I brought a box of Super 8 movies to AV Workshop, and they did a great job digitizing them. They could not work with several that were undeveloped, but pointed me to a company that could help with those. For the ones they could work with, I'm very happy with the results! My final thumb drive was missing one of the digitized files, and they were very quick to figure out what went wrong and fix it. I really appreciate all their help and I will be bringing them more movies soon. I love that they are local to me, and so I don't have to rely on USPS to ship my family treasures. read more

I pretty much use yelp reviews to praise local businesses but, wow, I have to say something about this one. I brought some old family albums in for an estimate for scanning. I was told that "Scott" would have to call me with that and I left them on a Tuesday after looking at and confirming the price per page, $1.19 for higher resolution images. The last thing on the following Friday I got a message from "Scott" saying that the albums were in crummy shape(he used the word "dilapidated" three times in his message) and would cost $6.50 a page to scan. And if I didn't want to pay that, to please come get them soon because they were old and dusty and he didn't like having them around. I kind of don't care what one's technical skills are...they can't compensate for this level of rudeness. The guy seems to want the last word on any negative review so, you know, stand by. read more

It's expensive, but they do a good job. I had two 43-year-old reel-to-reel tapes of a music recital, and they put them on a CD with one track for each tape (each was 30-40 minutes long), and the sound quality was excellent even without noise reduction. No mistakes, or bobbles or glitches. I was initially led to believe that turnaround time would be 4 weeks, which would have gotten the results in time to make the CD into a Christmas present, but when I got the formal invoice it said 7 weeks. Oh well, late present. Even then it was a couple days early. read more

Forever thankful to Audio Video Workshop. I had a 8MM film that my father gave me years ago, I never had the opportunity to see what was inside since I didn't have the projecting equipment. Workshop converted it to MP4 and it was footage of my mother taking us to the beach in Hong Kong back in 1979. Wow these guys are rude! I was very much hoping to do business with a local vendor, so I spent time on their website creating a quote, then called to clarify a few questions that I couldn't find answers to on the site. When I started to describe my project, I got as far as saying "the film is Super 8 from my wife's family" and the guy interrupted and impatiently snapped "what's your question?". I asked a couple of my questions then he blurted out "how many feet do you have?" which I would have told him if he had just listened. There are lots of players in this industry, so buh-bye! I highly recommend Audio Video Workshop for all your digital transfer needs! I sent in very old 16mm, 8mm film from the 1930's, 40's and 50's to be transferred too digital on an external hard drive. It took about 8wks. for 5000ft. of film. When I received my film, I viewed it right away and, WOW... it looked GREAT! A lot better than I was expecting. Scott even went the extra mile! When a few of my tin cases didn't get shipped back, he went out of his to find them and, shipped them back at his own cost. I'm a very satisfied customer. I looked around online for the best reviews of media transfer companies across the country. Finally, I came across some very positive reviews for a place called Audio Video Workshop in Redwood City, CA, and I decided to give them a try. I keep coming back for more. And as actions speak louder than words, you can guess what that means. It means that the flattering reviews you're reading about their video services are largely on-target. I'd rather work remotely by phone and email with a store than do business locally with someone I trust less. Some examples of their finished products: I transferred a VHS tape of a TV movie (which has never been made available for DVD purchase) onto DVD through Audio Video Workshop, and I was blown away at how much better the picture is than on the original. Another time they made a '70s TV show look so much less garish than it was on the initial videotape. Hats off to AV! I kind of wish they would come down a shade on their prices for transfers to MP4's. Nonetheless, the quality of the files was still excellent. read more

