They really want you to come in and help them in the way that YOU want to contribute, unlike other volunteer gigs. As a trainer, I supervised labs, taught basic computer navigation skills and helped clients complete resumes, search for jobs and other resources, and apply for state benefits. In the office, I did research, put together events and public relations campaigns, and edited class curriculum. I also lent my hand in the IT dungeon, where all the nerds hang out. Having completed a few guides, I realized that my ability to learn "how to code" was hindered simply by my style of learning. I love interactive q/a style learning, which is what led me to MakerSquare. Of the different programs out there, the one thing I would urge others to consider is that they place a heavy amount of weight onto prework completed (how much work you've done ahead of time) and community-fit. If you're a solo worker and not a fan of collaborative environments, you may want to consider other programs. Anyways, long story short, I would whole heartedly recommend this program. As classmates, I had former programmers, retail store workers, a professional photographer and even a former elementary teacher. Out of the program, each of the students were working as professional front-end engineers (junior developers) within weeks of graduating. So safe to say, MakerSquare has a great professional network, and they know how to teach code. The classroom environment (the location on Congress ave) was a bit cramped at times. But from what I've heard the class size is now capped at 18, vs. 30 or so when I went through. All the 'issues' I had (space constraints, less than ideal student:instructor ratio, and focus on advanced concepts (algorithms and data structures) has been completely addressed. According to the staff, Cohort 5 is operating on an almost night/day difference of curriculum than what I had. So not only do I give the program 5 stars, I would (and likely will) retake the course to take advantage of their newest curriculum.

I've also built a really awesome network of programmers and startup gurus in St. Louis and I believe that's thanks to MakerSquare! :-) I joined in Winter 2013-2014 (Cohort 3 Represent!). My reason for joining originally was not initially to become a software/web developer. Rather, I wanted to be able to communicate better with programmers that I worked with. I wanted to gain better access to the startup network. And most importantly I have a lot of ideas that I wanted to explore on my own - I didn't want to have to rely on finding a developer to build my ideas and turn them into a reality. I came out of the program having learned web-development with a strong emphasis on solid software development skills. Here's what I loved about MakerSquare: Curriculum: I was impressed by how much I learned. I literally had no experience in programming and I can now build web applications that ACTUALLY work. Not just simple interactive sites, but fully dynamic applications that work heavily with javascript on top of a rails framework. Moreover, all of this was taught with a very clear emphasis on test driven development (from the beginning) and solid software development principles. Instructors & Culture: They actually cared about the students and our progress and they were just all-around cool people. The culture at MakerSquare was actually a huge focus in the organization. I think what I loved most was learning how to learn all over again. I gained a new confidence that I've never had. The energy was also great, everyone had awesome ideas - from students to staff. Feedback: I would have liked to have more experience with Ruby and really learning how to code w/algorithms and such vs. w/Rails which is just teaching you the framework. From what I gather, Rails is now being treated as a detail vs. a core of what we learned. When we learned rails, it was about utilizing the framework for its ActiveRecord and quick-to-web functionality. MakerSquare still teaches web development (rails/mvc, http, javascript, etc) but now only after teaching other concepts that are applicable not just to the web, but to all software (test-driven development, SOLID principles, application boundaries, decoupling, databases, interfaces, software architecture, etc). I would have loved a deeper problem-solving skillset through exposure to algorithms. Looks like I was one cohort shy of that. MakerSquare now integrates algorithms and algorithmic thinking from day 1. Finally, MakerSquare was split into two nearby locations (Congress & Brazos). The extra space was nice, but it felt disconnected and I think it kept our cohort from being as close as some other cohorts have been.

