I really wanted to like this place. They have creative and good drinks and the beer is good and cold. However the menu fails to adequately describe the dishes that are served. There is a spicy relish and vegetables covered in a vinegar sauce on the sandwiches that is not mentioned what so ever. I paid for a sandwich I could not eat. I then tried to ordered a quesadilla and was informed that all of the quesadillas have jalapeños in the cheese that ALSO is not mentioned on the menu. So, desperate for anything I could eat, I ordered yet another entree and waited 30 minutes just to get something other than I ordered. After that the server tried to convince me that the thing they brought me with an ingredient I detest was indeed what I ordered. Trivia was great. My dining partner really enjoyed several different cold beers. But dining was a fail. Then to top all that off someone I had not even spoken to at the restaurant came over and yelled at me for this review. Not "I'm sorry you had a less than optimal experience at my establishment" but "how dare you leave me a two star review after I LET you have a table". Again I wanted to like this place. It's cute, the drinks are creative, the beers are good tasting and cold. But I NEED to eat as well as drink. Between the inadequate descriptions on the menu and the nasty treatment by the owner who seemed to think we should have been grateful for a table I cannot recommend spending time here. read more

First time here and came for trivia night! Drinks: Beer- good and large selection on tap! Coffee- very good! Liked that they offer coffee now! I guess it's pretty new as they are starting to offer brunch! Service: The owner helped me to find two seats at the bar since it was packed for trivia night. Great meetup place. Our group of friends enjoyed many fresh brews including the delicious Black Forest imperial stout and hoppy IPAs Conviction and Thirsty Works. Pretty good actually 2.75/5 Raito - surprisingly good grilled cheese, wish it was warmer but the blend is nice 3/5 Minnesota - more of a standard not so great grilled cheese but good with drinks. 2.25/5 Fries upgrade was worth but not that great of fries. We stopped by after visiting another spot nearby with friends, and we'd been meaning to check this place out for a while. My husband and I loved their expansive tap list. The bartenders were incredibly welcoming, noticing we weren't from the area (covered in Maryland swag, haha) and immediately chatting with us about their ales. They offered IPA samples so we could try before we bought, which was such a nice touch. Fun signage made it easy to see all the options, and everything we tried tasted just as good as it sounded! We just had the strangest interaction here that totally killed the vibe. We won't be back and I do not and will never recommend this place to anyone. We had been coming here for Tuesday trivia on a weekly basis. They used to let you bring outside food but said that was no longer allowed at the end of August. OK, not as fun but totally understandable. We respected this and followed their rules. There's an $8 minimum per person for trivia. If you're a non-drinker that means getting charged $8 for a soda - again, a little annoying but not a deal-breaker. Today, the general manager and assistant manager decide to target our table for whatever reason. They first pointedly told us there's an $8 minimum per person before trivia even started (OK great, half of us had drinks and the other half was waiting for the line to die down). Then, they pulled a random person from our group (who had already bought a beer) to ask him to tell the rest of the table we all needed to buy drinks or apps (again this is before trivia even started!). He then came back to our table to tell us that he expected our minimum spend to be $70. Has anyone ever had a restaurant manager talk to them in this way? I've never EVER encountered this. I have no problem understanding a business needs to make money, but this approach was incredibly rude and demeaning. What customer wants to be treated like that? The hilarious thing is we asked if he wanted our collective spend receipts for the past few weeks we've been here (which we've hit his "minimum spend" every week). We promptly left. I hope this review serves as a warning that if you're looking for a fun and chill trivia night (or place to hang out) this ain't it. EDIT: Oh wow, everyone read Brian the owner/managers response to Mimi's 1-star review (it literally says he wants you to). Honestly, when I see owner responses like that on Yelp, it's a big YIKES. The sarcasm? The name-calling? I find that when a business resorts to acting like this...it's a bad sign. read more

A group of us were coming here pretty consistently for a few months for trivia Tuesday and tonight will be the last time we step foot in this establishment. The owner (Brian) and assistant manager decided to target our table (of minorities) about the $8 beverage fee per person to play trivia... which we always end up spending each week. When we asked for clarification, he then said he wanted our table of 7 to spend $70... which tells me Brian also cannot do basic math because 8x7=56. Totally understandable that he's trying to make money from his business but there are more graceful ways to go about this. He then blamed it on "his staff," stating that his staff "is unhappy they're not making any money." Maybe consider paying your staff appropriately, Brian. The bartenders Harrison and Erika were great, wish them the best!! read more

Food was underwhelming. Owners and management should focus on quality. Most breweries are associated with good food. I wouldn't consider this one of them. Extremely disappointing. Also from a service perspective I don't believe they care about the customers. There was virtually no follow up during our time there. If you're looking for a brewery there are many far better than this one. Word of advice find a different one and avoid the disappointment. read more

