Still my "go to" place in Munich. The food is great, and the experience is even better. Service is friendly, but definitely at a leisurely pace. The indoor space is classic old school German decor, and the beer garden is spacious and full of fun, families, food and beer.
Great sprawling bier garten with indoor and outdoor space. There's an area for self service and a separate area if you want tk be waited on. Lovely summer atmosphere.
My wife and I were on a five day trip to Munich and a friend of mine recommended this beer garden. It was packed at 7 PM on a Tuesday and I ordered half a pork knuckle. I also ordered a beer of course and the service was great. I loved the outside feel on a perfect day. The pork knuckle had lots of meat and a crispy skin from roasting. Delish! There were tons of people enjoying their company and drinking some great German beer. You have to go here if it is nearby. A true German classic!
This is for the Augustiner beer garden not the hall..and this is the place to go if you want the massive outside beer garden experience. People sitting and enjoying their day and their beers everywhere. Like a huge picnic. Some even brought tablecloths for their tables. Amazing experience. You funnel into the beer and door are, fill your tray, grab a beer and pretzel, check out and pay then find a table. Repeat if you like. We ate heartily, had big beers, and relaxed for quite awhile to take it all in. Great way to end our little beer tour.
Great location, great atmosphere, great experience - only consistency could be better. Service was fast and food delicious but beer was never properly filled to the mark and the same dish looks different, depending on the kitchen it came from. Still five stars as the rest was perfect.
Augustiner Keller is one of those places in Munich that effortlessly blends tradition, atmosphere, and great beer. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by the shade of old chestnut trees and the lively buzz of both locals and visitors. It feels authentically Bavarian without trying too hard. The highlight, of course, is the Augustiner beer from wooden barrels--smooth, fresh, and easily among the best you'll find in the city. The food matches the quality of the beer: hearty classics like roast chicken, pork knuckle, and Obatzda, all prepared well and served in generous portions. Nothing overly fancy--just solid, traditional Bavarian fare done right.
We went to both the beer garden and the restaurant here and enjoyed both experiences. Generally, this is is an absolutely huge space. It's a five minute walk from the train station but feels very tucked away. Lots of trees and shaded nooks to explore and relax - a very comfortable spot. Restaurant: we sat outside on a pleasant patio and received prompt and friendly service. The beers we had were delicious, and we were happy that the restaurant had a bit more variety than the typical beer hall. We shared spatzel and a salad with breaded chicken breast - both were well prepared and refreshingly light compared to other meals we have had. It made for a pleasant afternoon. Beer garden: we liked that there were options for both self service and table service. Self service has a cafeteria style place for food and drink. Less options for non pork eaters but we grabbed a pretzel and beers and were happy. Service was admittedly grumpy but it was the day before Oktoberfest so I can imagine the stress. All in all, two enjoyable afternoons!
Excellent Bavarian food! This is the kind of restaurant I envisioned visiting in Munich. It looks like a place you'd find replicating Bavaria in Epcot. The Augustiner Beer is my favorite so far in Munich. I ordered the Hefferweitzer and loved it. I am not a beer drinker. At all. But when in Munich... The sausage was good (even if it doesn't look like anything special). I ordered the Bavarian raviolis which was okay. Someone at our table ordered the pork knuckle which was served roasted with crackling skins and dumplings. The food is very heavy leaving no room for a sweets at the end. I consider the beer as my dessert. The place is huge. Multiple levels with outdoor seating. Private rooms available for large crowds.
Close to the main train station and a little bit of walk from Old Town, Augustiner-Keller is an authentic beer garden. Aside from the occasional bus load of tourists who get dropped off here, this is mostly where locals go for a beer garden. The grounds are huge, with luscious green trees covering some areas, and live music playing. The ambiance screams summertime in Bavaria. What I like about this particular beer garden is that there is a service area and another self-serve area. I prefer the self-service area, because you can pick and choose what you want from a cafeteria-like line-up instead of trying to figure out what each item is on the menu. Even with an English menu, it's not always clear what it is until you see it. With self-serve, you can. We got the roast pork in gravy with red cabbage, sausages with potato salad, and cheese spätzle with fried onions. All were pretty good considering they came from a cafeteria line-up. The roast pork came with some crunchy cracklings too. The potato salad had a good tang. The cheese spätzle was like the German version of mac n' cheese with fried sweet onions on top -- the ultimate comfort food. Note: Augustiner beer is only available in 1L mugs. This beer garden is family-friend too, as evidenced by many young children drinking beer with their parents... I mean, there is a children's playground.