The account manager working with my company was very friendly, even when I had to change my course date twice. I took what they call an Online Live course where the instructor was actually in New York and myself and the other students were at computer workstation at various New Horizons locations. I honestly wasn't thrilled with this setup because I had imagined being in a classroom with other students and an instructor that was physically there. The workstations had two monitors, one to display the instructors screen and one for my own Excel practice. Students can virtually raise their hand and type questions to the instructor, which many of us did. I actually ended up enjoying this setup because I was able to focus without a room full of people but also sneak a peek at my work email a few times. The instructor was terrific and tried to relate the course to how we could use these new skills in our jobs. I was fully prepared for 8 hours of boredom but now I want to take Level 3 in the future. My one complaint is that the headphones provided are uncomfortable. My ears hurt and I had a terrible headache by the lunch break. After lunch I figured out a way to put them on my face right in front of my ears with the volume turned to max and be able to hear without pain (and luckily no one was in the room to see this.) Bring your own headphones! Also, the classes have a course book but they didn't have a paper one to give me like they normally do. I got an access code for the online book but I'd rather have a paper copy for easy reference. In the course evaluation I asked to get one. If I get this I'll be thrilled and probably increase this to 5 stars!

It has always been a wonderful experience. Faculty, staff, and students alike all boasting their Longhorn pride. Hook 'Em Horns!!! What an extraordinarily beautiful campus for strolling from the lush greens to incredible architecture that's also stood the test of time. Sculptures and artwork adorn the campus throughout, there's always something new to see. Sunday strolls around the campus grounds are one of my favorite things to do.

My family was part of the INIC community for nearly four years. I sent both of my daughters there…read moreas infants and previously left a 5-star review. I would have enthusiastically recommended this school. Today, I cannot. The issue is not the teachers. The teachers have been exceptional and are the reason so many families choose this school. Despite years of tuition increases and persistent concerns from teachers and families, the school has not made the investments necessary to retain them. In early March alone, at least 7 teachers left or announced their departures--nearly 20% of the teaching staff by parents' count. Both of my daughters experienced unexpected teacher departures in their classrooms during that same period. For young children, teachers are not interchangeable. They are trusted caregivers and a critical source of stability. When teachers leave, children lose important relationships and families are left helping them navigate yet another transition. During enrollment, families are told classrooms are staffed with a lead teacher, an assistant teacher, and additional flex staff available for coverage. In reality, my oldest daughter's classroom frequently operated at the legal minimum ratio of one teacher for fifteen four-year-olds. Multiple current and former teachers described being unable to reliably use sick days, vacation days, or even take basic bathroom breaks because there was often insufficient coverage available. When a school is staffed so leanly that teachers struggle to meet basic human needs during the day, it raises serious questions about how well both teachers and students are being supported. Teachers reported compensation in the $14-$17/hour range despite bilingual education being one of the school's primary differentiators. Comparable non-bilingual childcare positions in Austin often advertise higher wages. The result is predictable: teachers leave. Children lose stability. Families absorb the consequences. Demand for bilingual childcare in Austin far exceeds supply, and many families have few realistic alternatives once enrolled. Given that reality--and given that tuition has continued to increase year after year--I expected a greater commitment to investing in the teachers and staffing stability that families are ultimately paying for. Parents who attempted to ask questions and advocate for improvements--including efforts to reestablish the PTA--often received little to no response. While our family's relationship with the school ultimately ended following disagreements with leadership about these issues, the concerns described here are based on nearly four years of experience and conversations with numerous current and former teachers and families. The teachers are the school's greatest strength. The challenge is whether the school will make the investments necessary to retain them long enough to provide the stability and continuity that young children deserve.

Their billing, scheduling, front office staff, and teachers all provide a effective environment for families to feel taken care of. During the pandemic they provided a vital service for many parents and were able to keep their employees and children enrolled stay safe and healthy! Our child loved every class they were in, and the teachers were always very personable but professional with us and (from what we saw) the children! If we ever need childcare again we will definitely utilize their services, and definitely recommend as they are a family owned and operated Austin business!

Ms. Amaiya has been outstanding with our daughter while she was in Toddler B. Our daughter loves her so much so that now that she has moved on from her class, she will still sometimes refuse to enter the new class unless Ms. Amaiya is there. She has been so great that she'll often at times help take her in the morning until her current teacher is available to get her. We are extremely grateful for her! Currently, our daughter is in Ms. Stephanie's class and she loves and trusts her as well. Ms. Stephanie has been incredible and is always available to give us updates on our daughter's potty training. She encourages her all the time to do things on her own and she's been so crucial for us in helping us potty train our daughter. The front desk of TLE has been amazing as well! Ms. Jessica and her team have done an amazing job and really have given a lot of consistency to the facility that we felt was lacking for a while. Seeing Ms. Jessica's and Ms. Phoenix's faces in the morning always lights up our daughter's face. We are moving away soon and won't be able to send our daughter here. We will truly miss the staff and all they have done for our daughter. They have made such a big impact on our daughter's and our lives and we hope we've made a lasting impression as well.

