We've been to Takumi twice now since it's reliable late night option for us. The restaurant is situated in the same parking lot as Whole Foods, and has a dark sushi bar vibe on the inside. Service has always been really fast and friendly. The first time we went, we had the creamy kimchi shrimp udon and the spicy tonkotsu ramen. My husband asked me where I would like to go for my birthday and I passed by Takumi several times when shopping at Whole Foods in Devon. I read pretty positive reviews so I went a had a booked it. Plenty of parking in the lot. We had late reservation so we didn't have any wait time. Upon arriving, we were promptly seated in a window booth. Light was dim for an intimate atmosphere.The decor is modern and walking in you see the large attractive bar with decorative gold lights. We started with a spepper squid appetizers. The batter was crispy, however, the squid was a bit chewy, bland and greasy. I'd not recommend.. The beef gyoza was cooked perfectly- pan seared and steamed. We ordered chicken curry and a sashimi deluxe . The curry was delicious. Vegetables were not soggy . Medium heat. The sashimi blew me away! Beautiful presentation with sushi rice under each fish. The best in Mainline! I'm coming back ! Miso soup was perfect- small pieces of tofu and Wakame seaweed. My family & I made a last minute reservation & dined here on a Wednesday evening. It's a really cute spot for a date night, girls night out or family gathering. I thought it was odd that our server didn't know what "nigiri" was. She also didn't tell us what all the fishes were when she delivered the sushi sashimi combo so we had to guess... However, every dish we shared was fresh & tasty. The shishito peppers, uni & scallop carpaccio, yellowtail jalapeño sashimi, Hokkaido uni nigiri & crunchy spicy salmon rolls were some of my favorites. It is only bar seating so best to come with a small group but the restaurant is beautiful and the presentation of each dish was aesthetically pleasing. We ordered the lychee bellini, crispy spicy, rock shrimp, white tuna avocado, and spicy crunch salmon. The lychee bellini is the perfect drink for someone who wants something sweet and doesn't really taste like alcohol. My favorite was the crispy spicy, I loved the different combinations of textures, and the flavor was bomb. The shrimp was good but I'm allergic so I didn't eat too much of it lol The rolls I felt were just okay nothing too special, the appetizers and drink were the stars of the meal. Conveniently located in Devon village. I have stopped by this place several times. I have gotten the salmon, yellowtail, and tuna. My partner has ordered the Chilean sea bass. Although I enjoy the miso glaze, I feel the "glaze" should be a bit lighter or they should place a thinner layer, as it can overwhelm the flavor of the delicate fish. The sushi is fantastic, I order it on delivery as well and it is fresh and well balanced very time. The service at the restaurant is great, very prompt. Our reservation was for 7:30. Two parties ahead of us waiting. There was no hostess. Two parties were finally seated and I got the attention of a wait staff who seated us. At 8:30 we still did not have our drinks. There were only two wait staff for the back dining area. I have never seen two people move so quickly and work so hard. They were unbelievably dedicated and polite. The ambiance was very nice. We have been there before and the food and drinks are always good. Kudos to the wait staff, bar tenders, sushi chefs......management have more consideration for your staff. read more

Takumi is a beautiful new restaurant that has the nicest staff and freshest sushi. Staff was very accommodating and present through the meal. I ordered the creamy kimchi udon. Of note: THIS HAS SHRIMP which is not noted on the menu. This dish was a highlight for me. Every component was fantastic. The sushi was unbelievably fresh. An excellent addition to the local Japanese/sushi connoisseur scene. The decor is beautiful inside. The tables include a small lamp which you can adjust the brightness on individually (aka perfect photo lighting) which I greatly appreciated. Our waitresses were friendly but I don't think prepared for the busy night. I only noticed two in our area, and we needed to wave them down each time we needed more drinks, water, main course, etc. Not their fault necessarily so not a huge deal to me. The food was delicious! Although my sisters bf didn't feel the $40 wagyu fried rice was worth the cost, I was very pleased with the freshness of my sushi rolls. And the pork gyoza were some of the best I've ever had! The truffle ramen was very tasty, but I've had better broth. Prices are expected for the mainline overall. I went to Takumi for the first time, and it absolutely exceeded my expectations! The quality of food, the PRESENTATION of food (down to the utensils and plating), service, interior design, and cleanliness were all top notch. I have tried many sushi places, and I can say that Takumi is now one of my favorites in the suburbs of PA. I got the salmon tartar and the Out of Control Roll, which were both delicious. The tartar is probably the best tartar I've ever had; it was the perfect blend of citrus-y and savory flavors with very fresh ingredients. The sushi roll was also very fresh and presented very nicely. I got the green tea cheesecake for dessert, which was very flavorful in matcha flavor. I highly recommend Takumi if you're looking for a chic sushi/Asian food spot. Also, Takumi just received its liquor license, so they will be serving cocktails and other alcoholic beverages very soon! read more

