I went in to talk about a big growth on the side of my head (hidden under my hair) that I wanted removed, as well as a general preventative skin check. Dr. Ted Lain was my doctor. He was friendly and had a very contagious positive personality about him. His nurse helper was very friendly as well. Everything happened so fast when they shaved off the growth, as well as a mole on my back they wanted to biopsy. Usually getting these procedures done freak me out but I didn't even have the time to freak out bc of how fast and efficiently it was done, lol. I also even briefly inquired about filler injection estimates and he was able to give me an estimate window right on the spot. They called me the following week with the results, and also sent me the results for my records when I asked. I liked this practice and my doc and I would go again :) read more

Don't bother seeing crotchety rude old Dr. Neil Foley for any vein issues you have... He was rude, uncaring, rushed me and said my chronic leg vein pains were not on his radar and told me to go to other PM&R doctors ??? He kept stating he was a vein specialist, duh...which is bullshit because he didn't bother to diagnose any possible causes for my leg veins pain and so post-visit, I Googled that I had possible CVI which that idiot could've told me. He has the worst bedside manner I've ever had in my long senior years experience. His nurse Lindsay isn't any more welcoming, I found her arrogant, perfunctory exuding the manners of an army nurse. I left that clinic with her a rancid motor oil taste in my heart after I met him, I'm going to go to Baylor Scott White instead. Horrid experienced and to think they just rent out one of the rooms every Friday at the beautiful Sonova dermatology clinic. My first visit to him was a waste of my time. read more

I've had two very disappointing experiences with Sanova Dermatology on N. MoPac, and I do not recommend this office. First, I went in for a full-body skin check. I felt that the provider barely examined me, which left me so uneasy that I scheduled an appointment with another dermatology practice. That dermatologist performed a much more thorough examination and ultimately removed two suspicious moles for biopsy. Given that experience, I was very concerned about the quality of my initial skin check. My second experience was with a different provider when I brought my 7-year-old daughter in for her first-ever dermatology appointment. I had three concerns I wanted addressed, and I was immediately made to feel like I was asking for too much by the nurse. As a parent, especially when taking a child to a specialist for the first time, I found that interaction incredibly frustrating and unwelcoming. They did prescribe medication for my daughter, but the pharmacy told me that the office needed to provide additional authorization. I called the office multiple times before finally receiving a call back and was told the process could take a few weeks. It has now been six weeks, and I have never heard back or received the prescription. What makes this even more frustrating is that my son received the exact same prescription from this office the previous year, using the same insurance and pharmacy, without any issues. Overall, I feel that both visits were a waste of my time and money. I expected much more thorough care, communication, and professionalism from a dermatology practice, especially when it comes to my children's health. read more

I was searching on Yelp for a new Dermatologist recently and came across Sanova Dermatology North Austin and was really happy that they were so welcoming and customer service oriented in being able to set an appointment the same week to be seen for an annual skin check. Amanda was super helpful! Really good because scheduling or rescheduling an appointment with my then provider, a large hospital clinic network, was a months long wait. My check-in at the North Austin location off of Mo-Pac near Parmer was effortless and very pleasant and my clinical visit with Lorin the Medical Assistant and Stephanie PA-C for the skin check was through and very informative. I was beyond pleased that PA Stephanie was able to examine and treat a spot on my ear that she had concerns with and also perform a procedure on a couple more that required them to be excised off. The visit was really positive and I accomplished so much in 90 minutes from the time I walked in along with directions on using appropriate sunscreen! Sanova Dermatology offers lots of services , so I expect that I'll be back more often than annually for routine maintenance and care at a really reasonable and fair cost. read more

In the past, most of my expensive appointments have ended with no real results and just an expensive bill, but Dr Currasco was able to accurately diagnose and treat an issue I have had for almost 15 years on the first try. Super grateful that I got real results from a knowledgeable doctor and happy I have a go-to dermatologist now. read more

