True professionals! Just installed an amp and needed a subwoofer & enclosure for my prius so I called spoke to Mason about Kicker Solobaric subs since I've owned these in the past and loved them. Decided a 10" was more than enough and decided on a kicker 10L7. Then Mason asked... "2 or 4 OHM?" Having no idea what the difference is... I explained what model amplifier I just installed, and without hesitation... he already knew what I needed. He tried to explain 2 vs 4 ohm but it was like a foreign language so I just nodded in agreement. Mike the owner, stayed past closing time on Saturday so that I can get there to pick up the speaker. I bought my Audi with a system purchased and installed by Audio Design. It sounds great though I was not thrilled that the sub install no longer allowed for a spare tire to fit in the trunk. The system had no problems for the first 18 months when one day it just cut out. I wasn't sure of the issue and had Audi take a look at it when I took it in that week for service. They diagnosed it as an amp issue and that is when I took my car to Audio Design. The shop is conveniently located on Steven's Creek and makes a pretty good first impression. I waited for the owner to finish up a conversation with another customer and looked around noticing that it was a little too cluttered for my taste. Once it was my turn we went outside to take a look at my car. He spent 2 minutes looking at the connections (said he wasn't sure they had hooked it up that way... I told him nothing had changed since I bought it) and told me I would have to bring it back and leave it with him for at least half of a day. He quoted me an hour of labor to start and said it would go up from there depending on the issue. I understand that this would be out of warranty though I saw the receipt for $4,600 the previous owner spent on this stereo and thought he would be willing to at least take some responsibility. Overall I left feeling like this was not the shop for me and that there would be no advantage in taking it to the same shop that did the install. I ended up taking my car to another shop when I was up in the East Bay for work. When they opened up the back of my car to show me my amp and bit10 we could see that everything had been installed with zip ties and duct tape. We simply reset the bit10 and were back in business. The other shop I went to, Seismic Autosound, said they were embarrassed to see good equipment installed that poorly. It made me so thankful I did not take my car back to Audio Sound. YIKES! Be Careful. I spent $2,400 on a new Kenwood DNN991HD. this unit failed to operate under 1 year. Mike the Principal promised to take care of it, and send back to Kenwood for repair. Mike tells me the entire process should take two weeks. 35 days later I call the Kenwood service center, and they tell me that they have not received the unit for repair. I called Mike and he gave me some lame excuse that he was really busy and hadn't sent it out yet. WHAAAAAT! 1 month you've had my Kenwood device, and you didn't send it out for repair. I'm now at day 45, no music, GPS, hands free phone, and the huge inconvenience of having a big hole in my car. Service is terrible, I've been lied to, and I'm still with-out my DNN991HD. "Audio Design" should be ashamed... Do what you said you would do... I do not have any confidence nor will you ever get a good reference from me. Porsche dealership take notice! Kevin read more

The only positive thing I can state about my visit was how cool the owner was.. Now to the negatives.. 1st off my a/c dial didn't turn to the heater side.. So dude busted that.. 2nd my vent (u can c in pix) was broken... 3rd no radio stations came threw so that means dude f'd up the antenna.. 4th the harness broke (Check pix) so now my radio is tilted up and u can see exposed wires .. And lastly when I plugged my iPod onto the USB port, the back of the stereo started to smoke up.. TWICE.. When I took it back the installer said he saw nothing wrong with it... Like I'm f'n lying!! I got witnesses... So all around bad experience... I'm hoping the installer got tossed cuz the place seems like a legit business and manager was cool.... But installer messed my ride up... i guess things woulve went better if my ride was a mecedes or lexus or porsch... read more

