Hello Everyone, As you probably are going to read beyond the comments Pangea Real Estate has a rodent infestation problem. Yesterday July 2nd was my move in day, due to my financial institution security breaches, I wasn't able to receive my keys in time due to a lack of possessing a money order. Although I explained the situation to the representative at the agencies office, there was no flexibility for a card payment. I respected the decision because that is the policy of Pangea Real Estate. Today, July 3rd of 2018, I finally received my keys to my apartment by money order first month payment like promised. My key for my backdoor didn't work unfortunately, which is not a big deal. And to my surprise, when I'm actually get into my apartment, I find mice droppings in the kitchen area and a hole in the baseboard of my bedroom. I immediately call Pangea Real Estate Corporate to relay the circumstances. I am told they are putting in a maintenance report and I should also speak to my property manager at the office. I arrive at the office after moving my things in. I explain to representative at the front desk that there are mice droppings in my apartment. She responds that I have to speak to my property manager as previous stated by a corporate representative. She wasn't sure who my property manager was or if he was in the office therefore she would refer me someone who was present in the office. To her and I surprise my property manager is actually there, which I pointed out because I knew his name and realized so by reading his badge. So I inform him of the situation and state that my apartment isn't move in ready due to a rodent issue. He rebuttals that the apartment is move in ready besides the rodent issue. I politely respond that there are no mice on my lease therefore it is not. Instead of first apologizing my property manager became defensive. Why? I'm not sure. So we exchange words and due to circumstances I receive a small amount of compensation credited to my account and ensured that the problem will be resolved by Thursday. Due to my previous knowledge of rodent infestations, I know this problem will persist. One it's the middle of July, rodents usually show up in the winter. I'm also on the third floor so that means rodents are very familiar with this infrastructure. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not move into any Pangea Real Estate apartments. They do not maintain proper extermination tactics for buildings. I know you may be in desperate situation but aim for comfortable apartment because Pangea Real Estate does not possess such things. read more

terrible service, terrible communcation... I stayed at 5042 w Quincy st and it was the worst experience ever. The people upstairs are unbearably loud and the landlord did nothing about it. The ceilings constantly leaks and cabinets had mold. I would recommend anyone to rent at this unit. It's so bad I broke my lease so that I can move somewhere else that is better than what my stay there was. Do not rent with Pangea. read more