I've been to this Audacious Aleworks several times and usually enjoy the drinks and atmosphere during their trivia night. However, during my last visit, I was lectured on their need for me to "spend more money" and acted like he did me a favor because he seated me in "prime real estate". It was suggested we order food, but unfortunately I no longer do -- I've tried it in the past and it wasn't good. It's disappointing to feel pressured to spend beyond what's reasonable, especially when we were already supporting the business. As I mentioned to the owner, I have attached my statement that supports my consistent spending, which is VERY UNORTHODOX but truly just insulting to be asked to defend. NOTE: this spending is only my personal tab and does not include the rest of my table. As a fellow small business owner, I understand the frustration when your business plan does not pan out as projected and you're financially on the hook for everything. Generally the winning strategy is have a better product. In this case, if you want me to buy food, have better food. Beers are pretty good though, keep it up. read more

My husband stopped in on a Saturday for a quick bite and to enjoy a beer. We really enjoyed the diversity of beers listed on the menu and look forward to the upcoming seasonal beers. My husband got a flight following the recommendations from the very friendly staff. We really liked the different grilled cheese sandwich options. We ordered a soft pretzel to share which was subpar. I expect the food craft breweries to rise to the same level as the beer, so I was disappointed when we were served a mediocre, pre-frozen pretzel that tasted bland. I would recommend upgrading the pretzels. Also, the offerings listed on the website don't match what is offered in the brewery. A review and update is needed. Otherwise we had a great experience and enjoyed the friendly, helpful staff and fun artwork. read more

Brian and Diane and Jugo were all lovely and the fact that they don't change for large parties makes this a rarity in Fairfax. A fun and carefree spot for my Daughter in Law's after graduation celebration. All types of beer, hard seltzers and even slushie's available. They have a menu of food available but allowed us to bring in light snacks as well. A play area for kids in the back made it easy for Parents to come out and join in the fun. The atmosphere was playful and happy. I met the owner and he was very kind and appreciative. Another place I will visit again when I am in Northern Virginia. Three 65+ year old men walk, with difficulty, into the room. One has had 3 strokes, another a heart attack and a stroke and the 3rd (me) with a very bad back and needing a knee replacement. There are 3 people sitting at the bar. We seat ourselves at a table and look at the choices on the menus. Then... The late 20s to early 30s bartender informs us that we have to get out of our seat and walk over to him in order to borrow order our beers. The three of us looked at each other stood up and walked out of the place never to return. WTF is the matter with the service industry? You want to charge me $9 for a beer and I have to all the work? The French fries and hush puppies were good. They were delivered from Red Hot and Blue a few doors down. The complimentary popcorn tasted stale, and after receiving a new batch, about half of the popcorn still tasted stale. Service is a hit or miss. One server gave off the impression that she had completely checked out. The establishment is welcoming of all people. The bathroom reminded me of one you'd find at a crowded, dark bar. So we just moved to Fairfax city and we've tried a couple restaurants and they've all been really good but we walked into this one three of us and we were gonna spend two or three hours drinking some beers, but the bartender wouldn't come behind the bar from behind the bar and Service and his attitude was no you have to come over here. Love this place. First off a big thank you to the friendly staff. Also glad a Patriots fans on the employee list here. If you want a genuine staff and good folks around you, there are less of the fakes and flakes at this spot. No snobbery either which NOVA is known for. I dig this atmosphere, and will absolutely be back. It is going through a soft opening, and may move up to five stars which is rare for this man. The wild berry beer is delicious. Sounds strange but give it a try. Also the Hefeweizen is very tasty. The food for the price, I like the brats with chips. Hoping for French fries eventually, maybe burgers, but even this menu is quite good. As a government employee I'm not loaded, so like value and fun ay same time. Will be back for trivia night. The Smooth Airline from Audacious Aleworks is just the beginning of the wide range of fare that this brewery has to share. The second of this establishment, it has a problem with its WiFi signal getting interpreted correctly by the Internet industry. (This is a problem is a problem for a number of breweries in the area of US 50, US 29 and VA 236!) The service is rather limited, but the brewery is quite good. Love the original location in Falls Church, but having moved to Fairfax we haven't been back. So exciting that they opened a new location close by! Great beer selection (especially love the Thirsty Work IPA). Only thing I'd say about the beers is that I wish they'd add a Hefeweizen or wheat beer option. Small but appealing food menu- we tried the beer brat and it was delicious! Love the free popcorn as well. Music and ambience were on point. Would have given 5 stars if they allow dogs inside, but I guess that's a Fairfax thing. Love a good brewery that allows dogs. Regardless, we will definitely be back! read more
