Dr. Ikbal is shockingly misinformed about nutrition, pushing urban legends that were disproved…read moredecades ago. This is all the more astounding because nutrition was her undergraduate degree. She also doesn't appear to practice evidence-based medicine. After her asking me what I eat in a typical day, she asked, "Where do you get your protein?" (Ugh. The idea that protein is hard to come by is flatly wrong and severely outdated. As Dr. Nestle, chair of the NY University nutrition dept. said, *26* years ago "We never talk about protein anymore, because it's absolutely not an issue, even among children. If anything, we talk about the dangers of high-protein diets. Getting enough is simply a matter of getting enough calories." The DV/RDA is ~8% of calories from protein, while grains are ~13% protein, vegetables 23%, etc.) She then tried to tell me that I had to combine plants foods to get a complete protein. (That was an urban legend promoted by a popular 1971 book, whose author recanted ten years later. The USDA nutrient database shows that individual vegetables, grains, and beans have all essential amino acids, in higher amounts than what we need.) Finally, she said I should eat more fat. I asked if there were science to support the idea that an addition of fat to an otherwise healthy diet improves health outcomes. Her reply was like, "I've been a doctor for 20 years...." Meaning, no science. By the way, she asked why I chose her, and I said that one of her patients wrote in a review about how he was able to get off all his meds for Crohn's Disease. Dr. Ikbal replied that the patient took himself off the meds, it wasn't her doing. Anyway, after hearing so much misinformation in just a brief, limited interaction, I have to wonder what other misinformation Dr. Ikbal is operating on. If you want a physician who practices evidence-based medicine, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. UPDATE: After I left the above review, suddenly DOZENS of glowing 5-star reviews appeared within a few days, about 1/3 of which are from people not even in the Austin area, many not even in the same state, and many of whom have zero other reviews on Yelp. Yelp has understandably moved most of these to the "Reviews Not Recommended" section. Is Dr. Ikbal buying fake reviews? Draw your own conclusions.

Our whole family has been seeing Dr. Katriny Ikbal for what I guess is about four years now. Dr…read more Ikbal is one of the nicest and most informed doctors we've seen in years. She's made numerous referrals to specialists as needed and has always expressed her utmost concern for our health and well-being. Don't let a negative review dissuade you from using her. In an age where healthcare costs $1,000s a month with high deductibles her medical practice model is the future of healthcare. She's reasonably priced, we've rarely had to wait more than a day to see her and in a crunch she'll make herself available by phone. One of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She's well versed in both conventional medicine and alternative approaches. Yes, she'll nag me about getting my annual bloodwork which is included in her fee but she does it politely and because she cares. Fred M. and Family

I saw Bailey Johnson-Rae…read more When I walked in, the provider was messing around with the three other women at the front of the office. Fine to an extent, but not very professional either. They were discussing tattoos and playing around when I was sitting fairly close to them. I described my complaint to the provider, and got the response of what do you want me to do for you? Uhm.... Well, I told you what problems I was having, which meds I've taken already to try to help it, and which I had not. Finally, she decided that there was a few options for medications that we could try out. It was more so stated to me, and then decided entirely by her, rather than a collaborative experience or discussion about my care. I didn't feel like I was a part of the decision, and the whole experience in general was so disappointing. The med that was prescribed has MAJOR interactions with two meds that I take every day. I was not made aware of this fact by the provider, but rather told by the pharmacist who insisted on meeting with me when I went to pick it up, due to the major interactions. When I reached out to her/her medical assistant about it, and to ask to switch to one of the other options she told me about, I got the response that it's fine to take the original one prescribed, because both meds are PRN. When in fact, the two meds that I take that have a major interaction are not PRN and are taken every day. I know that they could see the instructions for those prescriptions in my file, because they had turned to their computer screen towards me to confirm what meds I was still taking and which ones I was not. They didn't even talk about or address the request switching to another medication in their response. By this point, I was so disturbed by the whole experience that I didn't want to keep fighting with them via messages, because I had decided that I would not be returning. It's unfortunate too, because the office was nice and clean, and the location was convenient with ample parking. I was looking to switch to her as a primary care. Hopefully this experience is just a reflection upon that one provider, and not the practice as a whole, but I almost feel like I would be reckless and to return to her and try again.

And Dr. Dale, I can't speak highly enough of him. Dr. Dale is more than informative about what is going on, with your symptoms. I was so desperate for help I decided I would try to ask to borrow money for that appointment and see if I could find different help going forward. If I couldn't borrow the money, I was going to cancel. I just needed help that badly. I was shocked when they charged my debit card several days before my appointment with zero warning. $600 is a lot of money. It took my entire paycheck. I've never been charged days before an appointment for any psych. I called the office in a panic for a refund because all my money was gone. I canceled my appointment. I was disappointed that the people in the office didn't really empathize or seem to care. They were very "whatever" about it. They finally said "sorry about that" at the end of the call but it was emotionless and felt like a disinterested shrug. It's now been 8 business days and I still don't have my money back. My account is overwithdrawn. That is very stressful on top of really needing mental health support right now. I just don't know who can afford $600 out of pocket. Next time, please warn someone they will be charged days before their appointment so they can plan ahead. And please show more empathy.
