Still my "go to" place in Munich. The food is great, and the experience is even better. Service is friendly, but definitely at a leisurely pace. The indoor space is classic old school German decor, and the beer garden is spacious and full of fun, families, food and beer.
Great sprawling bier garten with indoor and outdoor space. There's an area for self service and a separate area if you want tk be waited on. Lovely summer atmosphere.
My wife and I were on a five day trip to Munich and a friend of mine recommended this beer garden. It was packed at 7 PM on a Tuesday and I ordered half a pork knuckle. I also ordered a beer of course and the service was great. I loved the outside feel on a perfect day. The pork knuckle had lots of meat and a crispy skin from roasting. Delish! There were tons of people enjoying their company and drinking some great German beer. You have to go here if it is nearby. A true German classic!
This is for the Augustiner beer garden not the hall..and this is the place to go if you want the massive outside beer garden experience. People sitting and enjoying their day and their beers everywhere. Like a huge picnic. Some even brought tablecloths for their tables. Amazing experience. You funnel into the beer and door are, fill your tray, grab a beer and pretzel, check out and pay then find a table. Repeat if you like. We ate heartily, had big beers, and relaxed for quite awhile to take it all in. Great way to end our little beer tour.
Great location, great atmosphere, great experience - only consistency could be better. Service was fast and food delicious but beer was never properly filled to the mark and the same dish looks different, depending on the kitchen it came from. Still five stars as the rest was perfect.
Augustiner Keller is one of those places in Munich that effortlessly blends tradition, atmosphere, and great beer. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by the shade of old chestnut trees and the lively buzz of both locals and visitors. It feels authentically Bavarian without trying too hard. The highlight, of course, is the Augustiner beer from wooden barrels--smooth, fresh, and easily among the best you'll find in the city. The food matches the quality of the beer: hearty classics like roast chicken, pork knuckle, and Obatzda, all prepared well and served in generous portions. Nothing overly fancy--just solid, traditional Bavarian fare done right.
We went to both the beer garden and the restaurant here and enjoyed both experiences. Generally, this is is an absolutely huge space. It's a five minute walk from the train station but feels very tucked away. Lots of trees and shaded nooks to explore and relax - a very comfortable spot. Restaurant: we sat outside on a pleasant patio and received prompt and friendly service. The beers we had were delicious, and we were happy that the restaurant had a bit more variety than the typical beer hall. We shared spatzel and a salad with breaded chicken breast - both were well prepared and refreshingly light compared to other meals we have had. It made for a pleasant afternoon. Beer garden: we liked that there were options for both self service and table service. Self service has a cafeteria style place for food and drink. Less options for non pork eaters but we grabbed a pretzel and beers and were happy. Service was admittedly grumpy but it was the day before Oktoberfest so I can imagine the stress. All in all, two enjoyable afternoons!
Excellent Bavarian food! This is the kind of restaurant I envisioned visiting in Munich. It looks like a place you'd find replicating Bavaria in Epcot. The Augustiner Beer is my favorite so far in Munich. I ordered the Hefferweitzer and loved it. I am not a beer drinker. At all. But when in Munich... The sausage was good (even if it doesn't look like anything special). I ordered the Bavarian raviolis which was okay. Someone at our table ordered the pork knuckle which was served roasted with crackling skins and dumplings. The food is very heavy leaving no room for a sweets at the end. I consider the beer as my dessert. The place is huge. Multiple levels with outdoor seating. Private rooms available for large crowds.
Close to the main train station and a little bit of walk from Old Town, Augustiner-Keller is an authentic beer garden. Aside from the occasional bus load of tourists who get dropped off here, this is mostly where locals go for a beer garden. The grounds are huge, with luscious green trees covering some areas, and live music playing. The ambiance screams summertime in Bavaria. What I like about this particular beer garden is that there is a service area and another self-serve area. I prefer the self-service area, because you can pick and choose what you want from a cafeteria-like line-up instead of trying to figure out what each item is on the menu. Even with an English menu, it's not always clear what it is until you see it. With self-serve, you can. We got the roast pork in gravy with red cabbage, sausages with potato salad, and cheese spätzle with fried onions. All were pretty good considering they came from a cafeteria line-up. The roast pork came with some crunchy cracklings too. The potato salad had a good tang. The cheese spätzle was like the German version of mac n' cheese with fried sweet onions on top -- the ultimate comfort food. Note: Augustiner beer is only available in 1L mugs. This beer garden is family-friend too, as evidenced by many young children drinking beer with their parents... I mean, there is a children's playground.

