Spero Rehab has played a huge part of the success of living with Parkinson's (PD) for me. Its environment is friendly, positive, supportive, genuinely caring and professional. The culture is inclusive and harmonious among the PTs and the patients. THIS is a place where one can do PT for whatever ails h/her while being entertained listening in on various conversations about many things by everybody! Some really hilarious. Try counting your reps/sets while laughing your head off! For out-patient PT rehab I was referred to and chose Spero Rehab at the So Austin location. Ms. Jessica helped me get registered and lined up to work with Cole Stutz, PT, DPT twice per week for his expertise in Neurological issues and Parkinson's Disease. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Aug2017 by a hospital ER team of internists, neurologists and others, and I was in a wheelchair and not walking. I was sent for 2-1/2 weeks of aggressive daily PT, OT, and VT at a Rehab Hospital and actually successfully achieved my PT/OT/VT goals of being able to walk again, take care of myself, dress, bathe, do laundry, and once home to shop for groceries, prepare my meals, to drive, etc !!! My PD Neurologist MD stressed to include exercise in my daily routine. I was provided a prescription for ongoing PT because it was medically necessary. I have been working with Cole since August 2019 for Parkinson's-specific PT‍. After his assessment of my state and condition, and goals, the upshot for PT for me, was to target strength and balance. Once the strength had begun to increase, I also noticed an increase of endurance. For every session that I have with Cole, he has me first warm up. I surprisingly discovered that pumping my body full of oxygen at a steady pace through the lungs and the vascular system, that the oxygenation of my body actually reverses fatigue that I many times arrive with! Within 2-3 minutes on the elliptical system, fatigue is gone ‍ ( bye )! Because the aerobic warm up literally reverses fatigue in minutes, I do not lightly miss any of my PT sessions no matter how awful I feel under fatigue when I come in. My legs might become noodle-y when my 15 min aerobic warmup is completed, but I am CHARGED UP ! The most important factor for PT for me is to specifically do VIGOROUS exercises, an exercise technique newly discovered to notably retard or minimize the PD physical symptoms. I gave Cole permission to have no pity, and keep my PT exercise plan vigorous! HaHa! And, oh has and is he delivering! A later finding surfaced that when one with Parkinsons exercises, still VIGOROUSLY, a bit more than planned or expected, like an extra 5 or 10 minutes, or executing a few more reps , THIS has demonstrated to have a noticeable effect on the COGNITIVE symptoms! So, I invited Cole to surprise me and throw me a curve of doing more reps, doing a new killer exercise or more time on any of the exercises he's designed for that day's PT. Working with Cole for PT in Spero Rehab's environment has been very fruitful, I have noticed ongoing physical improvement in muscular coordination, reflexes, strength and endurance which was previously lost due to the ravages of the PD. I have surprised myself how much my physical condition has greatly improved. PT with Cole 2 times per week are generating great results. For Vestibular therapy, Cole directed me to work with Valerie Benjamin, PT, DPT. She demonstrates a strong affinity for the amazing skill of VT. She has taken me through more advanced VT that strengthes the vestibular system and minimizes parkinson's falls, which are very different than any other type of fall. A Parkinson's fall is a freefall for no reason . Her Application of VT is intuitive. I have Spero Rehab to thank for the great progress through PT/ Dr. Cole and VT/ Dr. Valerie that is occurring in my case. read more

So I started seeing Matthew Elizondo, PT, OCS, SCS, COMT at the spero rehab. Ive been dealing with pain, surgery, shots, chiropractic, airrosti and acupuncture. Nothing has helped the exercises they had me doing was making things worse! So on advice from another PT person that had a grasp of what my issue was, I was told that these people truly could help me. I am so glad and thankful to have come to Spero after my car accident. Initially, I was not planning to but my friends and family urged that I go see a doctor and get referred to a physical therapist. My close friend who is a physical therapist recommended Spero to me. My PT was Cole and Bri. Cole is incredibly knowledgeable and can answer your questions or concerns in great detail. I appreciate his explanations for why we were doing specific exercises and what his plan was for me. He has even offered to let me record him doing the exercises so I can have that ready for me to reference at home. Bri is incredibly sweet and positive. She brings enthusiastic energy that makes it hard not to enjoy. There have been times where I didn't want to come in due to personal reasons but leave knowing I am glad that I went. Aside from their fantastic physical therapists, I am very appreciative of their hours as I work from 8AM-5PM and have been able to attend every appointment because they were open later than other PT offices. It was also really easy to schedule all my appointments ahead of time and the text reminders were also very helpful. The facility has a place for me to change and modern equipment with plenty of parking. It was bittersweet to be discharged from Spero since I enjoyed my time going to the appointments and chatting with everyone there while going through my PT plan. I'm a very active, 27 year old, female. After getting hit by a car on my motorcycle, I was faced with a broken medial malleolus. I was so upset and felt like I would never get back to my to my million hobbies. I am also a therapist myself, so I was curious who I could find that would actually teach me something I did not already know. Then, I found Matt, and throughout 3-4 months of therapy, he got me back in great shape! I'm now riding again and doing most of my normal workouts. I was diagnosed with Jumpers knee/patella tendinitis by an orthopedic surgeon. The surgeon recommended me rest a couple of weeks from any physical activity specifically volleyball. After resting, I went back to playing sports and quickly had my pain come back. I knew I had to do something different. My friend recommended me Spero Rehab since he has been with the physical therapist for so long. Matt, the physical therapist at Spero Rehab, is extremely knowledgeable and has helped me with my knee. I have had 4 major orthopedic surgeries now (3 knee and 1 arm) and been treated by several different physical therapists. If I could I would give it six stars. I had a stroke about seven years ago that affected my right side totally. My right hand, arm, leg and foot were basically useless. Of course, I was also right handed. Various sessions with some very good therapists got me walking and some use of my right arm and hand. Debbie and Lauren are so completely competent and professional that their human side sneaks up on you. They make therapy fun! That and the fact that I am now doing things with my right hand that I could only dream about, all the while not thinking about balance issues. And that is huge! read more
