My dentist is well versed in understanding sleep issues, and based on our discussions thought I…read moremight have a breathing problem. She did a head CT that revealed a deviated septum, and referred me to Dr. Wassmuth. I was quite impressed by the kindness, courtesy, and professionalism when I first visited the office of Capitol Otolaryngology. Dr. Wassmuth examined my nose and suggested balloon sinuplasty with turbinate reduction. After much trepidation, I scheduled the surgery, which is done in-office. The process of fixing my nose didn't take all that long. The anesthesiologist, Dr. Jack Carsner, was excellent, as were all those I met in the operating room. The procedure apparently went off without a hitch, and my husband drove me home where I rested the remainder of the day. Within a day or so I was feeling much better. I am still considered to be recovering after a week, but have already experienced noticeable improvements in my breathing. My husband says my snoring was virtually gone within a day after the procedure. I've had a variety of seemingly-minor health concerns, that when put together, have led to other problems. Snoring, dry mouth, dental issues, and poor sleep quality turned out to have (at least in part) had a common root cause in breathing problems. Hopefully all will improve or resolve before very long. If you have any kind of breathing problems, including snoring and symptoms like dry mouth when you awaken, you may benefit from a visit to Dr. Wassmuth. I highly recommend his medical practice.

He always took the time to answer any questions I had and thoroughly explain what he was going to be doing. The procedure had minimal pain, no nasal packing, and the recovery was quick. I can breathe better now and have also noticed that I sleep better than before!

I think if you have minor issues that can be fixed with balloon sinuplasty, then Dr. Slaughter is…read moregreat at it but if you need individualized care, then you might get disappointed like I was. A hard experience for me was that his office recommended the use of Steroid compounded nasal sprays for 5 months and I am still going through the consequences of doing long term steroids. At the nd I was still having sinus infections so they said I should see a different doctor, and they told me to stop using the Steroid sprays. I followed their instructions and I had severe withdrawal symptoms. I contacted them via patience portal, and explained my symptoms. They said that these sprays "should not" cause withdrawal symptoms and I should go to my GP. So again basically "just go see another doctor" when things got hard. That was disappointing. I am glad to say that I went to a different ENT and had a different procedure done for my sinuses and that took care of my on going sinus infection.

It was my great fortune to choose Dr. Daniel Slaughter as my sleep apnea doctor when my former…read moredoctor retired. Dr. Slaughter has a double board certification in both Otolaryngology and Sleep Medicine, and has over 30 years of experience. He trains other ENT doctors to use his balloon technique. If you have to have deviated septum or sinus surgery, or need help with sleep apnea, I highly recommend this physician for your treatment. He helped develop a minimally invasive technique called balloon sinuplasty. I have heard many horror stories regarding recovery from people who experienced deviated septum surgery in other ENT doctor's offices. I experienced nothing but positivity yesterday. When I arrived for surgery, from the front desk staff who greeted me and checked me in, to every single person I encountered, I felt at peace. The nurses are exceptional, especially Karen, who checked on me in the recovery room, and the nurse who stayed with me after surgery (I don't remember her name). When Karen had me prepped for surgery and walked me into the surgery room, I saw the doctor, the anesthesiologist, and at least 3 nurses, standing in a simi circle around the chair, all smiling at me, as if they were the welcoming committee! It gave me such a feeling of peace, and I knew they were going to take good care of me. Every single encounter was first class and professional. My recovery so far has been excellent, with very little bleeding, no stints in my nostrils, and only mild discomfort. I am thrilled to share my experience with everyone I can so no one has to tell another horror story about their deviated septum experience. Nancy L

