No doubt best dentist experiences of my life. All staff at the Hills are helpful, personable and professional. Although I have received care from Dr. Winters, my primary dentist here is Dr. Grahl. He and his dental assistant have provided gentle, effective care, and the knowledge that they possess about state-of-the art dentistry is unparalleled to any other I've experienced. I've undergone general cleanings, laser therapy for gums, removal of amalgam fillings, partial porcelain crowns and am currently undergoing treatment with AGGA, which entails monthly visits for the next year at minimum. (I've also even received terrific massages here.) The environment at the office is smooth and relaxing, which is certainly not the norm in dentistry. (The aromatherapy always smells so nice, I can request the music in the exam room and even enjoy a hot neck wrap). All my questions are truly heard and satisfactorily addressed. I went back to the second portion of my New Patient Package today (I didn't have time for the comprehensive session during my first emergency visit.) So - I'm bumping this up to 5 stars for the following reasons: Extremely thorough, comprehensive care. Hey, Beth D. - Wonder why your gums have been hurting you severely in one area for so long you actually forgot about it and just accepted that as normal? Oh, that's because a 10 year old root canal has a problem with it and you have an infection the size of your face in there. Why did the other dentist who I've been seeing since November, who took just as many x-rays not catch it? Good question. But Nemec and his phenomenal staff did. The attention to comfort during a visit is impeccable. You're fitted with TV glasses so you're watching your favorite shows during a cleaning or procedure - Time flies by. They absolutely care about the long-term health of your mouth. They work with what your goals are and then offer expert guidance as to what you truly need. They fully disclose the price of any procedure they are recommending, in writing, with a dated signature, before sending you to schedule it. So there are no surprise charges. Everything being done is fully explained to you. You walk out of your initial consultation with photos of your smile, of your teeth, of problem areas. Over the past 20 years I have been to 3 dentists in Austin and this is by far the best. Dr. Nemec is very personable and easy to trust with your smile. He is young as far as Doctors go which I like because he is up on all of the latest technology for teeth. Digital X-rays are quick and the results accurate and immediate. Every now and again, when you get your car washed and serviced, you say "Jeez, this feels like a new car!" It smells better, looks better and drives better. That is what it is like to get your teeth cleaned here. I have gone to Jayme for a couple of years and I hear that Nicole is excellent. You would not trust your car to a mediocre mechanic, so why hand your mouth over to a mediocre dental hygienist? At the end she even "sand blasts" my teeth for a finishing touch. Nerves are assuaged with a hand massage to take your mind off of the mouth, and they also have glasses to wear if you want to totally escape into a movie or television. They have full spa services from deep tissue to acupuncture. Parking has always been difficult here. If you don't luck out and find a place up front near their front door, I suggest going around the east or right side of the building, under the building, and then straight ahead there is a "secret lot" where you can safely leave your ride. If I could possibly give them more stars, I would... especially if they were free and had laughing gas happy hours. read more

I LOVE this place. The Dr is the best at giving shots, the hygienists (for the most part) are very nice. The only reason I stopped going there is because of Missy, the woman who handles their insurance claims. I had to pay an extra $500 because she didn't have my policy down correctly. And this was at a time when I was a student, I didn't have $500 to give her. I ended up paying from my student loan funds because she was SO COMPLETELY RUDE and I didn't want to deal with her anymore. I have a lot of friends who go there and some of them have also had trouble dealing with her. I would go back there in a heartbeat if she were not there or if I could have a guarantee that I would not have to deal with her. I have anxiety about dentists and this was the only place that I didn't mind going to. Now I am back to a fluorescent-lit, drill-noise office where the dentist gives me way too much laughing gas. Laughing gas just doesn't help with the nerves, it just numbs them. Edited 7/12/11: I returned to The Hills Dental Spa. I just had to, plus the lady I had a run-in with is no longer there. And that being said, I am SO GLAD I RETURNED!! My last appointment was so fast and Lynn (the hygienists) is so comforting: she's like a dentist doula! I have been spoiled. I dread the day when I might have to move from Austin and won't be able to go to The Hills Dental Spa...unless, maybe I can fly in for the day...call it a vacation! Is that a little weird? From the moment you walk in you feel more like you are at a spa than a dentist office. Everything from the decor to the offers of fresh iced tea when you walk in put you at ease. Everyone is extremely friendly, and you can