This restaurant is absolutely massive!! Definitely the largest dining hall and Biergarten I've ever seen! It's lively and full of good vibes. Everyone around us seemed to be having a great time. I started with the asparagus cream soup and it was peeerfect! Rich and creamy just how I like it. We also shared the Tiroler Bergbauernsalat, which came loaded with bacon, croutons, lettuce, Parmesan, and mushrooms. It was fresh, hearty, and hands-down the perfect salad with a glaze of balsamic vinaigrette. Of course I had to get the pork knuckle, it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Absolutely delicious! I also ordered the Pfefferschnitzel, thinking it was going to be a classic fried schnitzel, but it turned out to be grilled. That one was on me... I misread the menu. :( Unfortunately, I didn't like it. The noodles on the side was bland and boring. The peppercorn sauce was too thick and not very flavorful. I'd definitely skip that one. Overall, the restaurant lives up to the hype. Worth stopping by!
Very old, traditional, and classic Bavarian beer garden and restaurant. This is a popular place so the staff hustles. Ate lunch here before an event and wanted a traditional dish. Co-worker had the pepperschnitzel with spaetzle. He said it was excellent. I had the wienerschnitzel with potatoe salad. It was spot-on! It doesn't any better than this.
This venerable establishment features both a nice biergarten outdoors and an indoor beerhall (a fact my wife and I discovered when the biergarten was rained out). Inside has a great, classic look with a large dining hall and stage, and another area that's smaller and exudes warmth. As far as the food, it's quite good. I would say its probably better than the other big, well-known biergarten in town that's probably more known with tourists. In particular, they do a good job on the crispy pork knuckle, as well as good braten and sauerkraut. And, of course, they feature their Augustiner beer, a product of one of the big four brewers in Munich. All in all, I highly recommend it. read more

An astonishing display of bier drinkin'. As one of the oldest beer gardens in Munich, Augustiner-Keller is definitely worth a visit for a traditional German meal or kickin' back a couple of liters (yes, liters!) with your friends! You have the choice of either sitting down in the restaurant area (indoor and outdoor sitting available) or the bier garden which also serves food. We had two of the lagers and an early dinner. This was definitely a much needed break after a day of exploring. All in all, enjoyable food but 5 stars for a true Munich experience and an energetic atmosphere under a canopy of chestnut trees. We stopped in for a relaxing jovial dinner after a long travel and walking day. The atmosphere was lively on a Saturday evening with a good sized crowd. Service was fine when we requested. They left us alone for the meal unless we needed them. The food was fantastic! I had been looking forward to schnitzel for a few days and theirs did not disappoint. It was a few minute walk from the train station and easy to fine. All around perfect experience! read more
A classic beer hall in Munich serving rich Bavarian food. And Augustiner Beer. What's not to like? We went on a cold evening in February, so we did not see any of the outdoor festivities... looks like it would be good fun in good weather outside. Inside... was a big beer hall decorated with lots of antlers, long tables, quick service... just what you would expect. Compared to their more famous neighbors (HBH)... * AK seems to be the more "respectable" beer hall. It's not nearly as loud or touristy as HBH... yet still a fun beer hall. Nice to be able to carry a conversation without shouting. * The food is better at AK. The pig knuckle was crispy on the outside, great flavor. German potato salad tasted more fresh. It's the same beer hall fare... but a step up in my opinion. * Fun atmosphere, friendly people, quick wait staff (much more so than HBH) and the Augustiner Beer is very good with the Bavarian food. * No oompah band! I have to admit... I did love the oompah band at HBH. No live band here at AK... but still a fun time. It is definitely worth the trip to Augustiner-Keller, as an interesting comparison to HBH or a good time on it's own. read more
This place is an absolute Müchen must-positively amazing. As a foreigner here, it certainly has the ambiance of stepping back in time. Right in the city center and yet feels so far away - especially at -8C this place is the place to be. The beer, the food, and waiter and waitresses, it's genuinely good fun and absolutely reasonable price. Everyone know's German sausages, but it's the duck that is AMAZING - share everything with your party and taste the diversity. A STRONG recommendation!!!! read more

