I had heard a lot of positive reviews on Yelp about their meat pies and decided to get their pies. I would give them 3.5 star. Must say that the pies are good but they are not close to the real NZ or Aussie pies. Firstly they lack the crispiness of the outer crust and they are not too juicy. Secondly for the size and portion the prices are very high. Overall I must say the experience is overrated. Either they bring up the food quality and portion or I am not coming back...

Mince Pie ground beef-- frozen, reheated at home

I went to a foodie festival at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena a few months ago and saw a booth for Aunty Devi's. I was so hungry and there wasn't a huge line in front of her booth. When I saw that they sold meat pies-- I was like hey why not, not knowing this was a popular San Diego treat. The people who were working the booth were super friendly. I tried the steak and ground beef and told them how good it was. They're a good size (think the size of a hand) and flavorful. I even bought 2 frozen ones to go to bring home for a rainy day! They said they even ship across the country :)

LOVE these meat pies! I get them every year during the Escondido Renaissance Faire through Oscar's food booth which has these, and they are the perfect on-the-go food there while I'm running around as a pirate. During this COVID-19 ordeal, the Esco Ren Faire was cancelled, so I was sad I couldn't get my meat pie fix, but then a friend told me that they had frozen delivery available! My mind was blown, and my stomach was grumbling, so I messaged and put in an order right away. Got them, and this past week my taste buds have been in heaven! They cook perfectly in my convection toaster oven, perfectly crisp and flaky. I'm burning through my stash pretty quick though, so I'm gonna have to put in another order soon. You should try them if you haven't! You won't regret it!

Australian Meat Pies rank in my all time top 10 food items, New Zealand pies aren't too far behind. I've known about Aunty Devi's pie factory in Escondido for a long time, but it's never open when I'm available. When I was at the Poway Farmers Market this past Saturday they had a pop-up stand selling both hot and frozen pies. I bought a few frozen to take home. If you can, unless you have a toaster over, try to buy your pies already heated up. The cooking instructions were not very effective and I had to cook frozen ones longer than expected. The pies were great and are a perfect size for lunch or a snack. - Mince Pies are my favorite - Steak. Cheese, and Jalapeno = Hot!!! Tip If you're in North County ( during a weekday ) you can call the manufacturing plant and have them heat up your pies so they'll be ready to eat when you pick them up.

Good pies! I go to the Poway farmers market as that's the closest to me. They have a good selection of pies, also sausage rolls.

We were looking for their prime product that was already marinated. The following morning, in preparation for a few guests arriving later, I grilled the product and unfortunately found out that the meat counter gave her a unmarinated product. While mistakes do happen, we called the store to patiently explain our issue and asked not for a refund, but a store credit for the next opportunity to get some carne from this small business. Unfortuately, this was flatly denied and the initial offer was a bag of chips or a small container of salsa the next time we came in. We were told by the manager's proxy, Valeria, that since the meat was cooked, it could not be brought back, because? Who knows. If it would have been raw, she said they would have taken it for an exchange or refund. What would they have done with it raw? When I asked how was I to know that it wasn't marinated before cooking it, she had no answer. I made sure to tell her that we have no intention of defrauding the store, and even mentioned I left a glowing review for them in Yelp. After another apology by her, I asked to speak to the actual manager. He declined to get on the phone with me. Curiously, after exclaiming my disappointment near the end of the conversation with Valeria, she offered me 1 free lb of meat but made sure to say she (they) would still be losing $20. With receipts in hand and a calm understanding phone call I was hoping for better customer service for our neighborhood store, but alas, more failure over $40 worth of meat. Too bad.

You get what you pay for, their meat is good. I asked for a specific piece and he proceeded to ignore me and chose the piece that he felt inclined to give me. The piece was a much smaller size. I told him that I wanted the other piece because it was a better size(not too small, not too big). He went on to say that they are all the same size and stuffed the bag with both pieces! Don't know if he's trying to meet a quota! Or just upset that I interrupted his cleaning routine. Granted, it was 7:00PM when I was shopping. I chose another type of meat as well, and made sure to tell him I only wanted one piece of that one. As a customer this experience did not make me feel valued. It made me feel very ignored. He then facetiously started wishing me a good day. I proceed to checkout and let the lady know what had just happened & she graciously mentioned that she could tell him to take it out. I was like that's ok. Just wanted to get out of there. I was very upset and mentioned to her that'll just leave a review. Don't know if she was one of the owner's wives ;), because she proceeded to let me know that management doesn't see the reviews anyways. I responded that this is a review for us customers to see, but as good business management I would think a business would like to see their reviews here and there. Anyhow, $90+ later, for three pieces of meat(one in which I didn't ask for) and a salsa, you bet my bottom dollar that I am going to write a review. *Changed the review to 2 stars. It all worked out on our side of things, but if this situation was to happen again, I will definitely will let that man know that I asked for one piece AND to take the others out. But then again, I highly doubt I will be going back there anytime soon!!!
