Very similar in style to Kent station but a little different. Auburn has a bit more immediate highway access here with 18 nearby. The station is pretty decently clean compared to others. I'm not exactly what contributes to that as the security and staffing seem similar. The layout seems wasteful for the space it takes up downtown, but maybe that is what they were going for when they built it?

Great thing there are orca vending machines

I can go from SHORELINE to Sea tag on the number one light rail, which is great and super easy for me and saving gas. My friend told me that we were gonna catch the light rail to go to Lumen Field for the Seahawks football game, and he also mentioned to me that we could also stop by Pike Place Market to "holo-holo", as the light rail would take us all the way to where we needed to go. I guess the light rail system has been used in Seattle for sometime now, as I could see there were lots of rail stations throughout the city. The station that we used to get onto the rail was the - Angle Lake Station, because it was the closest station in proximity to where my friend lived. The Angle Lake Station had a very large parking garage. After parking our car, it was a breeze to get onto the light rail & make our way to Pike Place Market, as well as Lumen Field. I can see how effective it is when light rail is built, & utilized properly. It certainly saved us a lot of money in the sense that we didn't have to look for parking while attending the Seahawks game, as I saw some parking places charging like $90.00 for game day parking. More rail stations are still being constructed, and my friend said he couldn't wait till the rail station in Federal Way is finished.

It may have been a random fluke, however, my first experience was a disaster at best. After riding 2 stops on the 1 Line, we were all instructed to get off at Ranier Beach stop as there was some sort of police activity prohibiting us from riding further and we at this point were asked to cross the street and wait for a shuttle. About 10 min later, a shuttle arrived however not everyone could fit so this shuttle was jam packed with people! We were told that this shuttle would take us to the Columbia City station and from there, the 1 Line would resume. As it was traffic hour when this all happened, shuttle was slow moving, so probably another 20-30 min later, we arrived. A train was waiting for us and after that detour, the ride was smooth all the way to my destination. I made the mistake of getting off one stop before I intended, so that added another 10min to trip, completely my own stupid fault. So a trip from the airport that should have taken a little under an hour took close to 2 hours for me. Was an interesting experience and for $3, I really shouldn't complain. I also saved my company $100 but also wasted 90min on public transit. And time is money. I think this might have just been a little bad luck and a less frequent occurrence, but it definitely made me not want to take this form of transit ever again. They do get one star because when I mapped it out on Google maps, there was clear warning there was a delay and detour. It was just my poor choice to take a chance and see what happens. However, if the opportunity presents itself again and there were no issues with the Link light rail, I might consider this option again.

This long stretch of rail along I-5 reminds me of the MAX Green Line in Portland which goes along I-205. This spot used to be the Star Lake Park & Ride lot. Nothing much going on around this station in terms of retail and restaurants. I had some friends who used to live in this area. It's just a bedroom community. The surrounding areas have undergone significant improvements to accommodate this station. Even though it's not packed yet--it only opened on Saturday, 12/6/25--it feels great to have something like this. The entrance to the rail station is open and well-lit, and welcoming. The parking structure has three levels. On the other side of the garage is accessible parking and a few designated spots for passenger pick-up and drop-off. A well-thought-out design. Sunday night was my first trip out from this station, and there weren't many people, however, the presence of a sheriff at the entrance provided a sense of security. On my return trip at 6:15 a.m. on Monday morning, the station was pretty quiet and not as busy as I thought it would be, especially for the weekday commute. The transit security personnel patrolling the area further enhanced my sense of safety. I'm hoping more people will start using public transportation at this station.

3 new light rail stations just opened up in the South End…read more The Kent Des Moines light rail station is right off Pac Hwy and close to the I-5 ramps. It's up the hill from the Des Moines Marina and up the hill from the Kent Transit Center and ShoWare Center. It's 2 stops away from Sea-Tac Airport so it's a good place to drop off friends and family here as long as they can manage their luggage. Kent remains a car centric city though. It still lacks all-day express buses to and from Seattle and the Sounder train is super flaky. Sure, taking the Sounder is the quickest way to get into Seattle but commuters might opt for the light rail due to scheduling and reliability reasons. People still need to get to work, school, appointments, lectures, and meetings at all times of the day. Also, if this station keeps cars off I-5, it's a win for the environment. Cleaner air for the Puget Sound region? Yes, please. No transit fare gates here. Payment is on the honor system. Security is inconsistent. Sometimes they'll do something about sus characters & sleepers and sometimes they won't. If you notice sketch activity, have the Sound Transit security number saved on your phone or move to another car if you have to. Use your best judgement. Kind of weird they don't have a pedestrian overpass to Highline College. Seattle has overpasses on Aurora at 102nd and 130th. Bellevue has the NE 8th Street Pedestrian bridge at the Wilburton light rail station. Hopefully the traffic light cycle favors pedestrians at the crosswalk. I could see people running across lanes of traffic because they're late to class. If you're a student or faculty member, just be aware of erratic drivers on Pac Hwy. They also have public restrooms at this station.
