This large and modern campus which is also home to Austin PBS was once a shopping mall. You can still feel the elements of the mall in some areas. For example, you can definitely tell that one of the lab/classes was once a Limited or some variation of that store and its multiple entities. Parking is great and ample. I really like being able to park in a covered garage. It's an easy campus to navigate once you get the hang of it. Extremely clean, open, bright, and cutting edge. read more

Back at Austin Community College (ACC) - Highland Campus for a ribbon cutting ceremony. KAZI FM radio station (The voice of Austin) is moving from the East side location to ACC Highland campus. Last night was the official ribbon cutting for KAZI FM radio. Over 100 people gathered to watch this very significant event. Local dignitaries, community leaders and local Austin citizens were present for the ribbon cutting. After the Ribbon cutting began with a prayer, there were representatives from KAZI who had been with the radio stations inception to date that shared thoughts about all their moves in addition their personal connection to the radio station. A poet laureate read a poem she wrote about the radio station that was salient, inspiring and moving. Tours of the facilities were done after the program ended. Refreshments were also served. The Ribbon cutting program went flawlessly. I am happy to witness this historic and significant event. read more

Avoid at ALL costs. They are rude and treat you like scum, just as previous reviews have said. This college runs on scamming people, bullying, and all the things that make people the absolute WORST. First, admissions forgot to inform me that they would charge an extra $3500 for out of district tuition, so that charge blindsided me a week into classes. After waiting a week to get a hold of a financial aid person, they told me they wouldn't help me and to try my advisor. They shoved me off so fast, and didn't even ask me what the problem was. SO RUDE. I couldn't get a hold of my student advisor the entire semester. When I finally received an email back from Ara Williams, it was AI generated, and didn't answer my actual concerns because he was "too busy" with other students who had "actual problems". You will spent most of you time trying to find the right person to email, because most of the staff will just shove you off to someone else or telling you to just be grateful for the breadcrumbs of information or help they offer. On top of that, they hire "professors" like Cassie Smith for Anthropology who are NOT qualified to teach the subject, but will also hire department chairs like Dr. Sanchez to protect these "professors" even when they lack the basic knowledge to teach. Both of these staff members accused me of cheating without any sort of proof, but tried to tell me I should be "grateful" they gave me a grade that I earned. This was after I had to email the professor every SINGLE week to open the appropriate information and assignments. Yes, I had to remind my professor to unlock the weekly assignments with an email that she didn't respond to for two days prior. She was probably busy trying to make her lecture videos that didn't post until halfway through the week. It's sad that all this time she spent "preparing" for her class she couldn't run a spell check before posting anything, including feedback on papers. Cassie Smith is unprofessional and should never teach again. Dr. Sanchez should never be allowed to interact with students again. Telling a student who did not cheat to "be grateful the professor was willing to change the grade" is INSANE and shows how selfish this college is. They will do WHATEVER it takes to protect their own, even if it means lying about a student's academic dishonesty. This ENTIRE college runs on manipulation, scams, and lies. DO NOT waste your money here because they do not care about you. I have hired a lawyer to pursue legal action because of this semester with Austin Community College. read more

If you are a non-traditional student such as a parenting student or a student with a disability I would suggest going to a more established University. I have A recorded incident of being discriminated against by a professor and have had complications with my legal accommodations for my disability that have not been properly fulfilled and that is now negatively affecting my financial aid and prolonging my educational journey. Despite an internal investigation, my transcript has been denied being fixed and no additional resources have been provided to properly establish my accommodations for my classes. read more

My college experience has been anything but pleasant, half the time I felt like they didn't even want us there. Let's not talk about the knuckleheads they have working student services. It seems like they try to find the least helpful people to put in the position of interaction. Went in and asked for help and these two guys start talking to me like I'm mentally impaired. My experience at ACC highland has been wonderful. I was a PhD student at Texas A&M University (College Station) but later decided to switch career paths. ACC's accounting program is challenging, there are books to be read and never ending assignments for you to complete. I made a few good friends as we all have to push it through and remind ourselves to not be discouraged by a quiz/exam grade. I just got done with the program and having been to a few campuses (Highland, Northridge, Rio Grande, Riverside, Eastview, South Austin, and Cypress Creek), Highland is by far my favorite. The Accelerator is where I like to get work done and join study groups while the library is where I prepare for exams during final hours. There isn't much food choices on campus but are plentiful nearby. Additionally with the child care help ($4/hour, 3 hours max per visit, 12 hours max a week) I can at least squeeze in 2.5-3 hours of study time on Saturdays when my little one doesn't go to school. ACC really is for anyone. Happy, thankful, and proud to be a member of ACC for the past two years. Thank you! read more