The other was a much more complex amp + woofer + full speakers + DSP affair. In both cases, the results were outstanding. This Shop has Great Quality Equipment and very knowledgeable sales people. Last year i purchased two Adixen tweeters for the front panels. My Issue was with the installation. I had them install two tweeters in the front panels and they connected the left side lower than the right side and they left a scratch the panel that i cannot remove. Hidden charges dropped this company from a 5 * review! Great work hard-wiring my dash cam. Was told it would be $85. When I came in to get my car, it cost $90.95. The additional $5.95 was for "parts surcharge". When I asked what parts, since I supplied my own cable, I was told it was for wire, connections, etc. What wire, the one I provided? Anyway, if you go here, ask about that hidden "parts surcharge" on the bill before you commit. It's a percentage of the bill, so the more you spend, the more you will be charged extra! I never saw it posted anywhere in the shop and was surprised at the unwarranted addition. Worst Service I have ever experienced.The first day i get a quote for the job and parts at $80 so i tell him that should be fine. The next day i come back and he tells me now its $140 for the same job and same amount of wires. First off, the job was promised to be finished 2 hours from 11am because i needed my car for work. I call them at 4 pm and they tell me "it wont be done until tomorrow but hey we can park it in front and if anybody breaks into your car in the parking lot we have cameras" . I was only having a single capacitor installed and we agreed on a location for it out of the way . Turns out he thought it would be better somewhere else and didn't even bother to call me before he drilled a hole in the back panel. Didn't even bother to clean up his mess and left dirt and pieces of plastic all over the carpet. DO NOT GO HERE! read more

Awesome experience that left me extremely happy with how my car stereo sounds. Buying audio equipment can be an overwhelming experience, but this is a placed that takes the time to let you know your options, doesn't pressure you into something you may not want, and then does a professional job that has you driving home knowing you made the right choices. I never once felt like a number there - the time was spent to make sure I was getting the sound I wanted and they really went above and beyond what I expected. Speaking with the owner, it was incredibly clear that he knows his business - he understands every piece of equipment, and how it works in conjunction with my particular car. ***DO NOT COME HERE. MIKE IS A LYING POS*** I have the iid in my car and got it installed here. No issues. A few months later my car won't start so we take it to audio design because we thought it was the iid. They run a test on the iid to determine if that's causing it to not start-it wasn't the iid. And the test costs $25. So that means I have to get it towed to the car shop. So when I come to pick up my keys to get my car towed the worker hands me my keys and says, "oh by the way we took out the iid so the car shop won't have a problem working on the car" umm okay... thanks? So I get my car fixed and take it back to audio design to get the iid hooked up again. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $175 FOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION!!!! ANDDD I have to get a new 920 form filled out and SPEND ANOTHER DAY AT DMV TO TURN IT IN! So I'm pissed and telling them I never authorized you to take out the iid, you just handed me my keys and said you took it out for me. Then the worker said "we take out the iid because shops can't run a diagnostic on the car with the iid installed" BULLSHIT! I texted the receptionist of the shop who worked on my car the week before (my car was in the shop for a different reason) and she said no that's not true at all because they ran a diagnostic on the car and there were no issues. Why take out the iid when you ran a test showing it wasn't the iid? **THEY PURPOSELY TAKE OUT YOUR IID SO THEY CAN CHARGE YOU REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION!** So I'm talking to arrogant ass mike and he said, "When we called Lci THEY TOLD US TO TAKE OUT THE IID" and that Lci called me And told me about the charges. So I called Lci and asked them for the call records of that phone call because now I'm pissed. I demanded to know WHO told them to take out the iid and that no one called Me to tell me about the charges. She confirmed That MIKE CALLED THEM AND SIMPLY TOLD THEM "HEY WE TOOK OUT THE IID" LCI NEVER TOLD THEM TO TAKE IT OUT. SO HE COULD LATER CHARGE ME $175. Do not give your money to this establishment and lying sack of shit. Went in on a whim, and got a fair price quote on 6x9 and sub upgrade. I was very particular about the sound i was trying to achieve. Micheal knew exactly what i wanted. He was upfront and honest, i have had bad experiences in the past. Needless to say i was a bit hesitant, but was assured that i would be taken care of if anything should happen. When a business stands by its work 100%, they earn my trust. I had my system installed the next day. The sound was more than what i expected. I had a huge smile when Micheal came out to greet me. I believe my exact words were " Holy Sh*t , this sounds great! " He even offered to tune the amp if I come back after a month or two. He wanted the speakers to settle in. BEWARE!