My wife recently went to Austin Dental Spa based on a recommendation from a friend. When she called up to make the appointment and asked if our dental insurance was accepted there, the receptionist told her that it was. She had a X-rays and cleaning done and was then informed that she would owe over $200 in out-of-network charges. She takes blame for simply taking the receptionist's word and not double checking that this dentist was in-network. This is a response from Dr. Sweeney when asked about the out-of-network issue: "As for the in-network issue, I am surprised because I have never been in-network on any plan, and everyone here knows this and understands why. Once contracted with the insurer, out fees are set by that insurer (and they are all different!), so we are now getting 25-30% less than our normal fee" I would suggest that the front desk staff offer up this information to new customers, rather then have them find out the way my wife did. read more

What an experience!!! I never thought I would say that about going to the dentist of all places. If you have issues with going to the dentist, this is the place for you. All your nerves will be comforted when you walk through the door. Their customer service exceeds any place I have ever been. It's almost like going to a fine dining restaurant. They have LCD screens above every chair and will take high def digital photographs of your teeth and explain any issue with your teeth. It's pretty amazing technology. I was initially worried about the price since I am self pay, but after doing some research they are competitively priced. Go and see for yourself! I have been going here for quite awhile and Dr Jordan is an amazing dentist, the staff are all friendly and helpful. Here are my problems, often when i come in I don't see a Dr at all, that is ok since the PAs actually do the cleanings but it seems strange. My biggest beef is that I was my card was charged without my knowledge, for legitimate charges, after the billing was straightened out with the insurance. The billing folks said I signed a waiver allowing them to do so, which i do not remember, regardless this is fishy to me. I would never charge someone's card without calling them first and explaining. After this I am breaking up with them and trying to find a no nonsense dental office. Trust is hard to buy. read more

They also offer complimentary hand/arm massages during the visit. Be sure to check with your insurance provider because some do not cover them since they are a "spa" and do a lot of cosmetic work. His office is unique, filled with super friendly assistants and employees with great music and soft lighting in the waiting room to help calm us before procedures. I have had a ton of dental work done in the past 5 years, by many different dentists. Austin Dental Spa if by far the best place I have been. The office is very nice, everyone is super friendly and helpful, but I keep going back because Dr. Jordan Slagter is the BEST! I recently was in for a series of 3 visits to have a tooth that has a root canal whitened. I had been to another dentist who gave me whitening trays, and said, "Well, this could make it way worse by making it more noticeable by whitening the teeth around it or it might make it better. It's only $20 try it!" Umm I am not really looking for a discount solution here that results in me having one yellow tooth. Dr. Jordan went over all my options and the likelihood of each being successful. We agreed on a treatment plan that I was comfortable with and I really didn't mind going for each visit. I experienced absolutely no pain, she talked me through every step of the way, and made sure I was happy with the result. You can tell she really cares about her patients and takes her time to make sure you are on board with your dental plan and happy with the outcome. I came to Austin Dental Spa after a friend's recommendation and have never been disappointed. A few times I have called in urgent situations about a chipped tooth or a painful gum inflammation and they fit me in immediately. When you walk through the door the friendly staff shows you straight to your chair, which is very different from other doctors office where they make you wait 30 minutes after your appointment time. If you are scheduling a regular cleaning they are usually booked weeks in advance but they make an effort to call you if anyone cancels. If you have suffered from fear of Dentists, then Austin Dental Spa may be the place for you. I have never been very comfortable with going to the Dentist, especially since my childhood Dentist did not believe in Novocain, instead he used the raise your hand if hurts method. Dr. Sweeney's office is incredibly inviting, very Zen. The staff is incredibly friendly and they make you feel at ease. They even offer free hand massages during your dental work. All this being said I have stopped going to the Austin Dental Spa, after they tried to up-sell me on services that really were not needed. My new dentist was just shocked by what work was being proposed -- her verdict totally unnecessary. I suppose to keep such a high end atmosphere required good revenue. Anyway it put me off and hence I will not be going back. You will get very good dental treatment at the Austin Dental Spa, but just be prepared for the up-sell, question all procedures; if you stay on top of this you should be fine.; and by all means get a second opinion if they try to sell serious work on you. read more

I drive all the way from South Austin to come here and I never dread it. The office is very clean, friendly and professional. Everyone who works here is so nice and they really care about their patients. I go to Dr. Jordan Slagter who is amazing. She's the best dentist I've ever had! She is young and fun but is also meticulous and professional at the same time. I can't recommend her enough. So far (and lucky for me) I've only been in for cleanings and xrays (no cavity club!) but I completely trust the practice & Dr. Jordan so I'm not worried if something not so fun ever comes up. As an added bonus they offer hand or foot massages while you're getting your teeth cleaned which really helps me to relax. I don't have dental insurance at this time but I find their prices to be fair and totally worth it for the amount of service I get. When you leave you get a bag of goodies including chap stick and who doesn't need more of that? But the best thing you leave with is a clean happy smile :-). read more

Lotus makes the entire appointment even more enjoyable (which is hard to do, since I already love going to the dentist), and the front desk staff is always welcoming and sweet as well. For anyone who struggles with going to the Dentist, Austin Dental Spa is your solution. They were highly recommended and it's deserved. I was impressed from the very first visit. Full examination, pictures, X-rays all followed by a detailed assessment and plan of action. The staff is fantastic. They are personable and friendly, they call you by your name and have a genuinely caring attitude. And surprisingly, we had a lot of laughs. I had extensive dental work done, culminating with veneers. Dr. Jordan was fantastic, and she always had excellent assistance. During some of the more lengthy procedures, they have a masseuse to massage your hands & forearms. (That really helped) All of this cost $$, and again, Meg and Angela were the best. Whether it was regarding insurance, an HSA or FSA account, or Care Credit, they have it down. Full explanations, and very accommodative. And perhaps most impressive of all, I have had multiple visits over the last 3 years. Every single time, Dr. Mark Sweeney made it a point to stop & visit with me.