This restaurant is absolutely massive!! Definitely the largest dining hall and Biergarten I've ever seen! It's lively and full of good vibes. Everyone around us seemed to be having a great time. I started with the asparagus cream soup and it was peeerfect! Rich and creamy just how I like it. We also shared the Tiroler Bergbauernsalat, which came loaded with bacon, croutons, lettuce, Parmesan, and mushrooms. It was fresh, hearty, and hands-down the perfect salad with a glaze of balsamic vinaigrette. Of course I had to get the pork knuckle, it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Absolutely delicious! I also ordered the Pfefferschnitzel, thinking it was going to be a classic fried schnitzel, but it turned out to be grilled. That one was on me... I misread the menu. :( Unfortunately, I didn't like it. The noodles on the side was bland and boring. The peppercorn sauce was too thick and not very flavorful. I'd definitely skip that one. Overall, the restaurant lives up to the hype. Worth stopping by!
Very old, traditional, and classic Bavarian beer garden and restaurant. This is a popular place so the staff hustles. Ate lunch here before an event and wanted a traditional dish. Co-worker had the pepperschnitzel with spaetzle. He said it was excellent. I had the wienerschnitzel with potatoe salad. It was spot-on! It doesn't any better than this.

***4.5 stars rounded up*** Originally, I was going to give this place 4 stars, but it actually ended up being my favorite beer hall that we visited on our recent trip to Munich. The reason for only 4 stars was their Kasespatzle, which was by far the saltiest I tried during my stay in Germany. It was too salty to eat actually, leading me to believe that I just got unlucky with a bad batch. Food aside, the ambiance here was unrivaled in comparison to all other beer halls that we went to. We visited all of the major ones and had the most fun at this location. Upon arrival, ask for directions to their downstairs basement. This place is huge, with a variety of options to sit and explore, but I believe their basement is probably the liveliest area to drink at. We enjoyed a mass of beer and pretzels here while taking in the atmosphere. The basement kind of feels like a cave, and the spiral staircase down is seemingly endless. You wouldn't want to be down here when an earthquake hits, that's for sure. That being said, the fun and lively ambiance, decor, and drinking shenanigans awaiting your arrival are top notch. This was a super fun experience, and a spot I would definitely go to again next time I'm in Munich. read more
This place has been brewing beer since the 1300's. What??!?! German beer just goes down so much better. Have yourself a pint. The waiter are all quite fluent in English when needing help in ordering. Also, I tried a roasted beef with gravy, potato dumpling and warm red cabbage/sauerkraut. Every....last....item was delicious. Go there, you won't be disappointed. Since 1328!!! Oldest beergarten, walking distance from Munich central station. They have self and full service section. If you want a server service, don't sit at self service table. I must admit their beer was good. Smallest size is 1 liter and I ended up ordering second. I am not a much of beer drinker but I had two, that's how good it was. Food here wasn't too bad, Schnitzel is pretty good. Service is standard traditional beer garten. If you want service, speak up! They will be sure to take care of you. read more
Parents looking for a place to sit back and enjoy good beers and tasty food while your kids play.... THIS IS THE PLACE! This beer garden is nestled in the middle of the city, but feels like you're in the forest. The place is enormous. There is literally a large section with a great playground surrounded by picnic tables and tall trees. Most of the tables in the restaurant are serviced by a wait staff, but if you sit on the picnic tables you have to go to the designated self-serve area to get your food and drinks... it took us a while to figure this out. Good food, good beers, and good play structures... what more could you ask for?!? I wish we had something like this in Southern California!!! read more
Go. Just go. Mutliple times, if your schedule and the weather allows. Beer Gardens are hands-down my favorite part of Germany, and Augustiner might just be the crown jewel of beer gardens in Munich. Truth be told, the other beer gardens I've visited in Munich have all been lovely too (looking at you, Lionbrau) but Augustiner was the first beer I'd tried in Germany (in part because it's a favorite of my companion) and it will always have sentimental value. Not to mention, Augustiner is over 200 years old, so it's a part of history. My first few visits to Munich were off-season and the Augustiner garden was closed, so I was so thrilled to finally get to hang out here. Anyway, the beer is plentiful and plenty good, and you can get roasted fish and ginormous pretzels and other traditional German dishes, and hangout for however long you'd like while enjoying. You can easily spend hours here, just drinking in the sunshine and having a nice time with your buddies, and you definitely should. Don't pack your schedule so full of activities that you don't have time to chill out in the beer garden-- or else cancel a few things on your to-do-list and order yourself another massive stein. read more

