The office is set in a relaxing Hill Country setting with free parking shaded by live oak trees. The serene surroundings and organized, clean office, conveniently situated close to downtown yet much less stressful, are exactly what you hope to find in a medical office setting. Also impressive: The online check-in process was made available in advance; the welcoming, friendly front desk staff person helped me find the office after Apple Maps misdirected my navigation; and the attentive medical assistant ensured I felt comfortable and informed before seeing the doctor. Dr. Craig Thomajan was excellent--he took the time to explain everything clearly, answered my questions thoroughly, and his calm expertise put me at ease. I left feeling well cared for and with a clear understanding of my treatment plan. I WAS an avid runner and was having a slight issue of a bone spur. After a couple of steroid shots, Dr Shock recommended I get a simple surgery since I met my deductible and could do this easy surgery and be on the mend quickly. WHAT A HORRIBLE MISTAKE IT WAS LISTENING TO HIM!!! He should be not be practing medicine and sued for malpractice for my surgery. I underwent the surgery on his advice and was healing fine, inside the foot, perfect healing, no swelling, no pain, and I went in for the follow up. I had a tiny red dot on the outside suture where the stitch was sticking out. Instead of snipping the stitch off, he said. Oh I'm going to open this up and clean it out. I thought it was strange to do this but he's the expert (so I thought) and went home. A few days later my foot began to swell, got extremely red, and started to form an infection with oozing and puss. I kept calling the office and sending in pictures and time passed. Finally he said come in after 2 weeks. My foot got an infection from him opening it up and "cleaning it out" from my own bacteria that lives on the outside of the skin. He then tells me i have to have surgery again to clean it up. I come out of the second surgery and due to his negligence and the delays on his part, my ligaments on the inside were eaten by the bacteria so my pinkie toe has no support. I now live with a pinky toe that is elevated and cannot fit into many does, I have no feeling in the outside of my foot and can't wear many shoes because my toe sticks up and is very painful and embarrassing. DONT TRUST HIM FOR SURGERY!! Go to an orthopedic surgeon, NOT A podiatrist !! I live with this everyday, It effects my everyday life, makes it hard to play pickleball, run, and even wear heals. Add me to the tally of RUINED FEET!…read more Years ago, I saw Robson for a plantar's wart: excellent bedside manner, great education, effective treatment. I had observed folks in the waiting room who had successful bunionectomies: Knowing I'd need it some day, I made sure to remember who I'd call... 2023: it's time for that bunionectomy! My deformity was such that it would require an osteotomy (for alignment correction) and fusion (metatarsal-tarsal) with hardware. My 2nd toe was already so long that it would need shortening to ensure proper foot mechanics (the osteotomy & fusion would make big toe too short/weight bearing would shift to the 2nd toe, which isn't good). "Everything went well," he informed my husband immediately post-op. But the numbness from the surgery never resolved... At each follow-up appt, I mentioned my concern of lack of sensation: He said I must've had neuropathy BEFORE surgery: NO I DID NOT! He got so upset about my complaints (or was that he just didn't believe me?!?) that at next follow-up appt... He took out a straight pin and began poking the areas: I felt NOTHING. He became more and more aggressive, now stabbing my foot repeatedly, until a look of embarrassment came over his face, as he subtly grabbed a tissue to wipe the blood from my foot and the blood drips on the floor that he caused! No, the needle wasn't sterile - it was a straight pin! But, he insisted that he couldn't have cut ALL the nerves because of the pain caused when he grabbed my big toe, pulled (yanked is more accurate) and held it as far away from the other toes as possible. He said I needed to pull it like this regularly. Previously, he had given me instructions for mobilizations to improve extension/bending toe up (only) and NOT for this...yet he insisted that I wasn't working on my foot like I should be (I'm a PT eager to power thru this rehab, so yes I was). The fusion nail through the metatarsal to the tarsal/1st cuneiform protruded to the 2nd cuneiform and began chiseling into it! He claimed that I only mentioned pain in this region AFTER I saw the X-ray (this was in the medical records). Um, this day, he didn't put the X-rays on screen: As he pulled the pictures up, he immediately