This was the perfect way to start our trip to Wisconsin! The beer selection was wonderful. The food was delicious. Definitely a place to check out if you are in Madison for any length of time. Definitely has upper class dive bar vibes in the best way.

Every time I visit Madison, it is an absolute guarantee that I will be stopping by The Great Dane Pub...most trips more than once! Great Dane Pub has become one of my favorite spots in Madison for a variety of reasons from the drinks, vibes, service and community support! Situated on the corner of Doty and King in downtown Madison, Great Dane is a welcome sight for any visitor or local looking for a chill spot to have a solid drink, tasty bite and/or a good time! The pub is one large space, but it is separated into a few unique areas. One side is quintessential pub with a long bar, lots of dark woods, and a good sized dining room. The other is more of a pool hall vibe where you will find the other side of the bar, several pool tables, lots of TV's, high tops, darts, etc...We have bellied up to both sides of the bar and while I like both sides, I prefer the vibe of the pub side. They have a fairly extensive food menu with several bar/pub classics such as wings, nachos and burgers. But they also offer a good variety of sandwiches, bowls, salads, soups and even tacos. While we are normally here for the drinks, we do enjoy the cheese curds, wings and poutine! Speaking of drinks, they always have a great menu of house cocktails that is constantly updated for seasonality. I have had several iterations of cocktails and since I visit a few times a year, I always get to try new seasonal cocktails and beers! Service is always stellar here, no matter what side of the bar you are on. Welcoming, friendly and helpful...every time! Overall, I am an absolute fan of The Great Dane Pub!

A Madison area classic strikes again! The Great Dane has always been a great stomping ground for myself since my college days and they have not missed a beat since! Great place to go for solid food, delicious beer, and good times.

    Baja Fish Tacos! Right on!

We headed here with the intention of having lunch before the beer festival and take their comp bus. So we had lunch here around 11am ish and I had their Baja Fish Tacos. I added an extra 1 for a 3 pack and what a great call I made! They were fresh and delicious! I passed on the beans and some of the rice but the salsas they provided were straight fire! Time for the shuttle after lunch but whoops, too crowded! So we did a cab and that was fine. Our server was friendly and did forget a few things but they were crowded but y'all still get a 5 star rating. We'd def come back next time we are in the Capitol city.

Apparently this restaurant used to be much more acclaimed, and particularly the burgers have gone downhill recently. Well I got this vegetarian wrap and it was really good. Drink was decent too. Nice place to go with family because of the chill venue and lots of menu options, but be warned that your food might be poor and I might have just gotten lucky. Staff are average/friendly.

Popped in for happy hour on a work trip and stuck to appetizers! Naturally we had to go for cheese curds because...Wisconsin. They were good and the aioli dipping sauce was unique! We got the chicken nachos - they were really good, but could have had a bit more chicken especially since it was an upcharge for meat. The soft pretzels - real winners! I think we could have gotten away with just the pretzels instead of the whole board because that's what we focused on. The service was great, and prices also great. I'll definitely come back to try something else next time I'm in Madison!

Once again Great Dane is on my list to revisit. It is one of the few large places in the capital area that a large group can drink, eat, sit, and talk at. We had a large group and they had the reservation signs out for us. Some of us got food, most got drinks. The staff person continued to check on everyone for hours. The cheese curds, pretzel, and jambalaya was above average. The jambalaya was huge and came with a large amount of bread. It wasn't quite New Orleans but it was better than most Midwest attempts. The shrimp was surprisingly good. For beer I didn't love the i5 but enjoyed the vanilla earth canned porter.

We loved the vibes at Great Dane - sat at the bar and enjoyed some cocktails - including a notable speciality fall "Apple Pie of my Eye" Martini - it was delightful and reminiscent of those caramel apple pops (suckers) in a drink. Our bartender was so attentive and engaging. Highly recommend a visit!

Cannot say enough good things about this place. The vibe, the tables, the bartenders, etc. all of it is superb. If you live within walking distance of this place and aren't coming by for a beer and some pool, you should be!

Quick pit stop in Madison. Great Dane was our choice. The cheese curds were delicious! My strawberry lemonade was great! I had the Mediterranean plate. A little out of the norm for me. I really enjoyed the chicken flavor and the pita. Not the best felafel I have ever had. Good portion for the money. No parking, relaxed vibe. Our waitress was very nice. Decent spot.

My third trip to The Great Dane was a bit underwhelming. For a starter, my partner and I got the Brussels sprouts, which were supposed to be seared and crispy. However, they were smothered in the aioli, which gave them a soggy, slimy texture. Though the texture was unpleasant, the taste was fine. We probably won't be ordering them again, but if we do, we'll be asking for sauce on the side. I got the mac and cheese again, which wasn't as great as the last time I ordered it. The sauce was a little looser and it lacked the rich, cheesiness that I loved about it. Service was mediocre. Our server seemed like she was trying to rush us out of there. I'd understand if it were busy, but this was 4:30 p.m. on a Sunday with half the restaurant empty. She brought us our check without asking when we would have ordered a slice of the peanut butter cheesecake for dessert. Had she been slightly friendlier, I would have felt comfortable asking to place a dessert order. But alas, we didn't want to stick around in a place that didn't feel too welcoming. Though the food and service were just alright, the ambiance was great. The Great Dane is such a cozy and classic spot. Next time I'm in Madison, I'll still stop in again.

The cauliflower wings were pretty good, probably our favorite dish out of the three. The truffle mac and cheese was okay, definitely a very strong essence of truffle and kind of liquidy rather than thick and creamy. As nacho connoisseurs, we were not fans of these ones at all. Beer cheese does not belong on nachos particularly with limited other toppings! Everything besides the bread part of the bread pudding was better - ice cream, whipped cream and strawberries. It was quite a bit dense and low on cinnamon flavor! Even a bit heavier caramel drizzle might've helped the case. I liked the Garden Party cocktail and we liked the mule, mojito was not our favorite. Seems like the tacos are popular and drinks were decent so would probably come back during happy hour for the cheap eats! But other than that would probably skip out during meals.

It's the perfect place to spend a relaxed afternoon -- good beer, friendly staff, and a laid-back vibe that's never too crowded. The space itself is great -- high ceilings, big windows that let in tons of natural light, and a nice open layout. The outdoor patio overlooking the pond is especially beautiful when the weather's nice. It's also dog-friendly, which we love! Our pup is always happy to come along, and we even picked up one of their dog toys from the merch area -- easily her new favorite. They've got some fun merch for humans too. The beer selection is solid, with something for everyone. We've really enjoyed the Lil Louie Lager and Badger Club Amber, and they always have a few rotating taps that keep things interesting. The staff has been consistently friendly and welcoming every time we've visited. If there's one area for improvement, it's the atmosphere. The space itself is awesome, but it sometimes feels like it's missing a little energy I'd love to see more events, live music, or themed nights to bring the place to life. It has so much potential to be a real community hub. Overall, Wisconsin Brewing Company is absolutely worth checking out great beer, great staff, and a beautiful, dog-friendly spot to unwind. With just a little more happening in the space, it could easily be a five-star destination.

The cheese curds at this place used to be hand battered, but now seem frozen. The dipping sauce was a nice compliment, but not the most fresh. The kids loved their Dino nuggets with fruit and ranch. The Mac and cheese was buttered noodles with sprinkle cheese and didn't have an actual cheese sauce, we would not recommend. Everyone else at the table got some version of the fish fry. The haddock was cooked well and the portion was adequate. The fish sandwich was undercooked/doughy and was not good. I did like their tartar sauce and thought it balanced the fish well.