I'm in(BROADVIEW property manager (CHANEL L A Y !!!!!) is worst how do you sleep at night knowing someone is suffering under these conditions she don't return phone called and when she do she playing phone Tag !!! After they refused to call and have it released!!! She claimed she called her manager that day and he said he was not getting my car out that had a sticker on it !!! Ok now I have called and tried to come meet with her boss and her for 3 months she ignore the calls lr don't respond all together !!!! DO not rent from these people they move anybody !!! Now mind you this is the 3rd time my freezer has went out in the past month they lazy broke cheap asses knew replacing the motor eveything but the whole dam refrigerator everytime they fix something , something else go out now it's the FAN !!!!! I know one things for sure if I go to corporate and they don't resolve this parking issue with my car being towed I will just be moving no notice !!!! The building is terrible they sell drugs all day and fucking night ! The trash is always outside the garbage can all over the parking lot ! Doors always broke ! And won't lock the phone system is broke !!!!! Our Door at Austin building finally got the parts that the tenants (I, Myself) been waiting on for 9 months, 6 months last year 2020 into 2 months 2021 waiting to get hallway door fix. Which was very neglected to be without a security lock on it. It had to take A Manger of Custodian to see that the Job is a success. It wasn't his job, but he follow on through with it. I've been a tenant for 5 years. I called to set up an appointment to get my parking stickers they don't even have any time available that suits my schedule. They will send you an eviction notice for $1 owed. My laundry room has not been working in a year. My property manager hangs up on me when it's an emergency. This real estate company is the WORST. Just horrible!!! It's going on 5 months I haven't received my backdoor keys!! The door downstairs always unlocked homeless people sleeping in the hall leaving it filthy. I moved in they had my money they knew I was moving! no stove no refrigerator!! Let's not remind you when I came to the apartment with the keys none of them worked!!! That's the first time I seen the landlord. I should have known when I waited an hour for him at the lease signing HE NEVER CAME!!!! He tells me he's changing the locks he will order the back door keys. For him to say months later he was unaware I didn't have backdoor keys!!!! Dealing with Pangea was one of the worst experience I've had w/ a "business". We went to go look at an apartment in Humboldt Park (1357 N. Homan/ 3357 W. Hirsch, at the corner of Homan and Hirsch) in early September. It was a new renovation, the whole building was completely vacant, & it was being shown by a realtor from Touchstone Realty (stay tune for my review of them). We liked what we saw, paid $45 in application fees to the Touchstone realtor and submitted an application around the 2nd week of September w/ the hope that we could move in by 10/1. Things fell apart asap. Issue #1: the money we paid for the application fees was somehow misplaced. The realtor stated it was a mistake on her end and made sure that Pangea understood that the applications she sent in and the money she gave them were connected. Issue #2:We get a call from Pangea stating that we had been approved. Hooray, right? Well, when we called them back to arrange a time to sign a lease and pay them the rent and move in fee, they kept mentioning an apartment in North Lawndale. Yeah, we NEVER even looked at an apartment in North Lawndale, never mind applied for one. I still, to this day, don't know what the issue was, but apparently, according to the Touchstone realtor, Pangea's computer system wasn't updated to reflect that this specific building was available. Okay, that's fine, but WHY try to BAIT & SWITCH us into moving into a substandard neighborhood, into a place we had never seen? Issue #3: Our calls to Pangea were ridiculous. As mentioned, this specific building was not in their system. On top of that, they kept insisting that Touchstone Realty was NOT connected to them. Their exact words: "we're a realty company, why would we use another realty company to show our own building?". Geez, I don't know, why was there a giant banner outside the building w/ Touchstone Realty's name on it? How did our realtor have access to a building that, when we went to go look at it, was still under construction and locked up w/ chains and padlocks? Issue #4: We finally set up a time w/ our Touchstone realtor and someone at Pangea for us to come in on a Saturday at 4:30pm to sign the lease and hand over money. They told us that we could get the keys once the locks were changed. We had our place packed and ready to go, was about to rent a truck and everything. We met at their office located at 17 S. Austin. One person in our party and our realtor was running a bit late but when the rest of our party got to the office before 4:30, the employee there, Brianna, insisted that they don't do lease signings that late since computers are apparently shut done. Okay, then why was this time mutually decided upon as the time to come in and sign a lease? A quick aside about Ms. Brianna: I've worked in customer service for most of my life. I have never, NEVER EVER encountered a person as rude, as dismissive, as borderline verbally abusive as Ms. Brianna. Simple questions were met w/ hostile answers and even sarcasm. How this person is able to hold such a job is beyond my comprehension. Pangea likely would have gotten a 1 star review even if things had otherwise gone okay in only because dealing w/ Brianna was a nightmare. Brianna tells us that we can pay the $500 move in fee now and they will have a lease drawn up and ready for us by Tuesday. Okay, we give her the $500 money order and leave. And we wait. Thursday comes and our realtor from Touchstone calls us and tells us: "The apartment was no longer available." WHAT? No reasons given (keep in mind, again, that this was a vacant building- we had our choice several 3 bedroom apartments!). 3 weeks after viewing this apartment, handing in our applications, getting approved from that apartment (and apparently some place in North Lawndale), packing up our place, paying a $500 move in fee, & being told a lease would be ready for us by Tuesday, the apartment has apparently ceased to exist. Pangea has refused to explain why or even get in contact with us. They refuse to tell our realtor why. We never got an answer from either Pangea or Touchstone. We would have been homeless if our landlord hadn't allowed us to stay in our current apartment for an extra month. The one good thing about this is that Touchstone refunded our $45 application fees and the $500 move in fee we gave Pangea. Still, we lost money and a ton of our time dealing w/ this mess of a company. Between the attempted bait and switch, poor organization, VERY POOR customer service, and lack of communication, Pangea is basically either some sort of scam artist or just a poorly run real estate company. Based on other reviews we've seen about Pangea, we may have dodged a real bullet here. Got denied by the company because of my chapter 13 bankruptcy. I told them in the beginning and was told still apply because by income was high enough. Took my application and told me I was denied and it had to be due to my bankruptcy. Yea my credit is not great but I have no evictions and no criminal background. I had people who rented from them and their credit was wayyyy lower than mine. They took my money and denied right away. So FYI if you got bankruptcy they will not rent to you. The guy I talked to Nick was VERY straightforward and said they "do not allow any of them killer dog breeds like pitbull dogs, rottweillers, golden retrievers, pomeranians, dauchunds...." I have a water leak in my bedroom ceiling, which turned into a hole. The leak started Friday evening while my AC was being put in. I texted my property manager, Charles (I don't know his last name) about it and send him pictures and called . NO RESPONSE. The leak stopped, but later that evening, into the early morning hours, my ceiling fell in. I texted more pictures to my property manager and called the 888-218-0080 number to place a maintenance request - NO RESPONSE. I contacted Chicago Metropolitan Tenants Association for assistance and Still NO RESPONSE. I called the 218 # again leaving a second voice message - NO RESPONSE. I placed an online maintenance request - NO RESPONSE. Come Sunday, the leak started back and more of the plaster fell from my ceiling. I have expressed each time I called and texted that I have a 7 month old baby in the unit and there was still NO RESPONSE FROM ANYONE. I reached out to 2 other people who said they sent messages/e-mails to the property manager, STILL NO DAMN RESPONSE. I am pissed. IF ME AND MY CHILD GETS SICK... I will leave it at that. read more