NOTE: Dr. Slaughter's office has two Yelp pages (one has…read moremore favorable reviews) so make sure you check BOTH. TLDR: Dr. Slaughter caused external valve collapse and a pollybeak deformity, I have to pay $10k+ to fix his mistakes, his scheduling manager doesn't care about HIPAA, and my post-surgical concerns were ignored. Details: In 2007, I had nasal surgery after a car accident and needed grafting for structural support. Dr. Slaughter's partner (at the time) performed the surgery. My nose started to shift 17 years later and my breathing was compromised. Since Slaughter knew his former partner's techniques, I thought he'd be my best option for a functional revision. In 2023, I went to Dr. Slaughter and reviewed my prior surgery with him. I explained that I had difficulty breathing, frequent sinus headaches, my nose was "S shaped," and my nostrils were different sizes. I inquired about grafting for structural support and Slaughter informed me that he "doesn't believe in grafting." He also commented that he didn't think my tip looked natural and he "wasn't a fan of that style." I loved the tip of my nose so his commentary was unwelcome and unnecessary. Dr. Slaughter recommended a septoplasty, turbinate reduction, and balloon sinuplasty. He said the septoplasty wouldn't fix the external twisting and that was considered cosmetic surgery. I agreed to a septo/rhinoplasty and I made it clear to Slaughter that I only wanted the curvature and nostril fixed cosmetically. I didn't want him to touch my tip or widen my nose. He made no indication that this would be an issue. During scheduling, his scheduling manager came to the waiting room and had a very loud conversation w/me in front of other patients. She wouldn't listen to me when I told her I have no insurance deductible and told me, "We can't give you an estimate for your surgeries because your deductible will reset soon"... ignoring that I don't have a deductible. Then she said "Cosmetic rhinoplasties aren't covered by insurance"... which I wasn't even disputing. So, not only did the waiting room now know I'm having multiple surgeries, they also knew I was undergoing "cosmetic" surgery. I felt humiliated but I paid the $5k out of pocket and scheduled surgery. A few months after surgery, my breathing didn't improve and I developed a severe nasal valve collapse. My nose also appeared much wider when I smiled and my tip was bulbous/misshapen. I was told this was just due to swelling but, when the swelling subsided, the issues were still present. Slaughter recommended the VivAer procedure for the new valve collapse. My insurance would not cover VivAer but, since the first surgery was performed by his former partner and since his revision failed, he performed the VivAer procedure free of charge. While I appreciated the kind gesture, VivAer did nothing for me. From then on, I saw Dr. Slaughter for maybe 5 minutes and my concerns were ignored during follow-up appointments. I told his PA, Maria, that, in addition to the collapse, I was dissatisfied with the aesthetic results because: (1) My side profiles look like two different people, (2) a suture caused scar that looks like a permanent booger, (3) my nostrils are still uneven, and (4) my nose is wider. Despite me voicing my concerns, my chart says, "excellent initial result with a nicely healing incision and a symmetrical result." The only thing that was accurately noted is that I now had major valve collapse and still couldn't breathe. Eventually, I gave up trying to get a resolution from his office because I was made to feel like I was making a big deal out of nothing. After 2+ years of sinus infections, struggling to breathe, and dealing with the surgical failure, I decided to schedule a consultation with another ENT who is highly regarded in the Austin area. I was told that Slaughter removed too much cartilage and did not create a support structure for my nose... despite me specifically asking him about grafting and structural support. A second ENT confirmed this surgeon's findings. So, my breathing is worse than it was before surgery and my altered appearance (that I despise) was completely unnecessary. I would've NEVER spent thousands of dollars had I known that Slaughter was going to do the exact opposite of what I needed. And, now that I know insurance would have paid for a FUNCTIONAL revision rhinoplasty (for structural support), I'm annoyed that I spent thousands on this failure. The structure is so bad I'm able to completely flatten my nose against the side of my face (see photo). I don't know how any surgeon can see this and support their work. He might be good at straightening a septum and cleaning out nasal passages but that's about it. If you're looking for anything more than a septoplasty, go somewhere else. I wish I did.

(This review is for the STEINER Sanova location. Unfortunately they don't have their own Yelp page…read morefor that location) I had a good experience. I went in to talk about a big growth on the side of my head (hidden under my hair) that I wanted removed, as well as a general preventative skin check. Dr. Ted Lain was my doctor. He was friendly and had a very contagious positive personality about him. His nurse helper was very friendly as well. Everything happened so fast when they shaved off the growth, as well as a mole on my back they wanted to biopsy. Usually getting these procedures done freak me out but I didn't even have the time to freak out bc of how fast and efficiently it was done, lol. I also even briefly inquired about filler injection estimates and he was able to give me an estimate window right on the spot. They called me the following week with the results, and also sent me the results for my records when I asked. I liked this practice and my doc and I would go again :)

Had a full round of accutane at pflugerville no problem, got great results and any concerns I had resolved. I go to the North Austin location and holy hell, they must hire anyone because when I tell you nothing was done I mean literally NOTHING was done, did the paperwork, had my appointment, was prescribed medication, asked me what pharmacy I wanted to use, that was 3 months ago and I am yet to actually even start the treatment because they have sent the medication to the wrong pharmacy numerous times. I called probably over 15 times to address this and while there was one girl who answered and actually helped, still nothing was improved or done, they kinda just want you to drop everything you're doing and go the extra mile to make up for their mistakes, not to mention they never answer the phone and they are extremely rude. So they basically stole $70 from me for the appointment, I never took medication or had treatment but they were happy to take my copay. AND BECAUSE I LEFT A VOICEMAIL OF HOW UPSET I WAS ABOUT THIS THEY SAID THEY WOULDNT GIVE ME TREATMENT, but again I wasn't getting treatment the whole time regardless so not sure what kind of threat that was . I never leave reviews ever just look at my profile, this was so ridiculous I had to come up on here to warn everyone, seriously save yourself the headache, they have useless entitled medical professional type of people handling everything and will try to gaslight you