We keep our hands to yourself. Well then my daughter proceeds to tell me the teacher squeezed me and it hurt my heart. When she tells me this she sounded sad and hurt. I went into panic mode asking what does that mean? Like you couldn't breathe or were you in pain? I said when we get home, demonstrate to me and your dad what happen. Well we get home and ask more questions, she said momma sit down, I sit down and she sits in between my legs. She said momma push your legs together like this. She said squeeze me, that's what the teacher did to me. So I said did it hurt? she said yes my heart. So when I dropped her off I told the director, I need a meeting. She asked is everything ok, I said yes and no. I didn't want to give her too much info because I didn't want to lose camera footage. They are known to lose footage or they can not play it back. We have our meeting the next day. I explained to her what happened and told her I want to see the cameras. She explains they are live streamed and aren't able to play it back. So happen the area manager was there. I said what do you mean you can't play them back and so what is the point of having them? So she takes me to the area manager to explain the process of the cameras. She asked what do I want to see. I said a teacher squeezed my daughter and she asked for the teachers name. We go over what happened. They explain I understand if I was in your shoes I would be a concerned parent too and I don't think that teacher would do that. I know you and your family have been here since ******* was a baby. Our priority is to make sure your child is safe but we also want to advocate for our teachers too. They tried to reassure me but it didn't work. The director writes my statement, stated they would question the teacher and get her statement, then they would turn this into licensing, licensing would then investigate the school and then licensing would reach out to me to question the situation. They said in the mean time we will keep this teacher and your daughter in separate rooms. I'm still upset because my child has been here since she was 6 months old and it was like they didn't care. At that point my child turned into a number. We wrap up the meeting. My daughter wanted to go home with her dad, so we go get her things and as we are walking out, my daughter points to the wall and said that's the teacher that squeezed me. Mind you she is on the wall for teacher of the month. So I told myself submit the situation yourself. So I go on the website for daycare abuse and submitted a report. Well when I submitted it, I didn't get a confirmation email or anything. So I find out licensing came to daycare but no one was telling me anything. So then I go back to state website and call the 800 number. That same day licensing reaches out to me. We are talking and she's asking questions. She says something that triggers that she is going off my report. I said what? I said wait you didn't get a report from daycare, she said no. I receive this from an online report. I said you came on Monday and I asked them if you came. They were acting like they submitted the report like they were helping. They didn't want to report this because they were already under an investigation. At that point before I had talked to licensing something told me to pull my daughter out and I did. I went in to get a document signed and the director says Brie's not here, is she coming tomorrow, I said nope and then she asked is she coming Friday? I said nope and she then say is she coming back at all and I said nope. She said did you tell anyone. I said I was getting to that. I said my daughter will not be back and she then hands me the withdrawal form. I signed the form and left. I wasn't going to keep my daughter here. The trust from this facility was gone after they didn't report to licensing, my daughter would say she hated this school or she was scared to go in. I couldn't do it. She had went through 5-6 teachers alone in preschool. She doesn't even acknowledge the school when we pass it. That should tell you something. She use to say that's my school. Trust me, it hurt to make that decision because she also had friends she grew up with since they were 6 months old but I did not feel safe leaving her there with her comments.

