I had to wait five minutes to get my money back and even then it took three men trying to figure out how to do the refund. It was $40 for two burgers and one coconut water. The person who ordered before me also went up to the counter once she had gotten her food because they messed up her burger as well after she had also waited 30+ minutes. Cute Black Owned Vegan restaurant right off Nostrand. I love coming here every time I visit Brooklyn. The music is always on the right playlist, the aesthetics give an inviting atmosphere to want to stay for longer, & the food completes the mission of good vibes. I love their vinyl/retail area, very loungy. They have a cute little bar area as well. I recommend the Bake & Saltfish, French Toast, Lobster Roll, & The Fish Cakes. I'm generally pretty skeptical of vegan restaurants, not because I believe vegan food can't be good, but because in my experience a lot of vegan places fall into the trap of trying so hard to imitate meat that they forget to highlight the flavors/textures of the actual plant ingredients. Aunts et Uncles does not have this problem-- all the food was super flavorful and well-seasoned. My favorite was the cauliflower, which def has a bit of a kick to it but was roasted perfectly and the sauce was delicious. Also enjoyed the spicy "chickn" sandwich-- thought the breading/oyster mushroom ratio was off (a bit too much breading) but that was a minor thing and I liked the sauce. Pretzel bun was good; first time having vegan cheese and the texture threw me off (lacked that melty softness that I associate with regular cheese) but the flavor seemed accurate? Fries were well-seasoned, wish they were a bit more crispy though. Ambiance of this place is super cool, I love the decorations and it just feels so cozy inside, but the music is pretty loud. We also ordered a side of potatoes, which, disappointingly, were not crisp. This came out to about $60, including tip. The space itself feels open and airy, casual. A fair amount of books on Black and African issues. Restroom was clean. Service was friendly. But -- and this is the reason this place gets three stars -- quite slow. It took us about 40 minutes from entry to getting the food. And there were only four tables being served. We sat next to a group of four who had ordered before us, and who did not get their food for another 15 minutes after we got ours. So the food comes out slow. And it's not good enough to justify the trek from Manhattan. My sense is that if you're a local looking to hang out, this is sort of a nice place, as long as you're ready to spend an hour and a half here. But if you're from another borough, it's hard for me to justify the time and the cost, especially when there are other great vegetarian and vegan options elsewhere in the city. read more

This sandwich was a 10/10, I believe the menu stated its a fried oyster mushroom - the consistency of it is so realistic as a crunchy, crisp sandwich. I've had other mushroom burgers and this exceeded my expectations by far. The sauce that comes on the burger is so unique to taste and yummy. The French fries are seasoned so well, you honestly don't need sauce but it did pair well with the garlic aioli sauce. I had the cucumber ginger drink which was so refreshingly good for my ginger lovers. The service was awesome, everyone was nice and attentive. When I was lucky enough, to do my Brooklyn Yelp takeover last year, I included their amazing and flavorful vegan food in this. The tovoli taco is my favorite hands down! It's flavorful, it's 'juicy', it's perfect. It was about to convert ya girl to a vegan! Baybeeee. I've also had their pasta with the vegan crumble. It was a kick and is slightly spicy but so good. Covid protocals were in place vax card required and asked for by our wonderful waitress Nokaya. She gave us some recommendations on food items and told us about the plaintain chocolate chip cookies not on the menu. We ordered right away and enjoyed our delicious drinks. Yelpers!!!! Seating for about twenty indoors plus some outdoor seating. Full bar with some wines and canned beers. We shared the crying Ryan cauliflower and the loaded fries. Cauliflower was super flavorful but too tender. I was hoping for more of a crisp. Fries were great! Crispy with a Cajun seasoning and then loaded with various vegetarian toppings. I really liked how the fries came out. For my main course, I had the bake and salt fish. The salt fish was made of hearts of palm. If you like bakes or doubles then you'll like this sandwich. Hearts of palm were diced and mixed in with lots of other stuff to bring plenty of flavor. I'd say it was on the sweeter side. Everything was quite filling. I have been wanting to try this place for a while now and since