As I sit here, the food in my refrigerator is going bad. A breaker flipped at 7 pm last night. Because it was after hours I had to leave a message and no one has contacted me as of yet. It's now 6 am. This happened once before and someone came but not this time. While writing this review, I watched one of many mice in my apartment scurrying across my living room. They address the mouse problem in this building by just patching holes. The mouse chew new ones and the cycle continues. The building is infested. They don't care. There are quite a few handicapped and older people in my building and the elevator goes out constantly leaving people stuck in their apartments, sometimes days at a time. They don't care. Last year we were left without heat and hot water for over two weeks right at Christmas time. Again... they don't care. Oh, and let's not forget the bedbug infestation I had to deal with. If I could give this real estate company a BIG FAT ZERO, I would do it with the most absolute confidence. I signed my first lease for an apartment on the west side of Chicago- on Chicago ave and Austin blvd. From the very first day we had nothing but problems with them. When we went for a showing we were told that the apartment would have wifi, after moving in and calling in to confirm, it turns out we were obviously lied to by the leasing agent because that was not the case at all! But that's the least of it... within one month of moving in, there was evidence of mice. We began Noticing mice droppings on our stove and our kitchen floor on numerous occasions! When we called in to complain about it, the property manager blamed it on the apartment being next to the alley?! That is not a justifiable at all! Even less with us being brand new tenants. We should have not been having those problems at all. We then took a look around to see by what means these mice were able to come in. We found a number of tiny holes and spaces in between closet doors, under the sink, and we could also see the light from outside when looking through the tracker on the back door. It took a few calls for them to come by and do anything about it. Even when they did come, it appeared that these people had no clue what they were doing. They do nothing but temporary fixes. Nothing worthwhile and so damn cheap! We took matters into our own hands and did what we could to keep these issues from continuing in our apartment. We also ended up having an issue with bed bugs. The wax job that they did to wax the hardwood floor was garbage. You can see they didn't even sweep or clean prior to doing so. There were pieces of hair and garbage waxed over. Maybe I should have looked more into the details and build of the apartment, but I've learned my lesson, and I felt absolutely cheated. We didn't even stay for our entire lease. By the sixth month we were gone. Our neighbors apartment was constantly being raided by the cops and the front door of the building was constantly being broken. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Not sure how they are maintained in other areas but in the Austin area, they are absolute garbage. They don't have your best interest and they are so dirty! Everybody threw their garbage from out of their alley windows. it's disgusting. read more

But since then I have to admit that my PM Chantel Lay @ Pangea Austin Apartments is awesome. !st incident water went off, Chatel and her team were on top of it at the start of the day checking on tentants and delivering bottled water to all Now from my post earlier I wasn't happy about the parking permit situation and decided to let it go, I wasn't gonna win. Then out of nowhere Chantel Lay bumps into me on a routine inspection and says I think I can approve the permit (awesome, as I had given up) Now in these 4 months I have entered several service tickets always responded to by maintance within a week Honestly I may have over reacted with my 1st review, I take my cars very SERIOUSLY Thank You again Chantel read more

