WORST" EXPERIENCE & EMPLOYEES I purchased a product & was unable to take per my physician. I went to return it had go back several times still no luck.. per the Cashier only the maanger can do the returns. finally was able to speak to the manager now she states only the supervisor could do the refund 1.the supervisor wasn't there 2. they don't do refund becuz everyone would want a refund. I had only 48 hours to have an art piece printed and framed in time for a wedding gift last week. I called Dickerman and after explaining my predicament, the gentleman on the phone swiftly guided me through what options to select online based on my specs, and shortly afterward I was able to quickly upload my image and process my order with ease. Within an hour I received an email confirming my print would be available for pick up the next day. I obtained my frame and matting from another location and when I arrived at Dickerman - they were so gracious and professional, I was made to feel as though my tiny print job was as important as the obviously more expensive work I observed throughout the studio. They even took it a step further and gave me an extra copy of the print that they produced, placed my new print in the frame purchased elsewhere, gave me advice on mat backing and discoloration, wrapped it with care, and thanked me for my business. Going through my mother's things as we moved her to an assisted living facility, I came across an old negative of her brother who died in his early 20s. This negative had been sitting in a garage in the heat of Fresno for 50 years. So not in the best of shape. It was also an unusual size (4.5"x5.5"). After calling a few places that wanted nothing to do with it, I found the reviews about Dickerman and decided to take a chance. They were AMAZING! I'm currently disabled and could not bring the negative to them. No problem, they told me how to package it and the best way to ship it to them. They scanned the old negative, cleaned it up a bit, and sent me back beautiful prints in both 8 x 10 and 4 x 6. Yes, they are a little more pricy than some places. First time, small fry customer get's the royal treatment I walked in off the street on a whim and had a photo in my phone printed 16" x 16". They confirmed that it would look sharp at that size, took the file, and said they would mail me the proof. (I live an hour away.) 3 days later I got the proof, as promised. I ordered the print. 3 days later I got the print, and it looked amazing... BUT. As a newbie, I didn't know to ask them to leave a one inch margin so that I could drop it into a cheap frame. I felt like I should have known, but decided to ask. I emailed and asked and they said no, it's reasonable that you would have assumed we would have given you a bigger margin. "We will print you a new one if you pay for shipping." WOW! So happy!!! A week later, no print, so I ask. Apparently it was stolen off of my porch! I let them know and offered to pay for half if they were willing to print another for me. "No problem." they said. ARE YOU KIDDING? The print was only $70 to start with. I had already done some editing of my photos, but he tuned up the color and sharpness for me. I discovered this little secret when I received an offer from Living Social over the weekend. Just getting into the hobby, I was excited to see my photos come to life in print. The timing could not have been better! The instructions from Living Social was pretty basic, and I had to navigate through Dickerman's website to understand how to get my files to them. The site had a few simplified videos on creating the file so that they could work with it. This was a slight downside, where I had to essentially learn how to use PhotoShop and upload what I wanted. It was also probably my connection that really sucked in getting such a huge file to them. Definitely take their website's advice and ZIP your file(s) before sending it. They are not open weekends, which sucked a little, but first thing Monday morning, I received an email saying that my prints were ready! Excitement!! When I went to go pick them up, had to navigate through the Mission of SF, but when I got there, it was a quaint and cozy studio, with examples of art on their walls that got my creative juices flowing. The staff were awesome! The clerk asked if I wanted to see my prints, oh yeah! He busted out the cloth gloves and gave me a pair. Very professional! My pics all came out on one sheet, but he said that the Print on Demand service require that I cut them on my own (probably for liability sake, understandable). He was very detailed in showing me how the cutter worked, and it worked like a charm! I cleaned up my scraps and took off. Dickerman Prints was awesome! They offer organic espresso, tea, or water while you're working and waiting. All the work stations are mac's with photoshop. I had to adjust all my photos to RGB Adobe and color balance them, which is something you might want to know in your editing process. They have certain times to print on glossy paper and other times for matte, so if you want it all done in one visit, plan accordingly. I got eighteen 3.5"x5" cut prints on matte paper for about $35. Super high quality. The guy who was working there, Gabriel, was so nice and helpful. And he wasn't hard to look at either! read more

This place is awesome. I'd never printed photos before (except from my home printer) or worked in photoshop, but Dickerman made it easy and even fun. We had some special images we wanted to have printed in the highest quality way, and a trusty yelp search revealed Dickerman as being the best. As soon as I walked in, I was introduced to Gabriel who set me up at a work station. Gabriel patiently walked me through all the steps until I had the process down, then showed me some little tricks to enhance / retouch / crop my photos till they were just the way I wanted them. This is hands down the most accessible, affordable, impeccably maintained print studio I've ever had the pleasure of working in. The lab is housed in a huge garage/warehouse space that's be redone with cubicles for each computer workstation, color-balanced lighting, clean tables for prints, supplies (white gloves, butcher paper, print boxes, etc), and kitchen area. I went to do the self-serve direct digital output, printing my digital tiff as a C print, and the entire experience was ten million items what I needed or imagined. There are some amazin old CRT monitors at each