area. read more

Been coming here for almost 2 years now between OBGYN and pediatrics they have the best doctors. I had Dr.Meade, and Dr.Spang when I was pregnant they were both so amazing highly recommend them both, they were so caring and so helpful with all my questions as a first time mom. When I went into labor Dr.Steffanson delivered my daughter and I absolutely LOVE her she made you feel so comfortable and not scared at all she was so helpful and I couldn't of asked for anyone better to deliver my daughter! My daughters doctor is Dr. Zabik and she is absolutely amazing and my daughter loves her and isn't even scared of going to the doctors!! Highly recommend this office. read more

Love that x-rays & rx are available in the same building. So practical! Specialists are typically in Somerville which is fine. Parking garage makes it easier too. read more

This location is my go-to for PCP care. The building is easy to enter and exit, they have a large parking garage which is free. Haven't had a problem with any staff or medical professionals I have seen. In addition to seeing my PCP I have used the pharmacy and lab downstairs with ease. Registration can move slowly sometimes as I've never seen more than 3 receptionists at the front desk. read more

I hate the fact that I need to go to this place. It actually makes me cringe. The ladies that check you in at the first desk are the only pleasant thing about this place. Multiple offices in this place are unorganized, dont call back, leave you waiting for long periods of time and then act like you were rude for being there. It is an uncomfortable atmosphere with clear signs that it is understaffed, as well as lacking in even mediocre doctors. Please avoid at all costs. The doctors and medical staff are like sharks ready to perform dozens of unnecessary tests just because you have insurance- regardless of your physical and emotional pain. They see medicine as pure business. You live close to Boston, which has the best doctors and medical staff in the world. Please don't waste your time with Harvard Vanguard. Medical staff members are butchers. Absolutely terrible. Please avoid the ob-gyn section at all costs. While I was miscarrying my baby they performed a paps test and an hpv test, both of which were unnecessary. They only told me they were doing a paps test, but I checked my insurance and had an hpv done as well. I was never made aware of that. It was terribly painful. They couldn't care less about your wellbeing, as written by other reviewers. All they want is your money. I wish I could give this place less than 1 star. Should be closed down. read more