I had an unnecessary stressful, dragged out experience due to gross neglect in responsibly communicating back to me, their patient. NOTE today is Friday the 11th of December and having just listened to my message from Sanova North of a couple of days ago, I am getting a definitive answer about my prescription from my last visit SEPTEMBER 1ST. There is no way it should EVER take 3-1/2 months to resolve a patient inquiry and concern over medicine! I called several times during this time frame and each time someone responding to the prescription/ nursing line assured me she would speak directly with my provider and get back to me with answers and they did Not! I went to both this location and the pflugerville location, pflugerville was substantially better although they are a little lacking with communication with the patients. Had a full round of accutane at pflugerville no problem, got great results and any concerns I had resolved. I go to the North Austin location and holy hell, they must hire anyone because when I tell you nothing was done I mean literally NOTHING was done, did the paperwork, had my appointment, was prescribed medication, asked me what pharmacy I wanted to use, that was 3 months ago and I am yet to actually even start the treatment because they have sent the medication to the wrong pharmacy numerous times. I called probably over 15 times to address this and while there was one girl who answered and actually helped, still nothing was improved or done, they kinda just want you to drop everything you're doing and go the extra mile to make up for their mistakes, not to mention they never answer the phone and they are extremely rude. So they basically stole $70 from me for the appointment, I never took medication or had treatment but they were happy to take my copay. AND BECAUSE I LEFT A VOICEMAIL OF HOW UPSET I WAS ABOUT THIS THEY SAID THEY WOULDNT GIVE ME TREATMENT, but again I wasn't getting treatment the whole time regardless so not sure what kind of threat that was . I booked an appointment with Natalie for botox for my 11s and a lip flip! This is my 5th time getting my lips done, but my 1st time with her. I loved how she was very transparent about what would look best on me and was not scared to tell me "no" if I was not the right candidate for a certain area. It was a very busy day, but she was very thorough in studying my facial expressions and making sure I was sure with what I wanted. She was very quick and the office was very clean! I typically have felt pain or nearly passed out when I get my lips done, but I really didn't feel anything this time. I already noticed a difference on my forehead on day 2 and can't wait to come back for my touch-up in a few months! read more

I've been a patient of Sanova Dermatology-North for a little over 2 years now. Gilbert S. is amazing! He's very thorough and knowledgeable, I can tell he really cares about helping others, and he's very personable. I first came into Sanova for a skin check, Gilbert saw some questionable moles and explained the removal process. It was extremely painless and everything healed nicely. Thankfully the results from the lab were negative. (I want to clarify something since a lot of people are giving 1 star reviews because of a lab billing issue which is separate from Sanova Dermatology. If you just submit the bill/receipt to your insurance you will get reimbursed for the lab fees! Giving a 1 star review to a business, because of how a separate business chooses to bill for lab work is shitty!) I've also bought my 10 year old daughter here for her hand eczema. Gilbert has been so great with connecting with my daughter, she's normally really shy, but she had no issues with talking to Gilbert and letting him know how her hands feel. He's been helpful with finding what works for her hands. Every once in a while I'll have breakouts and Sanova Dermatology is really great about fitting me in at the last minute for cortisone shots. It's hard to schedule those because you don't know when you are going to have a breakout. Gilbert first started giving me samples of Veltin gel by Aqua, he would just give me more samples when I ran out. Veltin gel is amazing for spot treatments, my pimples will be gone in less than 48 hours after using it. I requested a prescription for it do I wouldn't have to keep getting samples. The prescription can be pretty pricy from the pharmacy, around $300 to $400. Because Sanova really does care about their patients they shop around for pharmacies that would charge the least amount. The front office staff is extremely nice and helpful when it comes to making appointments. I'm deaf and they are always willing to communicate via email when I need to book appointments. Also they are great at providing access to deaf and hard of hearing patients. We are in a pandemic right now with covid and I depend on reading lips to communicate, hard to do with masks. At my appointment back in person after everything reopened they knew I was deaf and scheduled for a virtual interpreter. I don't know sign language though, so I couldn't use the interpreter, but I was very touched and impressed that they made an effort to provide access. I've also seen Amy for chemical peels and she is lovely and super sweet. She's great at skin care and explains everything very thoroughly. read more