This is by far the worst leasing process I have ever been through. Every time I called their office it was ineffective and frustrating. You can't call the regional offices directly, you have to go through their corporate call center every time. We were really interested in a property and were showed the apartment by a very nice showing agent. At the showing, we were given answers to common questions about move-in fees and negotiation terms. Then, after a painstaking process of getting our application approved (which took multiple calls and an inconvenient trip to their office that is only open 9 to 5 to pay the application fee), we were given different answers regarding move-in fee and negotiation terms. Despite being told move-in fee was based on credit score, we were told we would have to pay the highest end of the range even though both my roommate and I's credit scores were very good. Plus, we were told at the showing there would be room for negotiation possible if we talked to the property manager. I went all the way across town to talk to the property manager, and he told me that there was nothing he could do. Throughout the whole process my roommate and I were jerked around, told different answers to the same questions, and were generally treated like we didn't matter. We didn't end up signing a lease because I can't even imagine trying to get the company to come in and fix something while tenants if they don't even respect their prospective tenants. read more

I've rented with these people for 5 years and all i can say is HELL ON EARTH!!! The buildings are infested and nasty. the workers are rude , lazy and negligent . The "inspect" our apartments once a month BUT NEVER FIX ANYTHING!!! I put in a maintenance request and asked them to NOT ENTER my apartment if I'm not home. however they walked in on me in my bed because they thought i wasn't home and decided to walk into my apartment after i didn't answer the door. I've been building a case for a lawsuit against them. I've been harassed by the property maanger for the last two years. they also gave me a key to my apartment but it's the same key that unlocks the main entrance to the back gate so anyone in the building can unlock my door. these people are THE WORST to rent through!!! if you work for Pangea and you are reading this please don't reply with an apology or fake solution. you guys need SERIOUS HELP!!! read more

Terrible experience with this real estate company and I haven't even gotten to the rental stage. I've been trying to go see one of their apartments for about three weeks now, and they are just unorganized. The first time I called to set up an appointment, they took all my information and set the appointment and said I would receive a confirmation email with the time and address to meet. Never got that so I called the morning of the appointment to confirm, and they told me none of my information was in the system and they had no record of me setting up a showing. So, I gave them all my info again and set up another appointment. I requested it for Tuesday. Called Tuesday morning to confirm before going to the place, they said it was set up for Monday the day before. Set up another appointment for Thursday. Showed up and nobody was there to show me the place. I called and they asked if I would like the reschedule (again?). Absolutely not. They clearly do not care about my business, so I do not care to do business with them. And after seeing these horrible reviews of their apartments, this feels like a blessing in disguise. read more

I was called yesterday by Blake the property manager and he told that my refrigerator was going to be delivered yesterday, well that never happen. He also told me to email him if my refrigerator does not come. Well I emailed him at 3:44pm yesterday and 5:40am this morning, he has not responded back to my messages. This the email he gave me bsmith@pangeare.com. I'm not sure what's going on, but I'm tired of all the lies that are being told to me. When I signed my leasing contract; this apartment came with a stove and refrigerator, well Pangea is not sticking to there own leasing contract. Since this happening then I should be able to break my lease. I have tired hard to be patient with you all, but now my patients has ran out. I promise you if I have to go and purchase a refrigerator myself; that is supposed to be furnished to me by Pangea, then I'm going to take it out of my rent. I have been patient long enough, it's been three weeks without a refrigerator, The property manager gave me so many excuses. First he told me 7-14 days, then he told the reason I didn't get my refrigerator was because they put on back order and that mine would be delivered yesterday, that didn't happen. Now today is Saturday August 3, 2019, and still don't have a refrigerator and probably won't be delivered today because suppose everyone is off. This is crazy to send someone through this. read more