they allow bus stops to be removed which is interesting since they do not provide school bus service to/from. So if you don't/can't drive yourself and have to come here and do not have a personal driver, you might be out of luck. Oh and the 'management' locks exterior doors for 'safety' which is an interesting and outdated tactic since it doesn't at all prevent somebody from being attcked by an individual we know irrespective of motive. This campus has many issues, parking lot, tutors, and elevators. As a student who goes there, I never had issue finding a spot for my car, until they closed the parking lot! I asked the police officer about it and he said they going to build it or they have some type of construction! It has been closed for a month and there is no construction there it just closed for no reason! Tutoring, if you go to the lab and sing in your name just to see a tutor, it may take you to 30- to 50 minutes to meet a tutor! read more

Changing to 3 stars. After I wrote my original review I spoke with a few people at the office and sorted out the schedules. Raising it 2 stars for the personal attention. The school still has issues. The ESOL scheduling is still cumbersome and as much as they advertise otherwise requires you go onsite pretty much every time you want to sign up. Class offerings are limited and have changed up to the day before classes are scheduled to start. I suggest making the enrollment process Non English speaking friendly which will drive attendance which will in turn avoid cancelling classes. read more

I'd have to say this is my favorite spot for studying/reading. The lower level of building 4000 has a fountain with plants right underneath the stairs. It's a tranquil area that will keep even the most anxious person relaxed. There are many tables and benches around the fountain as well. And you also have the option to sit along the fountain edge. Just try not to drop your book in the water! The natural lighting from many windows helps keep you awake and focused. read more

I'm glad that ACC decided to reuse this space which used to be an old department store at Highland Mall. The space could been left unused. But going inside of the campus, you can tell it used to be a department store. The first floor on the left hand side is a big computer lab where students can write papers or use it for class use. The other side are the admission offices and other administrative offices such as financial aid. Then upstairs is the testing center and different classrooms. The lobby area of the first floor have modern looking furniture and the staircase has layout where there's a cement staircase on one side and wooden lounging steps with big cushions on the other side. I'm taking an online course on the History of Graphic Design and I had to go to one of the campuses to take a test. Gone are the days when I could've taken the test anytime even at night. You had to take the test when the computer labs are open. The lab monitors were polite and helpful. read more

Earlier this semester, I went to the ACC student Life Office to pick up something due to the inconvenience of this organization that had a delay and left early without letting me know- which I come from a long distance, and they told me that they will leave the package at the Student Life Office at the highland ACC. Once I get there, a lady with a bad attitude and expression attended me and told me that they never do this and that it'll be the very last time that "they'll" hold a package like this. As if I even asked them to hold the package, it was not my fault. Absurd. Austin Community College at highland, do better in considering the hiring panels. read more

It's a huge room . Really like how they are discussing adjunct raises because they deserve it.

The campus is beautiful and still not fully complete. If you love studying and reading then it's quiet spacious atmosphere is perfect. Restrooms are clean and it has more of a lounge feel. Only 1 bad thing I noticed is that for some odd reason the janitors don't clean or shampoo the padded sitting areas or couches. They are filthy and even a campus officer suggest that he wouldn't lay on them because they haven't been cleaned since it's opening smh read more

I like the campus. I like that the Highland Mall space is being used. I'm really not a fan of the giant computer lab downstairs for classroom settings. I'm in a class that is within earshot of two other classes that are being held at the same time. It's almost impossible to hear my instructor, and very difficult to concentrate. This is not conducive to learning. My instructor records his lectures and puts them online, but it feels really pointless to even come to class if that's the only way I can actually retain information, watching the lectures outside of class. This model for hosting multiple classes does not work. I highly suggest the tried-and-true individual classroom per class model. read more

The accessibility aspects of Highland are becoming more and more accommodating even with all the construction. Fuck you ACC for charging me $100 for only making it to two classes before I dropped. Thank you so much. I signed up for a payment plan, ended up dropping the class the week it started and they only gave me a $13 refund. I dropped within the time for a 70% refund, but because I signed up for a payment plan they deducted a 30% penalty. I should have received $91, but I guess what they really meant was $13. Assholes. I am a student as well as an employee and I love HLC. I am going to miss Highland Mall but I am glad they have constructed it into a campus and will continue renovations on the other side. The staff here is wonderful the instructors are incredible, I especially love the Accelerator the tutors are wonderful as well, and there is just plenty of space. read more