I was in Brooklyn, I figured this was the perfect time. It wasn't crowded, but every seat was definitely taken. It was so good I didn't want to finish it. I had an alcoholic beverage, but I can't remember what it was and I don't see it on the menu. It was delicious. I got my dessert to go, which I think was a bad idea because I don't think I put it together in a way that made it tasty. That just means I have to go back again and try it in house. To hear the owners tell it, Aunts et Uncles is so much more than a Caribbean plant-based cafe, but a community space and retail store all rolled up into one. Step into the pastel space bedecked with gold accents, lush tropical plants, and mid-century modern furniture, and you feel compelled to stay awhile, though not without a reservation first because the cafe has grown ever more popular over the last year since they opened. If you go at the right time you'll meet the owners, who are as fashionable as the cafe is chic, but Aunts et Uncles is not all looks without substance, no. Try any of their dishes or drinks and you'll be convinced. If you only try one menu item make it the mac n cheese, which has no cheese but is made creamy with the help of coconut milk, and some toothiness comes from both the al dente pasta and a bit of cauliflower. The addition of white truffle oil is not overpowering but complementary, making every bite incredibly satisfying. While named for its crustacean-filled counterpart, the sandwich with hearts of palm is not quite like a lobster roll, but the fact that it doesn't try to imitate one makes it much more satisfying. I suppose 'hearts of palm sandwich' doesn't have the best ring to it but we can move right past that and talk about the flavor, which was bright, refreshing, with a bit of creaminess from the vegan mayo and mixed with a whisper of dill. The toasted pretzel bun brought it all together. They have a short menu of espresso drinks, wine, and some expertly made cocktails that I also enjoyed. I have brought a number of visitors here and vegan or not, everyone has left pleased. If you can try to reserve a table, because eating in their beautiful space makes having their unique food feel all the more special. read more

It was my first beyond burger ever, and I could not tell the difference between this burger and an all-American hamburger. It was so extremely juicy and tender, and the extra slice of cheese I got tied the whole burger together. The pretzel bun was also excellent. I love myself a good pretzel bun. It was light and fluffy, and the outer skin was firm yet easily breakable for an easy bite. My roommate ordered the mashed plantains, and she really enjoyed them! I liked that the dishes also came with a small pile of greens and some kettle chips! The interior is also suuuuper cute. What a vibe. It very much feels alive inside the restaurant. It feels like you're at one of your favorite neighborhood shops that also make a really good breakfast! They fill up quick so I suggest making a reservation. Being that everything on the menu is Plantbased I was shocked to see salt, fish, and bake while I really did enjoy the bake and the flavors. The texture threw me off a bit because it just tasted like a vegetable sandwich was more shredded like actual salt fish however, my friend got the breakfast sandwich and she really enjoyed it, most folks were ordering the pretzel or mushroom sandwich. We ordered the Mac and cheese, So Simple Sandwich (with fries, of course!), Lobster Roll and Bake and Saltfish, and everybody really enjoyed their food! The So Simple Sandwich is messy, but delicious, and the non dairy Gouda cheese tasted surprisingly like the real thing. I can't believe I've never posted a review of this place. This is definitely a must visit for (vegan) restaurants in NYC. I have eaten and ordered here too many times to count. The food just tastes incredible! I have developed such a love for some items that it is so hard to try something new, although my goal is try everything at least once. The Cryin Ryan might very well be the best roasted cauliflower I've had. It's smothered in a flavorful peanut sauce. I'm not even a fan of peanut butter like that but this one is something else. I do wish they had an alternative for those with peanut allergies though. The So Simple Sandwich is anything but, it's almost magical in how it incorporates so much flavor in one sandwich. The Au burger is bomb! It has good flavor, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I prefer the Smashburger more but both are delicious. If you order a burger or sandwich don't forget to add fries; they are amazing! The Mac and Cheese is what probably started my love affair with this place. It's indescribable just go and get you some!