Very disappointing experience with Sanova Dermatology. They are blatantly and unapologetically dishonest with patients about how they will be billed for services. I went with my boyfriend to his skin cancer screening, in which he was recommended that 3 moles be scraped for biopsy. The PA Gilbert Saenz specifically told him that this was covered by our insurance copay. We paid the copay and left (and luckily the biopsy was negative for skin cancer). Several weeks later, we received a $140 bill for the lab results. We called Sanova to inquire why we were billed and the representative said that the copay covered the visit and procedure, *not* the lab results. When we informed her that the PA said everything was covered, she was rude and defensive. Somewhere buried in Sanova's new patient paperwork is a clause that says patients agree to pay for lab work separate from procedures. Perhaps that's true, but it's incredibly sketchy to mislead patients into a procedure by saying the copay covers everything. I don't appreciate $140 surprise bills. I don't appreciate rude and unapologetic customer service. And above all, I especially don't appreciate a practice that deceives patients for its own profit. We won't be coming back. read more

He is so skilled that what could have been a an ugly scar on her face is almost unnoticeable. Incredibly unprofessional. I scheduled this appointment weeks in advance for my chronic skin condition flare up, and had to find transportation specifically for the day of my appointment as I am a university student without a car. They cancelled my appointment the day of and did not send me a text or call. I showed up to the appointment only for them to tell me they canceled and did not even apologize for not sending a text message or calling to tell me. Now I have to find transportation and miss work for my next appointment. I would not be going here if this was not the only place with appointments available. read more

I was very excited when I found Sanova. It was a nice change-of-pace to experience a more modern setting with more modern technology and well-rounded doctors who excelled at medically necessary dermatology as well as cosmetic dermatology. Dr Mamelak himself was always amazingly courteous, professional, and respectful. His end result is superior to most dermatologists I have seen. However, the staff seems to be one extreme or the other: really super nice and helpful or really unprofessional and lackadaisical. My first visit was in the 4 star range (the wait was excessive - beyond 30 minutes in the exam room). My second visit was in the 3 star range (the entire office seemed to be in a hurry to get everyone out as it was the end of the day before a holiday - different people were supposed to get me after-care instructions and never did. Additionally, I had to point out that I had already paid my deductible when I noticed she had charged me again). Unfortunately, it keeps getting worse. Unlike the first time (same exact procedure of possible cancer spot removal), the second time I received a bill from the lab. I called Sanova billing and left a message - of course no one called me back. I called back the next day asking what was different this time from last as to why I was getting a bill. They didn't have an answer and of course referred me elsewhere. I called my insurance and my insurance stated that Sanova coded the bill differently from the first time and that I needed to contact Sanova again and let them know. I did and was told by Sanova billing that I needed to call the lab. I asked no less than 4 times if they could please call my insurance on my behalf as there was obviously a disconnect somewhere. Each time the billing person told me "you need to call the lab first." So they basically refused to help me in any way. At this point it doesn't matter who made the mistake, based on the shitty attitude and horrible customer service of the billing department as well as their complete lack of initiative, I will never go back to Sanova. I don't need to pay someone to make things as difficult as possible and waste my time ... I can actually get that for FREE in plenty of places. read more

I was referred to Dr. Hanson back in 2013 by my PCP back when I was looking for a dermatologist for annual skin screenings. My mom had basal cell carcinoma, which isn't hereditary but I have fair skin and lots of freckles and moles so I figured better safe then sorry. During my initial appointment, Dr. Hanson had one mole on my thigh which she wanted to biopsy (my insurance only covers after deductible, so it was $100 for the first biopsy and $30 for each additional) and I had two other cosmetic moles I wanted removed. I figured at that additional $30 each, it was worth it. The biopsy came back severely abnormal so Dr. Hanson suggested an excision would be ideal since it could turn into skin cancer. My appointment was scheduled soon after with Dr. Mamelek. He does the surgical procedures, and Dr. Hanson does more of the cosmetic. I was numbed up so the procedure was painless, but it was weird to have the tugging sensation while Dr. Mamelek sewed my stitches. He cut a football shape and stitched it together with two layers of stitches (the ones that dissolve and the ones that would be removed 2 weeks later). Me being the weirdo that I am, I took daily pictures of my wound to show the changes. It really has healed nicely since I had it done early 2014. I've received samples of Newgel+E (advanced silicone gel for scars) which I plan to buy in the sheet version to minimize it even more. Since I had the excision, I have been getting skin screenings every 6th months. I've had a couple other biopsies in between, and recently had another excision on my back. We're hoping that we'll be able to move to annual skin screenings if I come back clear with my next skin screening in October. The office will work with you if you need to split the cost of your procedure into payments, which I really appreciate. For the most part I haven't had to wait too long to be seen and they have a Keurig machine in the waiting room to make coffee or other hot drinks while you wait. I have been very happy with both Dr. Hanson and Dr. Mamelek and would highly recommend them to anyone needing an annual skin screening. read more