Beautiful gardens located in business office buildings behind train station of Donnersbergerbrucke on Arnulfo 52, Munich 80335 Germany. Perfect day to eat outside with 87 degrees and a nice wind. We ordered a goat cheese, fig and rosemary tart to start. When the drinks arrived we were informed that it was all gone. We ended up with another tart of sour cream, bacon and onions. It was presented on a wooden board like a very thin pizza. Not what we expected when we read "tart" and was good but not as described. We both ordered the Weiner Schnitzel with potatoes. After seeing so many plates pass by displaying this meal we couldn't resist. So glad we capitulated as it was perfect. Light breading and fried without being greasy. Potatoes were hot, crisp outside and soft within. When asked for our choice of dessert we just couldn't order anything because we were so full from the entree. Pretty amazing. Kind of a touristy thing now. We ended up in the cellar/keller with some very drunk German tables celebrating and having a good time around us. The beer flowed like a river all around us in the low light of the hall. The food was delicious as far as traditional foods go. The pretzels/bretzels were just that right balance of tough/chewy, salty/savory. The beer didn't feel like it had that much alcohol in it and you just kept wondering why empty beer mugs were in front of you. The ambiance is great. Times visited: 1 read more

Schnitzel was amazing! My only complaint was we didn't get enough bread/ pretzel to dip in our cheese starter, and it arrived at the same time as the food. I'm not a huge fan of beer but everything I tried was great, despite the small language barrier. As an American, this place felt super authentic and the atmosphere felt really to be exactly what Germany is all about. The heat lamps are SERIOUS and kept us warm all night. If I ever returned to Munich I would absolutely return. My whole party enjoyed all their food! read more

The beer garden is spectacular. Be prepared to wait for outdoor seating. If you're inpatient like we were. We opted to sit in the indoor beer hall which was also a great Oktoberfest atmosphere. The staff are all multi lingual so they are tourist friendly. We ordered 2 helles and 2 pretzels. They gave us small pretzels and they were hard and tasted old. The beer was fantastic. I'd give them a 5 if it wasn't for the pretzel. Overall would definitely suggest visiting! read more

This beer hall was just beautiful. The food was very good, and the beer was pretty good. I really like that if you come here alone, they seat you next to people with whom they think you will have good conversation. Nobody eats alone and that really makes it a fun experience. They seated me (an American) with two American college students, a businessman from Liverpool, a family of four from South Africa, and A couple from Canada. Although everything looked great and tasted good, the beer definitely didn't blow me away and it was all definitely more expensive than what I paid for the same thing at a small, local place. Also, after being treated with extreme care and attention to detail on arrival, the service at our table was actually pretty bad. It took a long time for all of us to get a second and third beer, and our food was really slow coming out. Of the touristy beer halls in Munich, though, this was my favorite and I hope to return one day. They had TV there when I went but that was during the world cup, and if i remember correctly, they were projecting it onto a temporary screen. read more

