We stopped by Lake Anne Brew House after our first trip to the Lake Reston Farmer's Market (love this whole area--super charming!). Nothing caps off a market morning like a fresh, craft beer, right? The cozy bar area was the perfect spot to meet up with a friend. I made a beeline for the North Shore IPA, a citrusy, hazy gem that tasted like the best way to start any day. A true breakfast beer! After that, I tried the porter on tap, which was rich and smooth. I'm definitely coming back for the Reston Red--sadly, they were out this time! Look, anyone can make a great hazy or a hopped up IPA. All those add-ins and crazy concoctions (which I enjoy, don't get me wrong) cover up any impurities in the beer. It takes a great brewer to make a traditional style shine and the brewer at Lake Anne is a master craftsman (in my humble, uneducated except on taste buds and absolute zero credentials to make such an assertion opinion). Though I don't love all the styles they brew... *cough* barleywine *cough*...I do enjoy most of them. The lagers are clear and malty. Their ales strike a good hoppy balance and when you order a Pilsner, it tastes like a Pilsner. AND. I. LOVE. a good pilsner!!! Seriously... breweries, make me more Pilsners and Bocks and Helles! A hidden gem of Reston, Lake Anne Brew House is a great spot for a casual gathering with friends or colleagues. The selection of beers is fairly wide for a local brew house (I highly recommend the Wanderlust). There's also snack food such as pretzels, pretzel dogs and different snack boxes. The pretzels are known as the "Nordic-Knot" and are a great paring with the beer options. I have not had the pretzel dog as they only have a few per shift and sell out very quickly but I look forward to trying one during my next visit! They also serve kombucha for those who may not enjoy beer. The Brew House has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a fantastic view of Lake Anne. The outdoor seating area is even dog friendly. The staff are very friendly and helpful (especially if you're stuck picking between two drinks). This is a great place but small but the beer is made on Prem and the service is great. Small is a good change from the massive chain restaurants where the noise is loud. You have to order your own beer as there is no table service but that's ok. If it's nice weather you can sit outside and enjoy the view of Lake Anne. I always order the IPA which is outstanding. A great little find right off the Lake Anne complex. There are several small seating areas plus an outdoor terrace and small bar area. The service was very friendly, as were the regulars who were more than happy for a quick hello and conversation. As for the beer, I tried a pale ale that was quite good, and a smoky ale that was certainly different but not my favorite. They do offer some snacks- the pretzel from Nordic Knot with the cheese dipping sauce was a perfect accompaniment to the beers. I was a little surprised by the hours- they are only open till 9pm. We didn't realize that they were even closing until we realized we were the last ones there, but they were very nice about it and didn't rush us out the door at all. Possibly one of the most exciting upgrades to Lake Anne in the past few years. LABH is woman owned and totally awesome. They have great beers, many of which have names that call out super local flavor (think: Live Work Play IPA). Let's just say Bob Simon would have been a fan of this place. In addition to beer, they have many thoughtful non alcoholic options, including a rotating kombucha tap and kombucha bottles, and cans of Athletic beer. As far as food goes, they have Nordic knots (read: addictive, if pricey, pretzels), and charcuterie from The Fermented Pig. The atmosphere can't be beat--they are right on the lake! There is also a ramp going up to LABH, so it's accessible to patrons in wheelchairs and also with strollers. For COVID, they have extensive outdoor seating and staff wear masks. They even have a sign in the bathroom showing choruses you can sing in head to wash your hands the appropriate amount of time. (I picked "Lose Yourself," but next time I'll probably go with "Jolene.") read more

If I lived near this brewery, I'd be here all the time. This place is tucked into the first floor of a pretty nondescript multiuse community. Businesses on the bottom and two stories of apartments above. There is some indoor seating though it seemed like a lot more seating available outside. I sat by myself and enjoyed a new town funk and blister in the sun-both German style beers with good flavors. The pretzel was perfection-first off, it was massive and also lightly salted dark on the outside, chewy inside. Depending on your hunger level you could probably split one between two people. I have had poor luck with restaurants/eateries in the Lake Anne Plaza. I am glad to have found the Brew House. The outdoor patio provides the perfect atmosphere to soak in the sun and enjoy the lakefront. While basking in this, one can enjoy light snacks like the pretzel I ordered. It was average but did the job for hanging out with friends and grabbing a drink. The beer on tap can change but it offers a wide variety for such a small list. My favorite drink might have been the collaboration beer that went to help the local community. This place is a hidden gem! I had no idea the Lake Anne community existed. It's so cool...restaurants, shops, and Lake Anne Brew House! I tried a flight of Heron House Hefeweizen, Silver Line Saison, Reston Red, and Mango