**************PLEASE SHARE************* I am beyond furious, we have been renting the same beauty salon (Picture Perfect Hair Studio) 5125 and 5127 w Madison in Chicago for 5 years now and never had any issues until Pangea Realty took over the management of the property about 4 years ago. There has been problem after problem and it seems as if since we are in a minority area of the city Pangea feels as if we don't deserve legit service. From their employees stealing our property, which they were willing to reimburse us for if we sign a document saying that we would never tell anyone that their employees stole from us. As beauty salon we cannot conduct business with out water and yet time and time again they have shut off the water without warning all while we had a shop full of clients. Then they send employees over to do subpar work like patch walls and then paint wet plaster with out sanding it. We have water marks all over our walls and ceiling and they said the would paint it if we don't mind different colors all over the place, because they didn't want to pay to have the paint match. Then to top it off we are now infested by insects and even though we have been complaining they have yet to respond to our complaints. Now they tried to lock us out of our storage area I. The basement where we pay the utilities for. They constantly tap into our utilities and expect us to front the bill. I do not understand how Pangea Realty is allowed to operate as such slum lords... I am exhausted. I am writing this at 2am because I'm fed up! After reading all the older reviews I decided to add my horrible experience. I have lived in 2 different Pangea apartments in the last 12 months. The first apartment was cool at first. But we slowly started to notice roaches. And soon after mice. And then the constant shooting behind the building. We complained and they finally let us transfer apartments. This block is a lot quieter and the apartment seemed nice. But soon after we moved in, we noticed mice. They were darting all over they place. We complained to our property manager and they would send out exterminators. They literally patch up the holes the mice chewed thru the baseboards with caulk and sat out cheap traps and poison. The mice will then chew NEW holes and you hear them doing it at night because they squeak and scratch all night so you can't sleep. We tried getting rid of them ourselves by buying better traps. That seemed to help at first. We caught AT LEAST 20 mice. 20! In a 3 bedroom apartment! I was 9 months pregnant while this was going on and it stressed me out so bad. Now that it's getting cold again the mice are back with a vengeance. The exterminator has been back at least 3 times but these mice aren't going anywhere. This whole building must be infested. I have little babies in here and I can't even put them on the floor because I'm scared they'll get sick or bitten. We pay so much for rent and utilities and can't even enjoy where we live because of this. I absolutely would recommend you skip right over this company because they don't even care it seems like. All they care about is if you paid your rent. Never mind the horrible conditions you're living in. 0/10 I would not recommend. Save yourself the headache. UPDATE: Were in the last month of the lease and we're moving at the end of the month. Today a whole family of mice waltzed out the utility closet right in front of us. A mother mouse and her children. So obviously the issue was not resolved. Also, roaches have started entering our apartment thru the kitchen sink. So that's great. read more

If I could give PANGEA REAL ESTATE a 0... I WOULD! Leasing thru them was the worst decision I've ever made in life. Lbs. I leased with them for a studio apartment in Maywood, IL and did not stay at my apartment not even a full year. I COULDNT TAKE IT!! Only a couple of weeks living in that unit I discovered MICE! I called numerous of times to complain about the situation and they sent a few pest control workers to come to patch up under baseboards and in my closet. STILL MICE! The only thing pest control did was place more mice traps and patch more areas. All together 9 mice was caught in my STUDIO apartment. I was never given the option to move to a different unit or anything. I left that apartment as soon as I could. No thanks. I would never recommend someone to rent with them. Don't believe me? I just wanna express how furious I am with Pangea Real Estate. Since two weeks ago I've called THREE times to get the entrance door to my building fixed. You can literally just push it open, and you have access to anyone's apartment. On 4 occasions random people have entered my building, with no one buzzing them in, to sell me something. How do I know no one buzzed them in? I live right above the entrance, I hear it super clearly, I even had My husband buzz it just to make sure I could actually hear it. You hear it crystal clear. Anyway. Do you think anyone did something about it? No. Now my back gate is the same way, so clearly someone from around here is doing this on purpose. My husband works over night and I'm left alone with the baby, now if something were to happen who would I hold accountable? They have no consideration for the safety of their tenants what so ever. This should be one of the top priorities, but it's not. I called to speak to a manager and apparently she was too busy and didn't have a call back number nor extension. But let me be late on my rent or not pay it at all, let's see how fast she becomes unoccupied. read more

I live with pangea and I wanna move, my best advise is if you have k credit or good do not move with them ! I wish o could move sooner . they change the policy on things over night . there trying to file an eviction on me for being 2 weeks late and I been paying for a over a year late. Worst agency ever. Lived in a rat infested apartment. Was trying to move so I didn't renew my lease to only receive a 30day notice to move SUPPOSEDLY because I haven't renewed my lease so I told them I would that way I have more time to look for an apartment but they said no they wanted me to move. They wanted me to move because I kept complaining about the rats in my apartment but I'm sure I wasn't the only one in that building. I tried to see if I could get in contact with a supervisor but no I would have to talk to this same office that evicted me. read more

