I originally went to the Cardiologist because my doctor found that I had high blood pressure in August of 2023. The Cardiologist Dr. Otero put me on blood pressure pills. I took the pills for a few months and stopped. In March 2024 I ended up in the hospital with extreme dizziness and got physically sick when I moved. I went through a plethora of tests and the emergency room doctor said I had possibly had a small heart attack and/or Stroke, the hospital said I had to see a heart surgeon immediately and set an appointment. When I spoke with Dr Otero he said to cancel the appointment with the surgeon and that he needed to do more tests to verify my condition before I see a surgeon. Then I was run through every singe one of the same tests that were performed when I was in the hospital costing me for out of pocket expense again. Then an angiogram was scheduled for the first week of June 2024. The results were not good, Bicuspid valve that needed to be replaced, a 70% blockage that required a double bypass and a aortic aneurysm which could burst at any moment, (same thing killed my grandfather). I was told that a surgeon would call me the next week to schedule an appointment. Well, the next week came and went and no call...then the second week went by and no call. So, I called Dr Otero's office and left a message with his assistant Andrenika Ellison that I had not heard from the surgeon. I never heard back from Cardio Texas, and this was three weeks after my diagnosis. I waited until the next week, called again, no answer, left a message and never heard back. I had other family members who also used Cardio Texas but other Doctors in the practice call to try to get a response, and STILL NO CALL BACK! Remember, I have an aneurysm that could rupture an any moment and I would die on the spot. This went on for THREE months, I called every week, without an answer or a returned call. Finally at the end of August a surgeon's office called. I scheduled an appointment and the first thing the surgeon said to me was " I'm very concerned that you were diagnosed with this condition and your cardiologist took three months to get you to a surgeon?" Then he said, my diagnosed blockage was not 70%, it was 85% blockage and I didn't need a double bypass, I needed a triple bypass and could I be ready tomorrow for surgery? Then the surgeon said, I could be almost recovered by that point if they would have sent you back in June. BEWARE OF THIS PRACTICE, THEY ARE JUST LOOKING TO GET THAT COMMISSION FROM BIG PHARMA. Then, when I went to Cardiac recovery CARE with a physical therapist to help with my physical recovery. I was supposed to go to for several weeks but I ran into an issue the first day with my heart rate shooting up to 130 bpm. The therapist made me stop and instantly called to speak with Dr Otero and didn't get a answer. I was told to go home because we could not do any more exercises until he spoke with the Dr. Well, needless to say after making several calls and leaving messages the therapist never heard back from Dr. Otero or his office staff and would not see me without their call back. I'm going to have to say this is pretty sad for the type of doctors that are in this office...you know...HEART DOCTORS...or are they Grim Reapers!

He has been treating my fiancé for many years. I am reasonably sure that if he knew how substandard his office staff was, he would be disappointed as well. His nurse, his MA and most of all his PA, Micael are HORRIBLE at following up. Mind you, my fiancé has been plagued with Chohn's disease for the majority of his life. He never gets updates on his labs, even though he has been cursed with back to back infections. His nurse never returns calls that are left in her voicemail. She literally told my fiancé that she "forgot" to call him back. I am a nurse. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that I would NEVER do this to a patient. If I do not have an answer, I make sure I always call my patients before I leave for the day to let them know I have not forgotten them & that I am working diligently to resolve their issue. He has been told by the nurse that she was on vacation, that is why she did not call him. Once again as a nurse, I always touch base with the nurse covering for me so we can sit down and go over anything that I have pending. Dr. Lubin has cared for several of my family members. he has an amazing bedside manner & he is very knowledgeable. His staff on on the other hand, continues to trend downward. As a result of this decline, I have changed my mothers provider. She now goes to Texas Digestive Disease Consultants. Hopefully this post will prompt Austin Gastroenterology to tighten up on their staff because it is so very discouraging to see a group with such a good reputation to decline so rapidly.

Every time I walked into that office I am greeted right away and there wasn't a long wait time. Everyone is always smiling and filled with joy. I travel from south austin and I don't plan on changing them unless I move far, far away. lol Now that Dr Alberda is part of the team there is no better doctors office then this one. I have never walked in to a place like this where you get joy, understanding and great knowledge/skills like this office. Even the phlebotomist is a sweetheart with great skills to draw your blood. Its a short visit with her but her pleasantry last beyond that. Every single person of the staff is excellent at their job and they feel like old friends. If you do the research, both on Yelp and Google, you'll understand why. Dr. Sperling appeared on my radar as the only working GE receiving favorable reviews, so I broke down and met with him. He addressed all of my concerns - including acid reflux - with compassion, good judgement, attention to detail, and understandable explanations. Everyone on his team made me feel cared for and supported. The attending nurse, the anesthesiologist, and even the scheduling and billing team did a flawless job. And... I don't have acid reflux anymore.... An imperative health asset if you happen to love Mexican and Indian food! Dr. Sperling, I hope you're feeling the love while I'm enjoying my tacos al pastor!