Summer Strong Ale. They were all great! Very creative and very good taste. You can tell this brewery takes a lot of pride in what they do. A hint for Apple Map users...don't follow the map directions. It will out you in the middle of a neighborhood. I'd never been to Lake Anne plaza before which looks like a bunch of concrete mid century apartments/dorm rooms in a wooded area that encompasses a lake in the middle. I finally had a chance to try out the Lake Anne Brew House last week. It's close to my office - so I came over one Thursday afternoon after work to try out their brews. I ordered a full flight - 8 brews in all: Lake Anne Skinny Dip (Kolsch) (5.2% ABV) Reston Red (Amber Ale) (5.2% ABV) Live-Work-Play IPA (6.6% ABV) Lord Fairfax English Pale Ale (5.5% ABV) Brown's Chapel Brown Ale (4.1% ABV) Simons Stout (4.6% ABV) Dark & Stormy Shandy Baron Cameron Blueberry Shandy (5.2% ABV) I'm not a fan of Kolsch in general, but this one was pretty good. I could drink a pint on a hot summer day! The star brew out of all of them was the Live-Work-Play IPA - it is an excellent IPA - nice balance of floral and citrus, with a bit of hoppiness and a delicious, crisp, bitter finish! Simons Stout was also enjoyable. Not really a fan of other brews, but I do always enjoy the experience of trying new brews - even if I won't be drinking a pint of it! The place filled rapidly on a Thursday afternoon. As soon as they opened at 4:00 pm, folks were lining up to get in. We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the nice weather. My friend attempted to buy a growler of the Live-Work-Play IPA to take home - but was told they keep running out of beer before the weekend is over - so for now, they are suspending filling Growlers. Lake Anne is small even by micro-brewery standards. It's also unusual in that the tasting room is in a mixed-use residential area, in a row of buildings near a pier on the shore of Lake Anne. Keep in mind that 11424 Washington Plaza is NOT their physical address; it's actually the next property over! Because of space limitations, they only have a 2-barrel system. This keeps production down to only 5 or so beers on tap, 4 of which are flagship. None are overly experimental, although that's not a bad thing. They must get a lot of locals who are looking for a few beers and a view of the lake. What I tried: Simon's Stout: Very much like a fresh Guinness; my favorite of the lineup Brown Ale: Little sweet, but not in a bad way Live-Work-Play IPA: Actually not very hoppy at all, especially by IPA standards Reston Red: I almost got this confused with their IPA, because of it's hoppyness. I'd drink it but wasn't my favorite. I probably came at a bad time since they'd been out of the Kolsch and another beer for over a week; since they have such low production it takes a while to replenish the fast-sellers. Popular spot to hang out either indoors in the various indoor table, bar or sofa seating areas or out on the deck overlooking Lake Anne and the plaza. In addition to several varieties of beer, which can be tasted in flights, they also make other carbonated drinks, such as kombucha and different flavors of soda flavored with syrups. Light snack items such as chips and goldfish are available. But don't miss the amazing fresh-baked Nordic Knots pretzels baked (by the same owners in a bakery two doors down. Patrons are encouraged to bring or order in other food. Beer, which is brewed on the premises, is also available for takeout in various sizes of growlers. We find a growler stays fresh and foamy for several days in our fridge. Sometimes there is a short line to order but it's worth the wait! read more

After the grand opening where you had to wait in line like 30 minutes to get a beer, things have thankfully calmed down here. The beer is good, but the setting is what makes this place as you can look out on the lake from the patio. If you've never been to this hidden area, you will really love it the first time. The indoor section itself is smaller than a 1 bedroom apartment, but the patio is the reason to go to a place like this. I'm pretty sure this was started by at least 1 person from the local home brewer club, which means it is people who like beer not people looking for a tax break or to jump on the trend of opening a brewery. Worth supporting. While the lake is neat and a welcoming change from your traditional office park brewery, the location is also a detriment. People don't often come to this area. I lived in the area forever and only recently discovered Lake Anne. Not much going on here except for the retirement community. Typically something has to happen to bump one of the million breweries up from 3 stars. In this case it is the atmosphere & the setting. You definitely want to check it out at least once. read more

An awesome brewery right at the heart of Lake Anne and Old Reston. It's quaint, bright, full of beer (what can be better) and is the complete opposite of Reston town center's hustle. I went with a big group and the outside seating was pretty packed on a beautiful day. We had seating indoors but it is on the smaller side so big groups might want to call ahead. They brew right in reston have some delicious beer selection. I really enjoyed their Oktoberfest beer and the Lord Fairfax pale ale. Their pretzels also pair perfectly with beer! A big shout out to the friendly staff and especially Jenny for taking care of us so well. This is definitely a favorite of mine and it's nice to sit back and relax at such a peaceful area with great beer. Would highly recommend checking this place out. read more