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! ABSOLUTLY HORRIBLE! I had such a horrible experience at Audio Design and was treated with so much disrespect by an individual by the name of Marcos. I ordered a whole set up with mobridge wireless bluetooth connectivity to run in my Bmw 750i with subwoofer and amp. Marcos acted like he didn't value my business from the start giving me snarky remarks and just being plain rude. I still tried to disregard his hostile demeanor and still work with Audio Design any way(huge mistake... i should had seen the red flags). I scheduled an appointment to bring in my car but expressed to schedule me only on a day that I could wait for it to be done because I didn't have NO ride to pick me up so only schedule me at a time slot that I could wait for it to be done and i will come in at that time. He gave me a time, i put down a deposit and was ready for the installation . On my scheduled day for installation (two week later) I was told to come in earlier on this day and I will be taken care of since i had been scheduled in for installation. I let him once again know I would be sticking around for the car so schedule me a time slot that they would actually work on my car and he confirmed. Marcos made me wait the entire day full shift and left my car dead last almost before closing to start my car. It was night time and I had been there a full 8 hours waiting for them to give me a sloppily instalation so they workers could go home and not be kept overtime. Then after finishing the installation a new light came on my dashboard because something was unplugged and not reprogrammed properly. Marcos told me not to worry that he would take care of it free of charge and he just needed time to program it and to come back and schedule another day because they were closing the shop and the workers wanted to go home. Keep in mind I had already been there an entire 8 hours for my car to be worked on dead last. How long is it going to take for him to reprogram the system for my mobridge to stop triggering this check light on my dashboard? Well, on my next "scheduled" visit, Marcos said he didnt have time to do it so i would have to come back another time. After being told to specifically bring the car in during this time. (Because they had already got me to pay in full now... working on fixing the check light for free was the least of their worries even though he gave me his word.) So i left and decided to try to come back another day. Next day, Marcos said sorry he can no longer do it because he can't reprogram it on my make and model type car (WHICH WAS A LIE!) . I called his boss (Mike) and told him about the situation that I have been dealing with. Then i get a call back from Marcos saying they can do it now but there will be an additional charge to reprogram the system. WHY WOULD THERE BE AN ADDITIONAL COST WHEN I ALREADY PAID YOU GUYS IN FULL AND YOU SAID YOU WOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS CHECK LIGHT ON MY DASHBOARD THE DAY OF INSTALLATION?" What happened to taking care of this for me like you said the day of installation? They then decided to send me to a mechanic shop next door to wheel works in back of their Audio Design location saying they will have another guy work on it. I go to the mechanics and he said he has the tool that they use to program it but he has no idea how to do it himself and that Marcos is the one who uses the tool and knows how to do it. Marcos has not only wasted my time, he wasted my money, my gas, and gave me one of the most unpleasant , unprofessional experiences I have ever had in my life. Mike also never made things right when I reached out to him and let him know my frustrations with Marcos. Mike you need to hire better people here man!!!! Marcos is making your business look bad! I had been looking for a an upgrade to my 08 911 and Cayenne for some time. Before I heard about Audio Design, I went to several places who all suggested I replace my system entirely...even before asking how I intend to use the system. After seeking additional (expensive) advice; I noticed Audio Design as I was coming out of the dealer. Mike (Owner) and Co. provided expert consultation and recommended an upgrade that saved me several hundred dollars in comparison to other less experienced quotes and businesses. After installation, the guys answered all of my questions no-matter how trivial. When I got my Cayenne upgraded my 8 year old Amplifier (Water damaged) unexpectedly burned out. Instead of quoting me an exorbitant price, they searched for a reasonable replacement at half the price. Mike prepared me for 2 hours labor since I popped by without an appointment. However, the guys took less than an hour and saved me $$$...again. I highly recommend Audio Design if you are considering any upgrades and modifications to your car audio system. Still one of the very best installers and retailers. If they don't stock it or can't order it, you may be looking at the wrong equipment I learned most of what I know from this store just from casually stopping by and chatting, they always have nice German cars in front so