They openly talk about underpaying teachers which explains the lack of quality in how they teach. The executive director is extremely arrogant and rude and criticized our student in the most demeaning way via email that would cost any public school employee their job. I would research the qualifications of the new head of school before considering West Lake. I don't see the value in paying $18,000 for a school that is run by someone that is nowhere near qualified.

Our daughter attended Kensington School for four years, from the infant program all the way through…read morePre-K, and we had a great experience. The school was always clean and well maintained, and most importantly, we always felt like she was well cared for and safe. She loved her teachers and made a lot of great friends during her time there. One of the things we appreciated most was how much her teachers genuinely cared about her. They really got to know her, were invested in her development, and were always willing to talk through and address any concerns we had along the way. We never felt like she was just another child in the classroom. We were also really happy with her development and how much she learned. She hit all of her developmental milestones, and by the time she finished Pre-K, she was more than ready for kindergarten, both academically and socially. Mrs. Nadia, the director, is great. She communicates well with parents, is responsive when you have questions, and genuinely seems to care about the kids and the school. After four years, you really get to know a school, and we're very happy we chose Kensington for our daughter. We would definitely recommend it to other families.

With that being said, I am sad to say that my experience has not been the very best. It was hard for us to set up/ and confirm appointments because I work and she was busy (she had a baby a couple months ago, so I think that triggered a lot of it). But I had to do 6 hours with her because she said that was the minimum and we broke these up into a couple of sessions. I also live in Houston so it was a trek getting out there to Stafford, so I usually give myself an hour before our sessions to arrive early and prepare. Among these times, I don't think there was one time where she was on time, nevertheless early. I would soon learn to bring something to do in the parking lot or do her homework while waiting. During our sessions her phone would constantly be on, and she would be texting and taking up phone calls which was a bit distracting for me (given, I believe most were from her parents regarding her baby). And there were times where I noticed she was setting up future tutorials which made me wonder why she was not as quick to respond to my requests. There were also issues for me where before my session ends, kids would be coming in to ask her questions, asking her about this and that, sharpening their pencils in the machine, etc. so our session would end early, or I was eager to get of there and let her deal with her incoming students. I have since then taken Kaplan and compared the two styles regarding GRE math; Shahin will teach you the quickest method to solve algebraically, where Kaplan teaches you that not all problems need to be fully solved, but to assess the problem and try to come up with an answer. I preferred the latter (Kaplan), but in all honestly I think that's just a personal preference.