I thought Lake Anne Brew House was delightful. First off, the location is relaxing and very pleasant. The community off of Lake Anne has a rich history with a lot of architectural and urban planning significance. That brunch said, the live/work/play vibe of the multi use development is still felt after so many years. Lake Anne Brew House defintely adds to the atmosphere. I went for a happy hour with colleagues from work and we all enjoyed our experience. They have$1 of all beers on Thursdays so our group partook. I had a kombucha shandy which was something I had never tried before and really enjoyed. I also had the Lord Fairfax English Pale Ale, yum. We all also snacked on soft pretzels and Moon cheese. The atmosphere is relaxed and the seating is very comfortable. The patio and interior are small so o can imagine it would get crowded quickly on a nice day. The outdoor deck overlooking the lake was delightful. It offers a nice view of the lake and shopping area. There was some activity on the lake involving canoes, kayaks, and paddle boats and plenty of shoppers and walkers on the sidewalk in front of the deck. They have a selection of some non-alcoholic beverages for the non-beer drinkers. The food selection is pretty much limited to snacks such as nuts and crackers. Went here a while ago and had a great experience. First of all, the ladies behind the counter were so nice and friendly. Explained absolutely everything to us and talked to us throughout the night like family. Beer is brewed right in the back of the public brewery. Beer selection was about 8 on tap. The nitro coffee and kombucha on tap was a great addition! There was the option to mix the stout beer with the nitro coffee, suggested by the ladies behind the bar, which was incredible. Had the ability to try things without committing to a full beer too. The building was cozy, tucked away by the lake. The brewery was small and intimate but had plenty of seating inside and out. Great nano brewery with a fine selection of beers from IPA to stout. A smallish space that works well as it spills out onto the porch. We were there on a Friday night; it was popular but not too crowded. Profiteers with a sense of humor (see bathroom walls), and the pretzels we had heard about were spot on. That's the extent of their food menu but it was perfect for this establishment. Great place for socializing with a beer, especially as a precursor to the restaurants in the same area. We were in the area and decided to try Lake Anne Brew House on a whim. It's a relatively new microbrewery in the area. We got a little confused on the address; we soon learned the address on google only brings you to the back of the building which isn't number. But we found the company car and figured we weren't too far away. The brewery is located within the Lake Anne community which is built around the lake. It's a small brewery but they were able to fit a fair amount of seating, including an outdoor patio area. Inside, we were greeted friendly staff who explained their beer and their story. We both decided to do a full tasting. They had five beers currently on tap when we visited. We tried the Concrete Blonde American Ale, Lord Fairfax English Pale Ale, Brown's Chapel Brown Ale, Live-Work-Play IPA, and a Stout. I was pleasantly surprised by the beers Lake Anne offered. My favorites were the Brown's Chapel Brown Ale and the Blonde Ale. I thought these beers were smooth and easy to drink. The staff was friendly and engaged us in conversation. October 2018. Three out of five. We stopped here after having tasted a couple varieties of their beer at a local beer fest. The location is interesting in that it's part of a Waterside community in Reston. The beer is fine but not exceptional. It struck me as a solid Community hang out more so then a focused beer manufacturer. There were no problems with the beer but there was nothing particularly inspiring either. I went to Lake Anne Brew House on 10/7/18 while exploring the area. The ambiance of this brewery is very nice. They have an outdoor patio overlooking the water. It would be a great place on a nice day to meet a friend for a drink. However I would not recommend this craft brewery for small children. In contrast to other craft breweries in the area that have large open spaces Lake Anne is smaller. They offers a full flight which is nice. I got to try a variety of beers. My favorite was their Reston Red. I can see why Lake Anne Brew House offers specials for individuals who work from home during the week. The brewery reminded me a little of the vibe you might get a coffee house. I really want to come back and try their nitro coffee. WOW what a breath of fresh air for Lake Ann. The location is fantastic, the interior is clean and inviting as well as the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The beer is exactly what you want in a microbrew. I will be frequenting this spot for years to come. Currently my favorite was the Brown's Chapel Brown Ale. I wanted to give the IPA a shot, as IPAs are my go to for beer. Sadly however this place brews and once it's gone, it's gone. Best time to come by would be Saturday during the day, that way you have a chance to try all the beers. As far as food is concerned, it's supplied by the local restaurants. IE. you order and someone sends a running to pick up the food. Doesn't take as long as you'd imagine. They carry some things on hand. We had a pretzel, it was good for what it was.