they keep busy but always have a minute to help you out with the little things before they get to business. Just picked up some higher end components just from stopping in during a tire appointment trying to kill time. Solid service and recommendations as always. Their installs are NOT cheap if you want it done right and to be happy long term. They can probably do the quick stuff, but that is a waste of an installer this good. I know for a fact that they will cut model-specific door rings custom for your vehicle in their wood shop, not recycle any wiring, crimp quick disconnect spades where applicable, and even vacuum your car depending on the mood. Special note:you drive a Porsche Carrera, this and one other shop in the bay area are the ONLY shops I know that can work on a Carrera successfully due to their special needs. You are wasting money on the Bose/Burmeister options at the dealership. read more

***THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD WITH A BUSINESS & ITS OWNER PERIOD*** I have read reviews before where people start out saying something along the lines of "if I could give this business 0 stars I would". I always thought those people were being overly dramatic and there was no way an experience could be that bad, well I am now one of those people. 1) MY SYSTEM: I came to Audio design seeking to upgrade my highs and mid level speakers to increase the volume and clarity of vocal sound. I explained to him that I was 100% happy with how my base sounds I just wanted louder and clearer highs/vocals. I had the JL Audio suggested amp and box for the W-7 as well as a second amp to power my mids. He asked who I had the system installed by (which was Audiowerks) after I told him that he began to badmouth the business and claimed many of there customers come to his shop to have there systems fixed which after doing research of my own is a complete lie! I left my car with Mikes shop as I had to travel out of the state on business, I explained to them when I returned that I would be moving to Virginia. When I return I discover that not a thing has been done to my car. Mike gives me a ridiculous excuse that they did not want to install my new speakers because they did not like the wiring job done by the previous installer. This was just another tactic for them to charge me for extra work that wasn't needed. I agreed to the service they suggested. After I came back to the shop to pick up my car I found my system sounding horrible. They removed the Parrot I had installed to be able to use my cell phone via Bluetooth, ruined my volume and base tones, etc. I literally wanted to cry, and choke this guy out at the same time when I heard it. What made it even worse he and his employees looked at me as though they had done a splendid job and I should be satisfied. It was quite the opposite. I expressed to them I did not like the way it sounded at all, they tried to fix the issue but nothing they did helped. I was forced to leave that night and have my car shipped to Virginia. No more than two weeks after I had them install everything every speaker in my car was blown! All the speakers that I bought from them AND my W-7 sub. 2) PEACE OF MIND This experience has been a complete nightmare and even worse trying to get Mike to rectify the situation has been insulting and careless on his part. I had to try to contact him several times via text message and phone calls to explain to him what he did to my car. He initially tried to deny what he had done. After giving him specific details that clearly pointed to Audio Design being the reason my $3,000 system had been destroyed he finally admitted he was at fault. He lied and told me he would replace every speaker that was blown and also help walk me through the process of pursuing getting a replacement W-7 via the manufacturer warranty. After months of back and forth, hearing this really gave me hope that this nightmare would end, well I was wrong. After completing task Mike suggested I do in preparation to make good on the promise to replace my speakers he completely went silent on me and refused to return my phone calls or text. I have all of the next messages from him admitting fault and I plan to use them in a small claims litigation, in addition to reporting this interaction to the Better Business Bureau. 