I have been to the restaurant a few times. I have been for brunch, lunch and dinner. The food is always great and delicious, albeit a little pricey. However, the staff leaves a lot to be desired, depending on who you get. The one lady is always rude and takes name down for brunch but then calls people in random order. I also do not like that they charge extra for credit cards and they put an automatic 20% tip. The most recent trip, I wanted to order creole BBQ shrimp but they had removed it from the dinner menu. However, they made a custom coconut shrimp with tamarind sauce and it was really good. It was around $28. My friend ordered the fried catfish ($28) and loved it. The mac and cheese and fish was done well and worked together. I got the bread pudding ($14) and thought it was okay. It was tasty but to me it needed something else. It wasn't very sweet and it was big enough to share. In my opinion, their fried chicken is the best, and I wish they would offer it all day. The restaurant is nicely decorated and it has one bathroom which was clean.

Some friends and I met for brunch on a cold Sunday afternoon. You are served on a first come basis. We waited around 30 minutes for a table. The staff were very cool and friendly. A few of my friends had frequented this spot a few times before but this was my first time. The table ordered pancakes with chicken. Me and my friend had the fried chicken sandwich with French fries. Another friend had the fish. We also ordered the salmon hash that definitely stood out from all the food. We all enjoyed our meals and the overall vibe of the place. We saw the owner working and moving along with the rest of her staff. This is definitely a spot to check out and i look forward to returning to check out some other menu items.

I'll start off with.... The pancakes were AMAZING... I also had the omelette, chicken sausage, and home fries, which were good as well... but the pancakes are definitely Top 3. The service was amazing. I came solo but my friend decided to join, and they were so pleasant and very attentive as I waited for her. The servers were so great. I wish I had gotten both of their names. I usually ask when it's great service. I had already been seated and they allowed me to sit there until she arrived. I ended up ordering before she got there and once she arrived so I made it worth while. The restaurant is small but there was seating inside, out front, and out back. So overall it was very spacious. I will definitely return.

It is a small quaint place. Not overly expensive. I was able to get a nice meal for a little under $30. The staff was personable. The service was great. I glad that I finally made it here albeit for a late lunch. Next up, I wasn't to try their brunch. I heard that its delish.i was starving so No food pictures. By the time I remembered my plate was clean.

I had been wanting to visit this spot for a while to support a black owned business but unfortunately, this would likely be my first and last visit. I came for brunch with a large group and we were seated fairly quickly, which I appreciated. The place was full and the vibe was good. However, things got confusing early on. We were different brunch menus. One included soups and salads, and the other didn't. I asked the waitress about ordering a salad, and she let me know that I had the wrong menu and that salads weren't part of the brunch menu. That said, she still took my salad order with a side of roasted salmon hash. When my food came out it was underwhelming. The salad was okay, just a basic mix of greens, and the salmon hash was okay, but tasted like it was missing something. The biggest issue came with the payment process. Prior to ordering, we were told they only accept three cards per group and cash, which was fine. However, when I went to pay with Discover, I was told they don't accept that card. I believe the Discover detail should've been shared earlier. Overall, staff were accommodating, but the experience was just okay.

This is one of those restaurants that I've sworn to try for YEARS but kept putting it off. Yesterday, I was in the area and decided to finally give it a try and I'm glad I did. I got the iced gingerade and the special burger. The gingerade is so refreshing. It's made with ginger, lime, and I believe brown sugar. The special burger came with gruyere and a spiced red onion jam and perfect fries. The servers were really attentive and friendly and the decor/ambience was very relaxing and chill. I'll definitely make a trip back!

Visiting from Seattle and visited tonight, this is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to! The catfish and salmon were sooo good, and the bread pudding at the end was to die for. The service was incredible, everyone was so kind and funny. They were so accommodating, and we felt so comfortable asking for anything we needed! It had such a calm and comfortable vibe too. HIGHLY recommend!!

I just love Cheryl's. Fantastic place for soul food in a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere [1]. I've only come here for brunch on weekends, and I never had an experience that was less than stellar: from the food, to the people, this place is just great. Perfect place if you want to grab a bite after visiting the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, the Central library, or on your way to Prospect Park. The outdoor patio is great for a relaxing brunch in spring/summer, and the inside is nice and cozy in the winter months. Some of the items I love to get here are: -Three Eggs your way, Bacon or Sausage, Home Fries and Toast (the pork sausage is really tasty) - Poached Eggs over Salmon Hash, Hollandaise Sauce, and Seven Grain Toast - Spinach Cheddar Tomato Omelet or Brie Scallion Tomato Omelet - Fried Fish Sandwich (tilapia, lettuce, tomato, tartar sauce, on a brioche bun) There is also a kids menu, with dishes such as four silver dollar pancakes and scoop of vanilla ice cream, or the brioche French toast with maple syrup. I never had a dish here that I didn't love and would not order again. I also appreciate that prices are still very much affordable. This is a neighborhood spot that is very popular with local residents; as such, there is often a line. 18% gratuity is added to all checks, independently of the number of people in your party. -------------------- [1] You can read more about chef/owner Cheryl Smith here: https://www.cherylsglobalsoul.com/the-chef

Everything was so good. We were seated quickly and the food came out pretty quick as well. I'll definitely be going back to try more.