I am so happy my bf and I had the impulse to go here. Unfortunately, we had been given bad service at a different restaurant 2 nights before and were feeling a bit out of place/discouraged about going out. Thankfully the staff at Augustiner-Keller really made us feel welcomed & treated us so kindly. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with excitement & seated promptly. Our server was awesome & his mood was infectious! The food, omg... it was delicious!! It was my mistake to not combine the schnitzel & cranberry sauce until the end; do it! It is the best combination. The potatoes were so tender & well-seasoned. For dessert we shared the dampfnudel. Its the perfect size to be shared and like everything else we had that night, delicious. Of course, the beer was just as great ! Best beer we had while in Munich! Overall, the atmosphere is fun, welcoming, and warm. I would fly to Munich specifically to visit this restaurant again (no exaggeration!) read more

In our experience, the garden was overwhelming the staff was no help, and they showed no interest in being helpful. For example, there is a self service and regular service section, but the distinction was not clear. We tried to ask where to sit, but the staff literally wouldn't turn their head to look at us to respond. We approached 3 different people. In the self-serve section, there was a language barrier as we don't know German. So much so that we're unsure whether my beer was alcoholic or not. And, the pretzel had a screw in it. The absolute gold standard of Munich beer gardens. So massive, and so historic. Can seat over 3000 outdoors, another 500 indoors upstairs, and 500 downstairs in the cellar halls. Beer = AMAZING. Food = AMAZING. SERVICE = also AMAZING. Good times, fun and happy vibes all around. Plenty of booze flowing, great traditional German foods (schnitzel, wursts, etc etc). We ate, we drank, we had a blast. We sat down in the cellar hall, enjoyed the live band, it was community seating and we had a very fun table of business-folks that were on travel and one local friend of theirs. Everyone was nice, the food and the community table pretzels were incredible and the beer flowed like rivers coming from heaven. Prices were not really bad at all. I had 2 0.5L beers, my wife had 3 wines, we shared 2 entrees, an app and she got a chef salad (which made people for three tables around us laugh out loud!) plus we ate god-knows how many pretzels ($1.30 Euro each I think)...and the bill was $75 euro ($85 US) which isn't awful. We had a blast. It was very easy to find only a few minutes walk from the Bahnhof (train station) area, and close to our hotel. If you want a traditional Munchen beer hall...this is IT! read more

The Keller is an outdoor bier garden. This time of year it can be very busy if the weather is nice. The prices are very reasonable the food is typical German good quality considering the amount they go through. Get a haxe read more
I feel like this is a must-do thing, if you visit Munich. That being said, it is ok. The atmosphere was pretty cool and they had live music. It really gets busy. But as with every place in Germany, people can smoke outside and if you don't care to smell that, since it's an outdoor beer garden, you're going to deal with that. I had to try the schweinshaxe - I will admit that the crispy skin was tasty but I usually don't eat skin or dark meat. The meat itself is darker but the flavor was good. It came with sauerkraut and a potato dumpling - all good, just so carby. My husband had the mix plate which is 1/2 schweinshaxe and a piece of chicken. HIs side was potato salad - super tasty! If you don't have a reserved table, you are seated with others that you don't know at large tables. Which is kind of cool. We ended up sitting with 2 girls from Ireland, so chatted with them. *Also, note that if you walk further in, instead of waited tables, it is a cafeteria style where you can walk through and get what you want. The cost is a bit less and you can get a chance to eye the items instead of ordering blindly. We didn't notice this until after we ate. read more

This place is impressive and you get the true beer hall experience. There is a large inside as well as outside seating during the nice weather seasons. I thought the fest beer was excellent (Augustiner is one of the original Munich breweries and it's oldest) so was the Weißbier. I had one of the Wiesn specials which was a venison roulade dish. It was tasty but the meat was dry (a little over cooked). I didn't care for the flavor of their dumplings at all, but the red cabbage was excellent! Highly recommend the Bavarian vanilla pudding dessert (which also happens to be gluten free!) it's light and the perfect amount of a little sweet at the end of a savory meal. They have gluten free bread and a handful of GF items marked on the menu. They also mark their menu with lactose free items. We came here during Oktoberfest and the atmosphere was lively but not out of control. Service was very good. read more