My wife's ramen was flavorful - one of the better bowls, she said, that she has had in the region. While the rest of the fare was undistinguished, the quality of the food at Takumi was not an issue for us. Rather, we encountered two problems when the bill came. First, we were told contradictory things: That the price is the same, for cash and credit-card payments; then, that if we paid cash, the tax would be taken off the bill. We concluded that the price does differ between cash and credit-card payments. This we found unethical: We believe in paying tax. Maybe Takumi doesn't realize that its taxes pay for such as the upkeep on Lancaster Avenue and on the traffic lights outside the mall. Without that upkeep, it would be harder for diners to patronize the restaurant. Then, when we paid with a credit card by tapping on a pad provided by the waitress, the box for a 20% tip was already highlighted. Just signing my name committed me to paying it. The default, then, is to give a 20% tip. This we also found unethical. The amount of the tip is supposed to be at our discretion. If these things matter to you, the Yelp reader, you might decide not to patronize Takumi. read more

What a disappointment, on so many fronts. We came to Takumi upon the recommendation of our friends at the Main Line Food Group and we had high expectations for the service, menu and overall experience. Unfortunately, the entire experience, from the food to the service was highly disappointing. Upon being seated, we waited 15 minutes for a waiter to come to our table. No one arrived so I had to ask if someone would be serving us. My wife ordered a glass of wine and the pour was less than the standard 5oz. I couldn't believe that when the bill came that the charge was $14 for such a tiny glass. When the meal came, no one brought soy sauce containers and after waiting almost 10 minutes for our waiter, I got up and had to request containers from another waitress. Both my sushi and my wife's sushi was prepared incorrectly. No one came to check on how our meal was and we had to request the check from another waiter as our waiter disappeared sometime during our meal. The worst part? The owner/manager promised to make the situation right by inviting us back. Despite 5 follow-up attempts, he has yet to respond and has made no effort to rectify what was a horrible dining experience. Do yourself a favor - save your time and money and enjoy one of the many other Main Line sushi spots instead. read more

It was nice to find a place with decent Uni from Hokkaido. The service was a bit off. We walked in and didn't have a reservation. We were told they are usually too busy for walk-ins. This was odd because they were new. So not really a baseline for "usually." Additionally, there were plenty of tables and bar seats open. We ordered a couple of the top-tier appetizers, like the Toro toast and the Uni with scallops along with a large roll. To our surprise, everything came out at once. This made us feel very rushed. Then the waitress tried to convince us that it was better all at once. When we were leaving, we noticed there were specials on a separate sheet of paper. We were not informed or given this paper. Came here while for a Saturday night dinner while i was visiting family in Philadelphia. I chose this place because the menu seemed well rounded. The decor of the restaurant is pretty cool. The noise level was not bad either as i was able to hear myself think and also able to hear the server when he approached the table. I appreciated that there was no DJ and they were not blaring the music to club-like levels. I had two drinks while dining (wish i could remember the name of the first one) and the presentation on the first one was pretty cool but the ratio of alcohol and mixer was way off. I felt i had more mixers than alcohol and the big block of ice didn't help the drink either. My next drink was a makers and ginger ale and that was too sweet, as if they put more ginger ale than anything. The food though? It was definitely A1! The sushi was fresh and the presentation and was great. I would definitely come back but possibly on a weeknight. The place is somewhat versatile. Takumi surprised us with their impressive services and the freshness of their food especially the sashimi and sushi. Overall Takumi is a solid 4.5 from the food to ambiance but the consistency needs a bit of work. Their spicy creamy tum yum seafood soup was a good spicy level on one night and wasn't during a lunch service. We enjoy spicy food and hope it will be consistent with each visit.