always count on Amy to greet you with a smile and ask how your family is doing. You will be lead to a personal room with soothing music (or TV goggles if you would rather catch up on your favorite show), a warm neck wrap, and suddenly you forgot you are there to get your teeth cleaned. Everyone is efficient, using the best techniques to ensure that you don't hate your experience (because, honestly, who actually likes going to the dentist?). Dr. Nemec is very nice and extremely good at what he does. Everyone in my family has been going to him for years and we wouldn't think of going anywhere else. The whole experience is rather pleasant. Oh, and you can get massages there. From an actual masseuse. Either before or after your appointment, or even just any old time you feel stressed. And no, you aren't in a dentist chair for it! You're in a massage room just like any full-time spa. Basically, it is the most luxurious kind of obligation I can think of. Is it possible to leave your dentists office wanting to be a better person?? I think that's what just happened. WOW. I went for my first visit to The Hills and was blown away. Here is my experience from entrance to exit. Walked in and was immediately greeted by Kim (?). She was super sweet, super cute, all personality -- I fell in love with her in about 2 seconds. She gave me a tour of the entire office. Every room, the lab, the waiting area, the massage area, the examine rooms, etc. I thought that was really nice and immediately put me at ease. The other thing that put me at ease was the actual office itself. Everything from the decor, to the water feature, to the soothing music, to the gorgeous stained concrete floors encouraged me to relax. The ONLY Doctor's office I've ever been to where I thought to myself: hmm, I wish MY office was this nice. Next, b/c I'm a new patient, Kim brought me into a room to ask what my dental goals are and get information. She was absolutely wonderful and took appropriate notes and educated me on my options. Next I was brought into an exam room where I was seated in front of a monitor with soothing music and scenery and was told the doctor would be in shortly. Sure enough, within minutes my new dentist came into the room. I extended my hand and said "Hi, I'm Joe" and with a smile he says: "Hi Joe, I'm Benjamin"! Not Dr. Nemec, not Doctor Ben, not an assumption that I knew who he was -- it was: "I'm Benjamin". I was floored. Of course, I would never call him Benjamin but I just thought it was so nice and friendly and humble it immediately impressed me. Dr. Nemec's initial impression proved true as he was so nice to me and took so much time and was so informative. I really can't say enough about how phenomenal I thought he was. The only thing better than Dr. Nemec was his wonderful, kind and super sweet assistant. She exhausts the superlatives and I fell in love with her in about 30 seconds. Do you ever meet someone and just think: what a kind soul. ? That's how I felt about his assistant. What an outstanding team those two are. At the end of my visit Kim came back in, summarized everything we'd talked about, collected payment and made my next appointment. Is it weird I wish it were sooner? Five stars for a dentist? Who knew! I decided to visit The Hills Dental Spa because of the Yelp reviews, and I was not disappointed. Having avoided seeing a dentist since I moved to Austin two years ago, mostly after hearing horror stories about people's Texas dental experiences, I knew the moment had arrived when brushing four times a day could not compensate for not going. So I sucked it up and called Hills Dental Spa. I mean, you could have guessed I was telling Kim, the receptionist, that she had won the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes, she was so excited that I was booking an appointment. After a thorough phone conversation, we booked an appointment about three weeks out. I was also eligible for the new patient package, which included an exam, cleaning, xrays, photos, and a one hour massage. I'm sorry; a massage with my dental cleaning? As the Epic Meal Time guys say, SMART. In the three weeks between booking and my actual appointment, I heard from Kim no fewer than three times. Once to see if I wanted to take an earlier appointment due to a cancellation, once to thank me for booking, and once to remind me that I was a week out. When the time finally came, she was as bubbly and effusive in person as she was over the phone. I sorted out all of my patient paperwork and billing info with Amy, who then walked me back to my dental hygienist Nicole, and recounted practically verbatim all of my concerns, expectations, and questions about the appointment. Points for active listening! Double points for getting to watch Trading Places while Nicole scrape-scrape-scraped her way around my nasty mouth. Triple points for leaving the cleaning and going straight to the massage room, where Annie beat the knots right out of my shoulders and left me on the table, a lavender-scented pile of clean-toothed goo. As the stars imply, this office is as good as it gets! I love going to the dentist here. Every detail is attended to here. The waiting room is peaceful and comfortable but you never spend much time there. Your dental assistant whisks you back into your room quickly where you are offered a warm neck wrap and a