Loved this place. I can see why the locals told me to go here rather then one on the outskirts of town. An easy walk from our hotel and a fantastic time. Food was outstanding and the staff was more then friendly. Oh and the beer is outstanding. If you get a chance and some time stop in here you won't be disappointed. read more

This is a great place in München. My favorite in fact. It's fun and the food is delicious. People sit there for hours chatting and enjoying great food. Lots of beer obviously but social types. For us non drinkers the Apfelschörle is top notch and recommended. Everything was delicious too. Cant' go wrong. read more

Great tourist attraction. Huge biergarnter, good ambience but just mediocre food. Super salty. I had the schnitzel and was ok but salty. The sauerkraut was gooey, no bueno. Service is also meh. It's a must but don't expect much. Cheers read more

Great environment for groups! Got there around 10pm and the garden was still full. Had couple 'bad' attitude responds, or even ignorance, from the waitresses when asking where to sit and how to order. Turns out it is German speaking culture where people find a table themselves and waiter/waitress will come and serve afterward (correct me if I interpret it incorrectly), and it's certainly different to people from a culture where you wait and to be seated by waiter. The food was excellent and so does the beer. The portion is huge so think twice when ordering main courses while looking something to share, especially needs to leave some space for the 1L beer. read more

The Augistiner Edelstoff beer is a fantastic traditional Bavarian beer. The garden seats 5,000, so don't be discouraged if you see many people when you first enter. In the States I would hesitate to wait at a restaurant where so may people were also waiting, but just ask a server to be seated and there is plenty of room for even the largest of groups. They have menus in English. They also have a nice playground in the center of the garden. read more

One of our friends recommended we try out this traditional German beer garden and oh man, what a treat! I would love to be here during Oktoberfest. We sat outside and had some traditional German beer in large mugs and shared a plate of bratwursts. Need I say more? We sat in the shade and enjoyed. Only complaint was we were so thirsty we had to ask for and pay for a bottle of water. Totally worth it to visit this place, and very affordable as well! read more

Authentic Bavarian food from a great brewery! The pork knuckle is friggin AWESOME! So tasty and portion size is just right. Several of the other dishes were also great. The beer by the "mas" or liter is a must. I mostly had the weisbier (wheat beer) but the dunkels (dark, ale type beer) was also pretty awesome. The prices for food and drink are better then average for the quantity you get. I'd say in a 3-week time span we went to either this Augustiner or the neighboring locations around 8 or 9 times. I was in Munich for a week and visited pretty much all of the beer gardens. Keller is by far my favorite. The atmosphere is good, plenty of outdoor seating, especially in the communal areas. Service was prompt and the beer was great. I stopped here when I first arrived and Keller was a must stop before I left. FC Bayern was playing the Friday before I flew out and there was a huge crowd. I ended up sitting with a party of Russians laughing and yelling and talking about things Americans do (They had never been but want to go). Augustiner-brau is by far Munich's most popular beer and rightfully so. It is clean, refreshing and easy to put down. You must come here and have a liter of beer and some food! In the summer, forget sitting inside - sit outside and socialize. Just FYI - if anyone is alergic to bees or hornets, every so often you'll see them buzzing around. So keep your coaster on top of your mug. Cash is the preferred form of payment but all servers take plastic. Prost!! read more

Really REALLY good totally worth it Not a big fan of sourkraut but it was sass amazing here soo good and not so tangy. Really think you should come it's a cute beer garden ! We got on the top tables so we were able to see down at the other tables and the beer goes does sooo well!! read more

Based on the reviews, we tried going inside but were told they're at capacity (didn't say we could wait, just told us to sit in garden area). Outside area was nice, weather was perfect, waiter was fine (he was pretty busy so didn't have too much time for my indecisiveness lol) everything I had my heart on ordering based on reviews and pics on yelp were for inside restaurant-- not available outside. We had good meal (nothing to write home about)and beer was enormous and great!! Loved the place, highly recommend based on just the overall experience - but do try to eat inside!! read more