A great stop if you want to do a traditional beer hall and are exploring Munich. I think many disregard both here and Hofbräuhaus as they feel it's touristy, but sometime things are touristy because they are good to do so everyone wants to be there. This location is near the Marienplatz and on the walking mall, so a great stop while you are out. This was my second stop here, once with a larger group and this time to grab a small bite & beer after the Christmas Markets. The food is good and solid, not going to be the very best meal you can ever get but good for some traditional options. The beer is good and they offer multiple sizes if you are up for the full liter. This trip we all had the goulash with potatoes, a plate of the potato salad and then beers. The goulash was tasty, had pieces of pork and then potatoes in a red broth and in a good potion for the price. The potato salad is amazing! The Bavarian traditional potato salad with a vinegar base instead of an America mayo style (I prefer the vinegar by far). Come here to talk and laugh and drab a drink & a bite and enjoy the traditional beer hall style you hope for when thinking of Germany! read more
We were four American tourists visiting during Oktoberfest. We were seated immediately and they provided us English menus. Service was a little slow but there was plenty of entertainment since they had a band playing. Overall the atmosphere was amazing. Beer was good and the food was good as well. Would definitely recommend to check it out during Oktoberfest (we went the first Monday night of Oktoberfest), can't speak much about other times. read more

Good Bavarian food and beer in a historic beer hall. They've been making beer for several hundred years, so they know what they're doing. I appreciate they let you order 1/2 liters of everything. We had pork sausage with sauerkraut and Bavarian meatloaf (it's more like ham than American-style meatloaf) with potato salad. Excellent service and be sure to check out the dancing coopers on the chandelier! read more

Delicious traditional food!! Ambiance is awesome. It's like a cozy beer hall. Great for big groups. The portions are large. We could have split each entree that we ordered by two. Everything was well seasoned. They make a really good Radler! I definitely recommend this place. Yum! read more
This review is overdue but simply put it's my favorite brewery in Munich. Augustiner consistently has the #1 ranked Helles in the world however any of their beers are amazing. My only qualm is it's incredibly difficult to get here in the states. This specific location has a beer garden that can accommodate about 5,000 people making it the third largest beer garden in Munich. Their food is standard traditional German cuisine but it's done very very well. The Schnitzel or pork knuckle are two of my faves. If you're here for Oktoberfest, this location is a little out of the way (north side of the train station) but it's well worth a ci read more

Augustiner-Keller was probably my favorite beer, brewery and beer hall/biergarten experience while I was in Munich for Oktoberfest. The historic building is an amazing tour in of itself. The Augustiner Hell vom holzfass "from a wooden barrel" was the best beer I had in Germany. The food was enjoyable and the service was among the best I had in Munich. I enjoyed my time here so much that I actually made multiple visits even though I wanted to try as many different places as possible while in Munich. The outdoor biergarten is truly massive as it seats literally thousands of people and is certainly a sight to see while the inside has a lot of character with the depths of the downstairs also full of some great things to see as well. read more

Why 5 stars? Because this was our favorite sit-down dinner in Munich. --- --- --- We were on the hunt for a place to eat dinner on a Friday night, and we were coming to realize that it was not going to be an easy task. We tried another brewery first, but it was absolutely packed with no end in sight on the waitlist. This one had a similarly high Yelp rating, so we figured it wasn't a bad consolation destination. When we first arrived, it looked like it was more of the same - super crowded from corner to corner. We were frustrated and about to give up, when we realized there was outdoor seating available - phew! The service ended up not being the quickest out here, but it was definitely better than having to find another alternative place to eat. The food ended up being really great, too! I ordered the number one seller, which was pig and duck. It came with those things that looked like yellow balls and red cabbage. I'm still not sure what those yellow balls were, but they were awesome, as was the cabbage. My meat wasn't as tasty as the sides, but was solid. My wife ordered spaetzle, which I really loved. Her salad was tough to eat, with the lettuce not being chopped up, but I really liked the dressing. And of course, it's a brewery after all, so I had to indulge. The dark beer went down easy. It's obvious that they do some serious partying here - maybe during Oktoberfest? They outdoor area next to the restaurant is absolutely gigantic with picnic tables as far as the eye can see. In order to walk to the restrooms, I had to pass by all of this, and could only imagine how insane this area must be once it's full of rowdy Germans. The restroom was definitely set-up for efficiency to handle such crowds, as the toilets were giant, old-school troughs. Glad we ended up here, to finish up our experience in Munich! read more
Out of all the beers, they had the best. Very smooth and a little on the sweet side (that review comes from my boyfriend since I'm not a beer drinker). Our castle tour guide recommended this place and the food was good but service was VERY slow. Later found out that they were extremely understaffed so the speed of service was not our server's fault; he was just spread too thin. We were a party of 2 and they sat us at a table for 4 with 2 other random people. This may be a German thing, but Americans are not used to that. Nonetheless, it was nice to meet new people and we made the best of meeting new German friends. Would have given this a 3-star review but the friendly server and good beer and atmosphere saved this review. I love eating outside and it was the perfect October night. read more