variety of media to entertain you while getting your teeth cleaned or examined. They even have glasses so you can continue watching your program when they tip you back in your chair. You can arrange for a hand massage as well. Talk about pampered! A massage therapist is on staff so if you'd like to follow your dental visit with a massage that can be arranged. And Dr. Nemec and the staff are always professional. While it is lovely and relaxing, my five stars go to the staff. I was so lucky to have Dr. Hobson and Bridget on my dental health team. Dr. Hobson is amazing. She has a sweet personality, is super sharp and detail-oriented. Not only does she handle the dental issues with ease, she is very talented in the aesthetics of dentistry as well. I owe the pretty smile in my wedding pictures to her! On one occasion I had some billing questions. Nancy spent an afternoon researching and checking in with me to make sure we figured it out before the end of the day. I know they are a busy office, but I really do feel like I am appreciated as a patient there. I have to admit I know a little bit about dentistry because my husband is a dentist. It's true that some dentists will try to "sell" their work. Not the case here. This is a high integrity office and I've been really impressed with how they run the business side of their practice. I also love how Amie and Dr. Nemec are involved with the community and giving back. I used to get migraines every day. I would make up in the morning with intense pain in my head, neck, and jaw. My migraines made me nauseous and extremely sensitive to light and sound. Eating was painful and when I would eat solid foods, my jaw would click and pop. It affected my work, life, and overall happiness. A lot of days it was hard to get out of bed. And the worst part was that it hurt to smile, so I smiled much less. I did a little online research and found out that my pain was probably from clenching and grinding my teeth at night. I have no dental insurance. I am a total wimp when it comes to anything in the head region - headache, eye, ear ache, sinus, and teeth. Just can't handle acute or prolonged discomfort above the neck. Dr. Nemec is as good as it gets. The entire practice is very professional, but with a kind, personal touch. You can tell that Dr. Nemec is a perfectionist--an absolute must for a good dentist. Since other reviewers have covered the spa-like aspects of this practice, I'll focus on the actual dentistry. I'm a bit of a dentist connoisseur. I don't think there's a tooth in my mouth that's filling-free. Until Dr. Nemec, I had never had a Novocain shot where I didn't feel a thing. Honestly, I didn't know he had begun. Also, he makes crowns and inlays DURING your visit, so you don't have to deal with a painful temp and a follow up visit. This is a HUGE convenience! His assistant is a sweetheart. She's so attentive that you never are stuck with too much saliva building up in the back of your throat. Maybe TMI, but you all know what I'm talking about! In fact, I heard of him because my mother-in-law had the same jaw issue and she lives in Colorado. The dentist that she used was the top and Colorado, when I told her that the first Dentist I saw said that I need to have my jaw wired shut, she spoke with her dentist and he told her to have me see Dr. Winters. I recently completed a year of invisalign and I am thrilled with the results and the way Dr. Nemec addressed my concerns at the conclusion of the treatment. I refused to wear braces in my youth and so I was a much older patient with irregularly worn teeth. I LOVE The Hills Dental Spa! I've been going there for years and they are just wonderful. The lobby is so inviting and smells amazing! They burn candles in every room, which I love to cover that dentist office smell that you find most places! The hand massage always puts me at ease and I have even dozed off a few times because I'm so relaxed! Dr. Nemec is very caring and personable and doesn't make you feel like just another patient, but a friend. You will not find a better place than this! read more

I absolutely love the Hills Dental Spa -- if you want a great massage, you'll love Audra. Dr. Nemec is really wonderful and most of the staff is terrific. I think their services are outstanding and I really respect Dr. Nemec as a health care provider. Further, my teeth always look phenomenal when I leave. The only reason I give it 4 stars is one of the hygienists became very hostile with me when I refused to get an annual x-ray. I generally try and avoid getting x-rays every year -- preferring to do them every other year - and she was downright angry when I said I'd prefer to wait until next year to get my x-ray. I was made to sign a form (with which I was fine) indicating that I was doing myself a disservice by refusing x-rays and it indicated all of the possible problems I might be facing that would go undetected if I refused them (mouth cancer etc.). I have no issue with that, but I feel like with my health care I am my biggest advocate and I shouldn't be treated with shame when I'm advocating for myself. So, I'm switching hygienists to the other one (who is fabulous). The incident is not enough to deter me from leaving The Hills (I won't let one bad apple spoil the rest) -- it's a wonderful place overall and I highly recommend it to anyone! read more
