I've tried August Moon about four times now, and I really want to love it.. but every time, I end up leaving feeling like the food is just okay for the price. The staff and service are always amazing, and the atmosphere and cleanliness are great, so I truly wish the food matched the rest of the experience. I've tried several dishes here: their sushi rolls, Bibim Bap, the bento box with Gui chicken, and another bento box with teriyaki salmon. Everything is decent, but nothing has really wowed me so far. For what I pay, I just expect a little more flavor and value. The only reason for giving it four stars instead of five is its price--I find it a little pricy. My Stone Bibimbap is $18-it's mainly rice with a little bit meat and vegetables on top; my husband's chicken Katsu is $26; with one soda and tip, we walked out with a bill of $60. Food: 1. Edemmame. You can't go wrong with these, so I enjoyed them. 2. A tuna roll, I think, with avocado. It was ok. The roll was falling apart, and that's never good. 3. Spring rolls. They were fried just right and crispy. I would have liked a dipping sauce. 4. A seafood combo bowl with shrimp and mussels and served in a bowl that came out sizzle hot like fajitas. I believe there was other seafood, but I can't remember. I wasn't a fan of how it came in that sizzling bowl because it made the rice a little hard. The flavor level was low. This place was pretty solid - better than what I had anticipated for a hole in the wall restaurant. In reality, it's much, much bigger than that. It appears to have at least 3 dining halls. They have a mixed kitchen of Korean and Japanese. My party stuck with Japanese and got four rolls and a few appetizers. Everything was standard and to our liking. The salad used romaine lettuce instead of iceberg, which was nice. There was a mistake with our order of a roll, but the friendly and attentive waitress fixed it right away. Also, the prices are extremely reasonable. The most expensive thing we got was a $12 roll, but everything else was mostly $6 so we weren't surprised when the bill didn't reach $50. This isn't a destination spot, but if you're hungry in Norristown, might as well stop by to check it out! read more

A very nice place. Clean and decorated nicely. I've been going there for years and it always was exceptional. Last time I went during lunch and it wasn't as good as I remembered, the beef Jap chee. It was a little greasy with so little beef and veggies I couldn't see hardly any. This time same dish and it wasn't edible. It was so salty and greasy and the noodles were stuck together in a glob. Still hardly any beef but some veggies. The tempura was soggy and cold. My mother's dish was a little bit better but she didn't like it. My dad's rice bowl was cold and stuck together... All rice no meat. It was a very disappointing experience. They did comp us 4 fried dumplings but that were greasy and falling apart. The sides were either over cooked and salted or raw. The kimchi was great. The waitress was extremely nice. I hope they get a better cook. read more

Stopped in for a mid-week late lunch at the redesigned August Moon. While I was the only customer around 2pm, I am sure the service would have been just as friendly and efficient. I started with a seafood pa chun (pajeon), courtesy of a Yelp checkin. It was freshly make with large pieces of squid, shrimp and scallions. Next, I wanted to try the sashimi as I am always looking for good sushi places in the Burbs. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of Tuna, Salmon, Fluke and Macekrel. In fact, I got the first cut of the Tuna and the fish was so fresh, it could give Bluefin a run for its money. I am eager to go back and try more sushi to ensure consistency. The price for my lunch Sashimi plater was just $9 for 12 or more pieces. I also got some Bul Go Gi to go which I had for dinner. Was not blown away by it, but that could be because it was sitting in the container for a bit. As a nice bonus, the decor (including bathrooms) was nice and Morinoto like and super clean. August Moon serves Japanese and Korean cuisine. It's easy to find since it's on Main Street, off of 202. They have a large lot so parking shouldn't be an issue. This is the closest place I know of to the King of Prussia mall that serves Korean dishes. (If anyone knows places that do which are closer, let me know!) Their interior is clean, plain and wood-paneled. It never gets outrageously noisy, even when busy. There's ample room for parties of any size. August Moon has a banquet hall for private events - have no idea of its dimensions, but from the outside (it is visible from the rear), it's obvious that it can comfortably fit a crowd. Their web site also has some good shots of the interior. I've been here several times: - dinner - Saturday night, sit-down with a party of 10 (make a reservation like we did, it got crowded), I ordered the spicy kalbi which was delicious. - lunch - stopped in for takeout, (called in my order) I ordered the bento box with kimchi - tasty. - lunch - sit-down with a party of 4-5 (we didn't make a reservation and they accept walk-ins), I shared bibimbap and noted that it took 15 minutes to come out - that's fast. - lunch - sit-down with a party of 5 (no reservation), place wasn't that crowded, but the wait was a tad long. Had the bulgogi box (#233 on the menu) which was delish. Their menu tends to be pricey and more expensive than restaurants like it. Unsure if they have a liquor license, but I noticed a bar in the front with a TV. There's a SUSHI bar but I've never tried anything from it. Service is polite, dependable, and does the job. Their mixed service, food (good, but not outstanding) and relatively high prices affect the star rating but since I'm satisfied every time I go, August Moon earns about 3.5 stars. read more

