I am the General Manager of a company that owns 8 box trucks, and when they break down we were using this company to help. I have dealt with the attitude the front desk lady appears to have most of the time, but after yesterday's situation I will not be calling Austex again. My truck broke down on a customer's property, and I was given the commitment when I called that the truck would be towed that same day. I received no updates, or and calls. This morning when I tried to see what happened, I was speaking with the same person (512-670-0700) who booked my appointment, but they were rude and claimed "well we tried to call you 4 times" and I have no missed calls on my phone after confirming they had the correct number. They just simply claimed that they couldn't help me any further due to the positioning of my truck, so they didn't help one bit and offered no help going forward. It's absurd. I really don't have anything negative to say. We had an excellent experience today with this company. So disappointed in my "new" old car-a 2009 BMW. Today my husband was traveling from our house to our daughters to pick me up and while he was in the passing lane of IH35-South my car suddenly quit. No acceleration when stepping on the gas! My gosh he could have been killed but thankful that he had enough speed left to get over to the exit and get up the ramp. So..this is why we needed a towing company. Called at 9 pm on a Monday night after five other towing companies said they couldn't get to me or I was going to have to wait 2+ hours. The woman who answered my call was polite while she took down my information, then said it would be 30 min to an hour. A mere 20 min later the tow truck showed up! Loaded my car onto the bed quickly, dropped it off at my mechanic, gave me a receipt, and that was it! The driver was very nice as well. My experience has been that these guys are either terribly bad or amazingly awesome. I was moving home and had to move an old mini-RV that was not running. It was not that large, being built on a Chevy Astro van chassis, and the air conditioner on the roof brought the overall height to about 9' 6". The first guy they sent came, took one look and said it was too big for his wrecker (a flat bed with 4' deck height). He also said it would be twice as much as I had been quoted. Then he went away saying the company would send someone else. Next morning an enormous 18 wheeler with long low trailer big enough to carry a huge bus turns up. The driver Steve took one look, and could see that there was no way his vehicle could back into my driveway. But he takes time to measure my RV, including lowering the corner jacks so he can get a true height measurement, and calls his office and tells them exactly what was needed. And that afternoon another flatbed wrecker shows up, this time a bigger one with a 5' bed height. Wrong again! State law only allows the overall load height to be 14', so anything with bed higher than 4' 5" was too high. The driver is rude, tells me that there is no way my RV could be moved with any of their wreckers as none of them have a 4' bed height. He adds that Steve (who by now I realize was his boss) "was an idiot". Hopefully that guy no longer works for the company! Finally next morning Steve returns, this time driving a flat bed with 4' bed height. He had decided that after the two idiots they had sent out, he was going to do this job himself, even though he had just worked 15 hours straight and then had to go back to the yard to get the right sized wrecker. He really knows how to maneuver that truck and quickly gets the RV loaded and tied down. At the new house, which had a long narrow curved driveway, he was amazing, using a long telescopic arm on the back of his truck to maneuver the RV back down the curved driveway and right into the spot where i wanted it. He then asked me for less than half the amount I thought the job was worth, So I added a 100% tip. 5* for Steve, but 1* for the other two idiots, overall 3* but beware your experience may vary depending on which driver you get! read more

I got into a wreck on a Sunday, late afternoon. Several tow companies turned me down, said it would be 2+ hrs, or didn't answer at all. But these guys said no problem! They were there within 25 mins and Jim (I think was his name) was very nice! He was fast, and professionally and seemed to feel bad for me- it was my first wreck and I was sad. :( My husband and I felt bad we didn't have any cash on us, we wanted to tip! I drove and parked my car on the street in front of the county tax office and went in to get my new tags, I had just had an inspection Within 3 minutes I received a parking violation from APD. 4 minutes later Aus-Tex Towing & Recovery towed my car with a flatbed. After I paid $218. to retrieve my car, we saw it was NOT drivable; there was a 2" gash in the tire with a 90 degree puncture mark and vertical lines scraped into the front bumper that were not present before towing. Ed the night manager looked at the photos taken of my car before they loaded it up and did not see these damages, he said they would take care of it the next morning. Rodney the manager the next day said they were not responsible for the damages and he would not connect me to any other person in the company. I asked for the owner's contact information and was refused. The tire will cost $175 and the bumper repair will cost $1200. I have a $500 deductible. This is so sad and aggravating that a licensed, established local company will not honor the damages that were incurred when they had possession of my car. read more

ZERO STARS. This company not only has rude employees but has horrible business practices. We had a verbal arrangement with this company to move a storage container. From the first phone call to the last, these workers/owner were not accommodating or professional. It took this company three days and three visits to the site for them to move the container requested and then demanded DOUBLE the quoted price due to THEIR error. I would never recommend this company to anybody I know, individual or company. They are blessed that this wasn't taken to small claims court for their horrible business ethics. read more

Do not use them or believe their prices. $40 tow, $35 unlock. Had accident, car towed less than 15 miles and charged $150 for that plus then added notification fee of $50 (??? as authorized tow) and then an impound fee or $20 (also ??? as car not impounded). Add to that $20/day storage even though vehicle released to insurance after first day. Never mind the inflated repair costs and rudeness on phone when decided not to use them. read more

I had my car towed to the Round rock location in the middle of the night. The gentleman present was kind enough to let me get my things out that night. He told me that I could pick up the car between 8 and 5 the following day. I called ahead to let them know I was coming for it and to make sure I had everything I needed. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle, no one was present. I gave them a call and they told me this location is a storage facility only and that I would need to wait for a person from another location to arrive,in spite of my letting them know well in advance before walking 7 miles in the summer heat.
