Five years ago, I was quoted almost $1,000 to change a $5 watch battery in my remote, and it is clear that things still haven't changed at the new location. I was recently quoted over $10,000 for parts and labor that I ended up purchasing and installing myself for $500. I have no special training or equipment, yet I was able to do the work they tried to overcharge me for. The service department at Flynn's was double-dipping on labor rates. For example, if you are working on the valve cover, you would replace the solenoids while you are already under the hood. Instead, Flynn's quoted this as if each item was a separate job with separate hourly rates, leading to an insanely overinflated price. To put it in perspective, I was quoted over $3,000 for the installation of a valve cover gasket, which is a $30 part. Since that gasket is only $30, I would have paid over $3,100 in labor alone for a part that I installed myself. The estimate didn't even include the actual valve cover. On an M4, it makes no sense to replace just the gasket and not the actual valve cover, especially after I explicitly told the tech my PCV was causing an obvious whine. Perhaps the most frustrating part is that I actually would have considered spending the $10,000 and giving them my loyalty had the customer service been good. However, receiving zero explanation as to why I needed these parts or what they even did--while simultaneously being asked for $10,000--left me with zero interest in spending my money at Flynn's. Due to the predatory pricing and lack of professional communication, I am never stepping foot there again. If you need your BMW serviced, I highly recommend any of the 15 independent shops in Berkshire County that will charge you a fair and honest rate. Or do it yourself like i did and save 9,600 dollars. I will be reporting this to the states attorney General and the better business bureau.