We usually drive to inner city of Philly for Korean food but we found this place that is closer so we decided to try August Moon. Quiet location and parking space was a plus. Sushi was surprisingly good and our main dishes were pretty good except the side dishes. My fiancé was very happy with the food but I thought the side dishes felt like imitation of Korean dishes due to lack in flavors like fish sauce, garlic, and chili pepper. Also The rice that they served wasn't Japanese or Korean rice that are short grain with a sticky texture. I'm a sucker for noodle and rice so this matters to me haha. Overall experience was good though! Great location, good service, and good price. I would give them 5 starts if this was an Asian fusion restaurant instead of Korean restaurant. read more

Came here seeking out a Korean food fix after my recent introduction. The interior is updated and nice. They have a bar. The music was a mix of pop and country which rubbed me the wrong way and made me feel it was mismatched to the environment. Ordered a soon bowl and a Korean beef dish. The soon bowl was tasty, but a tad weak and a little watery on the flavors. I had just come back from a stay in Toronto's Koreatown and wanted something like the soon hotpots I had there. The beef bowl was good, but the beef had just the slightest flavor that the meat was not fresh. Given that the restaurant was completely empty on a weeknight except for me and my dining partner, and a bar fly, it was a little concerning. We didn't say anything, just left it since it was only $15. The service was friendly, helpful and on par. The server pointed out some helpful things about the menu which narrowed down what we ordered. I'm not sure I would return again soon, but appreciate getting a Korean fix close to home. read more

Every Saturday second week of the month, there is a jazz performance. The food is good considered it located outside the city, it's a little pricey and the mini appetizers that they usually bring before dinner didn't come out until closer when they bring our the food. A coworker took me here for dinner and I was fully expecting good sushi (and I was not disappointed) but what really made me smile was the incredible Galbi/Kalbi! Wow - complete with 5 panchan (potatoes, bean sprouts, kimchi, broccoli and cucumber salad). Some of the best Korean I have had in a long while. We had a really good take out dinner from here last night. We got the yakitori, young octopus, and the seafood scallion pancake. These were all pretty good. I think next time I'll get the pancake with just scallions because the seafood made it thicker and less crisp. The hubs got an udon noodle dish with shrimp which he said hit the spot and I got the bulgogi. It was served with a bunch of Korean condiment/side dishes and lettuce leaves for wrapping. I got my sushi-loving teen son to go to dinner with us and my sushi-hating hubs tried a sushi roll...those 2 things alone would have been worth it...but the server was lovely and the food was really good, so all in all, a nice time out. We started with wasabi pork shu mai and tempura veggies. Hubs had kalbi- flavorful, tender pieces of filet, served sizzling and accompanied by rice, assorted veggies, lettuce wrappers and soybean paste. He enjoyed it all. I had the dancing shrimp roll and my son had the polar bear roll- both were delish! I'd like to go back for lunch and try a bento box. And maybe finally learn to use chop sticks. read more

August Moon is a Korean/Japanese restaurant simply due to the fact that it's owned by Koreans, which is a very common occurance in America. As a Korean-American, I would highly suggest to stick with the sushi at this restaurant, as the Korean food here is seriously under par. With that said, the only Japanese/Korean item on the menu that I would have would be Hwe-dub bab. It's basically a large bowl of rice with salad greens, an assortment of sashimi, shreds of seaweed and a nice spoonful of tobikko. You top this off with Cho-Jang (a mixture of chili paste, vinegar, and sugar) and go to town on it. Sushi here is served the normal West Coast way - nigiri/gunkan orders come out 2 per order versus the normal Philly style of ordering piece by piece. This place won't have hard to find cuts of fish, but what they do carry is always pretty good. read more