clicked away, saying, "now's a good time to look at the original x-ray and start talking about hardware removal." While feebly clicking to search, he said, "That's right, our system went through an update, so I can't get to them right now." I asked to at least grab a pic "for posterity's sake." Barely had a chance to snap a pic of this day's x-ray, and no time to look at it until I got home. 2nd toe: The incision was made on the top/dorsum of the foot, right at the base of the 2nd toe. As incisions heal, scar tissue is laid and it contracts... I developed a hammer toe! Dr. Robson said, "I wish we discussed this hammer toe before surgery to take care of it then," to which my reply was "I didn't have a hammer toe before surgery." I still don't have sensation in the ball of my foot, big toe, nor 2nd toe. Can't find/feel the ball of foot when trying to push off with gait. My 3rd toe has become inappropriately helpful with pushing off (& is constantly red). New surgeon didn't want to disparage Dr. Robson: He was super professional. But the truth slipped out over visits: 1. The angle of fusion is such that the big toe/hallux/MTP joint doesn't bend straight (for a normal gait push-off); rather, it bends similarly to how it did before (directionally, as with bunions deformities). No amount of yanking the big toe outward will change the joint alignment (Robson had said I just needed to reshape the meniscal disc). 2. The 1st ray (metatarsal) was fused with the metatarsal head (AKA ball of the foot) ELEVATED, which explains why I can't "find it" when I try to push it down (seated/standing, lifting heel up). It mechanically CANNOT be the push-off bone as it should be. 3. The plate wasn't affixed flush to the bones - hardware removal would be necessary to wear shoes comfortably. 4. A sizable chunk was chiseled out of 2nd cuneiform from the protruding tip of the fusion nail. 5. Hammer toe was an obvious result of the procedure shortening the 2nd toe. Other issues & details being left out because of how long this already is. Bottom line: DO NOT RECOMMEND DR. ROBSON FOR BUNIONECTOMY REQUIRING FUSION. In fact, I've reported him to my insurance company and to the Board.

I recently had a bunionectomy and a fractured toe repaired by Dr. Hubbard. I have put off having…read moreanything done on my bunions because of the absolute horror stories I have heard, and then that they can come back! A good friend of mine had recently seen him for some work and she spoke quite highly of him. I had been having some issues with my right foot and kept feeling like there was something under my toes and it had started to hurt so I figured I'd give him a try. I'm not the easiest patient, I have no tolerance for doctors who will not listen and minimize whatever they are told. I liked Dr Hubbard from the start. He came into the exam room, shook my hand and introduced himself. He ordered an X-ray on my foot and didn't see anything except the rather large bunion. He asked me if I had considered getting it taken care of and I told him it would be a pretty hard sell, in view of what I had heard and the fact that new pain meds were investigated with bunion surgery. He said that there have been major improvements and it wasn't like that anymore. He also sent me for an MRI to try to get a better idea of what was going on with my toes. Fast forward, the MRI showed that there was a hairline break in my second toe that had been there for awhile, and had caused all kinds of inflammation. He recommended surgery to close the hairline fracture with a screw and a bunionectomy to keep things aligned. It was a major leap of faith, but I went through with it. He explained to me exactly what he was going to do, what the recovery would be like, that it would not be as bad as what I had heard before. He told me he orders a nerve block on the leg to minimize pain-what a great idea! The pre-op workout was coordinated and well planned. I chose Hyde Park Surgery Center and had no problem. Each practice got my insurance straight and did everything I expected. I told Dr Hubbard, and the pre-op nurse at Hyde Park that I have had some truly awful experiences with having IVs and everyone assured me they would be attentive to my fears. I wish I could have sent them to Austin Gastro to learn how to start an IV. I am almost 2 weeks post op. I'm off crutches, in a walking boot, and today I had all the bandages removed and replaced with a compression dressing. I stopped the hardcore pain meds after 2 days and only use Ibuprofen when I feel like I need it. My bunion is gone, my toe is set, I have 3 little screws holding it together. Would I recommend Dr. Hubbard? Without hesitation! He and his staff are the best! I'll probably have my left bunion taken care of, too.
