I first went to Aurelio's original restaurant in Homewood, IL probably 40 or more years ago. Chicago is a tough pizza town whether you're eating pizza in a pan, traditional thin or tavern crust. While Aurelio's pizza might not technically be considered "tavern crust", it is absolutely one of the best examples of a thin pizza I've had. Over the years, Aurelio's have expanded to many locations in several states and today we found ourselves in La Porte, IN to once again sample pizza excellence. Our large mushroom half sausage came in about 15 minutes after ordering and looked perfect. I was so excited to begin eating I forgot to take a picture so you'll have to trust me that it looked as good as it tasted. We always order a large even though we can only eat about half in one sitting. This pizza reheats so well that we enjoy the rest later or the next day. Hard to describe and even more difficult to grasp if you're not from the Chicago area but real Chicago pizzas have what I call a "purity of Ingredients" where everything goes together so well. Here, the sauce is subtle but dominant. Over the years I've probably been to maybe 10-12 Aurelio's locations and the consistency is unbelievable. Service was great and the pizza was better! Aurelio's Pizza in La Porte, is a great place for pizza. The business is homey, friendly, warm, and inviting. The pizza is really good, especially the thin crust. My girlfriend's and I particularly enjoy the friendliness and the generosity of the people who work there. Very professional, and we dont mind leaving a great tip. Our local union purchases Aurelio's pizza for our union meetings, and the members always look forward to it. Did you know that the cut-out on the top of the take-home pizza box is actually a COUPON?? Amazing Service!! Our high school baseball team was playing in La Porte for the state tournament. We had to win game one to play game two. Pizza was the tentative plan to feed the team after game 2. I spoke to Cameron, the manager, early in the week to get a plan for the number of pizzas we would need and if they could deliver to the baseball field at late time. We also needed to be able to confirm the large order if we won the first game. Cameron was awesome! He was patient and flexible throughout the process and many phone calls to ease my worry. They even changed the delivery time to earlier on short notice when the game went quicker than normal. I highly recommend this location! We were part of a large group that had pizzas delivered to our hotel. Pizza was phenomenal! The stuffed crust was covered in a rich, tangy sauce that I could've eaten in its own. The thin crust pepperoni was just as good. All in all 5 stars. read more

Our family met up for our weekly Blublood Monday. Made reservations for 4:15pm. Cameron was our server, he was so attentive, pleasant, very kind and patient and his smile was contagious. Cameron was really the best server I have ever had. The pizzas were freshly made and piping hot when served. The atmosphere was very calm, and peaceful, was a very nice place to meet and discuss our week we all had. Everyone left happy, full and satisfied. I came here with a couple of friends. Overall the pizza was pretty good, but it took over an hour to get our pizza, and our waitress never came back once to offer drink refills the entire time we were there. I'm giving three stars because the pizza tastes good, but I won't be back simply because of the price. I got a 13' pizza, which is $16 with only cheese, and $2.50 for every vegetable topping. Which is absolutely insane. And $4 for a meat topping?!? By the end of the night, my 13' pizza with pepperoni, green pepper, yellow pepper, and onion ended up costing like $30. And my other friends 18' pizza with pepperoni and sausage was $39. The pizza was good, but not that good to spend $90 on two pizzas after tax, tip, and a drink. read more

We got a order of garlic bread with cheese. It's 4 slices of cheese bread and comes with pizza sauce. We got a large thin crust works minus green pepper add onion on half. So yummy. We also had 4 sodas and total was $45.00. A little expensive but it was very good. Specials would be good for this place. read more