I went in to see if they could transfer two Wedding tapes that I needed for the following weekend.Scott at first explained he was shorthanded and it would be 2-3 weeks, when I stressed to him I needed them for Friday he said he would try and get it done. Sure enough he called me on Thursday saying he would have them ready on Friday at 2:PM. He Did have them ready. I would definitely recommend Scott but next time I will allow more time on my part. I had to create a Yelp account just to write this review! Scott is such an amazing person. I had my engagement right before the shutdown with COVID. My videographer gave me the complete video via email. I downloaded it and took it to Walmart. I was excited about the customization options and getting my final copy. I had requested 5 HD DVD's. After weeks of waiting for the videos, I was devastated with the results. My party was recorded in HD, but with the transfer, it was so bad that the scenes were blurred. The quality was unbearable to watch. I couldn't find anywhere that could give me the quality the original video was. I called Scott in tears. He assured me that he will be able to fix the issue. In such a short time, he made me 4 Blu-ray's and 1 DVD. I'm so happy with his service. You pay more than Walmart but it's definitely worth it. You won't be disappointed with his work! read more

I have had my wedding video on VHS for over 20 years and I really needed it digitized. Once of those things I never go around to and then the old WinTV card I had wouldn't work with the computer I use these days, plus the VCR I have is really old. So, I decided to look in to finding a good company to handle it given that it was my ONLY copy. I was concerned with the horror stories of the 'cheap outfits' losing material. I decided to put the money in to having it done properly too with upscaling the resolution from the video to 720p. I'm very impressed. I really liked that I could just have them provide a flash drive and it would all be mailed back to me. It was done and came back quicker than expected and I'm really happy with the results. You don't often buy a product or a service that means quite as much, but this really did. My wife and I celebrate 22 years next month so I'm looking forward to sharing the video as a surprise. read more

My in-laws filmed quite a few reels from the time they got married and while their kids were growing up. My husband didn't want them taken to just any place. He wanted someone who would take the time to do a frame-by-frame transfer.  AV Workshop did that and also touched up the videos (I believe they used Adobe products). The videos came out bright, clear and incredibly special. They will hands down be the best Christmas gift we've ever given my brother-in-law. We've also been sharing clips with cousins, who are touched to see Christmases and memories from their childhood. We entrusted my dad's 16mm home movies to Scott and he did a great job. The movies were dated from 1934 to 1979 and had been sitting in my closet in a paper bag for decades. We were thrilled at the relatively crisp and clear end product. Absolutely no comparison to the blurry, faint images we got from Costco on our 8mm movies. After seeing the Costco results, it was important to me to find a place where the process was professional and would actually scan the film reels frame by frame rather than the cheaper process of projecting the film onto a screen (or wall! who knows?) and shooting the projected movie with a phone or something! The difference is pretty dazzling. One caveat: Scott gave us a flash drive with two gigantic 27-gig files instead of the 50+ individual movies we were expecting. I now have many hours of work ahead of me splitting those files into individual movies so I can shuffle them into consecutive order and get them to my family members (cousins on my mother's side are not much interested in movies of cousins on my father's side and vice versa). So if you give him a lot of reels and it's important to you to have them in individual files -- mention it up front! One reel, which was a color movie my dad took of the 1939 Exposition on Treasure Island, somehow came out in "mirror image" so all the signage was backwards, etc. Scott went through it and flipped it back for me *after* we had already picked up the movies and paid for them. He sent me that reel in a dropbox. Very nice. I highly recommend this shop. read more

A/V Workshop is a very professional organization and they provide excellent customer service. I recommend them. That said, be sure that they can provide the service you need before you decide to work with them. I found out after paying them for services that they can't do what I need because they don't specialize in Macs and don't really have the equipment to work with old Mac formatted floppy discs. I wish I had known that beforehand. Talk frankly with Scott about your expectations beforehand. He is a very reasonable and open guy and will earnestly discuss your project with you. Am I frustrated? Yes. On the other hand, does av workshop work hard to provide a valuable service? Yes. I would work with them again in the future but would ask a lot more questions first. read more

I needed 100 DVDs made quick. Put the order in on a Tuesday. Got all the DVDs shipped to me on a Friday. DVDs were perfect, full cover imprint on the DVD. No problems. Worked with Scott at Audio Video Workshiop (used to be called Euro Video). Wonderful experience and will absolutely use them again. I created a DVD for the reunion and my job was to make (duplicate) the DVD into 100 DVD's. My client wanted a professional look to the DVD's and wanted the top to show an image/color to give it a more polished look.
