Know before you go…read more.. Let's just start by saying that I am a big fan of German food, and given that there just so few German restaurants around, when I find one I get excited to try it. Initially, I was hoping to dine here with my wife on a Monday evening, but the online hours said they were closed. So we drove downtown into the Dells to search out somewhere to eat. As we drove past Hofbrewzhaus, I saw that they were actually open, so we excitedly parked and walked over. The exterior is really nicely done, and it looks modern and up-to-date, as if someone was really excited about what they were doing. Having heard they had 30 or so German beers, I was excited to try something I don't often get. My first hint that something was odd was when we walked in the door, and the wall in front of us was done up with Colombian flags and other such South American decorations. I was confused, but we continued in to the bar area, where we met a friendly Colombian (?) woman wearing a t-shirt that said "Prost!" Businesses in the Dells are known for having a lot of foreign employees, so again, this didn't throw me off too much. She sat us at a table, and served us, and was very friendly and sweet the whole time. We tipped her well. When we opened our menus, however, I quickly noted that page 1 was German food (and it was a somewhat limited menu), and page 2 was Colombian food (and it was a jam-packed, extensive menu). I ordered beer, and it took about 5 tries to pick something they actually had! Somehow, I managed to pick--again and again--the beers they were out of. Bit of a bummer, but I suppose it happens. Still, it's never a good feeling when you can't trust the menu... Anyway, I got schnitzel and my wife got something Colombian. I had ordered the schnitzel sandwich (which was around $14) and was served the actual schnitzel entree (which was $22)...but oh well. Look, none of this is really a complaint...service was good, the food was ultimately fine. The beer (once I found one they had) was good. But it was nothing special. And if you're looking for an authentic German experience, this was about as authentically German as the kids running around Wizard Quest down the street are authentically wizards. About as authentically German as Mt. Olympus Waterpark is authentically ancient Greek. About as authentically German as Kalahari Resort is an authentically southern Africa safari experience. Which...I suppose...fits the Dells...

Definitely NOT the freshest fries. They were not crisp, they were soggy and EXTREMELY dark brown. They were thrown into the trash. My daughter ordered a pretzel with LIGHT salt. The pretzel was loaded with salt. Store bought, boxed pretzel. Nothing fresh about it. Now the funnel cake. Very thin & small. Horrible place to eat at. The owner was nice, food was awful.

Mind you, my mom has just been diagnosed with cancer, so this was our last family vacation before she starts treatment and I move up here from Indiana. The girl asked if it was her birthday, I said "well more like a get well soon gift", and she wrapped it up with a pink bow, I never told her she has breast cancer. When she walked over to me, I kind of started tearing up so I wiped my eye, and she gave me the biggest hug. It was one of those hugs you give your best friend after learning some bad news. I don't remember her name, but I will never forget this

Very kind staff, usually all of them are pretty young and respectful. Minimal seating if you're planning on staying. The fancier chocolate and behind-the-counter candies are a bit overpriced for the quality you'd expect (for those items I'd recommend going into one of the resort candy shops) but it's a fun atmosphere.

She questioned me ordering a pizza... from a pizza restaurant. Then she could not find nacho cheese for breadsticks on her computer even though another appetizer included it. She also made me question ordering marinara for breadsticks... when it comes with it. The pizza and sticks were good. But the experience ordering it after an exhausting day of traveling and one baseball game left me a little frazzled.

It was a cute German bier garden vibe inside an old church with lots of stained glass windows. How fun! The beer was as expected and service was relatively quick. The weisswursts were not served poached as they are in Germany. I'm not sure if it's due to having another style of preparation or just the cook overdoing it, but the sausage was very dry and overdone. Neither of us that ordered it could easily peel the skins off either. The sides were so-so. I would have been happy with just two poached sausages and a pretzel as the entree like in Germany. Oh well. The chicken schnitzel was reported to be good from another member of our party. Overall, the vibe was cool and I'd go back again for drinks and maybe a pretzel, but I'd look elsewhere for dinner.

A must visit in Madison! The food is great and the beer is tasty…read more Came in early evening on a Wednesday. It was pretty empty. They have a wing deal - 15 wings and 2 pints for $25. We got the Korean BBQ and Habanero. The habanero is SPICY!! My mouth was burning after two wings. I always get the APA beer. Classically delicious! Luckily we walked because parking can be tricky to find. Service can also be a little hit or miss. Today our server was a lil forgetful.

Situated on the corner of Doty and King in downtown Madison, Great Dane is a welcome sight for any visitor or local looking for a chill spot to have a solid drink, tasty bite and/or a good time! The pub is one large space, but it is separated into a few unique areas. One side is quintessential pub with a long bar, lots of dark woods, and a good sized dining room. The other is more of a pool hall vibe where you will find the other side of the bar, several pool tables, lots of TV's, high tops, darts, etc...We have bellied up to both sides of the bar and while I like both sides, I prefer the vibe of the pub side. They have a fairly extensive food menu with several bar/pub classics such as wings, nachos and burgers. But they also offer a good variety of sandwiches, bowls, salads, soups and even tacos. While we are normally here for the drinks, we do enjoy the cheese curds, wings and poutine! Speaking of drinks, they always have a great menu of house cocktails that is constantly updated for seasonality. I have had several iterations of cocktails and since I visit a few times a year, I always get to try new seasonal cocktails and beers! I love their empanadas, but this past time I went I had a plastic shard in my food. The server was nowhere to be found and we ended up finishing them, being careful with each bite. I showed him and he basically did nothing. When he brought the check he mentioned it was a shard from their meat prep container, but didn't offer to replace or remove anything from the check. They had a hostess who did nothing since its seat yourself, would've been better to have had her run food or check on tables.

Look I get it's a "resort-like" atmosphere; but absurdly overpriced food for a kids resort is not the same justification as prices in Maui or Miami. Toss in kids sitting at bar screaming and a barely mildly interested mgr/barkeep and I'll do hard pass on this place next time. No meal under $17 and I'm talking burgers, wings and other items that should have some cost value. A big miss on this menu too. A Cesar salad with salmon will set you back $25 Chevy food at Cadillac prices. Look elsewhere if you don't have kids and want a sporty atmosphere