From the super-expensive location to the spacious and well-appointed waiting room, my first thoughts were "Oh, crap - how much is this going to cost me?" I went in to have a second opinion on something, told the doctor what I was willing to consider for treatment (topicals) and what I wasn't (surgery). I also explained my history with the condition, including learning to avoid soaps and lotions with citrus oil in them. What does she do? She strongly advocates for laser surgery, send me home with brochures, and writes down some topicals I should consider buying -- many of which included citric. I did not feel listened to. Instead, I felt that my insurance card was looked at as a contribution to a rent check. I went elsewhere for my third opinion. read more

*Update* My initial issue with being charged when I shouldn't have was resolved! I was refunded the full amount. (Yippie!!) The lesson I learned was to always verify with my insurance company. Now for the good stuff!...my face is clearing up nicely!! The acne scares are slowly, but surely fading away. I documented the last few weeks and I've noticed a major difference. My suggestion would be to take weekly pictures to check your progress. My scars weren't as bad as they were in 2013, but I wanted those remaining scares gone. I decided to see Dr. Mamelak about a few issues I've been experiencing on my skin. My main concern was this darkening, round, growing mass on my leg, a red blood vessel on my neck, and then a few other blemishes here and there. I also wanted a 2nd opinion on suspected Vitiligo. The receptionist was polite and helpful, the wait was not long at all, the medical assistant/Intake person was very nice and then came in Dr. Mamelak. He was such a nice man, very informative and detailed. He took his time with me explaining everything in detail so I could understand and answering all questions I had no matter how silly they were. He was great and I have no issues making him my permanent Dermatologist! It was such a relief to know that all of my "conditions" were nothing to worry about and he even told me it was my decision if I wanted the Dark spot and neck vessel to be removed. i decided to have them removed and was very happy that with a couple of small pricks and 60 seconds later, both were easily removed and I was on my way! I highly recommend this office and Dr,. Mamelak is wonderful. read more

Today, although the staff was nice and I particularly liked the medical assistants that I interacted with, Dr. Ganz , who is apparently new to this practice, had a terrible bedside manner. She acted as if she couldn't be bothered to answer my questions. She was condescending and just snobby. She dismissed my concerns of having recurrent pre-cancerous spots. And didn't even do a thorough check on my chest until I asked her to. I've had Emily Johnson in the past and Sally Santos and they have been lovely, but are no longer at this practice. I will not be using this provider again. Being new to the practice, I would think she would need to build her patient base. read more

I'm really upset by the treatment I was given by Dr Hansen. I came to her for a year with eczema that she couldn't cure. One cream even burned the skin off my fingers. I finally came to her with open sores on my hands begging for help. Again another cream that didn't work. I am pregnant and my OB demanded I go elsewhere because bacteria can get into my open sores. I went to Spicewood Dermatology and within the hour of my appointment I had samples and my skin had improved immensely. For anyone suffering with eczema like I was, it was Halog ointment that finally worked for me. It only took 2 applications. Something else I want to point out is that I called the nurse line and said I am very upset and frustrated that my skin isn't healing and instead of hearing "Oh I am so sorry let's get you in right away, let me discuss with the Dr" I was asked "so what are you calling for?" No empathy or caring from the nurses at all. I wanted to say well now I'm calling to let you know you lost a few patients! My family won't be coming back! read more