station, calibrated WEEKLY. The Colex your print goes through is calibrated either daily, or twice a day, I forget. Either one completely satisfied my wildest dreams. They dedicate the machine to matte paper for half the day and glossy for the other half. I came in one day, worked on my test prints for a few hours, and just shy of closing time, put everything away for the day and picked up exactly where I left off the next morning. Coming from using the enlargers and Colex in college, and the unbelievable color shifts that go along with it, its unbelievable to be able to pause your workflow and pick up from the same place hours or days later! The staff are friendly and extremely knowledgeable. For me, a large part of what I appreciate about group darkrooms and studios is being able to ask for opinions on color/tonality/whatever. I was having some banding issues with solid-color areas in my print, from using the gradient tool to edge burn in Photoshop (don't do it!), and got great advice from the staff on how to resolve it, along with some super helpful customized photoshop actions. There is NO HOURLY FEE! The prices for the self-serve are so unbelievably reasonable! For a 12x30, smallest size for test prints, its $24. Next one up is something around $34. I spent two days, 6 hours, and around $150 to get my 20x24 print looking EXACTLY as I'd envisioned. It would have taken over a week and easily twice as much money to go to Light Waves, or some similar lab. Staffed by similarly awesome folks I'm sure, but It takes time to send in tests, get them back, send a new file in... this was far better. I kept asking how they could afford to run without hourly rates or higher prices, and the staff kept telling me that the idea is just to provide artists with a clean, well maintained studio space to print in. Yes, I'm a 16 year old photographer with a part-time job as a photo editor, wedding/event photographer and portraiture photographer, I have to admit, these prints are superb! I never though Matte paper can be so beautiful until seeing my prints come alive! I came in and it was quiet, of course it was a Wednesday night and I was the only one there along with one of the staff. She was the most lovely, caring, kind and all around best person I've met working at a location like this. She helped me with bordering the photos and getting the prints out knowing that I've never done digital prints. I spent 3 hours with her tutoring me with printing, it was amazingly helpful and she's the best! I will definitely come back here to print my photos! Hands down, best place to print your images. My cousin passed away from Cancer in July and her husband asked me to print out her picture for the funeral services. I knew to use Dickerman Prints because I had used them to print out my wedding photos back in 2017. At that time I was very impressed with the quality of their work. I had an Amazon Local deal, but the service I got was worth so much more than even the regular price. I don't know anything about photography or digital image production, but Gabriel helped me every step of the way. The photo file had lots of "dust," and he taught me how to clean it up in Photoshop. He also showed me some options for lightening the image and let me choose which I liked best. Then, when I mentioned to him that this job was a reprint from an earlier deal (I discovered the print had a crease in it, and I didn't know if it happened in the shop or in transit), Gabriel told me I could have a second reprint for free, to replace the creased one. I had been having photos enlarged and printed at another local shop. They were not printing one day, so I tried Dickerman. I am absolutely sold on this shop, and see no reason to go back to my prior or anywhere else! Service is timely, especially the Do-It-Yourself option which is easy even with minimal photoshop skills; it doesn't get much faster than while-you-wait a few minutes. I don't get it! How could I get such a crappy print from a business that has a five-star rating on yelp? I just received a 16X20 print from them made from the same file I recently sent to Bay Photo. I wanted to compare the services. Let me tell you. NIGHT and DAY difference in the quality. And I was told it was custom printing. Garbage. This is NOT an ad for Bay Photo - it's a truthful reaction to what just happened to me. I simply do not understand how they could look at the file and then send me that print. The print is nothing like it looks like on my monitor or iPad while the one from Bay Photo is great. Same file, different results. Sorry, Dickerman - but you blew it! REVIEW UPDATE- I want people to know Dickerman Prints has offered to re-do my print at no cost and to assure I'm happy with their service. They want to see the Print I got from Bay Photo to have something to judge it by and to make sure it meets my expectations. I'm delighted they have made that offer and I WILL take them up on it. The problem is that I don't often get into SF during business hours. But I will try to soon and will post the results. *****THE NEW RESULTS ARE IN****** The original problem was one of communication and expectation. Seth had used his judgement to produce a print with normal color balance not knowing I'd intentionally given the image a warmer, somewhat sepia tone. That resulted in a print that while closer to real life perhaps, was VERY different from what I'd just worked to create. This place runs like a well-oiled machine: You walk in with your picture file (whether on a USB or a disk) and plug it into the computer, and it's put in the queue to print. I was told mine would take 10 minutes, but I swear it was out in two. Once the printer spits out your product, you can use the cutting tables (with white gloves!!!) to size or separate your print. And whomever is manning the desk will also give you a large envelope reinforced with cardboard so your prints don't get damaged in transit. A nice trick, which they point out on the website, is to cluster multiple images on one larger file and print them all on that one sheet to cut back on costs. For example, we did seven prints in various sizes, laid out in Photoshop then transported on a jump drive, on a 30x30 print, then used the cutting board to separate them for various frames. The staff is incredibly friendly, and I was in and out in under 10 minutes. Parking in the neighborhood is generally easy during the daytime, and the business honors the 15% discount to Yelpers.