Came here on my last night in Munich and was so impressed with this spot. The food was outstanding, my boyfriend and I had dinner in the outdoor dining area and everything about it was great. We sat at a community table next to some locals who recommended some classic dishes and they didn't steer us wrong! The sausage sampler was super good, I loved the variety of different kinds. After we ate, we went to the beer garden which was so fun and lively and had such a cool atmosphere. I wish we had come here before our last night in town, because I definitely would have come here more than once. read more

G-O-O-D G-O-D This place is SEHR GUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's be real, Augustiner-Keller is one of the best beer gardens in the entire world. If just one city in the United States had Augustiner-Keller (Which is impossible, because Americans would never be comfortable with 15 year olds having a liter together) you would never hear the end of it. With something like 10,000 seats, some of the best soup and food I've ever eaten, and, of course, beer that can make a beer lover cry with joy, Augustiner-Keller is a world class establishment in a city fortunate enough to have this be their culture. An absolutely stunning environment, the trees, the green, the stairs, the chairs, Dr. Seuss could easily have made a story about this place. Thank god for Augustiner-Keller, and with any luck, or just good karma, I will return for another life changing visit!!! I love you Augustiner-Keller, and thank you for loving me. Hotel concierge recommended this place because my mom wanted to try the famous pig knuckle. Food was great and we were a little confused about the seating process but if you do go, it is seat yourself! Just find a table and sit down--people will go to you. The pretzels were free of charge so eat your carbs away. We ordered the pig knuckle, salad, salmon steak, and Wiener schnitzel with two beers and a radler. What a feast! The food was delicious and my mom really enjoyed the pig knuckle, especially the sauerkraut . The Wiener schnitzel was great as well especially paired with the cranberry or mulberry sauce. Though it started raining halfway through, the large umbrellas and heaters helped keep us dry. Loved the atmosphere! The beer garden is HUGE. Must stop by if you're visiting Munich! read more

Really an impressive space here at Augustiner. Our first night it was raining so we sat inside and we were amazed at how it could be so big but still feel like an intimate beer hall. The community style tables and open seating leave it pretty wide open to find a spot wherever you want. Just like everywhere in Germany the beer is fantastic no matter what you choose. I had the pork snitzel, Weiss wurst and Apple strudel in my 2 visits and each was exceptional. This is definitely one of those times where I wish I could have tried more! The outdoor space has the "Wow" factor. I mean it might not be as amazing for people from Munich or those that are used to this kind of size for outdoor beer gardens, but for the rest of us it is a spectacular site. One side is self serve, meaning you go to their walk-up area grab what you want then pay and take to your table, while the other side has a server. It's a minimal price difference for service so pick whatever you want with little cost impacts. The huge playground has got to be a win for parents too. It's pretty cool and is surrounded by tables so it's easy to watch the kiddos. Great spot, absolutely loved it! This definitely the atmosphere people are looking for when they think Bavarian beer garden. read more
We came to Augustiner-Keller based on the recommendation of a German friend, and it was really great! The space is wonderful with so many trees and plants making it truly a beer oasis in the city. The special including asparagus with steamed potatoes and hollandaise sauce with cooked and raw ham was fantastic and recommended by my friend as it was asparagus season. A perfect choice! I also really enjoyed the Weißbier beer. Everything was so great here! read more