This is an excellent place to grab a meal before or after a visit to either the Brooklyn Museum, or the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Why? 1. It's right around the corner. 2. The food is great. That's all you need to know, really, but here are three other things I'm going to tell you anyway: 3. The jerk pork bowl is SERIOUSLY spicy. I found it hard not to yell at my very nice server when he set down a bottle of scotch bonnet hot sauce, because my entire face was already on fire. But the jerk pork is also seriously tasty, so I'd get it again. 4. The veggie chili is pretty solid. I would probably never order it, but my mom did, and it was actually quite delicious, and a good portion. 5. They have a kid's menu, and all their meals come with milk or juice. My kid got milk, and I almost stole it to cool the flames on my face (capsaicin is fat soluble, and dairy works great).

Pancakes & Crispy Fried Chicken. Really good. ($20).

Nice happy hour and a large chocolate drink selection I was at this unique Guatemalan (ish) restaurant a while back with one of my groups. I said "ish" because the menu has dishes from all over, ranging from sandwiches to BBQ ribs to Guatemalan and Mexican soups. It's out there, and even though not everything works that well, it's fun, and if you can't find something you want to order here, you probably shouldn't go out to restaurants. There was also live jazz music that night, which was loud but nice to listen to. Since it was happy hour, a bunch of us got drinks. I went with a maracuya margarita, which was decent; someone else had a jalapeño margarita, someone had a beer, and someone had a mojito. There were a few nice hot sauces on the table, with the red one reminding me of salsa macha as it had a smoky kick and a spicier green sauce reminiscent of ají verde. They gave us some complimentary blue corn chips and a very mild black bean dip, which was tasty enough and hard to complain about, as it was free. From the appetizers, we got the Hot Figs for $15.95, consisting of honey goat cheese, corn tortilla chips, and plum + pumpkin seeds. This was a unique and fun blend and reminded me more of something you would find in a wine bar. The mix of sweet and salty, with a bit of crunch from the seeds, was nice. This was good, and I would recommend it for a table rather than for a solo diner. There was also The Zingy Salad for $21.95, featuring zucchini spirals, yuzu, tomato, onion, cilantro, pumpkin seeds, and a jalapeño infusion. $18.95. The salad was fine with a bit of crunch and a mild spiciness. It was fine, though a bit wet, for lack of a better word. The best dishes of the night were the soups, which each had its own distinct flavor profile. My sight presence went to the Pepián for $21.95, consisting of chicken, pumpkin/sesame seeds, green tomatillo, cinnamon, cumin, black pepper, carrots, chili coban/pasta/guaque, and potato + rice. There was plenty of tender chicken inside, with the soup having a nice roasted flavor with some spice and a bit of sourness. The potatoes and rice on the bottom added more sustenance to this dish. Almost equally delicious was the Caldo Tlalpeño Rojo for a dollar more with shredded chicken, tomato, black pepper, garlic, onions, peas, chickpeas, corn, achiote, chipotle, Monterey jack cheese, and crunchy blue corn tortilla chips. By comparison, this was a bit heartier, with the melted cheese and shredded tortilla chips inside, similar to soups found in Mexican cuisine. While I also liked the mix of veggies a bit more in this one, as it added a bit more texture, I still slightly preferred the flavor of the other soup, as I usually prefer a bit more spice. The rest of the food was fine. The TPC sandwich for $19.95 with chicken, peanut butter, coconut cream, ginger, cilantro, pickled carrots, and lime was fine. For the number of ingredients, I found it a bit sweet, likely from the cream and the peanut butter mix. The bread was nice, but it also fell apart. It came with a nice side salad with a good vinaigrette. The most expensive at $24.95 were the Slow Cooked BBQ Ribs, consisting of baby back ribs with rice and beans. The ribs were almost a bit too tender as they lacked any bite, which was nice, but the sauce was a bit too generic tasting, reminding me of Sweet Baby Ray's or something similar. The rice and beans were standard. This was also OK. Next came some dessert. There was first the $12.95 Rosemary Churros served with dulce de leche & chocolate dips. While I'm not sure if it worked, the rosemary did add a unique smell and a bit of flavor, and at least it wasn't generic. The churros themselves were hot, and the sauces were standard, with my preference being the dulce de leche. I also ordered a Champurrado for $7.95, which was fine. It wasn't as thick as I expected, though perhaps the style is a bit different than the champurrados I rarely buy from Mexican street carts. The chocolate flavor was very nice, though, and I like that it wasn't too sweet. Another person got a $4 Alfajor, which I got a bite of, which was standard. This place is a bit hard to rate. The two soups were wonderful, I liked the appetizers, and I found a couple of the other dishes just OK. Overall, it was a good meal, but I'm not craving to go back. This would be the perfect 3.5, but I'll round up as that doesn't exist.