One should not be considered safe at this campus. The administration invites a culture of ill prepared miscreants who have no consideration of One's right to a safe space. This administration denegrades the staff, and any ability to ensure a safe space is laughed upon. Fearing for the lives of others and safety of the campus One has no means to protect themselves. The miscreants run this building and you would best be served going elswhere. These students will cause disruptions, excessive noise, and imminent harm to One with their antics. The administration is less concerned for your safety than their reputation Stay away from this unmanageable imstitution, your life may depend on it. Absolutely LOVE HIGHLAND CAMPUS of Austin Community College!!!!!!! The people that work there are so nice and helpful and seem to know there stuff well. The computer lab is WICKED AMAZING like hundreds of computers! By far the best campus, unlike cedar park that computer lab so small and they kick you out if a class reserves the entire lab. The Advisers and counselors are so helpful at highland. I had a hard times with advisers not knowing much and made me take wrong classes but i met one good one at cedar park that helped me so much when I was fed up and wanted to quit, and I continue to go with same Adviser he moved to the ACC Highland Campus and so now I go specifically to get his help on my degree plan, very helpful with all my questions and doubts and he is very encouraging! I'm not rating the actual college or campus - I just came over to visit the ACC Bioscience Incubator (ABI) and I was stunned by the quality of the lab space. Someone must have been a really good grant proposal writer, because there wasn't a single thing missing from the lab - DNA sequencers, electroporators, fume hoods, all kinds of cell culturing equipment, clean spaces, and best of all, a kitchen that's accessible to all the students/faculty/employees for a snack. I don't know how the student registering works, but as a cell researcher I can say that this place is near perfect as it gets to laboratory work. I know companies can rent out space here for private ventures, and I think it's a great idea, both for ACC and for startups that don't have the resources to start their own lab. read more

This place is up to date. Just opened in 2014 or 2015 so everything is new. Very clean and have so many places you can relax and study. Bathrooms are clean also and they have a shower in one of the men's downstairs bathroom which of course u need a school id to access. Staff is helpful just a very easy going atmosphere. My only complaint is maintenance cleans the restrooms it seems every hour which is annoying when your on the toilet and can hear them just standing there rushing for you to finish. Ugh! I guess better than then seldom cleaning. read more

ACC's campus is way nicer than I expected - seriously, it's easy to find your way around. Everyone I met was super helpful and knew their stuff. They've got a ton of info online too, which is awesome. Heads up though: they stick to normal business hours (including a lunch break), so get there early to avoid waiting around. read more

It often falls under the category of "the new Ivy League". I have been on campus for everything from protests, the annual Longhorn run, college & alumni-affiliated events, strolling the campus, and a few other things. It has always been a wonderful experience. Faculty, staff, and students alike all boasting their Longhorn pride. Hook 'Em Horns!!! What an extraordinarily beautiful campus for strolling from the lush greens to incredible architecture that's also stood the test of time. Sculptures and artwork adorn the campus throughout, there's always something new to see. Sunday strolls around the campus grounds are one of my favorite things to do.

This is an Episcopalian school that does a beautiful job of making students of diverse religious backgrounds feel welcome and accepted to include students from non-religious families. They offer multiple sports, clubs, and fine arts programs. The tuition is not for the faint of heart, it is costly when compared to other private schools however, it is worth the expense. Most private schools are just like public schools minus the larger classes. St. Stephens not only sets high expectations for their students, they set high standards for their teachers. This in my opinion is what sets them apart from other private schools and public schools. If you have a child who is less academic or perhaps more into athletics you may want to send them to another private school or public school. If you have a child that is hungry for knowledge or wants to be challenged St. Stephens is the school for you. Down side here is the high cost and though it pains me to say it, the cafeteria food is mediocre but hey you can always pack a lunch!

When my mother's health started to decline, Dr. Brown's guidance was immeasurably helpful. She sat with my mother and I for over an hour, patiently explaining our options, test results, and her thought process about how to proceed. We'll be polite and call my mom "stubborn", but Dr. Brown handled her with care and grace. At no point did we feel like we were being rushed or pressured, she had clearly done her homework before sitting down to speak with us, and it really felt like we were having a long conversation with a caring friend. Dr. Brown is a huge asset to both Dell Medical school, and the medical community at large.

There are a number of labs around the city in community centers, the M Station, Trinity, and the ARCH, to name a few. The staff at AFN are amazing!!! They really want you to come in and help them in the way that YOU want to contribute, unlike other volunteer gigs. As a trainer, I supervised labs, taught basic computer navigation skills and helped clients complete resumes, search for jobs and other resources, and apply for state benefits. In the office, I did research, put together events and public relations campaigns, and edited class curriculum. I also lent my hand in the IT dungeon, where all the nerds hang out. I would definitely recommend AFN as a place to volunteer. As the saying goes, if teach a man to use the computer, then he can use it to get a job. Here, you can actually do that.