My band stopped here after finishing an outdoor concert. We all had sushi in one form or another. I had the chef's assortment - basic, but really pretty good. Some of the others had more exotic rolls, which they also really liked. Prices were a bit high, but not exorbitant. We didn't try any Korean fare ... only sushi. Our only issue was communication with the staff. One member of the band has celiac's disease, so he can't eat any gluten. Turns out some soy sauces actually have gluten in them. So he tried to ask a bunch of staff about various rolls, to see if they had any soy sauce or other gluten-suspects .... and he couldn't get anyone to actually understand or answer his question. No one was outright rude ... we just couldn't get past language barriers for some pretty simple questions .... But as long as you can point to what you want, and don't have any special needs ... the sushi really was pretty good. read more

Sushi here is decent but a little on the pricey side considering that it's not bluefin. The marble roll was the only standout of the bunch but the size was small forgets $16 price tag. The fish was pretty fresh, though. The Korean food is not spectacular but edible enough. The hot stone bibimbap was average, but the bulgogi? Go to any of the Korean places in nearby blue ell or north wales. You also can't cook at your table, which to me defeats the purpose of bbq. However, the lunch boxes are usually around $10, which is a pretty good deal considering that you get to pick between sushi, sashimi, maki, teriyaki, BBQ, udon, and bibimbap. This place is easy to find on main St., and they have a private parking lot. I've been here several times, mostly during the jazz night. It's the second Saturday every month. It's a smaller place with a contemporary Asian decor. It's family owned, and the staff is attentive. They have a fully stocked bar, but its a little pricey. The entrees are on the high side too. That's kind of a relative statement. If you pick the place up and put it on the mainline, the prices would be normal and the food is good enough to compete. The most recent time I was there I had the hot bowl. It's a fried egg over vegetables and rice and your choice of meat in a sizzling bowl. I enjoyed it because the vegetables were really fresh, and any rice on the edges got kind of fried. If it were a little less, I'd be here more often. read more

We had the starter platter (the least expensive variety platter) and asked for two of each, since there were two of us, and my dining partner had never had sushi before. I know there was tuna and salmon (my favorite - though admittedly amateur), but I was very unsure of the other two types - they looked nothing like any of the pictures. But that's not unique to August Moon, that's everywhere. ARGH! After the "sampler platter" we picked out a few pieces. My friend wasn't satisfied with playing it safe so we went all out. We got the eel, the squid, the red clam and the shrimp (just to have something safe). ALL of the sushi was delicious! I would love to go back any time for any occasion - even just bored and hungry for sushi! The ambiance is really quite nice, but that's probably because it was a Wednesday night and literally completely empty. The waitress was very nice and patient with us, and gently corrected me when I mispronounced the real names of the sush ("eki?" etc). And you know it's got to be good when the sushi chef doesn't speak a word of english... Well, a couple words. He knows the english names of the sushi, but that's just about it. It made me happy. Oh yea, and they had metal chopsticks! I effin LOVE metal chopsticks! I thought about asking if I could buy a pair off them, cause I have never been able to find them everywhere. I used to wear them to hold up my hair, but it's too short now... for now. I plan on growing it out again, just cause I love wearing chopsticks. Lost the edge!! ...after not visiting this place for a while, my wife and I visited this place. Honestly, they lost the edge for sushi. They used to server authentic sushi - no fancy rolls, solid sushi pieces with fresh items. Of course, sushi depends largely upon chef himself and how/where they get fresh fish. Not sure if they have changed that route...but chefs were different from years ago - of course. We were not impressed by sushi - taste, presentation, size, etc...more like disappointment from our memories of years ago. Tuna was not fresh and very stingy; Hamachi had a little smell over dark part; Hirame did not have texture...rolls were crashed cut rather than sliced...well, this part if upon chef's skill for sure. Lastly, price...hmmm, big spike I shall say...with one drink each and orders for two people...without ordering anything special was almost $100...was pricey for sure :( read more