However, after taking our baby there to eat the other night, we realized they don't have a baby changing station in their bathroom. The floor was filfthy. Knowing this, we won't dine here again... it's not ideal for customers with small babies.** The pizza is good, but not worth the TERRIBLE customer service. The employees at Aurelio's are extremely rude to their customers. We've ordered pizza from here a few times, but we're done. Tonight was the last straw. From the time we called to place our pick up order from the time we left with the pizza was a awful. We called to place our order and the girl who answered just says "pick up or delivery?" ... we said pick up... "what do you want?" She never said hi or thanks for calling, etc. We get to Aurelio's to pick up our pizza and we aren't greeted by ONE employee (there are three or four standing close by).... in fact, one of the employees was standing halfway in the kitchen, halfway in the dining room just looking us up and down in annoyance and disgust while we walked up to the counter. I'm giving this place a 2-star because I'm still mad about my order mix up. Upon calling to place my delivery order (to a local hotel), I should have realized something was wrong. The gal on the phone asked me for my name 4 times. I repeated my order just as many times. I was able to find the menu online however no prices, so it was surprising to learn that my delivery bill was $50 when I only ordered 2 small pizzas and the ravioli appetizer. I guess I should have questioned the amount but I didn't - I thought it was a hefty delivery charge. When I received my meal, I didn't get the ravioli appetizer, I got an entire $20 pan of baked ravioli.....what the hell am I going to do with 2 small pizzas and a whole pan of ravioli's for 1 adult and 2 kids in a hotel roll with my fridge!!!!! Aurelio's started as a staple in 1991 at Western Illinois University. The pizza crust is unique in that it has a bakery style crust which generally is crispy and light. The sauce is also unique in that it is a sweet based red sauce that is very northern-italian. On the evening we ordered out, it was delivered to our hotel near by. Pizza is a funny thing because it it great food to order for delivery but always tastes many times better dining in. This was to be the case on this evening. Our pizza was soggy but none the less being that there is few chances I ever get to have Aurelio's - I'll deal with that! The rest of the family - not. They are all health nuts and this pizza is traditionally always greasy. While that works for me - not necessarily other people. You couldn't keep me away but I may have a hard sell next time we're in the area - which is 3 weeks away. read more

I created a YELP accpunt just to write a review for this business. We developed a tradition to go out to eat and get pizza every other Friday. We moved to LaPorte 2 years ago and have tried put the local pizza places. Three weeks ago was our son's birthday, and he wanted to go to "the pizza place with the good cheesy bread," so we took him to Aurelio's that is very close to our house. We waited, not that long, for our table and played some fun arcade games. We got to our seat, got drinks and ordered our food..... And 5 tables that sat after us were served before us. Being patient and respectful, as a former server myself, we went up and asked abut our order. We had had been waiting an hour and a half, and didn't even revive our cheesy bread. The owner/manager asked all the surrounding tables about their service and completely disregarded ours because she knew we had waited for so long. Following the inquiry, we learned that our table was never closed out prior to us getting there and she thought our order "was in." Our server made a mistake. That's fine. I've done it. She corrected it by giving us a discount, bringing our son a freshly baked cookie and taking care of our drinks. ...so, it was a genuine mistake. We went to order pizza tonight, and we had our Aurelio's coupons saved up, so we thought, "let's give it another try." Order went in at 5:48pm. We were told, "45-55 minutes for delivery." And waited.... and waited.... and finally, at 7:20pm, we called in to make sure our order was put in [because of our previous experience]. Good news- our order was in. I questioned why we were told 45-55 minutes, and the girl on the phone doesn't respond but hands the phone off to the manager - who didn't know why she was handed the phone. [Very professional in handing the phone off when I started asking, "why were we told 45-55 minutes... and it's been an hour and a half?" -she hands off the phone]. I worked in the restaurant business. I understand. When I discussed with the manager, I was interrupted, "No one should have told you that time because we are an hour to an hour and ten minutes behind." ...so.... why were we told 45-55 minutes? Manager apologizes, pizza should be delivered shortly. If not, call the manager back. 5 minutes later, we have pizza! Over an hour and half later... about double the time we were originally told. The cheesy bread is cold. It had been sitting a while. The pizza needs reheated. I called back. The manager did right hy offering a credit to our acct or offering to remake our order... but we couldn't have it delivered because the delivery guy, "already has 16 orders." I informed them, that though they are the closest poza to us, we will NOT be returning. Unprofessional. Under staffed. Untrained. This has to be one of the worst pizzas I have ever had the displeasure of trying to eat. What happened to this place? I never thought this place wasn't worth it. I have no clue what they did to this pizza that made it so bad but I was told maybe the new management blah blah blah, there is actually no reason a pizza should be turned into a frisbee. Talk about hard cheese but somehow not burned??? And where was the sauce?! We wanted the garlic dipping sauce also, which got two cups so thank you, but my boyfriend describes it as Miracle Whip with garlic powder it was beyond gross and what was up with that texture we love pizza, we expected some cheesy extra pepperoni'd pie but man was that a sad pizza.