I've been trying to rent a apartment from this company and they are Unprofessional. I gave them everything they needed so that I can move into one of there units. They lead me to believe I had the place and comes to find out they give the unit to someone else. I already moved out of my old apartment and now I'm homeless until I can find something else.!! Ok me and my husband did a application with pangea back in April so after we did the application the lady calls us back hours after we left and said we was approved and to start looking for apartments so we booked the appointments to see several apartments but what they always did was the day of going to see the apartment they call us and tell us the apartment was not vacant they did this like four times so fast foward to last week Tuesday we was booked to go see a apartment at 723 n central we was excited so half way of getting there they called and said your application is expired so we go to the currency exchange and get a 15 dollar money order to do the application again we get there they tell us your application been denied remind u we never did the application over again so u telling me my first application from April was approved then denied I'm so glad we didn't put more money down cause had our move in fee and all i see the horror stories of this place they need to be shut down at least the one on 17 n Austin read more

Pangea keeps dropping my heat to 60 and it's december and I have two kids. My kids and I keep catching colds and the windows are not sealed. My bathroom window I found out doesn't lock. If I request them to check the thermostat again they trying to charge me but it's illegal for them to keep cutting my heat off and I got two kids. Then I have to get up and turn it back on.Sounds like a court matter. read more

I'm so over Pangaea they have the nerve to try and charge you a water bill and they only exsturmanate if you put in a order. I have a new born here. It's cold ,mices running over your feet when the lights come on.when you vacuum you can see the baseboards to the basement. Every morning on the way out to work it smells like death. I really regret renting with Pangaea. I have put in several request to ask them to get the neighbor below me to keep the music down but they have been slow to respond. Section 8 tenants are the abosolute worst and should not be allowed. Pangaea claim that service, value, and care of its residents is a priority. I beg to differ. My lease is up soon and I will find some where else to move. Please do not waist your time renting from them. read more

The worst real estate company I have dealt with so far. I was told to come to a lease signing after seeing an apartment unit I wanted to rent. I made the appointment with the phone agent; she asked me the apartment number and address, I told her. She put me on hold to verify the unit was still available before she booked the appointment. She confirmed a 1:00pm appointment for the afternoon and told me the appropriate documentation to bring. Me and my boyfriend arrived at about 12:25 to the Zone 3 Austin Leasing Office. We checked in with the receptionist and she told us to have a seat in the lobby. She then proceeded to the back of the office and told the staff there something. A guy came out about 10 mins later, first got water and continued to talk to his colleagues in the back. He than stared at us and said "May I help you"? We told him we were there for a 1 o clock lease signing. He than went on a rant from here: He stated" Oh you couldn't be here to sign a lease at that location because a tenant of mine did a transfer to that location at 8:30 this morning." I told him we indeed was and the phone agent earlier checked and confirmed this unit was vacant and ready to rent. He said the phone agent did not know the unit was not available because as the building property manger only he knew about this and he was super "busy" that day. He had a lease signing in the morning and he had a meeting downtown. He stated again how "busy" he was. I explained to him I left work early to come to the office and was now inconvenienced because of this mishap. The guy showed no sympathy and again stated how "sorry" he was but he was "busy" and even went so far to blame the phone reps for booking the lease signing. I knew the ZONE 3 supervisors name was Andre. I asked him for his contact information because I felt he needed to know about this situation because someone on the Pangea leasing had indeed dropped the ball today. His response was " he doesn't give his information out to just anyone, he doesn't want people to know his information." Clearly I wasn't just "anybody" I was a potential tenant who was misled and misguided whose time and money was wasted (I took time to get a cashers check from my bank for $5) and no one seemed to have a problem with that. I did follow up with headquarters and filed a complaint with them and they claimed to give the Zone 3 supervisor my information and someone would be in contact with me. I honestly don't care if they do or not. I'm no longer interested in being a tenant to such a establishment. I can only imagine the problems I would have endured if I had signed a lease with them.