My visit went really well despite my phone call experience. I decided to give this location a second chance and not assume the business itself was bad off of one call (the agent may have been having a rough day and we all have those. Not that it makes it okay, but it happens.) I did have to wait a little longer than most offices I've been to, past my scheduled time. (Approximately 20 minutes) which if it had been during a working day for me, I would've had to cancel and reschedule because I am usually very right on time. Aside from the wait, everyone was very pleasant and I was amazed at all of the various procedures offered here. Way more than I would've imagined. The office is very tidy and well decorated and I love that they have infused water as well as coffee options. I was parched when I arrived so finding the infused water specifically made me extremely happy. :) read more

Once you finally get seen after repeatedly being rescheduled, the doctors are great. However, their scheduling is absurd. You book an appointment 4 months in advance, and they call two days before the scheduled appointment to cancel due to "conflicts." Repeat this process multiple times, and then you finally see your provider. read more

I'm such a fan of this dermatology office! I've seen Dr. Hanson and her incomparable nurse, Nekol, for both medical and cosmetic treatment on a regular basis got 6 or 7 years. I wouldn't think of letting anyone else touch my skin. They are expert at their professions, and are delightful human beings to boot. Additionally, Dr. Mamelak has performed multiple MOHS surgeries with almost no visible scarring, and a CO2 laser resurfacing on my face, neck, and décolleté. At first I was excited because the office looked so nice, the website was modern and esthetically everything seemed good on first glance. When you walk in, you won't be greeted. The receptionist will stare at you and say "yes?" Nothing welcoming about it. Be warned if you want a free consultation for one of their services you will be required to give them YOUR ENTIRE information including SSN, health history, and insurance information EVEN IF YOU ARE PAYING CASH for the service. I've never felt less welcomed in a medical setting. There was no attempt to understand anything from a patients perspective. This review will be for my most recent visit and I'd like to highlight the manipulative sales practices deployed by the physicians assistant I saw, Gilbert S. I went here for a skin biopsy and was specifically told that my copay would cover the cost of the entire visit. Later, I was billed by the lab for $140. I called Sanova and the billing department was extremely rude and continued to talk over me with a script they've clearly been trained to say about issues like these, guess I'm not the only one who has been misled by these fraudsters. I was bullied into a biopsy with the false sense of piece of mind and security that i wouldn't have to pay anything outside the copay. I absolutely caution anyone thinking about coming here to A. Make sure you dont book with Gilbert S. And B. Make absolutely certain that the procedures you're getting have prices fully disclosed on paper, in writing. I mean just wow, I'm denied care because I'm not not filthy rich. If you need non-cosmetic, medically necessary dermatological care, this is not the place to go. Seek other, more respectable dermatologist who have common decency & respect for patients (not just for the those in the high tax brackets). Came in today for an appointment with Dr. Hansen about my scalp psoriasis that I've been dealing with for five years. I got there early and I was seen early so that was nice! Waiting area is nice with refreshments and updated magazines to read. Once taken back by the nurse (who was super sweet but I forgot her name) I was asked a few questions before Dr. Hansen came in just a few minutes later. I was very pleasantly surprised with the short wait times and how polite everyone was. Dr. Hansen listened to my concerns and helped develop a treatment plan for me and explained it thoroughly. All prices were discussed with me before anything was done which was really nice! Can't wait to see where I'm at when I return in 4 weeks. I have been a patient with Sanova for many years and have seen all of the doctors. They are all great with ONE exception. Gilbert S. was the only one available when I came in for something routine. It was my first & last experience with him as he was condescending and kept calling me honey or sweetie - it was so gross. Someone let this man know its 2021. He also insisted I get a birthmark removed - something every other doctor there has advised that the results would not be worth the effort. I also was not there for or had even mentioned my birthmark. When I explained this, he mansplained and insisted on doing a test area and it left a horrible large dark brown spot on my arm that lasted 6 months and didn't change my birthmark at all. I also didn't appreciate him acting like my simple port stain birthmark was revolting. Additionally, he kept referring to a Rx that I've been on for years, and that I should use it at night - but it's cosmetic and is supposed to be used during daytime, which I had to explain to him TWICE while I was there. The practice itself is great but avoid this guy for better service. read more