3) MONEY Mike and Audio design destroyed every speaker and my system I spent over $3,000 on. In addition I spent another $1,800 just to have Audio Design destroy what was once a sound system I looked forward to hearing every day. Now when I drive my car I literally here crackling wherever I go, my sub sounds absolutely horrible and it's an embarrassment to drive anyone in my car. I have come to the conclusion that I will have to pay at least another $3,000 to purchase all new speakers and have everything re-wired. I am not someone who just throws money around, I work very hard for the money I earn and I spend it wisely. Giving my money and business to Audio Design was the biggest consumer mistake I have ever made. I am a business owner myself so I do not get off on trying to destroy any business or it's owners reputation, However I felt it to be my duty to share this horrible experience In hopes it will help someone else. I work with professional athletes and one of my clients in Particular former Tight End for the 49ers Vernon Davis warned me about Mike and Audio Design. He said he had gone through them before during his early years with the team and that they overcharged him, tried to up-sale him, and left him with a sound system he did not like. Well, here I am, just about 8 years later. Recently my iPod integration unit in my truck failed (after very heavy usage through the years) so I stopped in to see Mike (the owner of Audio Design) to see what my options were. Now mind you, 8 years later and technology has obviously moved forward but Mike was sensitive to my desire just to get everything back to were it was going forward w/o upgrading. I was able to buy and have installed another integration unit. We ran into an issue with this new integration unit locking up my iPod upon connection. Wilbur, one of the technicians, called the manufacturer and after a bit of going back and forth, was able to locate the correct sequence on my head unit to unlock my iPod. PROBLEM SOLVED. Wilbur and another colleague of his (sorry, I didn't get his name) also adjusted the gains in my amplifiers to achieve a proper balance. Wilbur showed an EXTRA amount of patience for I didn't particularly conveyed succinctly what I was looking for. No time did I feel rushed or put off. Keep in mind, this is no chain/discount retailer, if you want quality and long term satisfaction in your car audio (which is of paramount importance to me), go to Audio Design. Mike knows his business and takes pride in dialing into your needs and he stands behind his work. Had a great experience installing a new sound system in my new car. I did however have a minor issue where the front/rear and left/right speaker channels were reversed. It wasn't a big deal and was only noticeable when I took calls over bluetooth. Fast forward nearly 5 years. I stopped by the shop last week to see if they could fix it, and after 10 minutes of fiddling, they scheduled an appointment for me to come back for a full troubleshoot. It was a couple of hours of work for them to resolve and they fixed the issue for free, no questions asked. That's pretty great service and says a lot about how they treat customers. I was checking reviews on this place before coming, and, to be honest, I had doubts if these guys are good enough. My review is coming after almost a year after the job on upgrading our mini-van was done. After getting full explanation of my options by Marcos, we had the head unit replaced for the amazing Kenwood what brought all functions you can get in the newest vehicles, speakers were upgraded, DVD unit installed for the second row passengers and upgraded the headlights for the HID system. I can tell you, our car is fairly new and has only 50K miles on odometer, my descision was to make technological upgrade which will keep it up to the time and won't make me to change our beloved van and make monthly payments. The owner changed me 100 dollars to adjust my deck took a whole 5 mins Than I had the owner put a kill switch in my car a about a week after they installed it I noticed it was not working at all so I took back and he try to come up with all kind of excuses and why he need to charge me again for the same job .by the way he charged me 500 for a job that he couldn't complete so I would definitely not recommend this spot the owner is not s man of his word read more

Mike and his team are solid. I had hardware issue with an Audisson Bit Ten processor after my first year with the unit. Once it was determined to be a known issue, they swapped out the unit and returned the defective gear to the vendor. It took 45 minutes which was quicker than expected. I gave them 4 stars as there's room for improvement on returning calls and follow ups when promised. Scheduling appointments is the way to go as they tend to be quite busy. Thanks guys! read more

I've been coming here for years, but this time I had An extremely difficult job or so I thought. I came in and talked with Mason about what I wanted for my 2004 GS 430. I needed a new deck but didn't want to change any of the original look inside. With the new deck I also needed to have my air/heat component changed and they found a way of adding this without making any changes to the look, everything that was done looks like it was original, linking all the new components to the steering wheel as if original. Edgar, Mason, Mike, Juan and Christian really took their time to make this project perfect. I so appreciate their hard word and their out of the box thinking on how to make this work. Also had the headlights, sub woofer and wiring upgraded. Just a phenomenal job!
